WOW, ONLY 20 BUCKS MORE THAN INVOICE! Everyone should use this as a reference, and negotiate hard for your vehicle.

    DO NOT SETTLE FOR LESS!

Recently finalized on a 2011 Touring at Eskridge Honda of Oklahoma City. All of the negotiations were through email and I highly recommend that approach.
This dealership claims that they will beat any other dealers price and they were able to do that for us. Below is the detail on our Touring deal.

    MSRP (Including Dest) - $41,535
    Invoice (Including Dest) - $37,683
Our Price (Out The Door) - $37,700 plus free tint, not including TTL

My family and I live near Seattle, WA, and I have been researching for quite a bit. I have only 2 things I require for my mini-van: 1). Leather interior (2 small children and cloth on my 2008 Camry didn't cut the mustard); and 2). Back-up camera, as the wife has never driven anything larger than our Camry.
After talking to 2 different dealerships, they are trying to get us to buy for anywhere from $36,000 to $34,000. I laugh in their face, as that is way to high, for me, and I'm not willing to pay that kind of cash for our first van. This was for the EX with the above requirements. I told them, "give me your best and final offer, and I'll decide from there".
Then we test-drove a 2010 EX, and I asked them for the two things above, with the best and final offer requirement, and after they asked me how much I was willing to pay ($30,000, less TTL) and they came back with $33,500. I'm sorry, but I have friends in AZ who purchased an EX for 27,700, OTD ~$30,000. I told him, "thank-you, and have a good evening".
He brought his sales manager over to try and convince me to talk to them more, and I said, "No. I asked for your best and final offer, and told you how much I was willing to pay, and you turned me down, flat. I have better things to do", and I walked out the door.
They have since called me and tried to talk to me, and I told them that, when we are ready for look at the 2011's, we'll get back in touch with them, but I want their best and final offer, the first time, no if's and's or but's!
So my wife and I are considering going for the Sienna, as we got better quotes and consideration from the Toyota people, than we did with the Honda people. They were acting like we needed THEM, when in fact, it is THEM that need US! End of story. Good luck buying your Odyssey, people, as it's gonna be high, for awhile.

    Xanthier,

I have a brand new 2010 Honda Ody EXL, paid under $32K for it here in Florida. I drove the 2011 Toyota Sienna LE as a Rental for about 1 week, as my other Honda was in accident. I loved it. The Sienna LE had a V6, 6-speed tranny, bluetooth (Bluetooth SUCKS on Toyota cars as you can ONLY hear the other person you are speaking to on the drivers door speaker, which is located by your left leg, had the volume all the way up--Imagine that with SCREming kids...?) Anyways, it had back-up camera on a small screen in the center trip computer, it was an ok screen. Power double sliders, rear hatch was manual (who cares) Overall, I was impressed with the Sienna, the passenger seats in the 2nd row are on sliding tracks. I was able to slide them all the way forward touching the back ofd the drivers seat. I put my bicycle in the back comfortably without taking the front tire off, PLENTY of room in the Sienna.

How does the Sienna compare to the Honda ODY..? Well, the Honda feels much heavier. (curb weight 4,600) Toyota Sienna (curb weight 4415) Honda heavier, but NOT by much, However, Honda feels like it has more of a SOLID construction.

If I had to do it all over again, LEATHER, or Pleather is a MUST with Kids and mustard, However, I used my Garmin GPS, and portable DVD player for the kids while I was renting the Sienna. Paying all that extra Money for built-in Navi and RES gets very expensive, especially if those are things that you don't use every day.

Hope this helps, good luck with whatever VAN you purchase. By the way, if you like the VW Routan (aka Town and Country) VW is selling the top of the line Routans for $10,000 OFF. I would rather have a FULLY equiped Routan than a stripped down Honda or Toyota.

Here's the LINK to the Routan on Am-Ex Zag.com-->>

I have never used the roof top rails for anything. I'd rather not have them.

Check out Consumer Reports on the VW Routan. Not too encouraging.

Engine is Chrysler and tranny is German, it's what you make of it. Maintain your vehicle and it'll last forever.

I ended up buying from Diamond honda of Glendale, CA.

The price is the price in SoCal. The car price is good, the roof rail etc price is expensive. I didn't get the honda care package which the finance guy was offering at "$100 over cost" I believe that was 5year 80k miles for $455 (cost) + $100 (markup)...or any other combo with $100 tacked on.

The experience was good. It just took a while to get the car.

Financed at 3.9% for 60 months through Honda.

I did not want to chance waiting until the end of November to find a Touring in the color combo I wanted at the price I was willing to pay. Couldn't find a touring elite AT ALL. Especially one that was priced right. I was about the pull the trigger on the 2010 Touring for 35K, but then everyone wouldn't deal on that and the price difference wasn't big enough for me to not get the 2011 model.

Let me know if you want any info on all the dealers I dealt with.

    Good luck!

The 2010 Routon top of the line $33,772 the 2010 Odessey Touring I bought last month $34,700. For a $1K more definitely by a Honda vs. a rebadged Dodge car

    Hi mikeintheoc:

I think that is an awsome deal that you are getting for the 2011 Touring Elite at a price of $38,923.42 from Weymouth Honda in MA. It looks like you did extensive research on the breakdown of the California DMV fees also (good for you) :)

I do have a question. From my online search, I found the following price quotes:
    FROM ZAG/TRUECARS.com:
the Factory Invoice is $40,370; and
the Dealer Cost is $39,505 (which includes $865 Dealer holdback, $432 Regional ad fee, and $780 Destination charge),

    FROM EDMUNDS.com:
the Invoice is $39,937 (which I figure includes the $432 Regional ad fee).

Interestingly, I saw another post in the Forum at #26959 from someone in VA (Virginia), also buying car from Weymouth in MA, for a sale price of $38,182 (MSRP was $44,030).

How is it possible, since the 2011 Ody just came out, for Weymouth Honda to sell the car AT A WHOPPING ABOUT $1,000 BELOW THE Edmunds.com's Invoice, or below the Truecars.com's Dealer Cost, WITHOUT OTHER KNOWN CURRENTLY AVAILABLE DEALER OF CUSTOMER INCENTIVES???

I did some math calculation: the price you are getting (without the car shipping fee, and the TTL, since tax varies from state to state), is about 12 to 13% off the MSRP (whereas the usually discount is about 6% from my reading/research), which is fantastic, and quite hard to believe.

Am I missing something here? If the price is indeed correct, I think all those dealerships selling at/or neat at the markup MSRP price is really making a fortune off the customers.

"...#26959 ...also buying car from Weymouth in MA, for a sale price of $38,182 (MSRP was $44,030)....."
I don't know how but USAA quote for ZIP 01773, 01760 in MA for Touring =$38,090 (invoice) :confuse:

Volume. Some dealerships make a strategic decision to try to sell as many units as possible and qualify for various sales incentives that are offered every month to the dealer from the manufacturer. It can be a risky strategy because you are forgoing money "up front" at the point of transaction in favor of money at the end of the month based on how much you sell. But there are many dealership that do this--Fitzgerald probably being the best known. They generally undercut everybody else, and look at their invetory--they carry a ton of cars and they sell them. They qualify for volume incentives from their manufacturers all the time. I have absolutely no inside info, but my guess is that that's now what Weymouth is going to try to do. The good news is that when you have somebody in a market underpricing like that, the others are going to have to match, at least in that geographic cluster. (Sort of like the so-called "Southwest effect" in airline pricing.

All that said, right now dealerships are charging close to MSRP because they are getting it. People are paying it. I suspect that won't last too much longer, as the pent up demand from people who have to have the latest and greatest Odyssey gradually gets fulfilled and the rest of us make the majority of consumers.
  • mikeintheocmikeintheoc Member Posts: 23
Unfortunately did not have the ability to wait until January for this deal to happen. They have 0 in stock of the Touring or Touring Elite. Both would have to be ordered. Earliest availability being January.

I took my lumps and painfully bought locally in SoCal as my other posts detail. The SoCal market is fairly vicious about keeping prices high, but I got a decent NOT great deal.

I don't know how they do it in Weymouth, but if you need an Odyssey I would seriously consider them if you don't need the car for a few months. I would have bought from them in Oct if my van arrived in December.

MikeintheOC - Thanks - that is helpful. I am in a very similar situation. I have been trying to buy a 2010 EX-L w/RES and NAV (only 2 left around here) or a 2010 Touring. Everytime I get a fair price quote, something changes and the deal falls through. Evidently Honda changed their incentive from $1500 to $750, so all of a sudden everyone was quoting even more for the 2010's, instead of less! That's crazy - the 2010 can't increase in value with the 2011's building up on the lots.

Let me know if you have any SoCal rec's for decent deals on the 2010's. My wife wants RES and NAV, and I am not affording the 2011 Touring at this time (although I would really like to!).
I am sure you'll be happy with your 2011 - and that gas mileage will be nice!
    Thanks!

Oh, most definitely the Honda Ody for only $1K more...no question.
  • vrmvrm Member Posts: 310
Yes - I have used roof rails and would not buy a vehicle without them.

When you buy a new mattress set, roof rails make the delivery real easy.
  • mikeintheocmikeintheoc Member Posts: 23
    Dear danielcar2,

Yes! My sentiments exactly regarding the remaining 2010 stock. The 2010 EX-L RES and NAV are hard to find in SoCal! The touring really is your best bet since there are more on the lots.

Use ZAG.com (if you can) to guarantee a low price and maybe you can find the EX-L or touring you're looking for. ZAG pricing on a touring was 35K. Also, increase your range to San Diego and up to San Luis Obispo for a price quote over email and see if others in the LA area can match it.

Specific places with more 2010 inventory:
    Riverside Honda
    Metro honda (in riverside)
    Hardin Honda of anaheim
    power honda in costa mesa
Freeway honda in Santa Ana (a few on the lot, but the internet sales manager was great to work with....patient)

Did not check as many places in LA for the 2010 inventory.

I too in the Seattle area. Was looking at 2011 Odyssey and yes, they acted as it is in hot demand and way overprice.

I am still looking and even though Odyssey does has better quality inside, we are now decided to get Sienna instead (been toyota owner and had a 04 LE AWD Sienna before). Just can't stand the overpriced Odyssey and the old school 5 speed tranny. Anyway if you are looking for Sienna, we may able to team up and get a better deal together. (have been getting some good quote in the south end)

I just went to pompano honda in south fl and test drove new 2011 EXL. Loved it. Manager does not want to reduce the price at all and said that it would take 2 years for them to lower prices. Half hour later, he offered it for 1k over the invoice, but then couldn't find the car? I guess he didn't have it on the lot and looked at others to get it from. How long before these cars will fill their lots and be sold at invoice???

Just got an offer of $29,730.00 for a 2011 EX. Fair price, anyone?
  • kvn1kvn1 Member Posts: 52
$29,730 for EX is a fair deal, which is 2k off MSRP, I was offered 29.6k from OC, CA dealers. I would aim for 29k by end of Dec or End of Jan-2011.

You can buy the same equiped Sienna LE for 26k now every where.

Just got quoted for $40075 + TTL for a touring elite. This is the lowest I've seen but I still yet to see or test drive an elite in person.

Total OTD which includes roof rack and side molding is about $45000.
  • odyssey4usodyssey4us Member Posts: 45
dado k, and others, You can do your own searching around your state or region by using cars.com. You can narrow them by color, etc., and find what the dealers in your area have in stock. Then you can deal with them directly, or the dealer who has the best deal can trade for the van you want. I made a deal last week, and they immediately send a driver about 200 miles to another dealer to get the color and model I wanted. But, you can look around own your own via cars.com beforehand. Good luck.

    All,

Wanted to see if anyone has any luck in the NYC area for a 2011 EXL w/RES for under 34000 with destination of $780 and doc of $298 included?

If so, please let me know where and which agent.

    Greatly appreciate the help.

Well I am in the Dallas area and got fed up with the greedy Honda dealerships here. I just put a deposit on a 2011 Sienna SE with all packages except for towing and it's $32K +TTL. No DVD since the wife wants 4 aftermarket DVD headrests which will be less than $1000. It's better looking (IMO) and bigger engine. Also edged out the Odyssey in latest Motor Trend. We are fairly happy owners of a 2001 Odyssey which has had very few problems. Oklahoma did have much better pricing but 3 hr drive for us each way.

Anyway, are you looking for Odyssey or Sienna? We have been going back and forth but as for now Sienna XLE AWD is what we are thinking. If Odyssey, probably EX/EXL/EXL with DVD

This forum has been a great resource. I negogiated price on 2011 EX-L over emails - got it to 250$ over invoice in the bay area. Depending on dealership - most entertain price of $1000 over invoice. So just have to wait around a bit. Cars are very few and not much choice in terms of color. Happy with the car purchase overall. The price might go up over the next few months as Honda is not manufacturing much and dealers dont budge a bit.

Hi, Im located in Southern Cal., I got a quote thru my broker for roughly $36,600 Out the door, this incl. tax, title and licensing for 2011 Honda Ody. EX-L.They quoted me $500 over invoice and gave me a 3.28% for financing thru honda. What do you think of the price??? Let me know, i'm in the market to purchase one by the end of the month. I checked out the Toyota Sienna, it was alot cheaper but the wife preferred a Honda Ody.

fixmix, congratulations on your new EX-L. $250 over invoice is a great deal. I'm in the bay area and too looking for a 2011 EX-L. Do you mind sharing the name of the dealership and the sales person you were dealing with? Thanks in advance.

Hi i am trying to buy a Honda Odyssey EX-L. I got a quote for $30,293 including destination charges. I still need to pay tax and license which would apparently cost a total of $3485.75 (this includes DMV fees). Bringing everything to a total of $3303.81. We live in the San Francisco Bay area. Is this a good deal.

They also disclosed that the vehicle had minor damages when it came into the port before arriving at the dealership. The damage was promptly repaired, and the van was shipped out to the dealer. Again, this was minor damage, and cosmetic as opposed to structural.

Any thoughts would be very helpful.

    Thanks

a very bad deal, 30,293 for 2010, you can buy 32,500 for same EX-L 2011. Plus the Van has damage, they are trying to sell you a lemon, don't go for it.

TERRIBLE DEAL. RUN AWAY! You can buy it for $29K pre-tax with no damages. The bay area has over 60 2010 odesseys on the lots. If you can't get $29K w/o any pre-damages then wait two weeks.

We have been looking for a Touring Elite in Southern California -- specifically in Smoky Topaz or Dark Cherry Pearl. Anyone seen either of these in the area? Seems like Cars.com is a quick way to search inventory but who knows whether the dealers keep that information up to date. Tried calling around dealerships and looking at individual dealer websites too. A tedious task to say the least, and we've been at this since they started hitting the lots in late September. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

We prefer a van with leather seat. Right now leaning towards Ody EXL, can also consider Sienna XLE. But the price here in WA is ridiculous.

Have you thought about remotely buying from weymouth honda? They have very good price, but we need to handle the shipping by ourselves, and I couldn't make a decision on that...

Just purchased a the 2011 EX-L w/RES at Northwest Honda in Baltimore. We had a 06 Pilot EX-L w/nav that had a KBB trade in value of 17,000 assuming "good" shape.

    Purchase price - 32,676
    Trade - 17,000
    Title ect.. 375
    Tax -941
Total OTD 16,992 (33,992 without the trade)
Based on what I am seeing here this is a great price, although I assume they will make their profit on the trade.

    I PM you, please check.

You are right, I have not seen any deal on Honda but Sienna pretty reasonable (below invoice)
XLE is ~$30000-$31000 without DVD or Nav.

thats a good price. about $1k below invoice. although as you pointed out they may make it up in the trade. what condition would you consider your trade?

Sounds fair to me. We are in the Dallas area and just bought a 2011 EX-L w/ RES last night for $38,000 drive out price. Wanted a plain EX-L but all they had was white. The drive out price for it was $36,400. We were happy with the experience at Lute Riley Honda in Richardson.
  • kvn1kvn1 Member Posts: 52
That is ok deal, any trade-in deal you must add at least 2k to 3k to your purchase price, this is how much dealer will make on your old car. If you sell on your own you could make 2-3k more on your trade. So your purcahse price could be 36k OTD without trade-in, still better than those paying in Dallas area which is rediculus high price compare to the rest of the country. By now you should at least negotiate 2-3k off MSRP on any model. Nov-Dec will be a slow month for dealers as most people are spending on holiday shopping and push back new car purchase to next year.
  • buying1buying1 Member Posts: 3
It was in decent shape, I was worried that they would try to get it for less because it had significant scratching on the front and back bumpers from our garage doors. There were other scuffs and scratches as well. The inside was not all that clean as we have used it for 5 years with kids. These are things that the dealer can take care of with no problem, but I still expected more of a fuss.

I think they may have had a buyer already as they originally wanted to give 15k and a few hours later came back at 17k. It had close to 59k on it.
