BigBlueBlogger, I'm about to buy an EX-L in northern NJ. Does your 27,108 price include destination and documentation charges? Open Road is offering me $28,257 (27,400 car + 550 dest + 298 docs) which is $1 below invoice, however seven other local dealers have a given me a better price. Best so far is 774 below invoice.

I thought 28,258 is the invoice price - not correct?

I just bought my Odysses EX-L RES & NAV two months ago, Can I turn back now or I have to sell it ?
I am sure if i should post this here.

Whether you bought or leased your Odyssey, if you want to get rid of it, you have to sell it..

If it sells for less than the loan payoff, then you'll have to make up the difference..

    You can't "turn it back".

I'm very happy with the deal we just got on our new Ody. I used Costco's Auto buying program to make a contact with the fleet guy at our local Honda dealer. I made an appt, he showed me the invoice and told me the Costco price was $300 over invoice. We bought the van a few hrs later. It was the easiest, quickest sale I've ever done and this is our 7th new car purchase in 7 years.

06 Touring with Res and Nav
    slate green/olive
    invoice $35,447 + $300 = $35747

So far I'm loving the van and very happy I chose it over the Sienna. Very nice rig.

The fact that you don't agree with me does not mean that I'm not being "productive."

I very well understand the upfront expense of extended warranties and have not (yet) bought one for my '05 Touring R&N. In the event that I decide to keep it for an extended period (unlikely given my past history), I will buy Honda's.

Previously had a '99 Odyssey for 70,000 miles. The only untold repair it needed after the factory warranty expired was the transmission which Honda replaced - for free - twice. If I had purchased ANY extended warranty for that vehicle I'd have wasted my money.
  • gagliogaglio Member Posts: 2
Are you saying that you have a price of $28258 out the door for the EX-L, and if so does it have res or nav? Hell I'd fly out to the East Coast for that. In California I have seen the price around $31K equipped only w/res and the tax et al aren't added in to that number yet...

    torrential & bigblueblogger,
I am in central NJ and in the market for an Odyssey. Could you tell me the names of the dealers that offered you the best prices so far? Have you been able to get prices that include everything except TT&L? Also, did you get the best prices after your initial contact with them or did you go back and forth before getting better quotes. I requested a few quotes yesterday and the Open Road quote came back almost instantaneously. Do you think they will improve on that quote?
    Thanks in advance--Gregg

I need a loan to but an Odyssey EX.

I have a very good credit history around 700 pts. I was wondering what is the best place to get the loan and around what rate would be a good deal?

    I live in California.

    Any ideas?

I'm not sure if this is nationwide or not, but I was told Honda is doing 4.99% on ALL vehicles through the end of the month. You might check with your dealer. Otherwise, if you belong to a credit union, they seem to have pretty good rates, ours is at 4.5% for a new car up to 72 months. Good luck!

Picked up a Desert Rock '06 EX-L/RES/NAV with wheel locks and mud guards for $30,865 + TTL at Lake Norman Honda in Huntersville, NC this past Saturday. Worked with Ken Thurmond and the experience was painless. He held the deal for me for over a week while I was selling another vehicle and just as we were pulling out, we discovered the DVD wasn't working. They swapped one out of another Odyssey and we were on our way. The only thing I wish I could have negotiated down was the doc fees of $399, but you can't win them all (or at least I can't) ;)

We are having a hard time finding a competitive offer from dealers in the central area of AL. Ten emails have been sent to local dealers and the lowest we can get is $32,175 +TTL. Has anyone in AL or the Southeast been able to get a lower price?
It seems like AL dealers do not want to make a deal as good as the deals are going in NC or other states, as posted on this site. It seems weird that we are only 50 miles from the factory in Lincoln, AL, where the ODY is assembled.

Hi, Torrential. Sorry for the late reply, and for the ambiguity in my earlier post. Invoice for the EX-L is $27,708 without destination charge, $28,258 with the charge. Open Road quoted $27,108 plus destination, which is still $600 below invoice.

Their price has bounced around the past week: up $300, then back down a bit. I haven't set foot in the dealership yet, so I don't know what the OTD price would be, or what sort of tricks they might pull once they get us in the door. If nothing else, their instant quotes are a good hammer to use in negotiations with other dealers.
  • bigbluebloggerbigblueblogger Member Posts: 12
Hi, Gregg. I don't get the feeling that the Internet Department at Open Road negotiates much. Their pricing does fluctuate, so you might get lucky and the quote might drop. It also might go up. The direction seems to be driven more by the market than by the customer's negotiating skills.

You can probably save about $1500 if you contact internet sales at Butler Honda in Milledgeville, GA. You may also want to check the Columbus, GA. area Honda dealer. Let me know how you make out. Best Wishes.
  • pashipashi Member Posts: 16
alnu2ody, check my post right before your post, #12084. If you are willing to come to the Charlotte area, you might be able to get the same deal. Good luck!

I have got a lot of info from this site and it is time for me to contribute. I emailed about 25 dealers from Honda's site in Columbus/Dayton/Cincinnati (Ohio) areas. After a few times of negotiation, I got a deal as follows from a dealer in Cincinnati area:
$25,500 (including destination) + free splashguard
    + $100 Doc fees
    + $20.5 Title fees etc
    + tax

It is $600 below invoice with free splashguard. I took the deal and got the car yesterday.

I am definitely wary of the hidden charges that the delaer will attempt to throw in once you are at the dealership. At that point, they know you are at their mercy because your heart is set on bringing home that nice ride. When I receive quotes, I will be replying and asking them to itmeize all charges, including things that should be normal such as destination, DMV, Doc fees, etc, Give me everything or don't waste my time. Thanks for all of your help people. Great info will save me some bucks.

in the San Francisco BAy AREA,,,,,lowest price that I could get was invoice plus $100, at Autowest Honda in Fremont. But I ended up not buying there...because they gave me too little for my Acura TL trade-in.

I ended up paying invoice plus $800 for the EXL....but they gave me about much more for the TL trade-in. So I ended up buying at a more expensive dealer , in order to get a better deal....ironic but true....

It pays to look at the big picture. :-)

I received a wide variety of quotes from Dayton/Columbus/KY. The best deal came right up front from Matt Castrucci Auto Mall. They offered the EX-L for $27,334.58 (includes destination) plus tax and documentation fees. She stated that it was only good for in stock van and only in March.
It may help that the auto show is in town and the end of the month is coming up.

    Hi

I am shopping for extended warranty for 2006 Honda Odyssey EX-L and i live in California.

Is it okay for me to take the extended warranty from any dealer in US (like Mike Pruitt in Ohio) ? Have any of faced any issues by buying warranty from a place where you dont belong.

    Thanks for your inputs.

I just bought a EXL in California....and got the 8 yr/120/0 ded warranty. I paid over the $1253 dealer price ( I suspect they still make money at that price ) They tried to push it to me for $2200 ....but finally got it for $1500. They agreed to throw in some extras , so I went for it. I could have haggled more and gotten a lower price..but it was good enough for me. If you have enough time, go for $1300 in California...Just let them know you know the bottom price.

I suggeest you call the Honda USA information line, and they will let you know if it is OK to buy the extended warranty from other dealers. Buying the warranty means the dealer has to submit all your vehicle info to Honda USA...but that is not hard to do....

I just purchased a EX-L R&N in Redrock Pearl from Team Honda in Michigan City, IN for $325 over invoice. Heck, I was just happy to find one with a NAV system less than 100 miles from me. Dealt completely through the internet, checked numbers against Edmunds, and got a figure much less than "What Other's Are Paying".....so I was happy. Take delivery tomorrow.
  • wwdcatcwwdcatc Member Posts: 35
It is fine to purchase the warranty anywhere except for Florida.

The price at Mike Pruitt Honda is $1230. Great to work with. Ask for Finance Manager. He is in charge of Extended Warranty sales.

Last time I talked to him, he was willing to give that price to anyone, as long as you have proof that you have a lower quote. Also, tell them you are a member of this board. I did.

    Hope this helps.

Anyone had good quote experience with any dealer near by Southeast Michigan area (including north of Ohio area) on 06 LX?

Seems like most of members are talking about EX-L.

I am under tight budget so, LX will be good enough for me...........

Not sure where you are, but if you are willing to drive the hour and half across the state, I'm sure you can get the same type of deal I got in Michigan City, IN.....Team Honda. $325 over invoice (which would put it somehwere around $23,600). PM me and I'll give you the guys email address I was working with....I did everything over the internet and had a price negotiated before I ever walked in (I'm 50 miles east of Michigan City in Elkhart).

I just got a quote of $32,100 for a touring with every option, sticker of near $36k.

That seemed pretty fair to me, I'm picking it up tomorrow unless someone thinks that I could do better.

    Any feedback would be appreciated!

Actually a Touring with Every Option (Touring R&N) MSRPs around $40K ($39,345) with an Invoice of $35,448. So if you were quoted $32K, you are looking at $3500 below invoice, which would be a phenominal deal.

If it were me, I would double check just to make sure I was getting a Touring with every option. Sounds more like a EX-L R&N (which is what I just purchased).

I just got a quota of $21,500 for LX. Is it a good deal? I live in LA.

www.carsdirect.com shows that 58% buyer chose EX-L, but only 18% chose LX, 14% chose EX. Why EX-L is so popular than LX/EX?

    Thanks a lot!
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
There's a post just today on another site from a guy who said he bought an Odyssey (don't recall which model) from Penske for $100 over invoice. Unfortunately, he said that they misrepresented the extended warranty (which he will cancel due to the grossly excessive fee).
  • silentwatchersilentwatcher Member Posts: 5
That's interesting........I ASKED for a touring with Nav and DVD player, leather interior. Perhaps there was miscommunication :confuse: Do dealers typically go under invoice on these vehicles?
  • silentwatchersilentwatcher Member Posts: 5
Is 32,100 bad for an EX-L? I'm sure that's what they think I meant. It's probably better for me anyway.....I don't need the power pedals or seat memory.
  • highenderhighender Member Posts: 1,358
I don't know about others...but EXL has the leather and 3 cylinder deactivation that may save some gas...plus it has leather ?
Also,,,,to many of my friends, the fact that Ex and EXL can seat 8 people , is a big plus. The models at either end, the LX and Touring, can only seat 7.

EXL is really not expensive in this day and age...so maybe a greater proportion of people are opting for it.

consider this...in 1994, I bought a previa minivan, back then the hottest minivan around, with cloth seats, only 160 hp, no power sliding doors, for the then good price of $29,000 !!!! THE Odyssey is light years better ...and costs about the same.... Now if you factor in inflation, and amount of amenities in Ody , then the Ody is down right a bargain at even MSRP !!!
  • highenderhighender Member Posts: 1,358
Power pedals is definitely needed if you are shorter than 5'2"....because some shorter people cannot reach the pedals in normal cars, so they move the seats up so much that their lower abdomen is touching the steering wheel. This is very dangerous, cause in event of an accident/collision, the airbag may break the short persons' neck and kill him/her...or cause severe spinal injuries.

Memory seats are good if more than 1 person regularly uses the van, and each frequently have their hands full, and both are very different in stature. If none of the above is true..then you really do not need the Touring.

Of course, the power rear hatch is also good for people with their hands full most of time....
  • pusterracingpusterracing Member Posts: 186
32,100 is not too bad for a EX-L Res & Nav, it is about $500 over invoice, or $3000 under MSRP. You can probably get them to throw in a few extras too, like locking lugs, etc.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
pusterracing laid out the price points quite nicely. If you made that offer on a Touring R&N, it's no wonder you received a harsh reply.

Various posters here have bought Odysseys at or very near (or even below) invoice but, no, they do not typically sell for less than invoice.

here are some current pre-tax quotes on a 2006 EX, it includes, doc, lic, title

other that crystal lake these are in the detroit area, and
    northern ohio

26,430.00 troy, does not even include title, lic
    26,418.00 fischer
    26,081.50 jim white
    26,027.50 brown
    25,875.50 park
    25,632.86 lafontaine
25,450.33 crystal lake, base price 25,250, say they're "on sale"

looks like some of the lowest prices lately, wonder if the end of the month AND the end of 1st quarter has anything to do with it?

I can not get a response from Mike Pruitt, anybody else have the same problem?

that was only round one. Round two will be playing off the lowest against they rest to see how how they respond. Round three will be the lowest price plus extras like cross rails and fog lamps. I hope my plan goes through. it's fun playing the game, but the wife just wants the van now like a kid before Christmas.

this forum has been great hope this info helps others.

First, I want to thank everyone for the great info on this forum! It enabled me to know a good deal when I saw one. I also think I got a better deal because of the fact that I mentioned I had done a lot of price research on forums like this when I sent out my requests for quotes to dealers.

Anyway, I just purchased a Silver Pearl Metallic EX-L with RES at Honda Mall of Georgia in the Atlanta area for $28,750 plus $499 doc fee. Even if you include the doc fee, it was still about $600 under invoice. I live in the Atlanta area, so it was great to find a deal like that so close to home. Best of luck to everyone else still looking.

Hi All: I am in market for Honda Odyssey. I like the EX version but i was wondering is it possible t oget the EX version with DVD but without leather. I have seen EX-L version with DVD. But is it possibel to get EX or cloth version with DVD? My wife doesn't want the leather as it gets too cold for kids in cold weather.
I was quoted $25650 for 2006 EX and was wondering if dealer could add a DVD to it? thanks

$27334.58 seems like a good price for an EX-L, especially with destination included. Just got back from Castruccis Friday, they quoted $28145, with an out-the-door of $30,250. White Allen offered $28150, but with lower title, etc for an out the door of $30,000.

Depending on other responses, a run to Pruitt in Akron ($75 in gas) may be in my future.

Why not just add an Aftermarke DVD Player. It ends up being much cheaper and you can get a larger/removeable DVD player. I have some friends who did this in their '05 Ody and an love it. They still control it from the front with the remote, and the player is unobtrusive and doesn't interfere with the mirror (I think the went with a 10.2" model, still over 10% larger than the factory). Anyway, aftermarket is one option and probably the least expensive option.
