I'm just wondering if prices on cars vary by region. For instance, I'm in the NE, specifically NJ. Would a best price here be much higher than prices elsewhere?
I am wondering the same thing. I am in NE as well (Omaha)and have gotten bids from Lincoln ($29,995 including destination, did not counter my offer--they said we were too far apart) and Des Moines ($29,900 + fees, this is their second offer--they came down by $200).
From reading this board, it seems people are getting EX-Ls for about $1500 below invoice. The dealers around here are not moving much, however.
I have not gotten any bids from the Omaha dealers yet.

Opinions appreciated!
"I am trying to buy an EX model. Best quote so far is 24700 excluding tax. Can I do better? thanks"
If $24,700 includes Destination and all fees – you have the best deal posted to date.
About $25,00 including destination is the best deal I have seen. (w/ no dealer “prep fees”, (w/ no dealer “prep fees” or “dealer installed options” etc)
Have the dealer give you a detailed OTD price. Back taxes out, T&L are in the $200 range (at least in Texas, YMMV) and if it is still $24,700 take it fast!"

Definitely agree with rickindallas about getting a detailed OTD price and checking what the $24,700 covers. We have found this forum to be very helpful.
I posted my purchase details last week after buying an EX cloth for $27154.55 OTD from Riverside Honda. Their price was $24,844 for the EX-all the other stuff was fees and high CA taxes! But they did email me the out the door price so we didn't have any unpleasant surprises when we went to buy and it was a good experience.
It seems that prices are dropping slightly as another poster, Fantic, had bought up in Palo Alto for $27,278 which is a great OTD price, during Memorial Day. I think our sales tax rate was a bit lower than Fantics, so we were able to have a slightly lower OTD and we were ready to buy and happy to get that price! Maybe the deals will be even better for end of June or July 4 sales.
You got a great price and your posting helps others (such as my friend) also save a little bit. Thanks again.
Just noticed that I didn't answer all your questions: The color was Ocean Mist Metallic (our #1 choice).
Thanks in advance.
Since we were selecting between consumer report #1 and #2, we felt good about our purchase. After having two dealerships (Toyota Champion Gulfway and McDavid Honda)recanting their offers when we show up to purchase, it was refreshing to show up at a dealership in which a professional with papers already prep and waiting on you! We signed the deal and drove the van home STRESS - FREE!
Thanks to everyone in the forum for sharing their experiences (good and bad) and to those who have emailed us with advices and warnings in the past months!
Thank goodess we won't have to do this again for a while!
I am shopping for the same thing and have been shooting for a similar price. The best offer I have gotten is $29,900 + fees. How did you get this price? Where is your dealer located? Did you have a trade? I am in Omaha and I am having a hard time getting them to move much. Thanks so much.
Marsha
Oops, I miss read. I thought you were in Nebraska.

I am in the market for an odyssey EX-L (no navigation / no DVD)and am hoping to buy something in the next 2-3 days thinking I will get the best deal.
Your OTD of $28,000 (including splash guards) seems to be an unbelievable deal. Happy that you were able to get it.
- Consumer reports I looked at indicate that the dealer cost for this vehicle is likely to be $26,915. If that is accurate, with TTL and other fees, they must have lost money on this vehicle.
- Where are you located? (tax-free state - by any chance??)
Would it be possible for you to give a break-up of your pricing like:
- Base Price
- Tax
- Title and License
- Splash Guard (which is not a standard feature)
- Other Fees (including doc fee, etc..)
This will really help me compare apples to apples....
The best I have received so far is:
Base Price - 27,850
With tax anfd fee - OTD is close to $30,000
Any specific negotiating tips...
Thanks
How much did you pay for your EX-L with RES?
Thanks
I want to buy today, but I need to make sure it is a good deal
I have been shopping for an EXL-RES. I got the Consumer Reports Price Service for the Odyssey. For an EX it lists $24,830 as the "place to start negotiating" . To get this figure they subtracted dealer incentives and holdback from the invoice price. I hope this helps.
Marsha
Marsha,
Thanks. Confusion cleared up.
Thanks.
Should I be able to get under invoice price? Today by phone our local dealer quoted me invoice price (I think) and 2.9% or 4.9% interest and implied this was such a great deal.
Thanks for any tips!
Vette00,
Wow. Can you break down your numbers more, i.e. what was your price before fees & taxes (i.e. sale price including destination)? What is your location? Who was your dealer (you can post dealer name, just not salesperson name)?
Thanks.
gebbie was shopping for an EX and that was the price for an EX. I will see if I can change the post.
The "bottom line price" for the EXL-RES is $28,305, according to Consumer Reports. I sent an email to several dealerships offering $28,250, but they don't seem to want to go below invoice so far.
Marsha
Thanks so much for your reply. I was a bit confused, and that straightens that up.
I'm looking for an EX-L (no res). Do your bottom lines include destination?
Thanks again.
Yes, they do include destination. The breakdown for an EXL is as follows:
Invoice $28,003
+ Destination 595
= Total dealer invoice 28,598
Total dealer invoice 28,598
- Dealer incentive thru 7/5 of 750
- Dealer Holdback 933
= Bottom line price 26,915
Thanks again for the info!
One thing on your search, the invoices on the EXL I've been seeing list the price at $28,158.50 ($155 more than what you listed). I think there was a price increase in January that might not be reflected in that CR report. So, going $50 below what CR reports as bottom line may actually be $200 below a current bottom line, which may be too hard to swallow. You may have better luck a little higher (say $250 more). Good luck!
That is a good point. I have also heard--from the message boards for other models--that the holdback went from 3% to 2%. I wonder if they are making up for it in a different way.
I just talked some numbers with a salesperson, and the invoice number I had was correct (and higher than the CR). Also, the holdback is still 3%, but 3% on the invoice and not the MSRP. There's a big gap on MSRP to invoice on these, so I'd add that in also (probably another $120 or so).
What kind of offers are you getting for an EXL?
Anyone else shopping in Connecticut? What's your experience?
I am also in the Dallas/Plano area looking for an odyssey. Which dealership worked best for you?
I just picked up a great deal at David McDavid in Frisco. msg# 15370 (use the goto message box at top) and Billcme picked up a good deal at David McDavid in Irving msg# 15355 They seem to have the largest inventory so the most motivation.
Good luck
1) Anyone got any suggestions for a better price ?
2) Also, what should be the price for a extended warranty ? Is that negotiable at all ?
3) For additional accessories..is that a fixed price OR does that vary by dealer ?
- Sam
I am not an expert but from the message boards I have come under the impression that the extended warranty price maybe negotiable and one message mentioned they got one over the internet (not sure where) at a good discount over the dealer.
As for the accessories, I have heard this varies a lot but that the Honda MSRP prices are listed on the website. I would assume they would be negotiable just as the car price is. Anyway, I would not pay more than what is listed on the Honda website.
Edmunds shows values for option packages along with a TMV price for each package. The TMV price for the packages seemed to be about 75% of the MSRP.
Good luck!
Once again thanks for the forum. Email me if you want additional details.
Also did anybody buy honda care warranty from internet, in case can you share your experience ?
thanks a lot.
I am also considering them but kind of hesitant and want to hear what others have gone through?
Best Regards,
Thanks.
Thanks,
Donna
- After some haggling, I got a quote of $400 for the above protection pkg from one of the dealerships I'm negotiating with. Is that a good price?
