I am in the Maryland and shopping for a 2007 Black EXL without NAV or DVD, etc.

    I have been offered $27, 500 OTD

Can I do better than that on price?

Also, anyone hear any bad things about the engine feature that runs on three cyl at highway speed?

    Thanks
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Some claim you can feel VCM kick in (although I never have). Other than that, there's no downside to VCM which yields 28 mpg at a steady 65 mph in my '05 Touring.

OTD? A wholly meaningless number for comparison due to differences in tax rates.

The price of such of a vehicle (including any dealer/doc fees) should be less than $26,000.

"The price of such of a vehicle (including any dealer/doc fees) should be less than $26,000."

Again, this depends highly on the region you are in. I contacted 30+ dealerships within a 200 mile radius of here (Central TX) and the lowest quotes I could get for a 2007 EXL were in the $26250 range (including dealer fees - basically invoice - the $2500 incentive), with most closer to $27k. When I pressed for lower prices, I was repeatedly told that this was the bottom-barrel price, and if somebody was offering a lower price I should jump on it. Most dealers only had 1 or 2 in stock, so they knew they would be gone soon enough anyways.

When I asked about the combined $2500 + Low Rate offer, they all said that they hadn't heard about it, but that they didn't need it because they were flying off the lot with the $2500 incentive alone.

The only concession I did get at $26250 was free delivery to my house. The two dealers who were offering this price were both approx 80 miles away (in different directions), and both offered to bring it here for no charge. They are supposed to deliver it this afternoon.

    2007 EXL Silver
    Price: $26,253
    Tax: $1699.25
    Title/Fees: $174.05

Total Drive Out (or delivery price, in my case): $28126.30

I had to put a $200 deposit on my credit card for them to deliver. They faxed all of the docs, so they will drive up to the house, I'll sign a few papers, hand them some checks, and they will drive away.

Financed ~$20k at Penfed at 5.29% for 60 months (anybody can join with a $25 one-time membership fee to the National Military Family association, or for free if you have somebody in the military in your family).

I got same car for $28500 with fog light and splash guards. i have to pay only MV fee and tax. Can pls tell me the dealership name
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Yes, price is ALWAYS dependent on local market conditions. Still you're within 1% of $26,000. I've had a couple of new cars delivered to my house and the convenience is, as they say, "priceless."

Today I bought 2007 EX-L with DVD for $26750+tax+ttl+doc. I paid $300 for dealer installed security alarm. OTD is $29564. How did I do?

I'm getting a quote of $26500 incl. destination on 2008 EX Only in the MD area.
Is this a good quote? Does anyone have any quotes for 2008 Models yet? EX or EXL

Also Does Invoice Price include destination? or it's on top of Invoice Price?

Wow! This definitely looks to be a great quote for 2008 EXL + DVD based on the quotes I have been receiving on 2008 EX only of 26,500 that seems to be a steal.

Can you share the dealership/contact? I too am looking in MD.

can I please get the car dealer name also?
  • carlosnmiacarlosnmia Member Posts: 4
Actually, we just called them to confirm the deal and they claimed the e-mail was an error it was supposed to be for an 07 EXL RES. They are refusing to honor the quote although they sent it to us in writing in the e-mail. So I'm sure you don't want the name and #.

We've called them and they said they would call us back and never did. So we are complaining to BBB. Does anyone know what are rights are in regards to this. I mean they e-mailed us this quote and now won't honor it.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
They made a mistake - it happens. It is self-evident from the quoted MSRP of $32,695 which is the figure for an '07 EX-L RES. The corresponding number for an '08 is $33,810.

You don't have a leg to stand on here.
  • ilean62ilean62 Member Posts: 1
I have been going back and forth (via email) with a Honda salesman on a 2008 Odyssey EX-L RES. He initially quoted me sticker price ($34,445), then came down to $32,500, saying he was giving me the $2000 dealer cash discount.

From what I understand, paying invoice or less is a "good deal", even on a lease. What is the invoice price of this vehicle (I am in Louisiana if that affects it)? And it is unreasonable to ask that the $2,000 "dealer cash" be deducted from invoice?

Also, is it better cost-wise to skip the "RES" and just get my own dvd player?

Thanks for any helpful hints here....I definitely do not like the car negotiating process, so I want to get as much info ahead of time as possible!
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
There aren't any incentives ("dealer cash") on the '08s - he's just saying they'll discount it two grand from MSRP, period.

Cost-wise, yes, an aftermarket DVD will be cheaper. There are, however, significant factors to consider beside price such as integration and installation issues.

It looks to me that Oddsey EX is not worth the extra $3K from LX brand. EX-L is quite nice, but price tag is huge. May not be worth to get it?

can anybody do a good price/value comparison between LX, EX and EX-L?
  • nanwar786nanwar786 Member Posts: 18
can somebody, who has test driven an odyssey with "Rearview Mirror W/rearview Camera Display", comment on its usefulness?

Also has anybody seen "Back-Up Sensors" accessory in action?

    Hi Everyone,

I have been looking everywhere to find out what the dealer incentives and holdbacks are for the 2008 Honda Odyssey. Consumer Reports has nothing on the model and Edmunds has nothing except invoice price.

I'm trying to see what price I should be negotiating up from. I'm hoping that with the holiday season and no one buying and the housing slump to get a good price. Is it possible to buy a 2008 under invoice right now?

    Thank you,
    Emily

Got a quote for $25,500 including destination charge (595). Has the usual dealer add-ons: cross bars, wheel locks, mud guards, edge guards, and cargo tray.
May have dealer take those items off to get a better price.

But I haven't bought it yet because of those droning/humming issues i've heard about and those power steering issues and road noise.

    Any thoughts?

    In Southern California

    thanks

I test drove a 2008 EXL with the backup camera display in the mirror. Even though it's a pretty small display - maybe 2" x 2" - you can see a surprising amount of detail. Plus it's right there in the rear view mirror, so your eyes don't have to move up and down quite as much, compared to the EXL NAVI, which has the rear camera display in the NAVI screen.

A lot of people will prefer the larger display, but after looking at both options, I think it's a toss up, and of course you will save money with the plain EXL.
  • gjones0316gjones0316 Member Posts: 6
I've been shopping quotes on a 2008 EXL RES NAVI, and the best one so far is $32,998 (including destination). This is in Texas.

    Invoice price doesn't include destination.

Thanks to all for the advice on purchasing a new Honda Odyssey.

I purchased a 2008 Touring edition (without pax) at approximately $200 over invoice, but with no destination charge, at Holmes Honda in Des Moines, Iowa (515.253.3167). The sales person I dealt with was Clay Olson and the sales manager is Matt Sokolowski (515.253.3169). I also got the 4.9% financing special (2.9 for 36 mos. or less). They threw in extras such as rubber mats, cross bars, at the dealer cost. I've bought cars for years and the Holmes experience was probably the most professional.

I took a slightly different approach than the so-called Donkey Punch method. Because I was looking for a particular color (silver w/blk interior), I searched dealer websites within a 250 mile radius and then called (rather than emailed) particular dealers and asked for a price quote, as well as a ball-park quote on my trade-in. Holmes Honda (and Clay Olson) were head and shoulders above the others, and the most responsive and professional. Some of the dealers delayed in calling back and others kept you on hold for far too long. Hueys in St. Louis was also very professional. But Holmes had the model I wanted, was prompt, curteous, gave me a decent price for the trade-in. Right off the bat they quoted the pricing. Their strategy is that if a caller has done the Internet homework and is driving from out of town, the best approach is to give the buyer a no B.S. invoice pricing to encourage the buyer to drive in and purchase. Apparently, buyers drive in from the Kansas City metro area (about 2 hours away) and as far away as Chicago. For me, it was about a 4 hour drive (in a mini snow-storm no doubt), but it was well-worth the drive.
Once there, they had their act together and the van was on hold. The financing went relatively smoothly. (Although like many, I always hold my breath and say a slight prayer when waiting for the credit to get approvedl.) Regarding the trade-in, I recommend that buyers come prepared by printing out the value of your trade-in from sites such as edmunds, cars.com, kelly blue book.com. Trade-in values are all over the map. Expect to get the low-end of the dealer trade-in value.
Finally, I opted for the '08 model, even though the specials on the '07s are excellent. The '08 Touring now seats 8..and that is a plus. I take several road trips with the kids, and I figure that life is short so go ahead and get that upgraded sound and extra bells and whistles of the Touring. (In the past when I purchased less than the top of the line, I always later had regrets when a top of the line model drives by.) The Touring model should hold its value..and Honda's tend to look sharp even after years on the road.
So I am signing off after checking this site regularly for the past 4 months. You definately come out ahead when you are armed with information. Good luck.

We have had our 08' EX-L for around a month now and really like the camera display in the rear view mirror. It is a little small, but it keeps your eyes in view of the actual mirror so that you can see both perspectives. At first I thought it was a gimmick feature, and now find that I rely on it.

    Selling price is 27,600.00

    The lazy susan is 200.00
and the floor mats (all weather) are 220.00.

Your registration, title, and documentation fee come to 379.00 and 5% sales tax is 1401.00 for the vehicle and accessories.

Your total out the door price is $29,800.

    How does this look?

The dealership I want to buy from has 29 2007 Odysseys on their lot. Hubby and I agreed on an LX, but they have 19 EXL w/ RES's left and only 3 LX's. They hardly have any 2008's because they don't have room for them. Do you think I can get a killer deal on a 2007 EXL w/ RES since they have so many of them? What would you consider an awesome deal on that vehicle? I'm a sucker for a good bargain :shades:

If I buy the day after Christmas, would I be better off going into the dealership or negotiating through email/phone?

    Thanks so much!

    This forum is very helpful.
    Any suggestions on the following?

I am debating between 2007 oddy EX-L and 2008 EX-L. Does price/value ratio justify several thousands extra for 2008?

Are there any major differences between the 2007 and 2008 which make 2008 a better deal?
  • beebowbeebow Member Posts: 12
We faced the same issue and ended up choosing the 08' with no regrets so far. We like the looks of the 08' better, the rear view mirror camera, power passenger seat, mp3 port, passive head restraints, etc. The VCM going from 3 to 4 to 6 cylinders was another deciding factor. According to many of the writeups on the 08' some of the interior materials have been upgraded. The price difference is somewhat negated by the fact that part of the 07' pricing reduction is to cover the depreciation on a theoretically one year old vehicle. There are some that will argue this fact, but when you go to resale or trade in your van it will be a hard sell to convince individuals that it is worth as much as a newer model year. It comes down to which vehicle you like better.
  • sundevilsundevil Member Posts: 28
Others have reported 2007 EXL-RES for around 26500 with the destination charge, so you are off by at least 1k. Can't say about the lazy susan but the all weather mats are much cheaper for some online honda dealers. Bernardi or College Hill Honda.
  • sundevilsundevil Member Posts: 28
I think you should be able to do better. Your target should be 26500 or lower with destination especially with that 298 doc fee.
  • odysseyshopperodysseyshopper Member Posts: 1
I think you may be talking about DCH in Paramus. I am getting quotes of 26476 + dest (635) + doc(199) +DMV + taxes from them with the EXL w/RES. Noone is beating this over the phone. May go to dealership Saturday. Will advise you of the final countdown. We really liked the 8th seat in the EX , so we had to at least get the EX.
Will update when we actually buy.

Your quote of 25,500 for an 07 EX-L in California is excellent. The dealer add ons you listed are more than the usual. They are probably worth close to $500. If the add ons are included in the price then you are close to the best deals posted on this site.
You should be able to get the promotional 2.9%financing from Honda.
  • myvannymyvanny Member Posts: 6
I got the quote from Staten Island Honda. He also offered to split the destination charge if I moved fast.. :)
  • myvannymyvanny Member Posts: 6
    Hi All
It seems that Bayridge Honda is offering 3000 K off from invoice on 07 oddyssey. However the 08 EXL that I now really want is 1k over the invoice price and include the destination charge.

I liked the staff at the dealership they were nice and not pushy. However they did not have the Ocean mist EXL 08 that my wife wants so I'll contnue to look and maybe go to NJ next..
  • x2hlmx2hlm Member Posts: 7
Nope, I'm in Oregon :) Good luck on Saturday!
  • cclcalcclcal Member Posts: 20
    It's included in price.

I'm just worried about setting myself up for disappointment with all the issues involving brakes, power steering pump, wind/road noise, breaking of the air compressor due to poorly designed grille...my friends with 06 odysseys have warned me already.

Maybe i should spend a little more and get the 08.

    2.9% is stackable with discount?

What's the best price (OTD) should I negotiate for 2007 EX-L? I offered them $26,500 (OTD), but they didn't take it.
  • gsnoddygsnoddy Member Posts: 14
It really depends where you are; In Massachusetts, I was able to get a new 2007 EX-L for $25,421, which included destination. BUT, this was in late October, when the 2K was on the table.

Total OTD for me was $27,000 before trade-in credit was applied.
  • garyinfantegaryinfante Member Posts: 6
Paid $27,400 OTD last night in Maryland (5% sales tax).

    Where are you located?

    Hi All,

After going through mailing a bunch of dealers we were able to get our new 2008 EX-L for $29527 and OTD price of about 32300.

I also got sold on Honda Care package and I hadn't checked prices before I went to dealership but I advise everyone not to buy from dealership or bargain it down to what you get on internet.

Can anyone confirm that Honda is currently offering a $2,000 rebate to dealers on Odyssey sales? When I called Honda they, not surprisingly, would not confirm or deny. I want to know what the dealer's price is when I purchase.
  • mercer08mercer08 Member Posts: 24
Congrats! That sounds like a good price for the 08. Did you add any accessories to the deal? Any trade-in involved?
  • volvomanvolvoman Member Posts: 2
Has anyone purchased a 2008 EXL, RES/NAV in the eastern MA, southern NH area recently? If so, how much did you pay OTD not including tax. How much should I be expecting to pay for this vehicle right now. I want to purchase before the end of the year. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
