This post has to be satire!

"They have made/earned enough profits all these years (whatever may be the reason like good brand name etc) .. why can't they help the customers in this hard econimic situations .. don't they think it is their turn now?"

Who are you to say they've earned enough profits? As a Honda shareholder, I don't think they have earned enough profits!

"I am not against honda but, they should have minimum social responsibility to help the customers."

LOL, that explains everything! Just becuase some people are feeling a pain in this down-turn you think Honda (or any business I presume) should just lower their profit margin? I heard your neighbor has had a hard time paying his bills, don't you think the right thing to do is help pay some of his bills??? :confuse:

Maybe the governement should step in to force Honda to change the way they do business to give everyone a chance to buy a new car. After all, it will help their customers in this economic downturn.

I appreciate your last statement on govt coming into the rescue.

Do you know how much actually Honda makes on a Van when compared to a sedan? If so, you might not asked me that qn about profits.

Every business entiry in US now offering some kind of offer to sell their product (to take it to customer)..

for your qn on helping fellow neighbours, I have done that before and I am ready to help if such thing comes on the way in whatever way I can.. .not just like Honda forcing the customer to buy their car on whatever cost they stick.:) LOL..

Just wanted to post about prices in the Seattle area on new EXLs. We got the pricing runaround from one dealer when we visited, then decided to do the Edmunds email thing, and heard from several dealers in the area (Tacoma up to Bellingham) within a couple of hours. Lowest price (via email) for a new 2009 EXL was $28,614; lowest price for a new 2008 EXL was $26,500.

Visited Honda of Seattle, and they lowered the price on a new 2008 to $26,250, so we grabbed it. The price included destination, and the only additional charge (other than TTL) was a $50 document fee. They were professional, no pressure, and no messing around with the price we were quoted via email. A much better experience than earlier in the day when another dealer wouldn't give us a price below $31,600...and tried to tell us the MSRP for an EXL (no RES or NAV) was $36,945. Ha!

Anybody can tell me if there will be a better deal from American Honda in March?
  • HOdysyhunterHOdysyhunter Member Posts: 38
    Hi,
I am also from Seattle area. Can you let me know if that dealer has EXL+DVD(2008) and did u ask about price of that? If you know about 2009 model with exl+dvd, that would be great.

    thanks,

Hi. I am speaking with Honda Carland about a 2009 Odyssey EXL without RES and they are denying that they sold a 2008 Odyssey EXL without RES for the price you mentioned. They asked me your name so that they can look it up, which I obviously did not know. I certainly understand if you feel uncomfortable providing your name and date of purchase, but wanted to see if you would be willing to do so. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Could you please tell me where you bought your extended Honda warranty? I would like to get the best deal on my new Honda Odyssey. Thanks!
  • travel4momtravel4mom Member Posts: 10
Does anyone know what the rebates/incentives will be after, I believe, March 2, 2009? I want to buy my Odyssey at the lowest price like everyone else!

    Thanks.
  • tonyl1tonyl1 Member Posts: 53
I don't think anyone from honda would post here, although that would be nice.
My thouht is that March will be better or equl to Feb and April will be better or equal to March. I don't see Honda reducing the incentives and having parking lots full of '09's at the end of the model year.

    Thats just a guess.

Absolutely legit and you can pay in installments without interest.

We weren't looking for an EXL with DVD, so we didn't get pricing on that. There are only a few 2008s left, from what I understood. The only ones we saw were plain EXLs, so I can't say if any are left that have DVDs.

As for the difference in pricing, it seemed like most dealerships were passing the $2250 manufacturer marketing incentive on to the customer for the 2008 Odysseys, trying to get them off their lots. I had at least three dealerships tell me they had 2008s left, and all of them gave us prices in the $26600 range for a new 08 EXL.

I would highly recommend Honda of Seattle if you work or live near downtown. The whole process was so relaxed with them, which we really appreciated.

I've been donkeypunching this afternoon, and have gotten 6 quotes in the St. Louis area for a 2009 EX-L, no nav and no dvd. They range from $28,664 to $27,995, plus tax, title and license (the quotes include processing fees, etc.).

Thoughts on whether there's much downward room from here?

We're in the market for an Odyssey EX-L ( No res or nav ). We're located in Georgia.

I have a quote of 27,900 +tax/title/fees (don't know the out the door total yet) for an 2009 at one place and a quote of 26,300 + tax/title/fees (i think 30,400 OTD) on an 2008 at another.

We're leaning towards the 09 at this difference. Any input? Which one would you go for?
  • jimprofitjimprofit Member Posts: 9
I believe the only difference between a 2008 and 2009 mode at the EX-L trim level (with no RES/NAVI) is the following, so be sure to factor them into your decision. If I missed anything someone please correct me.

    - 2009 model Variable Cylinder Mgmt can drop down to 3 or 4 cylinders, 2008 can only drop to 4. Might improve mileage somewhat.
    - A power rear liftgate is standard on the 2009 (had to get touring trim in 2008 to get this)

We already have our eyes on a couple new 2008 EX-L models floating around our market and are waiting for the incentive resets on 3/3. Can't see how they would drop the incentives for 2008 models; we're hoping they will go up. A lot.

"Can't see how they would drop the incentives for 2008 models; we're hoping they will go up. A lot."

    Sorry, it will remain unchanged.
  • davidingilbertdavidingilbert Member Posts: 53
    Javed - I would do the 09.
I know Jimprofit talked about a few options available on the 09 that you couldn't get on the 08.
Above what jimprofit had posted, you also get on the 09 EXL
Power sliding Doors - both sides
    &
Rear view camera that appears in your rear view mirror.

My wife & I were going back & forth between 08 Touring (only way to get those options at a much higher price) or an 09 (that is newer and had those options.)
We ultimately settled on the 09 EXL because the 08 Touring, though had those options, it also had other options / gizmos we didn't want, need and couldn't justify paying the higher price. Plus, the 09 is newer...

    Dave,

Do you mean the Rearview Camera is standard on EXL basic model (no RES/no NAV)?

Just closed the deal on a Brand new 2009 Odyssey Touring Non PAX with 8 miles on the Odo.

    Total out of the door

$34806 (includes all taxes and fees)

includes wheel lokcs, mudguards and pinstripe.

    Tax is 3% VA
  • jimprofitjimprofit Member Posts: 9
I'm pretty sure that the "Power sliding Doors - both sides" & "Rear view camera that appears in your rear view mirror" are standard on the model year 2008 Honda EX-L. I distinctly remember seeing these features on an 2008 EX-L we test drove and Edmunds confirms it.

Perhaps you are thinking of a lower trim level on the 2008's like the EX (doesn't include rearview camera in mirror but does have dual power slide doors) or the 2008 LX (which has neither power sliding doors or rearview camera).

Once again I think the only difference between a 2008 Odyssey EX-L (no RES/NAV) and a 2009 EX-L (no RES/NAV) are the VCM optimizations and power rear liftgate on the 2009.

Has anyone seen/heard about March incentives for 2009 Odyssey? Will they remain unchanged ( :confuse: ), go up ( :) ), go away ( )?
  • jimprofitjimprofit Member Posts: 9
Good question. We've already had one poster state that the incentives for 2008 Honda Odysseys will not be changing which I think is really questionable. There are still quite a few 2008 Odysseys on the lots around here and the 2009s have been out for 5 months now. The delta between an equivalent 2008 and 2009 Honda Odyssey EX-L model is $2-3k (on a roughly $30k vehicle) which is not exactly causing the 2008s to jump off the lots.

We'll see on the 2009 incentives I guess.

"We've already had one poster state that the incentives for 2008 Honda Odysseys will not be changing which I think is really questionable."

    LOL, good to know!

"There are still quite a few 2008 Odysseys on the lots around here..."

There are just seven total Odysseys left in my five state area: Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa.

    0 LX's
    1 EX (ND)
    0 EXL
    0 EXL RES
2 EXL R&N (WI and ND)
3 Touring w/PAX (WI, ND and SD)
    1 Touring no/PAX (WI)

Five states, seven TOTAL vehicles. That hardly seem like "quite a few" but maybe your area is different? Why don't you share with me where you're from and I'll be happy to search. :)
  • jimprofitjimprofit Member Posts: 9
Sure thing, search on Autotrader for new 2008 Odysseys within 100 miles of zip 80241. :) How does it look?
  • mplshondadlrmplshondadlr Member Posts: 409
Rather then rely on second hand inaccurate information from Auto Trader, I went right to my internal vehicle locater via Honda employee website. Also, rather then searching within 100 miles of Denver - I searched all of Colorado. There are 19 total 2008 Odyssey's in the whole state:

    7 LX
    4 EX
    3 EXL
    3 EXL RES
    2 EXL R&N
    0 Touring w/PAX
    0 Touring no/PAX

This information is accurate as of last night when all RDR's have been repotrted to American Honda.

19 left is hardly a reason for Honda to increase the incentive. :D

First, my experience with looking for cars on autotrader was that the dealerships no longer had the cars in stock that were listed on autotrader. (I was looking at 08 Odysseys back in December).

Second, I doubt the 2008 incentives get any better. That being said, I fully expect 09 to get better. All indications are that our economy continues to lag plus you have the fact that the 2010 Odyssey is supposedly going to be a big change.
  • delthekingdeltheking Member Posts: 1,152
The Odyssey will be totally redesigned for 2010.So,folks who are buying now for the 09 models-- wouldn't it be better for them to wait till `2010 model arrives.B`cos when it arrives the resale values of 09 would go down relatively. And you would be buying pretty much a 05-09 generation odyssey.
    Just MHO , thanks.
  • pele10pele10 Member Posts: 6
That's similar with the quotes I've been getting as well for EX-L no nav and no DVD in the St. Louis area. So far, I've contacted 3 of the dealers in the area. I've gotten the following. For each they already factored the $670 destination charge in to the offer:

    Offer 1 $27627 + $159 doc fee + $358 dealer installed options (pin stripes, splash guards) = $28144

Offer 2 $27704 + $149 doc fee + $374 dealer installed options (splash guards, door guards, cargo tray) = $28227

    Offer 3 $27995 (includes dealer installed splash guards) + $189 doc fee = $28184

These are all the initial offers I got upfront when I contacted the dealers so I'm not sure if they'll go lower. Wondering if it's worth holding off to see what the March incentives will be.
  • javed13javed13 Member Posts: 6
    Thanks for the input.

I think we'll be going with the 09 because the deal just isnt good enough on the 08. The best price I have gotten on the EX-L (no res or nav) is $29,835.48 out the door.

    Thats a price of 27265 + 599 (dealer fee) + 21 (tax/title/lemon) + 1950.48 (tax)

Two dealers have told me now that Odyssey supply is dwindling and they expect their incentives to be reduced in March. I hope they're not right because we can't buy until next week.

One person mentioned that the car is being redesigned for 2010. Is this a major overhaul? We keep our cars for a while so I doubt it will have a big effect on us down the road when we plan on selling it.

    btw,
if this is the actual shape of the 2010 odyssey... count me out.

here is the info i could find on it:

The 2010 Odyssey you mentioned is actually the version sold in Japan and Asia.It is a shorter smaller model. The American redesigned one would be much bigger like the present one.
But as with Honda and Toyota-- there will be a lot of updates and new features and gadgets in a newly redesigned version.eg:: compare the previous and present generations of Odyssey and Sienna---especially Sienna----- lots of updates, refinement, tech features and refinement.
So,2010 probably would follow that trend.

I just purchased a 2009 Honda Odyssey EX-L from Bankston Honda in Lewisville. Total OTD price...including dealer add ons and 6.25% tax for $29,852..... The total transaction took about 2 days of back and forth on email to settle on the price....then about 1.5 hours once I arrived at the dealership. Pretty smooth transaction. And more important....my wife is happy! :-)

    Negotiatiing the price :

Your advantage - emailing as many as dealers by sitting at home
Their advantage - sitting at ONE dealer

When the price is final. Then I will email credit application form to make sure all the finance is all set. After this ask dealer to email your a draft of all final figures. After checked and all OK. Tell the dealer to get the same printed ready and prepare the car for delivery. I think you will leave the dealer with your new car in 45 mins
Upon your arrival, all you need is to double check all numbers and sign then go into the finance manager room, say "no" to all the bait offers, get the contract print out sign seal and deliver.

Negotiated today for a 2009 Odyssey EX with aftermarket DVD. I'm in VA wtih 3.1% tax. I offered $25.5K for the van, the lowest they came to before I left was $26,832. I am not sure if I was actually too low and that's why they could not do the deal. They send me an email offer of $23,557 before adding aftermarket DVD and TTL. I walked in already having test driven the vehicle elsewhere and knew exactly what I wanted down to the color.
I want to buy this van from somewhere, so I need to know what is a bottom line reasonable price to offer OTD since I'm ready to buy.

Thanks for this forum, I have been doing research for the whole month and I did exactly what bigdadi118 said now, finally i closed the deal today..it's my first car..really happy now..

2009 Odyssey LX for 22920 ODT.

    a. emailed as many as dealers by sitting at home
    b. When the price was finalized, took a confirmation email from dealer with final figure
    c. mean while applied auto loan with my credit union bank, received auto draft
    d. delivery delayed 2 hrs in the dealer shop, because of car color (Sterling Gray) availability

    Final price - 20,818
    Destination - 670
    sales Tax 6% - 1,289
    TT & Doc fee - 143
    -----------
    ODT 22,920

Thanks for the forum once again..

    Hi,

23557 +TTL is a very good price. Does 23557 include destination charge?
If you are based in Texas then let me know which dealership you went to, I'll talk to them.

    Thanks.
  • mom28mom28 Member Posts: 3
No, this is in Northern VA/Washington DC area.
I think the $23557 is very good but no it does not include destination of $670 and processing of $365 (neither of which they wanted to negotiate on).

I negotiated a deal in the Omaha, NE area for $30,790 plus $199 doc fee for a total of $30,989 including splash guards, all weather mats, and rear cargo liner, any color I choose within 100 miles of dealership. Tax is 5.5% state additional. Is this a good price? I think I am ready to purchase, tried of dealing with all of this.

    Thanks!
  • flyonwall1flyonwall1 Member Posts: 5
Looks like you got a better average quote than I did. I had one just under $28M, and the rest were right around $28.5M. I got 6 up-front email quotes.

I'm also wondering whether March incentives will be any better. I doubt there will be a major change, but who knows.

I've also looked at used, and just can't get excited about the relatively small savings. For me, $5-6M in savings isn't worth getting an '06 or '07 instead of an '09. I'd be more compelled if the spread was $10-12M, but that just doesn't seem to be the case.

After two weeks since I started to look a minivan,

I have purchased Honda Odyssey EX-L 09 with res.
My OTD price is $31,000 and sales tax 6% plus $50 (county tax).
  • 3kidscalif3kidscalif Member Posts: 1
Just picked up Odyssey EX for 24,700 at Honda of Pasadena, CA. Total out-the-door came to 27050.
This is 1000 less than I could negotiate 1 month ago via internet. Seems like they want to clear some inventory here in So Cal before the economy tanks even more...
  • 93139029313902 Member Posts: 4
Looks like a great price. Where did you get that deal from in Omaha? I am just about ready to start a deal for the exact same configuration as you.
