My experience was great in San Diego, and I would suggest to always insist to put everything on writting, most dealerships have people that do not play fair because they just want to make a sale, and always meet the general sales manager, believe me it is extremely important to meet the general sales manager, not the sales manager. I was at the Paragon Honda Dealer in LIC queens about two weeks ago, they offered me a 2001 ex odyssey for MSRP for 500 down and three week wait. Check them out I hear Hillside honda offers for MSRP also.

can contact me at sziegler@bennett.nb.com if you want to

You mention a great experience in San Diego. Any further details? Dealership, salesman's name, general manager's name, price paid, add-ons, accessories, etc? I'm researching a future Ody EX purchase and would appreciate the feedback from your experience. Thanks.

Has anyone [successfully] used the Sam's Club Auto Buying program when purchasing an EX? How does it work?
  • makersmarkmakersmark Member Posts: 6
Curry Honda on Peachtree Industrial quoted MSRP + MANDATORY dealer appearance pkg. ($895) for the EX and a three-week wait. Any other Atlantans out there with better pricing/delivery recently? How about in neighboring states?

Hi-I tried to use the Sam's club deal and the lady didn't have a dealer listed with them in my area (LA) so she was going to try to get connected with one and I was to call her back. I did and she was not available and I left a message but she never called me back. By then, I had pretty much decided which dealership I was going to go with anyway. She did say that the prices I was getting were good (MSRP). I hope it works better for you!

On Thursday (4/19) last week I called a Honda dealership about an Accord I was considering. During my conversation I mentioned something about an Odyssey to the internet sales mgr. She told me she had 1, available now with NAVI. This changed my plans to get an Accord...

I went in that Saturday (4/21) and picked up the Ody. No deposit/no wait and best of all not at MSRP. They ended up charging me 28,300 (msrp is 28,800)and threw in the Honda bug deflector, mud flaps and the wheel locks. All in all it was a very good experience and would recommend the dealer (Sussman Honda in Roslyn, PA) to others.

If anyone cares to use them, ask for Marissa and tell them Mark sent you (White Ody traded for Black Pathfinder).
  • netbid99netbid99 Member Posts: 6
Check KY dealers. Two months ago, it took me approx. four minutes to buy Ody $500 bellow, no options. You can also get Honda Care for $875 (100/7/0). I was able to hear one better deal, but my new Ody required 10-minute drive.
It was very hard to match that part ... :-)
    Good luck.

    Hi there,

What is the best price I can expect on the 5/100/0 warranty. My dealer (Metro Honda, Ferndale Michigan) offered 725$. I'm sure I can do better, but did not want to wade throught the 1200 messages to find the note. Can someone tell me where to call or the # of the message that has this info? Thanks.

Also, anyone installed the honda wind deflector on a mesa beige van? How does it look? I understand it has a greenish tint.

    What's included for the $895?

I asked for the package here and got the mud-guards, fender-well trim, door-edge guards, and wheel locks. And a tub-liner tray for the cavity where the third-row bench seat folds down into. They charged $398.
  • draytm01draytm01 Member Posts: 19
I have the wind deflector on my white van. It looks like smoke black, but when you look carefully it is does have a greenish tint. You can find it at Handaaccessories.com for much cheaper than the dealer charges too.

Netbid99, which KY dealers did you contact? Alton Blakely offered $500 off MSRP, no options...any others that you contacted? I am from KY originally so making a trip up there may make sense (see the family at the same time).

Prophet2, I think the $895 dealer package included all that you mentioned plus pin striping. I estimate $250 in direct parts cost plus a few hours of labor. Not a bad margin for the dealership. Given the demand for the ODY in Atlanta, they appear to be selling the package without much complaint.
  • prophet2prophet2 Member Posts: 372
I guess I didn't do so badly giving my dealer a little more on his bottom line. I wonder what kind of pinstriping "art" I can get for another $497 ........... :>)

Have you found your Odyssey in Bay area?
  • dj5dj5 Member Posts: 42
When I was shopping for our Odyssey in January all the dealers in the Atlanta metro area were adding the $895 (additional dealer mark-up). Bought our Odyssey from Alton Blakley in Sommerset, KY for $1000 below MSRP ($25,840). However, I understand that they are now only discounting to $500 below MSRP. You would still save $1400 for a day's drive. They are good folks and I would highly recommend.

    Hi, Everyone

I am shopping for a Honda Ody. + Nav in the Bay area. I checked both Oakland Honda and San Leandro Honda, all want MSRP + $1000. Anyone has recently Ody. purchase experience in the SF Bay area? Is it a good deal? Anywhere I can find a dealer who is willing to sell at MSRP?

    Thanks

DOES ANYONE HAVE ADVICE ON GETTING A GOOD PRICE ON LONG ISLAND?
I CAN GET MSRP BUT WITH A 2-6 MONTH WAIT. DOES ANYBODY SEE A PROBLEM WITH LEAVING A DEPOSIT FOR {A WAITING LIST} WITH MULTIPLE DEALERS, THEN GOING WITH THE ONE THAT DELIVERS FIRST. HAS ANYONE HAD PROBLEMS WITH GETTING YOUR DEPOSIT BACK FROM THE LOSING DEALER?

I picked up my GG EX last Monday from Honda East in Cincinnati after a 6 week wait. I showed up at 7pm with my wife, kids, and checklist in hand. This was the first time I had seen the dealership, as all activity was conducted via email or phone up until then. There were 4 Odysseys that I could see there, including a demo. Mine was already washed up and had the roof rack cross bars installed. We finished up the loan application and gave insurance info to our sales rep. We went out and got a introduction to the features and learned how things worked. We took the van for a test drive while they processed the paper work. We came back about 20 minutes later, and everything else was ready for us to sign. We signed the papers and were out of the parking lot by 8:10 pm. When we got home, we realized that we forgot to write the check for the downpayment! I called the dealership right away. They knew why I was calling, and told me to mail it to them in the morning (the dealership was 25 miles from home, so hand delivering it was inconvenient).
This was the most painless car purchase I have had, new or used. I would highly recommend Honda East and Lou Ann Robb, who handles Internet Sales for the dealership.

    My bottom line:

    Van - $26,090 ($750 under MSRP)
    Cassette - $ 229
    Crossbars- $ 79
    Hondacare 7/100/0 - $ 900
    Cargo Tray - FREE
    Financed 60 months @7.04% APR

Given the time I ordered my van (early March), I was told I hit a gap where the Odyssey supply briefly exceeded demand for this dealership. I was also told that demand at their store has picked up a lot in the last 3 weeks, and that people will not be getting $750 under MSRP. You can still get under MSRP, but I'm not sure how much at this point.

    Happy shopping!

Very few dealers in the Bay Area sell at MSRP. You may have to broaden the search. I had an LX at sticker last week, it was a big surprise! Wrong color, though, and my client turned it down. If he only knew!

Looking for a good dealership in either Northeast Florida or Southeast Georgia. Has anyone had a recommendable experience within 100 miles of Jacksonville? Looking of a 2001 EX for MSRP or lower. Thanks
  • raybearraybear Member Posts: 1,795
one of our Southeast guys. He says you're better off being prepared to travel or pay $500 over MSRP in your area.

First off, thanks to all those who have posted to this "prices paid" board. Your info has been a great help to me in getting my 2001 GG EX (no options) for MSRP (actually a few bucks under!).

I bought my Ody a couple of weeks ago from Metro Honda in Montclair, fleet sales person was Irene Williams. She was very courteous and easy to deal with.

There are other dealers that quoted MSRP and I had my name on their list. The other dealers in the So Cal area that I've found are Unicars Honda (Palm Desert) and Gardena Honda.

I would like to say be careful of dealers who say they sell at MSRP but then slap on mandatory options so by the time you get the final price, you'll find you're still paying a premium. A couple of dealers add what I figured is $1,000 worth of options but they charge you $2,000 for. So it's still the going rate of $1,000 over, but you don't generally have to wait as long and they can sell them as soon as they get them, so I can't blame the dealer.

Also, I tried the internet sites like CarsDirect, AutoNation and Autobytel but found I could get a better price on my own (with the help of this board, of course). A friend of mine did use a broker to get his at sticker, so he didn't have to go through the research I did...but why miss all the fun?

    Hope this helps.
  • raybearraybear Member Posts: 1,795
Good deal. I've never had Metro quote an Odyssey at MSRP, same goes for Unicars. A few other dealers do MSRP so it's no big deal, but if you talk to Irene have her give me a call, thanks.

I just took delivery of a GG Odyssey EX-NV for MSRP (no options) from Robertson Palmdale Honda (60 miles north of Downtown LA). I dealt with the Internet Sales Manager, Jim Maze at sales@hondascheap.com; 661-265-6000. No haggling, no pressure-tactics, just friendly, courteous service. It took all of two mail messages and a 15 minute phone call to initiate and finalize the deal. After all the nonsense I had to endure with nearby LA dealers, it was refreshing and well-worth the drive.

Wait-time on this car was zero, but that was apparently because the intended buyer (who had placed the order from San Jose) had backed out. Still, they must be getting a fairly good allocation, because additional Odysseys were being off-loaded when we got there. For those of you in the Bay area, Jim told me he drives Odysseys to customers up there several times a month for a fee (to cover airfare back home).

The Finance Manager, Chris Stone, offered Honda Care Coverage (7yr/75k/0deduct) for $955, which seems to be in the ballpark for prices paid by others on the Net.

I am also interested in buying an GG EX (no Option) with MEtro Honda in Montclair. How long do you have to wait for yours? How can you get your under MSRP (even a few bucks)

    Thanks in advance

available in SoCal now at MSRP.

I want an Odyssey but have arrived at the conclusion that I am not going to be able to afford it unless their is a used Odyssey in the SF bay Area. Another alternative that you "chatters" may be able to help me with - Does anybody know of a manufacturer that does not ask for finance monies for their minivans(like Honda offers for their Accord and Civic cars)?
    Thanks!
  • raybearraybear Member Posts: 1,795
The used Odysseys are still fetching a pretty penny. My wife and I recently bought a Quest that cost half the price of the Oddy.

What price range are you in? Use Edmunds to help figure out what is available to you.

Try Stockton Honda. Jesse De La Cruz. SF Honda offered $200 over for an Emerald Green EX/no nav.
Everyone else still has the greedy goggles on.

I called to many dealers in past few months. All of them often give me a quote from $1500-$2500 above MSRP. Since the demand in the Bay Area is still high, Honda Dealers can play this game. If you are willing to pay higher than MSRP, they will keep on selling these good vans at a premium. As much as I would like to get a mini van for my family, (we are expecting a second child soon) but the thought of having to paying $3000-$5000 above invoice is too much. We are now considering an MPG, or a Senna. This is one customer that Honda dealers will not get the business.
  • amz997amz997 Member Posts: 61
I have seen few deals in philly area (Scott honda and pottstown honda) below msrp.
The wait time has reduced at these 2 dealers. The overall economy is also bad. too many layoffs and consumer confidence is dropping. With $2/gallon for premium gas, the demand for van/suvs will decerease.

I decided to get an accord ex instead of a odessey.
I will wait till odessey is offered $500 above invoice with no wait.

Judging by the recent spate of posts around Town Hall, many people are using these Spring weekends to go out and buy new cars. Congrats to all on their new rides.

In housekeeping matters, please remember that the Terms of Use (participants agreement) frowns on dealer soliciting or promoting. Thanks.

I ordered my Honda Ody over 2 months ago.
Built date was middle of April with delivery by 1st week of May. Now my salesperson says Honda had problems with painting in manufacturing and there is a 2 week delay on my Ody.

My question. Has anyone else heard about any delays in shipment of Odys?

I dont' have a VIN and now I asked for one.

    Thanks
    Warren

I gave up on the local dealers and found my Odyssey on the internet using Priceline. They took the hassle out of finding a car after I was unsuccessful on my own. There are plenty of internet services out there, perhaps you should give one of them a try.

Yesterday i went to Elmhurst Honda Dealer, suburb of Chicago and after 2 hrs i had them down to $115 over MSRP. I went for the EX w/ navi. The vehicle is guaranteed to be delivered in 7-10 days.

Have heard nothing about build delays for paint or any other reason. Placed refundable deposit first of Feb for a MB EX-Navi. ATT no word on build date, etc. Dealer only states that it appears that fewer Navi's are being built. Is this true? Am wondering how many more weeks (months) I'll be at the top of the "wait" list? Thought dealers at least had some say in colors delivered afterthey were given allocations by American Honda. Oh well, vacation trip isn't until Aug.
  • silverodysilverody Member Posts: 14
Your situation sounds terrible. What part of the country are you living? The wait around Wash-Baltimore is about 2 months. I passed up a silver ody with navi and a green w/o in the past two months while waiting for a silver ex w/o navi.

I hope you the best of luck.

I was just quoted on a 2001 EX Mesa Beige of $26,340 including destination charge. Adding tax, license, and fees the final bottom line price was $28,120.

Live in southcentral PA, work in MD. Ody on "order" from PA dealer below MSRP. Have received great treatment and support with a couple of items of dealer "add-ons" I want. I already have 10 accessories and detailing polishes on hand in my basement with a dashhugger and weatherflectors on order. The upside to the long wait is having a chance to read (and read, and read) the numerous Ody forums to hopefully, make me a bit wiser about the where and what fors of this great minivan. Also, it's provided time to read the owner's manual (but 2 times and working on a 3rd!!). But, I'm at least earning interest on the purchase monies and look at the money I'm saving on gas by still driving my '90 Honda Hatchback SI (246K and still going strong).

We are just getting into the Odyssey market, any suggestions?? Also, has anyone had any recent experiences in the central Indiana area with dealers, prices, etc.??

I recall people getting some decent prices around Toledo and Cleveland, I can't remember the names of the dealerships but the name Dan Towle comes to mind as a salesman mentioned, maybe that was the name of the place though. Anyways, its not too bad a drive from Central IN, especially the Toledo run....you might want to check those places if nothing pans out around Indy.

ody_man_out congratulations on the purchase of your new Odyssey. I also purchsed my 01 SS from Alton Blakley back in January. Until now, I thought that I had gotten the best price around of $25,840 (inc. dest) which is $1000 below MSRP.

I agree that dealership was great to work with and delivered what was agreed to with no surprises. For us it was a 350 mile from Atlanta.
We were able to drive up and back in a (long)day. We now have over 5000 miles on our Odyssey with zero problems.

Thanks for posting your messages. I'm also in St. Louis and I guess I'll compare your Somerset Honda price to what I can find locally. I have a 1998 Nissan Quest, though, that I wanted to trade in. I also wanted to do a bit of interest rate shopping. I guess maybe it's worth a call to the Ky dealer to see about a trade in price, etc. Thanks again for the lead.

It seems like the price of EX and LX is going down. In the northern VA Dealer asked for $500 to $1000 above MSRP and 2 - 3 weeks for delivery last month. This month I have received calls from local dealer (VA and MD). They have LX and EX available in 2 - 3 days at MSRP and some times below MSRP. I was offered EX at MSRP with an option package (Pin stripes,Mudguard and something else which I cannot remember) at the HONDA dealer in Fredricksberg.I refused it as it was not the color I wanted. My feeling is that a lot of folks had booked the minivan with refundable deposit and now with the economy dwindling..Some people are backing off and this will change the supply and demand situation. My guess is that we will buy Oddessy much below MSRP soon.

I heard through an Internet Sales Associate at Thomason Honda in Portland OR, that they could discount the Canadian version of the Odyssey(below MSRP), but not the American(selling exactly at MSRP, no more, no less). She claimed this was due to the Canadian Odyssey's warranty being voided because the factory exhaust would have to be modified because it didn't meet US standards(a third party warranty to be provided by dealer).

Has anyone else heard of this? Is her claim true?

I am about ready to enter the buying process, so I would like to know soon.

    Thanks a bunch.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
Canadian Odys have a couple more features (heated mirrors, low washer fluid indicator). As for the exhaust not meeting US standards, I've never heard that. AFAIK, all Odys meet the highest emmission standards. If the dealer wasn't changing the exhaust system - how could it pass inspection???

Those brought across the border from Canada usually have the odometer changed out to read miles instead of km. The problem with changing out the odometer is you can no longer sell the van without stating that total mileage is unknown - people are wary of buying vehicles with unknown mileage.

Also, the dealer may provide a third party warranty, but I personally would avoid that. I like the ability to drive into any Honda dealer and have warranty work taken care of - not dealing with calling toll free numbers for approval, etc.

The choice is yours, but I would go with one destined for a US dealer by Honda. Good Luck.

I would like to hear from LX owners regarding steel wheels versus alloy. I'm curious after reading the post about alloy being a must in a van this size. I would like to hear more opinions on this. If the LX has been shimmying on its wheels since the larger size came out, wouldn't this be appearing in reviews and used buying guides?

In my area, north of Boston near NH line, MSRP seems to be standard for orders, on-sites usually have add-ons. I've found a '99 LX for around 20,000. What's the best price anyone has gotten for leather? I've been quoted 1299.00 up to 2999.00. Since I'm looking to keep the price around 25,000 or under, I'm more interested in the LX.

Thanks in advance for your posts. I'm enjoying this site tremendously and printing out info like a fiend.
  • seanbertseanbert Member Posts: 3
I asked the Sales Associate for a more complete description of her statement, and here it is:
"The Canadian Odysseys don't meet US emissions standards, so when they are brought to the US they have to reconfigure the engine which then voids the Honda factory warranty. Some people don't mind becasue there is an aftermarket warranty that the dealership purchases and then puts on the Odyssey which actually inlcudes a few more items then the Honda warranty. Quite a few people though are a little suspicious of this non-Honda warranty and that is why you may be able to purchase them for below msrp."

    Sounds a little fishy...
