Did a survey tonight. Regular is running $3.59 to $3.61, premium tops out at $4.04, diesel is $4.16 to $4.18 and ethanol free premium is a whopping $4.59.
I'll be home in a few days, back to the land of cheap gas, and cheap just about everything else (although groceries here are no more expensive and in some cases cheaper than home). I won't feel bad pumping $4/gallon premium into my guzzler.
Diesel in central Germany today is around EUR 1.49-1.50 /liter.
Regular went up to $3.61 for a few days and then dropped to $3.59 at my usual spot. I drove down the road this morning though and my mother-in-law filled up the Subie for me for $3.40 a gallon. On the way back home after some lunch and shopping, the station had dropped to $3.38.
Cheapest diesel I noticed was $4.05 and the ethanol-free premium place is still asking $4.59 a gallon.
Yesterday's fill-up was for $3.30 (Marathon), a decrease from last but most stations, including my usual spot, increased their prices to $3.48, with some @ $3.60 for 87 octane.
earlier today in downtown Alamogordo, NM! I kid you not. I can't remember what ghastly station it was at. Alano or something like that. I'll get back ta y'all on that.
I kid you not, though, about the price. $2.99 a gallon in southern New Mexico. I'm about 85 miles north of El Paso, TX.
Looking back on my gas records. The cheapest gas we bought on our 2009 cross country trip, was in NM. Driving the Sequoia to Indiana our best mileage and our cheapest gas was from a Flying J station just outside Albuquerque. It was $2.19 per gallon which got us 19.8 MPG on the next fill-up in AZ, price $2.39. Two days later back home we were paying $2.99 per gallon. That is a high price to pay for what used to be the best weather in the USA. We drove 5687 miles total and averaged 16.3 MPG or $.13 per mile.
was $2.97 gallon. Forget the name of the place, but it was right on 10th St. I believe. Alamogordo won't be a very hard place to get used to driving in. The most stressful road appears to be Hwy 54 White Sands Boulevard. And that one is basically a piece of cake. There is occasional waiting to pull out here and there in town, nothing major. Gonna be a nice place to live and who knows, maybe retire, though that is a little ways off still. And the way we keep moving, I'm not making any predictions whatsoever.
was for $3.20, 87 octane. With wash the price was $3.00 ($2.999).
Most other stations were at $3.25 ~ $3.27, a few at $3.45 and a BP which had the following advertised
Regular: $3.59 Silver: $3.89 Ultimate: $3.99
Not sure the major difference between Regular and Silver to cause it to have such a high spread, but a low spread between Silver and Ultimate :confuse:
Not just gas for cars. I filled my propane tank. $2.79 per GGE. The lowest price I have paid in over 4 years. It looks like water will be our largest monthly utility for 2012. Most of that is the cost of electricity. A very mild Summer saved us from using the AC much.
regular was $3.069 and premium was $3.329/gal. Unfortunately, Costco doesn't do mid-grade, which is what my '12 Ram Hemi calls for. But, compared to what we've been paying, $3.329/gal seems dirt-cheap!
Oh, and fuel economy on this last tank came to about 14.08 mpg. At first glance, that sounds like nothing to brag about. But, for something that weighs close to 5,000 lb, has 345 cubes, and puts out around 385 hp, and in mostly local driving, I guess that's not *too* bad.
LOWES 55 on 10th St. in Alamogordo, NM, now has RUG for only $2.95/gallon. I suppose this lower than normal price is because of southern NM's close proximity to Texas oil refinery action.
I'm hoping it'll drop some more from the current $3.37 here (with my gas coupons, that'll be closer to $3.17 when I fill the Subie up for the drive south in a week.
Radio said the state average was around $3.40 something - just about the same as it was this time last year. Seems cheaper. :shades:
In Central CT, saw RUG for 3.419 today, about a dime lower than last year. My wife says she gets 50 cents or more off the per gallon price with her grocery store discount. Not sure what she's buying to get that.

I get a penny a gallon off for a $10 grocery tab, limit twenty cents off per fill (have to spend $200 in other words for .20 off a gallon). I don't burn much gas around town so I have a stack of coupons, although most are just for one or two cents off (limit of four coupons at one visit too).
They are supposed to expire but even though they scan them, they've only turned me down for stale coupons once. I had a handful in my pocket so no big deal.
Still holding at $3.37 here but we're heading to an alpaca ranch in a couple of days and I know of a cheap place over there.
I do know when she gets a good discount she and one of the kids take their cars over for a fill up. The timing never seems to work for me, so I've never gotten the cheap gas.

We dropped a few more pennies here, my latest fill-up yesterday evening (possibly last fill-up for this year), was for $3.06 for regular, other grades a dime higher ($3.16 for mid, $3.26 for premium). If you got a wash it was maybe $2.90 or so.
Looking over the records that's the cheapest price since January 7, 2011, and even then it was $3.08. The last time I paid under $3 was December 16th, 2010. :surprise:
No one was getting washes do to the weather-front rolling through today, a la Draco, Draino, whatever...
If I don't log back on, hope you (and everyone here) and yours have a safe and happy holiday!!
Thanks! Our weather turned to rain on top of about 3 inches of snow, so it'll be fun for the folks cruising tonight, assuming the temp drops back down below freezing.
No change in price here and I may not have enough left in the Subaru to get to the cheap gas place this weekend.
Gas prices rose from $2.85 in parts of the area to $3.35 in honor of those traveling for the Christmas travel season. I predicted the increase yesterday and had my cars filled up at Kroger using my monthly gas saving.
At least we don't have snow for the Northern Michigan and Canadians traveling southbound, yet.
We did have a trucker try to help soak up some of the heavy amount of rain by spreading his truckload of toilet paper on I-75. Didn't help soak up much.
Can't beat that (so far). Got some regular for $3.05 at a Pilot around the middle of Illinois. Saw a sign for some for $2.99 at a Flying J an hour later around Bloomington.
Diesel was $4.02 but the cash price was around $3.89.
MIRASTAR has RUG for only $2.93 a gallon in downtown Alamogordo, NM. We're not quite moved there yet. Red tape is making us wait but it will happen. We're hopefully going to get in the Lancer GTS and start our journey south on Friday night.
Had a brief scare - last filled up on 1/1 for $3.35. Getting down to 1/4th of a tank so will be needing some soon. The local station had jumped up to $3.44 as I drove past it early this afternoon running errands. Ouch.
Coming home 45 minutes later the sign had changed to $3.34. Someone had fat fingers messing with the digital fuel sign. :shades:
Filled at Costco yesterday. $3.53 and rising. Lowest price in over a year was in December 20th when it got down to $3.39. I did see a station with $3.71 diesel. Most over $4 now. We did have a sales tax increase state wide 8% which is added onto the gas price. Some cities are as high as 10% sales tax.

We're driving south for Christmas - prices should be zooming up right about now.

10,000th post in this topic!
Read a good tip:

That's what I was thinking too... :P
I was planning on going south myself, GA / AL area but most likely will stay around the homestead. BUT with prices dipping like they are...

It's $3.25 to $3.35 for regular with a few spots at $3.21. Downstate it was pushing $3.49 at some spots.
Still a big regular/diesel differential of between sixty and eighty cents at most places.
