All used the same price, MSRP so there was no advantage there other than peace of mind.
We ended up at Superior in Council Bluffs, ordering for the 3 month wait but actually buying when an "extra" came in at about 6 weeks. Sales person was Mari and she did a good job. She mentioned that we'd be getting a survey but didn't suggest we give her "excellent" ratings.
Although we didn't intend to buy the Honda warrenty, the price was given to us by that salesman, first for about $1100 and then for about $1000. I found that interesting after reading other notes in this discussion where the prices seem to vary greatly for the 7/100/0 policy.
Thanks again and now, I suppose, I'll be watching the problem discussion knowing that problems are relatively few compared to the total numbers. But, if it happens to me, that's 100%.
I recommend that you think about the HondaCare warranty 7years/100Kmiles, zero deductible. You can buy it from several dealers named on this thread for about $900. Sure you don't get $$ back, but every Honda dealer honors the warranty, and with API (and others) you often have to wait a day or two for the warranty company to look at the problem and then authorize the repair. Do you rent a car to get to work in the meantime? Oops. $25 per day out of pocket. What is the deductible?
Third party warranties can often be like Blue-Light Specials. The aggravation and delays overcome the savings. And, in your case, you have to pay $1500 vs. $900 to Honda, and only if you have no claims do you come out ahead.
And, finally, the company has to be in business 5 or 6 years from now.
Good luck.
Paying MSRP and will only get the 7/100/0 warrenty there if they will price match $875.00.
Already they've thrown a wrench into our plans though as we're using eloan to finance part of it. Sales rep said sometimes they have trouble getting that through--whatever that means and had us apply for credit through them to see if they could match or do better than 7.3% fixed rate.
So we'll see I guess!
Thanks again.
Thanks.
Before that, I considered to buy one from that Ohio dealer Jay Honda. Then I called around Bay Area. Found out several dealers willing to sell at MSRP.
Ocean Honda at Capitola is one of them, as somebody mentioned previously. The problem is that you have to wait at least for one month. I don't want the uncertainty of waiting.
Two dealers in Fresno can also do it, without any waiting list. I think one is Honda North. I forgot the sales person name. He only agreed the MSRP price two days after I promised to buy from another dealer.
Everything was pretty smooth. Well, I should not try to pretend Fresno is part of Bay Area. It is 160 miles away from my home. So I had to pay $25 and spend 3 1/2 hours on Greyhound to get there and Ray picked me up at the Fresno Station. Took me 3 hours to drive back home.
Anyway, if you need that information, please send me email at sanghavi@yahoo.com.
My question regarding the Hondacare warranty is this: Is it worth it for the LX? The dealer offered $855+tax for 7/100/0 HC, and I deferred, knowing I'd look at mileage and characteristics in the first 6-9 months before deciding. Price was the best I'd seen this side of Alton Blakely, and telling them of that price enabled them to offer it. FWIW, Finance guy told me that $855 is 'Cost + $30.'
Thanks to all of who post on this and related Odyssey sites-it helped tremendously in convincing me that $25K for an Ody LX beats a discounted DGC for a slightly less price for our family.
Thanks,

Is a Odyssey warranty a good deal? I would think if the dealer is going to make money of the warranty, it would be better to take the risk and not pay upfront. Is the Odyssey unreliable enough that a warranty is needed?
It is a "Specifically designed Video Cassette Player, with a roof mounted 7.0" flip-down TFT-LCD screen." Controlled from up front between driver and passenger seats and fully functional wireless remote. Capable of interfacing to video game consoles, protable DVD players, camcorders, etc. Can listent to audio through the vehicle's sound system, or through headphones. My Odyssey hasn't shipped yet, but I think I will be adding this feature.
Just thought you might want to know....
Jeff
Thanks in advance for all the pointers
You might think about Blast Fax Car Buying too.
Luck!

and he said they are now getting to the people who is on waiting list from January of 2000.
The van would be delivered in July.
Is the extra 2500 worth for the EX?
2 of my friends had problem with the power sliding door.. Is the Ex still worth it?
thanks
You get:
1. 16 inch tires with alloy wheels. It is a must for a van that heavy. The steel wheels won't cut it and you might have the famous "shimming" problem.
2. roof rack
3. automatic climate control
4. anti-theft protection
5. power driver seat.
6. power doors
7. CD player
8. body color mirror and side bar.
what else do I miss?
Well, the feeling of driving a EX instead of a LX.

Other than the alloy rims what performance qualities are you talking about? The power driver seat? The new LX seat adjusts the same way.
My van drives great on those steel rims, no shimmys whatsoever.
Nothing on your list points to performance.
Since traction control was added to the LX the extras(alloy rims being the exception) on the EX are cosmetic or creature comforts. Not that there is anything wrong with that. You do get a fair $2500 worth of them. Roof rack? Only functional if you use it, something you need to ask yourself before buying and then its only what, $400 or so too add if you go the LX route, cheaper if your a little handy.
I'm still curious about this "Feeling". Sounds like a status feeling to me. But hey, if thats what your into, nothing wrong with that either.....to each is his/her own.
I am also considering one of the internet services. I am afraid most of them look like they are just representing one dealer. Some of the other online services post prices a lot more than MSRP. I'll try the faxes first to see what happens.
OD so far no one has answered my question that " Has anyone ever paid MSRP in LA area?" I read ray bear's multiple messages regarding MSRP in LA. But no one else replied yet. I have tried LiquidPirce.com which is one of the on-line pricing site listed on Edumunds.com. I had one quote for a LX which was exactly MSRP a few weeks ago, but it was a GA color and I am looking for S. Since it was the first quote I got, I didn't jump on it and accept the bid. Then I got a 2nd quote for a AS EX a week later. It was $1000 above MSRP ($27840.- which is almost $4000.- above invoice listed on Edumunds.com). I added the dealer hold back 2% (which is my guess) and totaled about $4500.- profit for dealer on this van. I didn't jump on the 2nd one either. Too bad Edmunds took the Dealer hold back list off their site now. Must be the PRESSURE from Advertiser. Anyway I submitted another quote request for a AS EX thru LiquidPrice.com. So far I haven't gotten any bid yet. Every quote request only lasts for 48 hours @ LiquidPrice.com. I will keep you posted, so soon as I got anything in the email. I tried Autobytel.com before I purchased my Toyota Avalon 1997. All I got was some local dealers called me and promised to give me a good deal but I have to go to their dealerships to WORK OUT the detail price. I balked on all those dealer' call. I don't know whether Autobytel has improved or not since 1997. This time I haven't tried any of those web sites yet. I liked LiquidPrice.com policy that I will not get any dealer's phone call unless I accept the bidding price, which works very good with me.
I read way back a few weeks ago some guy mentioned LA dealers asks above MSRP and some San Diego dealer is willing to deal at MSRP. But he or she didn't post how much he or she paid at which dealership. I think maybe just some SD dealer's fake post and wants LA people to go down south to buy there. Which I won't mind to take a few hours drive and pick up a minivan there if I can get it at MSRP.
Anyway good luck to your shopping at Bay area. I hope my 93 Mercury Villager (which has 169,000 miles on it) will hold together till I get a good deal on new Odyssey.
Sorry about mis-spelling words in my message. I tried to use the spell check and goofed. Those color Code GA s/b GG and AS or S s/b: SS.

Good luck in your search. You might try Edmunds' Power Shopper for additional internet quotes in your area.

Actually the shimmy you are talking about when an LX was involved was attributed to the Affinitys first before anything mechanical was looked into. Not the rims.
And you say "keep in mind were not talking about a sports car here??!!!" How dare you, after you went over to the MPV boards and ridculed thier van for being so unpowered. Performance seemed to matter then but now it doesn't as much? Things that make you go hmmmmmmm.
Creature comforts are important to the individual buyer only, just because you prefer them doesn't mean they are soooooo important to everybody else in the minivan buying segmant. Some of us are after value, some of us just can't afford the EX. If you covet them so much, why didn't you buy the T&C limited or whatever they call the EX priced new thing they came up with.
Oh yeah, now whats that special feeling you were talking about. Us LXers would like to know what that is, perhaps we can buy it from Trevor.
I wasn't fooling around. I'm not allowed to disclose the dealers' names under the terms of our agreement with them. Try Powershopper like Steve suggested; there are internet sites that request competetive bids not just the one you mentioned.
I live in Atlanta and recently (Dec.2000) I searched for Honda dealers within a 2 hour driving distance and wrote to a few of them. As expected the Metro Atlanta dealers wanted to pile on $$ on top of MSRP. But, some of the smaller town dealers offered MSRP (and I am sure with today's economy you can bargain some more on a new car - no matter what car/van!).
If distance is a problem for you, some of the dealers would even deliver the car for you and do the paperwork at your home! (atleast that's how it works in the good old Southeast!).
So, I would just write an email to each of the dealers and ask them for a FIRM DRIVE OUT PRICE. And only respond to the ones that you like (worst case, drive a couple of hours and find one in a neighboring state!).
Good Luck!
