Do a mass emailing seeking quotes, pit dealer against dealer, and don't set foot in a store until you've made your best deal.
Thanks. I found where DonkeyPunch re-posted his method at #17261, and offers more advice at #17334.
Hey anybody, are there any cash incentives on the '08 Odys? Is the $2500 dealer cash back only for '07s? Does the $2500 dealer cash back expire at the end of November? Does the deal have to be completely done before the cash back expires in order to get it, or is it enough to be in the process of negotiating and you still get it even if the cash back offer expires before the deal is completed?
GKC
Dealer had 4 silver 07's (T-RN) in stock, agreed upon price and interest rate 32.6K & 4.9%............pretty good deal...............
Only to get................yep, you guessed it................low ball trade-in..............they didn't know I had a trade in till just before I got there.............I'm not even sure about Carmax at this point.
One other thing................has anyone mentioned that the interior of the ODY is kind of plasticy..................didn't get a great feeling about it............
any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciate!!!!!
What do you mean "low-balled?" If you're relying on KBB or edmunds for numbers, be cautioned that they don't always bear much relation to reality, especially right now on SUVs. Best thing to do is get numbers from several stores. If everybody's the same, that's what it's worth on trade - period.
As you probably know, Ohio offers a tax credit on trades.
And, yes, the interior is most definitely "plasticy." On the lower trim levels that would be ok but on the Touring, well, it just seems cheap.
can you itemize this price? Thanks!
Another question for all is why I can not found 2007 odyssey in Honda website by Donkeypunch method. Anybody can show me?
what is the best price i could expect to buy the price for? even a range would be helpful
so
You're exactly right, never dawned on me how slow the big gas guzzling SUV market is with gas prices headed even higher.
I'm probably going to go to Carmax, just to see how they appraise vehicles, if nothing else, it'll be good experience. Getting another number put on my trade-in at a different dealership should confirm the numbers on way or another.
Good advice.............THANKS!
Back to the "plasticy" thing, is the tan interior any better? The gray leather on the Touring and plastic, did give off that high quality feel, IMHO.
Of course, I don't think the Ody interior is "plasticky" anyway---but I wonder if that is because I am comparing it to other minivans. If you think the Ody is bad, check out the new Dodge van, the Hyundai and even the Sienna for comparison. I think you'll find that the Honda is actually the least "plasticky" of all these--even the Toyota which has a really dated audio head unit and seems to use a lower grade plastic than the Honda on the dash material.
It all depends on what you're used to seeing.
CarMax is easily your best bet...they gave me $1500 more than a dealer would for my trade last week. They have the ability to ship cars to where there is actually a market for them which is a big advantage.
My question is this: at what point do the dealers start negotiating prices on the 2008 models? The best quote I've seen is $500 off sticker price - all of the dealers I've talked to are pushing the 2007 models big time.
Of course the $2500 cash incentive will not apply to 2008 Odys, but once the 2007 inventory is pretty much gone will that be the only price difference? If so then I am willing to wait and pick up the the 2008 EXL when the dealers will actually deal on these.
IIRC, the other thing here is that the MDX interior has a high grade feel to it and so the contrast for you has to be fairly striking.
The other thing you might do is post the details of you MDX over on the Real World Trade-in Values thread and see what the experts there say. I know that in the past month here in Ohio there were several offered privately for what seemed like somewhat low numbers (but still way out of the price range that I was shopping).
Thanks for the advice on the MDX............I'll keep looking around and try to get a better handle on exactly the market value, $13,500 just seemed really low for a clean, one owner AWD SUV..........even at trade in value. I'll try the real world thread and see what they think.
THANKS AGAIN!
For one thing, Honda raised the price of the 2008 over $1000. Figure your best case scenario to be paying invoice for a 2008. I got my 2007 this week for $1000 under invoice and the incentive. So even without the $2500 cash incentive, there is $2000 right there.
I'm not trying to argue one way or other, because it truly depends on your financial situation. For us, the Ody was pretty much unattainable for our budget, but now we were able to get into this $30k+ van for $25. We couldn't afford an 08.
One other option would be to explore whether there's anything you can do aftermarket that would bring the 07 closer to 08. We've been looking at a few things like MP3 and Bluetooth integration. I understand the reasons why it may not be as good as factory, but for some people it could be an acceptable compromise.
08 EX $26636.00
(This price includes the Destination & Handling Fee. Tax, title, license, document fee, and accessories are additional.)
07 EX *$23651.00
Don't know if the above price for 07 Ex is included the rebate or not. Should I go for it?
Did you notice the rims are a graphite gray and not an polished alloy finish?
Not sure what to think about those rims yet.
Just wanted to update. Got the check on the 21st, just before thanksgiving. Breathed a sigh of relief when I got the check. Just wanted to let every one know.
Thanks for your replies and posts. They kept me going through the dark period.
Thanks once more.
We had long debates between the Honda Odyssey, Pilot and Toyota Sienna and finally settled on the Odyssey because of price/value/convenience factors.
So theoretically I should be able to get the 2008 for about $2900 more than the current deals on the 2007 model, or right around invoice cost plus destination charge, as a couple of buyers on the board are now suggesting. Looks like I'll have to work a bit harder to get it though.
BTW, my dealer also requires $200 for getting a car from other places (dealer trade), is it normal? I am in the NC.
Also, you can do better than invoice on the 2007. I bought mine for $1000 under. For a 2008, the best you'll do is invoice, which, as you stated, is more to begin with.
We settled on the color my wife wanted (Ocean Mist) with a local dealership (Kirkland). The base price was $26,453.00 which included destination and accessories already on the van, wheel locks, door edge and fender well 'guard'. The OTD was plus 9.2% tax, and ~$250 for license+title+doc fee.
note: As we have kids, we were looking for non-ivory interior, so when I was asking about inventories, I asked them to exclude ivory interior
Although I don't think I could classify any of the Seattle area dealers as completely upfront, the Seattle dealership was amongst the best and still had a couple Slate Greens left. Klein was there as well and also had some EXL's left (silver+black). I believe both Seattle and Klein also had about the best prices for Seattle-area accessories (the ones you perhaps wouldn't want to install yourself, see estore.honda.com ). Burian Honda may have been slightly better.
I don't know if it's true but two Eastside dealers (Bellevue & Kirkland) told me they don't accept Capitol One financing due to the turn-around time it takes for Capitol One to actually get the $$ to the dealership (note: Bellevue and Kirkland have the same owner). I ended up taking 5.74% from Honda Financing, which was competitive (but did not beat) the Capitol One 5.65% I had (over 48 months, the difference was ~$60). I will likely pay it out much sooner, so I wasn't overly concerned about this, but wanted to mention it for others.
My worst experience was with Bellevue and Sims Honda; ironically both Honda 'award' winners
Bellevue was probably my own fault, as they had the color, and said they would match, but would not give the OTD quote (asked me to bring in the ones I had). Bellevue is the biggest Volume dealer in the area. Sims had an offer on the table, then retracted it... and that's putting it nicely. Thankfully that was all via email, and I never stepped foot in the dealership.
My wife is happy, so thanks for the advice DonkeyPunch
Thanks
I got a quote from a dealer here in NC for a red odyssey Ex for OTD 25300. Is it an ok price or am i being ripped off ?. Since it is 07 , should i take the deal or can i ask for a lower price. But i see some people in the forum quoting 23.3. Iam i missing anything.
Thanks for the reply.
I surveyed 15 dealers today and have heard from 5.
Is that a starting point or ending one, given that it's an 08?
Thanks
2007 Odyssey EXL - $25,713.00
Sales tax - $2125.86
DMV - $239.75 (includes CA tire fee of $8.75)
Documentation - $55.00
Back-up sensors - $700.00
Fog Lights - $420.00
Cross Bars -$215.00
All Season mats - $190.00 (first and second row)
Splash guards - $120.00
Auto Day/Night mirror w/ compass - $310.00
Step one is to negotiate with them on the TOTAL price of the car, irrespective of the options. Make them give you a number that includes all that, and negotiate from there.
My Ody had $499 worth of dealer add ons. I paid exactly zero for them.
Any advice is helpful.
Thanks
You're only kidding yourself.
I too am ambivalent about the rims. However, if you want a Touring and all of its features, then the only way to get different rims would be to get PAX, and to me that would be unacceptable.
Is TMV alread reduce by incentive/rebate?
The total TMV for LX is $22,692. The most reasonable explanation is that TMV is the OTD price, in this case.
thanks.
