You do mean below MSRP, I assume.
Do you mind sharing the info? $900 under sticker, any other fee? where is this dealer/contact? Thank you very much.
I happen to live in Clarksville. Good to hear your positive experience w/ Coleman Honda. Why do you favor American v Canadian-built Odysseys? (Probably obvious, but thought I'd ask because I'm getting ready to purchase one.)
General question: Is it possible to purchase Odysseys with any buying services OR via online dealers FOR A DISCOUNT?
In addition, if you change the speedo from Km to MPH, you can get into problems when you sell it--under US Federal law, you have to certify the mileage, and if the speedo has been changed, you must state "Mileage Unknown". Some border states (such as the state of Washington) may be trying to solve this problem by having the State Police certify the kilometer-age at the time of replacement of the speedometer. That'll help, but watch out for this re-sale problem you may face.
On the positive side, the outside mirrors are heated......
I just paid MSRP for an EX in Boston area. It was fairly easy, so MAYBE I could have gotten "something" off list if I had tried. I put a deposit on a vehicle that had just shipped to the dealer - scheduled to arrive in 10 days. I didn't want, or get any pressure to buy, any "dealer accessories" so I paid just the MSRP & Honda's standard "Destination Charge".
Vehicle arrived at dealership by the promised date and I picked it up the next day. The dealer received several other Ody's in the same shipment, but they ALL had "SOLD" tags on them when I saw them on the lot.
So I think the supply is just barely meeting demand in the Boston area. Other dealers still told me I would have to wait 4-8 weeks, so I jumped at the chance to get one in less than two weeks!
Does any one know of a dealer in NY, NJ, CT or PA where I could buy an EX reight away at MSRP or lower. I have also seen some posts mention about a cassette dect. Doesn't it come with it? Please give name and location and if possible phone number of the dealership. What is the best price available in for hondacare warranty?
Good luck!
As for Cambridge, I'm suprised. My brother tried to get on their wating list and was only offered the tarted up units they had in stock. No offer of taking an MSRP order on a non-gussied up unit.
Best of Luck with yours.
I have spoken to all the dealers in NJ. The prices quoted ranged from 1000 to 2000 over MSRP. Actually the dealers in NYC quoted 1000 but if you could wait 6 weeks they are offering MSRP.
I am still waiting to hear from others. Is there any one who knows a dealer in the range of 100 or 120 miles from GWBridge offering EX at MSRP???
Thanks
I have talked to Anderson Honda before. They kept calling me when there is a Odyssey for me to buy. Again they keep quoting me $1500 over MSRP. As I don't need a car right this moment, I thought I would wait. But if you can it at MSRP, I would have take the car also. How do you get them to sell you at MSRP? Thanks!
First, I got a quote from andersondirect.com which is 500 over the MSRP, then sales person at anderson told me that they can work on the MSRP. I told them if they can sell at MSRP then give me a call. They gave me a call said they never done this before (sell at MSRP), but they were willing to sell me at MSRP. After I got my car, the same sales person told me that 30% of their odyssey were sold at MSRP. I think it might be able to get it lower, but I don't have time to work on it. Good Luck!
Started looking for a van about 6 months ago, and quickly narrowed the field down to Odyssey EX, T&C LXi, or Gr. Caravan ES. Drove and liked all 3. The Dodge guy kept bugging me, so I eliminated the Dodge. I like to do my homework and don't like being badgered. I knew I could get a good price on the T&C wherever I went, so I started looking into what I could get an Ody knocked down to. The first dealer wouldn't budge from sticker for a Navi that a previous buyer backed out from. Can't blame him too much since the Navi's don't seem to be plentiful, but I didn't want the Navi system ($2000 buys a lot of maps and I want a cassette player). Found out about $500 under MSRP at some places from this board. I was in Columbus and stopped at Hugh White and asked about that deal. Without blinking, he said he could do $500 under MSRP and the Hondacare 7/100/0 for $900, but there would be a 2-3 month wait. I'm not sure I want the warranty, but I took his quote and used it as a starting point here in Cincinnati with 4 other dealers through a local internet service to see if I could do any better. One dealer wouldn't give a price through email and wanted me to call. 2 others would match the $500 under MSRP. The fourth replied with email and said they had a SS EX on the lot and I could have it for $750 under MSRP as part of an internet marketing promotion, plus they would throw in the cargo liner. NOW THEY'RE TALKING. I called and explained that my current lease runs until June and I actually want to wait until April or May to get one. They asked what color I wanted (GG), checked the incoming orders, and said I could have one for the same deal that would arrive in 6-8 weeks. No mandatory dealer options or packages unless I want them. They want $1250 for the Hondacare 7/100/0 warranty, which I'll probably decline, and $250 for the cassette, which I'll probably take. They took a $250 refundable deposit over the phone. So now all I have to do is wait.
I am not giving out the dealer name at their request to protect my deal, but it is in the Cincinnati area. Just wanted to let people know the buying climate here. You can find a deal under MSRP if you look around.
I'll let you know what happens when it comes in.
I think the best way is just walk in and buy the van in their lot.Hope this help.
I waited for my ody for 6 weeks and when we went to pick it up, we were offered 14%
We had some errors on our credit report, it said I had 2 Mazdas with identical vin and monthlt payments and a buick lease that was 2 months overdue. Problem was I only have one mazda and turned in the leased biuck two months before.
the finance guy dared to ask us why we needed an ody. he thought we already had 3 cars. He told us if we could prove our actual position, maybe he could do something.
We spent the next day on the phone to gmac and mazda to prove we were good people, there must have been 30 pages of faxes from all our creditors to show we were creditworthy. Guess what the jerk financed gave us? 13.9%. Thanks for nothing honda.
I laugh when I go passed a hondacar, van dealership. I am laughing at you idiots who brag about getting list and under 10%. But the best part:
The deal would cost us a total of $42K. The finance guy thought we would go for it like rover chases a stick.
We told him to take a hike. The dealer looked like he lost his best friend. The sap probably spent the commission check, after all, we were trying to do a deal in good faith
So later that night, the salesdude called us back begging us for our business. I wanted 9%, and he was going to stick me with 14%. He said the difference in monthly payments was about $75 for 5 years. I told hin that if HE made up this $75 dollar difference, then we could do the deal. The dude hung up on me.
It turns out that we were t-boned by a couple file clerks at mazda and gmac. Mazda changed account numbers and didn't delete the old one. gmac did't know where the car was. the dealer lost it, found it later and still took 4 months to process and sell. leasing sux, btw!
Get a credit report before you buy anything, do it and save yourself a world of hurt.
we took our downpayment and paid off the only mazda and student loans, invested and still laughing at hondas where ever we go.
Whats wrong with you, full list and high interest. That must be your sellout price, but does the dealer respect you, no.
I am proud of my wife for not kicking the finance guy in the crotch.
look at edmunds own site for buying advice, none of these boneheads posted here did. learn from them, and me, blarg1.
I waited 11 months, but well worth it (IMHO) for my GG 2001 EX w/ NAV. I ordered it through United Buyer's Service (UBS) in Chevy Chase, Maryland (301-657-1920) and purchased the vehicle through Brown's Arlington Honda in Arlington, Virginia. Here's what I paid:
$26,151 - 2001 EX w/ NAV (MSRP=28,840)
199 - cross bars for roof rack
129 - mud flaps
65 - wheel locks
$26,544 - vehicle price w/ options
1,327 - 5% state tax
163 - license tags
$28,034 - Total price
When I ordered the vehicle I was told it would be about a 1-year wait. With the savings we added leather from Classic Soft Trim in Baltimore (410-247-6700) for $1,299 and purchased Honda Care extended warranty (7yr, 100K, $0 deduct) from Brandon Winfree at Rusty Wallis Honda (214-348-7500 x1202) for $935. Also, I purchased an IBM ThinkPad laptop with DVD as an alternative to a VCR/entertainment system for the kids.
The vehicle is great!! My wife loves it so much, I rarely get to drive it! :-) If you can wait, I highly recommend using UBS. Anyone who belongs to a credit union can use them. I'm very pleased with the deal I got. Hope this is helpful and mucho gracias to all who have provided info in this forum!!
Raybear, you are correct I meant MSRP in my post 1050. Thanks
Congrats on your Odyssey. I too put in for a Honda Odyssey through UBS and Brown's Arlington Honda. I got on the list almost 11 months ago (04.24.00). I have heard nothing from the UBS salesreps, and I called a few months back to check on my status, and needless to say they were not too helpful. Who was your sales rep....? If it was a good experience, I may want to deal with that person. I was told 8 months to a year when I signed up, and like you I was in no hurry to get the van (but I liked the idea of saving all that money). I like the IBM Laptop/DVD player idea. Let me know more about how they finally contacted you, and your overall impression of your sales rep. I would really appreciate it. Thanks,
Biggame
See my posts #'s 998 and 1048
Check out Bay Ridge Honda in Brooklyn. I picked up my 2001 EX last month after a 3 week wait for MSRP. No hassles or surprise. Ask for Frank Baldassare (cr 718 836-4600) and tell him Rob from Jersey sent you.
Good Luck
I see some other Ody owners have experienced poor mpg's around town. Has your mileage gotten better, or stayed the same with more miles driven on the vehicle?
I had a positive experience dealing with Carla at UBS. She interfaced with the sales reps and the branch mgr at the dealership. The senior sales rep at Brown's Arlington Honda (Sean) did not provide any useful info to me and was very obnoxious to work with. I called Carla for an update after 10 months and she told me that we were 2nd on the EX w/ NAV list and could expect a vehicle in the next couple months.
About a month later, Sean called me at 3:00pm on a snowy Friday to tell me that my Odyssey was in and I would have to pick it up before 6:00pm or he would "sell it to another customer"! This was the first time he called me since I placed the initial order with UBS and I was livid! I told him that I could not be there by 6:00pm and his request was outrageous!! I told him to fax me a detailed invoice with the vehicle ID, mileage, and total price including all options/tax/fees, and if the vehicle was acceptable to me I would pick it up in a week. He said this was "impossible". I requested to speak to his manager and he stated he was unavailable. I told him to have his manager call me when he was available and hung up.
His mgr, Zubair called me back and was extremely apologetic. He had the invoice faxed to me with the requested details. We agreed for me to pick up the vehicle 2 days later (Sunday). Luckily Sean was not there and we worked with another sales rep, Ralph. I had originally requested the vehicle with no options, but since the options included were minor I did not object. Ralph was knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. We did have to suffer through their obligatory undercoating sales pitch video and acid rain protection propaganda. Needless to say, we declined the "extra" protection.
Signed a 7-day promissory note with the finance guy and we were ready to roll. My wife and I were amazed that we had our new Odyssey and hadn't yet paid a penny! Joked about it with Imran the finance guy and he commented they would "find us" if we defaulted on the note (felt like I was in a scene from The Godfather!).
Anyway, the vehicle has been superb and we feel the 11-month wait was worth it for the cost savings. Just donated our old van (1987 Dodge Caravan) to goodwill. We buy a new van once every 14 years whether we need it or not! ;-) Hang in there Brendan and others on the UBS wait list! Good luck!!
I have read some things recently that indicate the following:
Alabama plant to produce about 120K Odys per year (same as Canada plant).
Canada to build about 30K Odys per year - I speculate for Canadian and export market.
Rest of Canadian capacity to build Honda version of Acura MDX which is currently built there.
Didn't think I'd see it, I apologize for having mislead anyone.
Although we got not such a good deal on finance. 7.99 for 60 months, but I think we got a good deal overall. I guess it was end of the month thats why.
But the yuckiest thing was the ORDEAL of negotiating with them. Typical 3rd class sales people deal, lying , cheating on the price. Once we had a agreement that we will get free security + MSRP, they printed out the customer order and here's how it was:
MSRP: $257**
Security: $399 !!!!
Security Glass Edging: $399 B.S
+ T.T.L
When I pointed all this B.S. to the sales guy he went running back to the manager and came back with the different(agreeed) price claiming that it was amistake, it was for an Accord. Yeah right. Which LX Accord sells for $25K+!!
Any way, fought with them on finance, 9.99 to 7.99, wanted 7.5, walked out the delraship rejected their offer. Sat in car, then came runnign the Manager offering $500 decrease in price if we agree on 7.99 APR. Finally got it b/c everbody knows what the demand is. We bought silver LX with 8 miles on the odo. I will name the dealer once I have the security installed b/c I don't want to mess up the deal.
I guess it depends on the area where you are. My other sister bought 01 Accord EX last Oct from Huggins Honda , very professional and nice experience. But this one take the cake for being the ugliest experince. Its not the price but the way we were trated.
Thanks
Everything worked out good. Dennis at Jay Honda was very
professional and delivery was smooth. I check the van carefully
and didn't notice any scratches or dents.
Shipping only took 5 days from Ohio to Bay area.
I was surprised when the shipper called me and
asked me to pick up the van so soon. I thought it's going to be 2 weeks.
I started the Odyssey search about 3.5 month ago around Bay area.
All I got was outrageous price and rude attitude as if they are doing
me a favor by selling me the Odyssey at $2000 over MSRP.
After I saw couple of posts about the Jay Honda, I decided to
email Dennis at Jay Honda for a quote. At first the quote was not
as good as I expected after the shipping fee from Ohio to No. Cal.
But after couple of email negotiations, we agree on the price.
Including shipping, doc and temp tag fee, it was $250 over MSRP.
Still at least $750 better than the local dealer and we get the color we
want. So I decided to go ahead with the deal even though I was still
little uncomfortable with shipping from out of state. One thing that
really made me feel better was Dennis's professionalism. He was
very quick to reply all my questions. Jay Honda did't have GG EX no Nav
on the lot so I have to wait for it to build. I start talking to Dennis
on 02/16. Van was build on 02/23. I took delivery on 03/13 so that
is about 1 month process.
Definitely worth getting at least a quote from Dennis (JayHondaDJ@aol.com,
888-321-2371 ext 134).

It actually got kinda funny, this message board kinda lightened up!!!! There was discussion of if Judy was my wife, my girl friend , or me in drag!!
Go back and look for yourself.
Everything else has been legite. Sorry if I offended anyone!!!
dealers, more than 15, and didn't get any price near what Dennis offered. Show me where
I can find a MSRP around bayarea. I'm wondering if raybear is a local dealer I pissed off by
telling him to take his deal and shove it where sun don't shine. If you really have MSRP
deal for bayarea buyer then please post it so bayarea buyer can benefit from it.
All the local dealer I dealt with were rude and condescending. They really think they are
doing me a favor by selling it to me for $2000 over MSRP. I'm spending my hard earn
money to buy their product but they think they are doing me a big favor. Can you
understand that? I can't. That really pissed me off. That is why I'm trying to steer as many
buyer out of bayarea dealer as possible and hurt them where it matters, profit. I guess I'm engineer by trade and usually use specific term like "Dennis at Jay Honda" so there is no confusion. Just an habit for writing spec and white paper. Anyway, I did get my Odyssey
and very happy with my buying experience with Dennis at Jay Honda. Oops... I did it again.
I just got a very good deal on my HondaCare warranty. 7/100/0 for $875. Not from Jay Honda.
Tracy Dalton at Alton Blakley Honda in Somerset, KY. Now they
are going to accuse me of being Tracy.
Why don't you guys contributing something good to the forum instead of whine and complain. You 80 percenter.

I live in the San Francisco bay area, and started my search for an Odyssey in late December. Got the usual 2K over MSPR from the local dealers. I also "got in line" at a few dealers around California who were selling at MSPR but had waiting lists, but that did not seem to be going anywhere either. So based on the messages posted on this forum (particular thanks to "AlexLi" and "farnw" whom I contacted individually) I decided to call Dennis Jenkins at Jay Honda.
Dennis was very professional in my email/phone discussions and replied to my emails very promptly. Unfortunately he did not have (and was not expecting to get anytime soon) the configuration I wanted (SS EX with Navi). But he found a couple of such vans at nearby dealers, and suggested that he could do a dealer trade and get me the car. Because a dealer trade was involved, he requested a refundable deposit of $500 towards the purchase of the vehicle. I was very uncomfortable getting into this "long distance" car purchase deal, but after several phone calls and emails, he put me at ease with the idea. I finally decided to go ahead with the purchase, and paid the deposit by a credit card. By the time I decided to go ahead with the purchase, the 2 vans that he had located were sold (guess what - to customers in California!). He then located another van that was expected to arrive within a couple of weeks at another dealer, and asked me if this wait would be ok. I agreed and asked him to confirm the trade with the other dealer.
As luck would have it, the same evening I got a call from one of the dealers whose waiting list I was on. He had a SS EX Navi coming in a few days and was offering it at MSRP. Since buying it locally would have many advantages, I immediately called Dennis and asked him if I could cancel my transaction. I explained the circumstances to him, and he promptly agreed to refund my deposit and cancel the transaction.
I was impressed with the level of service and professionalism shown by Dennis. Although he lost the sale, he did what was in the best interest of the customer. Thank you Dennis - it was a pleasure working with you.
For those considering a long distance purchase of an Odyssey, I would highly recommend Jay Honda. Some people have questioned the validity of posts regarding Dennis/Jay Honda. Feel free to email me (look at my profile for the address) if you have questions.
I would like to thank all the members of this forum, whose tips and guidance were very helpful in making my purchase.
