    if the extra $ aren;t a big consideration, go for the 6. the refinement of the added hp makes it worthwhile, imo. i've always owned 4's, and the first 6 i;ve bot is a pleasure...

    I have been looking for a cheaper place to buy OEM filters, oil, ATF, gaskets and such. Where are you guys buying your parts, also 5w20 oil is hard to find here, but 5w30 is readily available and i think it wouldn't hurt but have seen where it says 5w30 is for a short time replacement only any ideas.

    Heard about this forum from my SO so I decided to check it out, liked what I saw and joined.
    Read some of the discussions and want to add my two cents worth. I have a Cashmere 95 LX/V6 Accord with 36K on it, my first Honda, shopped for it for a year. Got a good, fair price and it was the best choice I ever made. In a couple of years I will be shopping for another, will probably be an EX/V6 this time around. I am solo glad I got the 6, it has all the pep I need for the freeway even with the air full blast. I tested the 4 bangers but didn't like the way the engine "strained" on acceleration.

    I bought my 2001 Accord Ex-V6 in April in Florida and I now have under 4000 miles on it. It is a beautiful car, but the steering is like a truck. Is this unusual? I also have a 87 Legend, which is a breeze when turning. Am I just spoiled by the Legend?

    ...is relatively high on this car. This is a matter of personal preference - I happen to like it the way it is, and BMW took a lot of gas recently for lightening the steering effort on the 3er [they have since gone back to the old system after hearing so much negative feedback]. I have no doubt it is heavier than the original Legend, which also took some criticism at the time for being too light...can't please everybody, an old rule that keeps being proved...

    Hi, I am a new member and I just purchased a 2001 Accord EX Coupe in black. I had a really hard time finding black, because I was told that it was a very popular color. I have waited a long time for this car and I really think that it was worth the wait. :)

    Hi. I bought a new silver 2001 EXv6 last week. No problems so far. Beefed up the audio with MTX Blue Thunder woofer in the trunk with 500 watt Kenmore amp attached. Makes all the dif in the sound department. Also added short extended chrome tail pipes to exhaust to show off the duals. Not gawdy, just nice touch. Also full black nose bra from Honda. Looks great on the silver and is a big help the way paint is now days.

    hey, just remember to not keep it on there all the time.. to wash it before you put it back on etc. it's ideal to take it off after rain or as soon as you can. don't want moisture trapped under there. =)

    Bought my accord 2000 SE last september. Ever since then, it's had problems as steering wheel vibration; two times door handle Chrome peeling off (cut my finger once); three times engine check light on with temperature gauge needle down to cold level and rpm jumping up and down; rattling noise under the hood when accelerating; Plus a 26-27 MPG (OK for a V4?). Maybe because I have visited the dealership so many times (5-6 times within one year), they become somewhat quite unfriendly. Is there someone whom I can talk to for this kind of car and services? It seems that a lot of owners like their honda's, maybe I am just unlucky. All I want now is to fix the car and drive it to work without new problems. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. - Richard

    I bought my third Honda (accord) in May of this year. In short, it is nothing but a failure. A failure in basic design, manufacturing, and service. I am told that the wind noise coming through front windows at top of the A-pillar is a design feature! The plastic covers over child safety hooks on the rear deck would not say in place. After 6 visit to two different dealerships the problem is not fix yet. In actuality there has been no attempt to install replacement parts.
    As far as service goes, Honda has taken a book out of GM's book on how to lose market share through poor customer service.
    I am being passed back and forth between Honda Customer service and dealerships. The resolution of any technical issue rest on the shoulder of service shop manager. What he or she says is the final position of Honda.
    After 4th visit on wind noise, I asked for a shop super to drive my car and see if he could hear the problem. At the end of the day, he was sure that there was no problem however he could not remember customer name, car model, car color, and location of the reported problem. He did add that he had only driven one car in that day.
    To my surprise Honda Corp. stands by decision of this field expert!
    Life is too short to be passed around and be put on hold.

    I had the same type of run around from Honda. For some reason, the person that has the final say can care less about the customer that paid $20K (more or less) for their Honda. I had the problem with my 98 Acura 3.0CL which I consider an Accord coupe with climate control. The seat kept rocking back and forth and the service shop took it apart 3 times, each time it was an all day task (?). Then they told me it was normal. The service manager asked if I wanted to see that it was normal, and he would gladly show me that it was the same on the NEW cars. So we looked. The new cars did not rock. They did something and my seat was tight. It happened again 3 months later. Same lame excuse "its normal" and compared again. Now the new cars' seats rocked (of the three CLs they had in stock). So, I had to leave my car and they said a Honda rep would come look at it and talk to me when he comes. I get a call in a week and they said that my car is ready. When I went in, I said the seat still rocked. They said that the Honda Rep said he/she talked to me and explained to me that it was normal and showed me it was normal. Honda customer service told me the same thing from Torrance. Lo and behold, I asked them:
    "How did/can the Acura(Honda) rep talk and explain/she me the normality of my car and seat when I was in Santa Barbara, 100+ miles away from Pasadena." I say to you --- Don't buy an Acura or Honda made in USA. and yes, Honda service/customer care is worse than some aspects of our bureaucracy.

    I just bought a 2002 Black Accord Coupe EX V6 last week. After reading the manual, I have two concerns: (1) Do I really have to wait to change the oil during the break-in period and (2)the engine coolant will last 120,000 miles or 10 years without changing? Really?

    1. Yes, it makes no sense at all to dump the oil on this car before 3500 miles. It is clean, clean, clean. Changing it prematurely does nothing except waste 5 quarts of oil. After that, 5-7.5k changes are plenty often enough.

    2. If that's what it says. They tend to be conservative about this. The new coolant technology [thank GM and Texaco originally, I think] makes this possible.

    Honda does not make the service recommendations in the book casually - they are actually more stringent than most, these days. Keep your money in your wallet...

    I've just leased a 2002 Ex V6 sedan. Firepepper red w/ Ivory Interior. I'm looking forward to both the car and hearing what you other owners have to say about the Accord. BTW, this is my first Honda after 3 Nissans.

    I just leased a 2002 Accord LX last Saturday. I love it so far, no problems, just wished that the SE package came w/ a manual tranny instead of auto-only. It is Nighthawk Black Pearl, my first new car and the third car I have ever owned @ the age of 22. Also have a '97 Honda Civic that needs a new engine, that's why I bought this one while it is getting fixed. But inn reading these posts I didn't know that the Accord can go 5k-7.5k w/ out an oil change, makes me wanna go out and get the manual!

    I just bought my wife an 02' SE Accord Firepepper Red/Ivory interior. Picked it up two weeks ago and love it. I curenlty own a 98 Civic LX with 43k miles but am about to sell it to buy an 02' Accord SE Satin Silver. We are looking to have a family and I want a bigger car, this will be our 6th Honda and we haven't had any major problems just a few minor ones which is to be expected with almost any car nowadays. Love our Honda's and can't envision buying anything else at this point. Test drove new Altima but found the interior very loud and engine rev's high with lots of noise. So even though it has more ponies just didn't feel as refined as the Accord.

    Well, after 16 years of taking the bus, I bought my first car as an adult, a Black 2002 Accord Coupe EX V6. So far, so good! I only drove it a few times with the moonroof open, before the cold weather set in. The heated seats are a hit with front seat passengers.

    Very pleased with this car. One concern though. After brushing snow off the car, the clear cloat was scratched. One coating of Meguiars' Scratch X didn't do anything. All car brushes should have softer bristles!!

    ...is a color that is going to show everything. Try Zymol liquid available from the discounters. It tends to be a bit more work [remember the last step: a spray bottle of water and a clean towel], but gives good results on clear with dark colors.

    And let this be a lesson: you just can't use things like snow brushes on dark-colored cars. Ours is silver for just this reason - I like the car looking good all the time, and dark colors are just too much work.

    Does anyone have any experience with the automatic transmission in the Accord V6 giving them a problem? I have a 2001 Accord EX V6 that I am curious about. This is my second Honda. The first was a 1988 LXI that I put 386,000 miles on. My car pool buddy put over 500,000 on his '88. I know what the life expectancy is on practically every part from brakes, ignition wires, complete front end, etc. By the way, my Honda mechanic is in my will, unfortunately he now works at a Subaru dealer. That might tell you something about the dealerships.

    The tone of your question leaves me scratching my head...are you looking for trouble, even if none exists? Our '01 V6 continues to be trouble-free in all respects, including the transmission. There were some problems with a short run of cars early in the '00 model year, and this seems to have people spooked. Relax and enjoy the car...

    One of many reasons why I chose Honda again after I sold my last car is the ease of maintenance. Changing the transmission fluid every 30,000 will help prolong the life of your car, in my opinion. Don't forget to change your oil frequently too =)

    Just picked up my 2002 Coupe V6. It's Naples Gold with rear wing spoiler/wood steering wheel. I chose it over the sedan because it came with 16 inch wheels/tires, the front seats seemed more bolstered and the regular Coupe steering wheel felt thicker than the sedan. I was told the Honda wood steering wheel was similar to the Acura steering wheel, i.e., thicker than the regular sedan steering wheel. The Coupe also seems to have a firmer, more controlled ride. I'll be exploring some mild appearance and performance
    upgrades. I welcome andy advice/recommendations.

    The components are from the same manufacturer. I'm pretty sure the steering wheel is just less of a quality than the Acura's. Maybe the CL's have denser wood? LOL

    I just bought an EX-V6 sedan, i love the car except for the gas pedal, it is very hard to press,it feels like you are pressing on a brick,
    does any body have the same problem??

    Last week, Edmunds rolled out new pricing pages. Along with this is a new "consumer ratings & reviews". This functionality lives in the "consumer opinions" area of the new vehicle detail page, and allows users to rate a vehicle on a number of different criteria (1 to 10 scale), as well as add his/her own free-form comments.

    I have owned Honda Accords and Civics since 1977. The reason I keep buying them is they are easy to work on and if taken care of last into the 100,000s of miles. My only complaint has been body rust. My newest vehicle is an 1996 Accord EX 4 cylinder which currently has 97,000 miles and no rust. Maybe Honda has finally fiqured that problem out.
    I recently had the timing belt... etc changed. Timing belt showed very little wear. How long will they last? Also if they break will the piston crash into the valves on this engine?

    My new '02 V6 coupe is my 4th Honda, but my first in about 15 years. It is good to have that feeling back!

    Red with spoiler, fog lights, and woodgrain trim. I didn't ask for the trim, but the dealer had to do a find. The car they found had the wood, they didn't charge me, so what the heck.

    Glad to be here and will put in my .02 from time to time.

    I have a 1990 Accord with 103,000 miles on it. I have loved this car but now think it is time to treat myself to a new one. My only concern the 1990 is the rust on the body near the tires. I hope Honda has worked out this problem. If it wasn't for that I would keep it for another 40,000 miles. I have been pricing the Accord SE. I am happy to see positive feedback on it. I am hoping when I go shopping that the dealer will throw in some extras. How is the Firepepper Red for maintainance?

    I have a 2002 accord EX 2000 miles... At 600 miles I noticed I very weird whistling sound as I accelerate at 32mph. I took it back to the dealer and they listened for it and stated that they hear it but do not know what it is. I have to wait for the district manager to hear it. They believe it is coming from the trans. Has anyone else experienced this...

    Saturday I made arrangements to purchase a SE Honda Accord with a large dealer in Boston - Herb Chambers. Everything seemed to go well, - price good, the rate 4.75% . At first they offered invoice but we settled on a very good price (I think) which included destination. Then I went to the business manager to finalize everytbing. I had refused to sign a blank agreement until the prices were on it. I checked the prices and they were finally the ones the sales and I had ageed on. The salesperson and I had discussed that I would be transferring plates and I have him the name of my insurance agent which he had given to the business manager who mentioned that I was transferring the plates. I offered to go to my car to get the information on the insurance agent but he said no need. I also signed an agreement for Honda Financial to furnish insurance policy. When I reread the paperwork today - I notice that on the agreement to furnish insurance policy and on the purchase contract a different insurance agency is noted on both documents. An insurance agency that is located according to the address next to the dealership. I called the salesperson and he said not to worry it will be taken care of tomorrow. This concerns me! Has anyone run into a similiar problem? Any suggestions I pick the car up tomorrow night. I intend to call my insurance tomorrow morning.     is all the threats of Honda (esp Civic and Accord)being the highest stolen car in America. I had someone recommend LoJack, but the only thing they can do is refund your money if they can't find the car. I would hate to have the car for only a short time only to have it stolen. What do Accord owners do to protect their car from being stolen? Should I be as concerned as I am? I live in NJ, by the way.

    I have a 1995 Honda Accord LX, I am having so many probs with it!!!!!! Am I the only one or is there any body else out there who feels my pain??????? I have been having problems (one of the problems!) with the car frequently running hot (it has been in the shop plenty of times).

    I've got an '01 Accord EX sedan, Firepepper Red with 5-speed manual transmission. I'm a died in the wool Honda fanatic, with this being my 6th Honda.

    '89 Accord LXi Hatchback - 5 spd
    '92 Accord EX Coupe - 5 Spd
    '93 Civic EX Sedan - 5 spd
    '95 Accord LX Sedan - 5 spd
    '98 CR-V EX - 5 spd
    '01 Accord EX Sedan - 5 spd

    (See any pattern here?)

    I bought my current Accord in February of 2001, and have accumulated amost 36,000 miles. I put on about 2,000 miles per month. Gas mileage averages 32 mpg in the summer, and about 30 in the winter. If I keep my speeds under 70 mph, and don't use AC, I can achieve 35 mpg. Pretty good for a car this size.

    I've had great satisfaction with all my Honda's. They have proven to be extremely reliable, economical and fun to drive.

    This site sounds pretty cool and definitely more upbeat than other discussion boards on here. I want to be around people who have Hondas and love theirs as much as I love mine.

    Just traded my 2000 EX-V6 for the 2003 model last weekend. I don't want to bore all of you with my unending adoration for this car, which I could definitely do. Many words pop into my head when I think about it....but the first word is always WOW!!!!

    Send me in a different direction if it sounds like I'm lost in the wrong place!

    I recently purchased a beautiful 2002 Accord EXV6 coupe in San Marino Red. Accessories so far: chrome exhaust tips and a chrome, H/Accord-logo license plate frame. This is my first new car in 15 years and 3rd Honda product. I've previously owned a 1981 Civic GL and a 1987 Acura Legend, both 5-speed manuals. I am disturbed by the current transmission issue. Although 2002s Accords do not -appear- to be involved, I'd feel a lot better if American Honda would clarify publicly that the 2002 Accord transmissions do not have the defect. Only 2000 and 2001 models are being included in the extended warranty offer announced on 9/20/02. Does this mean 2002 trannys are defect-free? I think not or else they would have mentioned that bit of positive news in the press release. If you own a 2002 Accord, contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009 and put the question to them. If we cannot be assured that our transmissions are defect free, we should insist that our vehicles be included in the transmission warranty program. My opinion is that Honda only acted because the press got wind of the issue.

    Yeah, you are probably right, press got involved & Honda had no choice left. We should keep an eye out for these things, I only have about 7k miles on my 02 V6 Accord, I am worried too..

    Well, I guess I'll introduce myself.

    We have two Accords, a white 1987 Accord LX with a stick-shift and 195,000 miles on it, and our newest addition (as of last night), a heathermist 1998 Accord LX w/ automatic and 73,600 miles. Looking forward for many miles to come!
