It will take a whole lot more than that. The Retirement fund is under funded by $30 billion. And they expect the tax payers to kick in more for their over the top retirement plans. They expected 7.75% ROI and only made 1%. Going further into debt and no one with a brain would loan to CA.

Regular fell to $3.31 so I filled up the Subie. Save thirty cents waiting a few days and got another $2 off the tank with the grocery card.
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,023
87 octane was at $3.259 and 93 was at $3.559. Cheap enough to warrant topping off the Ram, even though it had about 3/4 of a tank. It's supposed to take mid-grade, but mid-grade is often not that much cheaper than hi-test. So I'll try to alternate fillups between 87 and 93, and never let it get below about a half tank.

We've been bouncing around a lot but trending up for the last couple of weeks. Right now at $3.59 in the freezing rain here in Happy Valley
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Ugh, I'm driving up the road today and freezing rain is a possibility around here too. 4 inches of snow fell overnight and now we're heading for a heat wave.

$3.69 for Chevron premium, been holding steady within a few cents of that for over a month. No complaints.

Weather is too warm but at least it didn't rain or sleet. Yet.

Crazy gas station jumped from that $3.31 to $3.49 and it was the same price up the road (or worse). Glad I tanked up when I did.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Not looking good. Popped up to $3.57 today and that was before the Pemex blast.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,674
Ours went from $3.19 to $3.59. The whole area was at $3.29 and went to $3.59. Strange how all the stations pick the same $3.59 price within a couple hours of each other. Well, 95% of them jump to that fixed price. Hmmm.

I was set to get gas for $.10 per gallon under a reward program at $3.19, but that flew the cuckoo's nest so I paid $.43 cents tonight. ($3.49).

Sorry for the delay folks, have been hammered at work and haven't had a chance to post, then looked up and it's February. :surprise:

Last 3 fill-ups have been $3.29, $3.35 and $3.37 for 87 octane. But like some of you petrol prices have been jumping like Superman leaping tall buildings in a single bound. Today's prices are at $3.70 to $3.90 near work. Understand my $3.37 fill-up was on Monday. Hopefully when I have to fill-up again it won't be near those prices.

What the heck is going on :confuse:
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
    Andre,

Know this is off-topic but what's your thoughts of the Ram so far, likes and dislikes? Reasons are:

I've been with Fiat Group for about a year now so...

I asked here instead of the GM forum due to haven't posted there in SO long plus I really am not a fan of it anymore - lot of bad attitudes, redundant posts and am non-GM now so...

Beats me - we popped again, up to $3.64 for regular.

RUG went up 20 cents in the last week. Mid 3.50's to mid 3.70's.

So when can I expect to see the new Jeep GC diesel???? Got to use less fossil fuel.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
Bummer man. I mean, there's no real reason for us being right at $4/gal for 87 octane & it's the middle of winter. But it did snow yesterday & today so...
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
    It's already available...just not here :P

Seriously, it is in the pipeline but there is the emissions to think of, like Tier4 as well as the market. Amazingly there are still people who consider diesels to be dirty, crude, loud, noisy...take your negative pick, or only in select German vehicles. They still bring up "GM" from back in the 80s when talking domestic diesels.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Well, it fell a couple of cents to $3.62 at my usual station.

Diesel was $4.19 at the convenience store a few hours ago.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
The Domestics better get their act together. VW is selling 20% diesels. Audi A3 was 38% diesel. The Germans are all adding diesel models every year. Diesel is selling in CA at about the same price as Premium. Which most of the vehicles I am looking at require in their gas versions. I thought Jeep already had the GC diesel approved by the EPA & CARB.

The new Grand Cherokee delivers a best-in-class 30 mpg highway courtesy of a new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine for North America and a new eight-speed transmission. The EcoDiesel V-6 boasts an unmatched driving range of more than 730 miles.

4 cent drop to $3.65. I'm sure all this price movement is due to "market factor"... cough cough
  • iluvmysephia1iluvmysephia1 Member Posts: 7,709
in Alamogordo, NM, is selling RUG for $2.99 a gallon. EXPRESS LANE is selling the same for $3.03 a gallon.

Paid $3.89 for Chevron premium today. Saw another station about a mile away at $4.05 for the same thing, no apparent reason other than those fancy new pumps with advertising screens in them.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
It is not uncommon here to see disparity of 50 cent or more across the street. Chevron is one of the high priced companies down here. Right now you can pay $3.89 at one station and up to $4.79 for Chevron Premium.

    >fancy new pumps with advertising screens in them.

Haven't seen those here in the backward Midwest at gas stations. ;)

I hope those aren't the flat screens with projection speakers that bombard you with sound when you're directly in front of them, are they? I hate it when the pump beeps to get my attention and gives me a personal message on the LCD screen that they have drinks or cigarettes on sale inside the store...

Average price here is about $3.40 down from $3.59 5 days ago.

All our Shell stations have those. They have been in so long now that most that get direct sun are useless. Look melted. Still hear all the BS while pumping gas.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,414
Those are exactly what these are. They have ads, weather reports, etc. Kind of annoying. I get annoyed at the ones that ask you about a car wash etc too. Does my car look dirty? :shades:

We need to start a campaign - let's hit the panic button on our fobs while we are pumping gas. Bring earplugs. :shades:

All the extra buttons some pumps want you to push for car washes and stuff irritate me too.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,414
Or just leave the car running (people do that) :shades:

I think I remember a bit on Leno where he appears on one of those screens.

All the extra buttons some pumps want you to push for car washes and stuff irritate me too.

I pushed the one for a car wash. Then it asks what level of car wash. Well the screen was so bad from the sun I could not tell so pushed the top one. It was for a $50 detail. Of course I went inside and canceled that one. That would be the day I detail a vehicle. Unless maybe I was selling it. Still have never had it done.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
You pretty much proved my point - you mentioned VW/Audi - German companies at the core. People's impressions of D3 are that they cannot make a very good / reliable diesel unless it is for trucks. With the reality being SUVs for the most part are looked at as "cars" they feel the passenger-car diesels are not up to par.

Plus you have to remember the passenger-car diesels of Audi/VW, MB and the rest have been here for a very long time and constantly improving; domestics not so much when they were available.

Not using this as an excuse b/c you are right, we should have had diesels in passenger-car line-ups for years

I have not seen any of the EcoDiesels on dealer lots or being delivered - I can try to check once back in the office. Unfortunately with EPA / CARB approvals it doesn't mean they get approved today and sold tomorrow. Also if something changes that has to do with drivetrain or is planned for other vehicle platforms it would need to be certified for those as well. Honestly the Chrysler side will most likely concentrate more on Dart and the new offerings coming through. Fiat side is Alfa Romeo, Maserati and the EU market.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
In IA (along I-80) it's running in the $3.60 range with diesel in the $3.94 range. When I left IL it was still in the $3.80 ~ $3.90 range.

    Gagrice,

The diesel is still on track for late 1st-qtr release so I'd say late-March, early-April delivery dates for the dealership at the earliest.

That yahoo-autos article left out quite a bit of info though.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206

We're on course for $4 by March it seems. Looking over my charts we're running 30 cents higher this year than last, despite having more gasoline stockpiles.

Last year we hit +$4.38 late March, highest price I paid all year.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
Our Costco in San Diego was at $4.26 my two fill-ups in March 2012. Same station same date in 2011 the price was $3.86. If it follows the same pattern I would expect $4.50 gas by the middle of March. Some are already selling RUG up to $4.79. Higher than the most expensive diesel. On average now diesel is only a dime more than RUG and less than Premium across the board.

Wow, I've blocked all those memories out. Have to drive to Chicago in April, better start saving my pennies now.

Actually driving today but I bet the stations up the road are going to be the same as here. Still holding at $3.74.

RUG is up to $3.63 this morning from $3.59 yesterday at the Sunoco on Longshore and Rising Sun in NE Philly! :(

Gas up the road was only a penny cheaper (so really, it's more since I didn't see a station that would take my grocery coupons). Decided to wait it out, even though I got home on empty, but the low fuel light hasn't come on yet.

Gas here did go down a couple of cents to $3.72.

    Diesel is running $4.22.

    VALERO STORE 1296

657 S WHITE SANDS BLVD ALAMOGORDO, NM 88310

    $3.09

The oilfields are only about 150 miles east of here in the Hobbs and Lovington, NM area. And El Paso and the rest of Texas is only 90 miles south of here. So perhaps we're given a shipping break causing a lower ghastly price. Whatever the reason, I'll happily take it!

    Afraid you're right.

    The $4.79 price, yikes!!

Our diesel is up there as well. Seems any little uptick reported about the economy, whether true or false, makes petrol prices jump.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
    Sorry about that.

Yes, starting saving now!! Hope you don't have to use any tolls (I avoid them like the plague). ;)
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
I hate toll roads. I used the 73 going into Orange CO, CA a few times when my dad was in the Hospital up there. It cost a buck and cut off 2 miles of the I5 to I405 heavy traffic. Coming back from visiting a few months ago we decided to take that route. The charge now is 5 bucks. And the traffic was just as heavy on it as the old way.

We put 5700 miles on the Sequoia going to Indiana in 2009. We avoided every toll road. Not that hard to do. We also skirted the big cities at least by 25-30 miles. Nice country roads are so much more relaxing and scenic than interstates and Freeways. We are planning another long road trip for this Spring. I think I have a good idea where to get the cheapest gas along the route we are taking.
  • explorerx4explorerx4 Member Posts: 20,723
does the price matter when stations are running out of gas?
We are supposed to get a blizzard tomorrow lasting into Saturday.
I was able to fill up with RUG @ 3.899.
A couple of hours later, my wife said the RUG pumps were shut off.

Oh, totally agree 100%!! I avoid the tolls like the plague; it's so easy & they really don't save time. Outside Chicago there is the I-355 extension that connects to I-80 from I-55. If you're already on I-355 you pay a huge toll to get on the extension and the further you go the more it costs to get off to where it's $4 to get onto I-80.

There's a lot of two-lanes by me and it's great driving. Been on many of the country roads in Indiana and the southeast, all great. Took a lot of great roads when I stayed in Belgium as well. Next time in CA will do the same.

Just had to fill my wife's LaCrosse. Drove 2 miles further where RUG still = $3.69. She has a nasty habit of running her car almost to empty whereas I keep my ride topped-off all the time!

A Citgo went up to $3.89. Didn't look around at other stations to see if the rest followed suit. The Citgo didn't really need to bother; all the regular nozzles were out of order. :)
