Ill listen to anyones opinion. If it were a used vehicle and the price diffence and rarity of the vehicle justified the cost of travel, etc....
but on a new one that any dealer can get....
I serve my customers great, thank you. If a customer came in here and gave me a line like "____ Honda up 600 miles away said that they could do 100 dollars cheaper." How the heck are salespeople supposed to react??????

Considering the accessories, that puts me $17 under invoice before all the fees and taxes. I'm sure I could've done a little better, but this experience was fairly low effort and relatively painless. I do recommend David McDavid Honda in Frisco. They were very knowledgable and low/no-pressure all the way.
I ended up finding someone in my Church who wanted to buy my old Accord, so no trade-in was necessary. That really made this an easy negotiation. Still the process took 3 and 1/2 hours to pick a car and buy it which is a long time with an 11-month old girl along for the ride. Fortunately she did very well.
How much was the extended warrenty cost?

Start with the Honda site. The Honda dealers need to pass certain qualifications in order for them to be listed as an Internet dealership. Thats one way, another way is to Google a search term, like 'Honda Dealers in Maryland' or whatever your state is...if you know the dealership then Google that to get their specific website URL.

For me, the choice was simple. For me to go to OH, I save a couple thousand dollars, not a "couple hundred of bucks." The lowest quote that I received for 06 EXL RES/NAV in VA/MD/DC was $33,674 (vehicle only). Most dealers here are more firm with their prices. Considering I paid $30,743 (vehicle only), it was well worth going there. Now I did get a quote of $30,843 from Crystal Lake Honda in ILL, and I am glad that I did. Mike Pruitt Honda in OH matched that price instantly.
With that quote in hand, I tried to get a dealership in PA to match that price (about 3 hour drive), but no dealership would. Because I knew dealership in this area would not move on their prices, I purchased the vehicle from Mike Pruitt. It was a game to me, but it was worth it because I saved $2000 - 3000.
To others forum dwellers living in California or Hawaii or Alaska, I can clearly see your argument...but for me, the choice was simple.
1) My local dealer has a horrible service department. We took our Odyssey there a few times and they were always rude to my wife. I do all of the required servicing myself.
2) My local dealer has a poor sales philosophy (in my opinion). In the 5 years that I have lived near them I have bought 4 NEW Hondas. I always go to them first but they are basically MSRP only. If I ask for a discount the salesperson will present it to the manager, and then the manager yells at the salesperson (seemingly making sure we can hear). They told us once that all of the Richmond VA Honda dealers have agreed to not undersell each other.
3) I don't mind taking a road trip and having some fun with it. For example, this weekend we drove 100+ miles to Landmark Honda to check out their deals. In the end my wife decided not to get a new van this weekend (her 2001 is like new and has been trouble free). However, on the trip we did some shopping and ate at some restaurants that were new to us. Our kids watch movies and read books in the car, and love shopping and eating out so it is fun for all.
4) Usually when I make the trip I am saving more than $500. I travel for the deals like Landmark Honda had this weekend (~$500 below invoice and no processing fee which is unheard of in Virginia).
Obviously I'm not the kind of buyer you would want at your dealership, but hopefully this helps you understand better.

Just wanted to check with the forum if that is normal and they take time to get back or is it because it is the month end or they just don't like me

Had multiple quotes from all the dealers in and around Seattle. Burien Honda and Discovery Honda from Moses Lake were the lowest. Other dealers were not willing to budge from the $29950-$30500 price range. When I mentioned that I have a lower quote they were not ready to commit to that price,their take was, come see us with the copies of the email and we will see what we can do. I THANKED them.
The internet sales guy from Sims Honda from Burlington had a big attitude problem, when I mentioned that I was getting this price, he said that all over washington there were just 3 Slate Green with Olive EX-L and he had 2 of them, I sent him an email asking him to beat this price and he replied back stating that I was getting this good deal why was I going back to him again for a better price :mad: He also mentioned that we would not give his EX-L to other dealers
On the day I was going to finalize the deal, Renton Honda and Kirkland Honda called stating that they would beat the invoice price, but their OTD price was still higher. :surprise:
The experience at Burien Honda was just nice. No pressure no false promises. Everything was taken care-of. While signing the papers they did not even try to sell me the extended warranty.

Leith Honda of Raleigh quoted 250 over invoice. I did not follow up with them.
Went with Cary since they had the color I wanted.
Now, on to the news. I emailed 11 dealers in the Atlanta area and took the best price to Hennessy Honda (closest to me) and they matched it. They even gave me the roof rails and the cargo net for free.
Paid $29,299 + TTL for a slate green EXL-RES for a final out the door price of $31077. Overall it was an excellent shopping experience and I would recommend them to anyone.

Do some research. Google a search term like "Honda Odyssey Atlanta" (or whatever) and see who comes up. Try "Honda dealers XTown" find their sites and book mark them.
Now after you have their sites go through their inventory. If you see the exact car you are looking for, more than likely you'll find a form to fill out for more information on that car. Fill it out...and so on. You will be contacted.
Honda has a strange way of working their inquiries...lets just say that it's not the best. We have their leads pasrse to another system and that makes all the difference. We can usually have a complete price quote out in about an hour.
I did an internet search for the dealers in the area then went to each dealers web site. Also, the Sunday AJC has a Wheels section in which it lists all the dealerships for each make along with their individual web sites. Every dealer web site should have a "request a quick quote" link. Fill it in and go onto the next one. With a prewritten form letter, the whole process took about 30 minutes. I began receiving quotes literally within a couple of minutes.
I suggest sending them out within a week of the end of the month and make sure to tell them that you intend to make a purchase before the end of the month. They are much more willing to deal during that period.

Sent request for quote to multiple dealers, make clear that I am at the final stage, paying cash, be specific on what color, model and assecories. A couple of dealer start bidding for the business.
Overall the experience is pleasant. One thing stands out is that the further the dealership is localed away from major metro, the more willing they are to negotiate. Some dealer in downtown won't even entertain selling at invoice.

I worked a price of invoice plus $500 ($26,602) thru the internet before going to Ken Garff in Ogden, UT. I had an appointment with the sales manager at a specific time, but when I arrived there were shoppers everywhere! That had 4 EX cloths earlier in the week, but when I arrived for my "appointment", and was quickly farmed of to a salesman (never did talk to the manager), he couldn't even find one of the cloth EX's, They sold 6 Ody's that day.
I traded in an 04 Sienna LE, so had to play a couple of hours of salesmen games, but overall it was a decent experience. I had specified an allowable "doc fee" charge in advance, but that didn't work. They honored that internet deal, added a $299 doc fee, plus tax, title and license (27693 OTD).
Note: Stockton to Malone in SLC offered over the Internet a $300 over invoice deal, but $200 was not enough to get wifie to SLC - too far - I have to drag her to car dealers - she hates the game - I kind of like it.

OTD or Out The Door is a very relative term. The tax and registration & title can be different in different states & counties. It does not give a good comparision in prices.
Therefore you need to focus on the cost of the vehicle + doc fees. This is usually a very good benchmark of prices that you can get and negociate.
TTL is not negociable and will have to be paid to the government.

I mentioned this to my local dealers and they said that it is impossible to get this price and that I may be buying a USED vehicle. They said that they pay 31,673(Invoice) for the van and that it is impossible that anyone can sell me a vehicle for less than 31,000.
The dealer nearest to me also said that when I get the vehicle for service - "their customers get the best service". If I am not a customer then I may have to wait longer.
I am a little worried if I should go out of town. I have never purchased from out of town. Not sure what treatment I will get from the out of town dealership when I reach there. Will they jack up the price ect...and tell me other fees.
Can anyone advice.

I got this price online after sending quotes from other dealers in the area to Laurel. They tried to sneak on the "Ourisman Appearance Package" for $1,400+ mentioning it quietly on the contract at the end. We said no way, we had had much communication prior and it was never mentioned. He returned from manager and said OK it's knocked off, and only when pressed said he could do so because it was fresh off the truck and the appearance package was not yet installed.
We were pleased we did our homework using this site.

I was told the same thing in MD/VA/DC area for the same vehicle. I bought my van for $30,743 from Mike Pruitt HOnda in Ohio. The lowest quote that I received was $33,100 for the vehicle. I passed on "their offer" and purchased the van last week and picked it up yesterday.
Love the van with Nav. Very helpful.
I say, it the deal saves you over $2000, then it is worth driving around 6 hours like I did; but if you are saving less that $1500, then it may not be worth it for some people.
