You already have CPO warranty, so you do not need extra until unless you want to drive this vehicle to dirt in next 10 years. after 10 years of life all vehicles are same. All warranty will make excuses when time comes to pay big bills so careful what you buy.

Just bought EX-L yesterday from Herson's in Rockville, MD for 31,000 + 780 destination + 100 processing = 31880 + TTL. We live in No Va but the MD dealers seemed more interested in our business. First got offer from O'Donnell Honda in Ellicot City for 31,200, then was going to buy from Criswell in Germantown for 31,100, but they told us they had the color we wanted and then didn't. Herson's was able to get the color we wanted for the price we wanted. 200 below invoice is pretty good we think. Maybe even could have gotten lower if we had been willing to spend more time going from dealer to dealer. Seems like you just tell any MD dealer you got a certain price from another dealer and they want to beat it.
  • mfletou1mfletou1 Member Posts: 508
Exactly right on MD vs VA. Seems like it has always been that way too. I think there's just more competition for fewer people in that area. Those dealers are basically 10 minutes apart one after another--Ourisman/College Park/Sport/Herson's/Criswell.

I had purchased my last Odyssey, a 2007, from Herson's and had a great experience. But I guess it just varies week to week--this time around they were totally non-competitive. Quoted me $35+ for an EXL-RES and that was that. Since they don't put their inventory online, I wondered if maybe they didn't even have any and thus weren't all that willing to deal.

I give Criswell credit--when I told them my best price, they told me they had no interest in selling me the car for that price. Hey, I appreciated the honesty.

Wanted to thank everyone for posting their experience. here is mine.
MD dealers have better pricing than Va dealers.
    i got invoice price.
28822 from Pohanka of Salisbury, Brown's Honda, O'Donnell Honda, and slightly less (about 200) at Northwest Honda. For those interested, i would definitely wait til the end of the month now year to buy, dealers are more motivated to work with you.

Ultimately i went with Pohanka of Salisbury, were the first i contacted. They gave me a good deal on my trade. They found the exact color combo i wanted at no extra charge Black/Truffle. And they delivered the Odyssey right to my door and picked up my trade. Took about 30 minutes to drive it around sign all my papers and was done. I also got financing through them 2.84% for 60 months.

Thanks for everyone's very useful information. It appears Dallas has some of the worst pricing around. I'm more than willing to drive a few hours if it helps the cause. Anyone know if other placesurrounding Dallas that have better pricing. I saw some OK pricing listed in the search, is there any issue buying in OK in terms of registration?

Looking for somewhere between EX-L and Touring. If anyone has a specific internet contact and/or deal that would be very helpful.

    Thanks!

That will deal the way Weymouth in Boston does. I would go up there, but there's a Honda rule or something that won't allow them to do outside of region leases. So, I'm going to try somewhere closer.
I'm looking for an Elite in silver or gray with truffle or gray interior.

Weymouth has them for 556 mo with zero down. Anyone know of any dealer in the SE that will come close.
  • gee35coupegee35coupe Member Posts: 3,387
I'm going to second Ody. I too am looking for an Elite for those 2 reasons plus the upgrades to the speakers and wattage on the stereo.

I agree whole-heartedly about the HDMI input as well. I'm already beyond DVD's, so the HDMI is a necessity.

My friend has been emailing with a sales person and was almost settled on the price. When he went into the dealer to make the deal, they slap on Dealer Advertising Fee of $1,600.00. Yes, that's right. One Thousand and Six Hundred Dollars for Advertising Fee. Do they think we are an idiots? Most people now know enough about buying cars and kind of ridiculous fees to avoid. He was quite insulted. AVOID David McDavid Honda DFW area like a PLAGUE. Go somewhere else where you are not treated like an idiot unless you want to pay $1,600.00 in advertising fee.

    Hello All,

Here's an article from car buying tips on Ad Fees, Remember ad fees are what dealers pay to advertise their merchandise and it's the cost of doing business like when merchants pay for credit card processing Fees.

QUESTION: does Wal-Mart or Target charge their customers an ad Fee to run their Circular through the Newspaper? Of course NOT. It's the cost of doing business, and the customers should not pay for a dealer to Ineffectively move their product.

    Here's the article-->> http://www.carbuyingtips.com/car3.htm

Picked up a 2011 Touring from Nalley Honda in Brunswick, GA for 37,682. Deal done over the phone and email. Picked it up and was out of the door in less than an hour. I would recommend them. Much better than Hilton Head Honda or Southern Motors or Grainger. No funny business. Only issue was the huge DOC fee of 599. However, even with that, the final selling price was still the best that was to be found anywhere in the area. Price breakdown:

    Sales price incl dest 37682
    +DOC fee 599
    +No Dealer Add ons
+Tax Tag and Title are state specific so there is no need to post this.

Hope that helps anyone in my area. Attempted dealing with Weymouth but really couldn't justify the time and expense of having to get a vehicle several hundred miles away. Not to mention I also had a trade that I was turning in...so getting it to MA would've been even more expense. Hope this helps.

Just created the account to pay back the community. I have benefited a lot from this thread. I purchased EX-L a little over invoice at Honda of Lake Jackson, 45 miles south to Houston, right before Thanksgiving. Overall, great experience. Someone posted early that Honda of Clear Lake quoted close to invoice, too. You can try both.
  • ohmy3ohmy3 Member Posts: 14
I agree. I emailed several North Dallas area dealerships and they all wanted MSRP for the Elite and Bankston in Lewisville wanted $1,000 more than MSRP.

Irving Honda says the right price is what I'm willing to pay, but won't commit to price or anything in email and insists I have to go in. I went through internet sales so that I can negotiate and do everything online and phone, then go in to sign paper work.

I will be expanding my search outside Dallas.

Honda did not get in trouble with the government over gas mileage estimates. I've heard this accusation before ( against various manufacturers). When the epa changed over it's estimates to 'real world driving' in 2008, everyone looked bad. (See http://www.edmunds.com/advice/fueleconomy/articles/118986/article.html). No manufacturer 'cheats' on the epa estimates, they all print the numbers the epa comes up with. You should stop spreading this false rumor.

p.s. and most people don't' get the epa estimates old or new anyway, unless they drive like elmer fudd

Has anyone heard of or used Fighting Chance? the website makes some good points but is the $40 worth it or is it information I could find myself?

Also, we're debating whether to buy here (DC area) or wait until we move to CA early next year (do we jump now at what appears to be greater supply on the east coast but pay double registration and shipping cross-country or just wait til we move west and hope supply is better in CA by then). Opinions welcome.
  • bonk1977bonk1977 Member Posts: 2
Just remember sales tax is around 8-25% - 8.75% in CA + another 400-450 for registration.
  • cheapskate8cheapskate8 Member Posts: 34
Good question. As for fighting chance I am not sure. What I do know is inventories are increasing in California and will be pretty stocked by Honda's Feb Presidents Day Sale. What we do know is price want go up only down as supply increases. You will not put the 2,500 to 3,000 miles on your van driving it cross country or have to pay to ship it. Are you military? If so keep register in home state saving a ton on taxes (many states subtract trade-in price from overall taxable value CA does not). Can you get a good price in CA? Like DC I have over 15 Honda dealers within an hours drive so they are competing for business. I waited on my move from FL to CA and am glad I did, but I registered it via mail in Florida and it was pretty easy. So my tax bill was only $1250 vs $3400 in CA. So if you have to double register it remember the $600 you save you will pay it back to CA when you register here. So either way I reccommend waiting.

After looking over FightingChance's website everything they give you for $39.95 you can get from Consumer Reports website with subscription. Any other thoughts from anyone else???

Ok, so I'm new to all of this and new to the Odyssey, but here's the deal I got from a local dealership for the new 2011 EX-L RES. Their internet price offer is $33681 (including destination and handling charges), based on a msrp of 36830. What do you think, is this a good deal?

    EX Price = $28,822

    good luck! God bless U.

After over a month of looking around, we finally bought the EX-L. We live in the SF bay area and almost bought one at 1400 over invoice at a big dealership (so they claim) a few days ago. The silver/truffle was in short supply and naturally the dealer wanted more money. They quoted a good internet price, I went there, they did not have the car, went there a week later when they had the car and then they raised the price 400 bucks. Sleazy car salesmanship at display. Anyway, we were not flexible on the color combination, so decided to get it. We were fortunately saved from that deal when my wife spotted a huge defect on the door jamb. I can't believe the saleman tried to sell this to us. The good sales manager agreed to void the contract when this was brought to his attention.

Anyway, another dealership in the east bay got the same color car last week and we jumped on it. Good sales people there were happy to sell the car to us at 500 over invoice. We also ended up getting 7 year/80000 mile "Honda Care" extended warranty including 2 years of scheduled maintenance for 1500. Good deal for a little peace of mind, I think. Good experience overall.

We love the car so far, altough we haven't driven it much. So far we are just so excited playing with the bluetooth/usb audio, cd-library features...will hopefully go on a longer drive today.

I did my homework and ended up scoring what I feel was a very good deal. We got the EX-L RES for $300 under invoice, $33,500:) It seems that December is a great time to buy a car- the dealerships are trying to make end of year quotas, and most people are spending money on other things, not cars. I was also able to get the full Kelly Blue Book estimate for my trade in, of course they offered low, but I was willing to walk away and leave it all on their table. I told them that I wanted the full amount and they ended up giving it to me. I was in and out of the dealership several times over the span of 4 days, even double checking everything by getting a "second opinion" at another Honda dealership. I'm thankful for the help this web site offered, making me a much more educated consumer who was able to swing a great deal!

Any recommended dealerships in norcal that are offering good prices on the Touring? Some of the reported prices paid ($36K-$37K) appear to be too good and was wondering if any norcal dealers are offering such prices.

I don't understand how you got the base price of $36,325 when Edmunds has the invoice listed at $37,683. That's a $1,358 difference!! What am I missing? Can anyone comment and clear this up for me??? Does the invoice price change from state to state? We are in IL.

We offered a base price of $37,783 in IL ($100 over invoice according to my calculations) and thought we'd be doing really well if we get that.....still waiting for the reply. We're pretty close already.

You have to scroll up a little and look and previous prices. I posted mine.

Yes, the Polished Metal Odyssey EX-L w/RES sitting in my driveway was purchased for $32700,+ $300 in accessories. (including freight.)

It was hard to get that deal, but I did get it.

Autowest Honda of Fremont - Their "yelp" rating is at 2 stars:

    http://www.yelp.com/biz/autowest-honda-fremont

Also, for my internet quote, their pricing was one of the highest.
  • siggie1siggie1 Member Posts: 56
When we leased a 2008 Odyssey Touring in November 2007 (just after the new model appeared) the capitalized cost was 1166.40 under invoice as shown here:

    MSRP: 40,645.00
    Vehicle Cost 36,849.40
    Markup -1,166.40
    Option Price 0.00
    Total Selling Price 35,683.00

"Vehicle Cost" is the invoice price. "Markup" is what they have to play with under invoice. So, this deal does not surprise me. You just have to find a dealer willing to deal. The way you can tell if they're willing to deal is to ask for the Dealer Disclosure form. That's where the information above came from.

Yes, it looks like they are not big on this "internet" thing. They quoted msrp on the internet. I feel this is because people just end up using internet quotes to pitch one dealer against another.

You are right about their yelp rating. half the people complain about their salemanship and the other half about service department. I had a good experience with the first part. Since I did get VCP from them (2 years worth of oil changes), I guess I can either try my luck going back there, or just take it to another autowest dealership. I took my acura to the autowest acura on stevens creek for 5 years. Thats a good place I can take my odyssey also, I guess.

just to share our experience in case it helps anyone... emailed for quotes via edmunds and the lowest were diamond honda in glendale and spreen honda in redlands. most others either had no stock of 2011s or a few but none in our trim/color choice, or wanted msrp.

    $32,950 + ttl.

we were in no hurry but were ready to buy. went to spreen and read the yelp reviews, etc. and were cautiously optimistic.

i knew more about the 2011 odyssey than the sales guy...but he was friendly and walked us through the purchase, confirmed the online quote (showed him the email on my iphone)...

we wanted the pearl black/truffle. they only had 1 and i noticed immediately the car had roof rails/cross bars, cargo tray, mud flaps, door sill garnish, body side mouldings, front window tint... none of that was on the sticker on the window. just the msrp of $35,200.

we didn't necessarily come in needing/wanting any of the above but quite honestly i probably would've added a few of the above later on, buying online and installing myself... so we moved forward in the process and see when they'd notice and how much they'd upcharge..

so he's ringing us up for $32,950. just before we are going to financing to pay, while the car was getting detailed, a manager runs back and says "hold on, we have a problem! this car has a bunch of other stuff on there!"

now, i don't know if this was scam and part of their M.O., but they said all the extra was $2500 worth of extra stuff and they couldn't sell it for the $32,950 that the salesman had agreed to.

not cool, we said. it was their mistake and the sticker on the car made no mention of the extras. we got up to leave. they said, come back in 2 days and the mechanics will remove all the stuff and they will still sell it for $32,950, or they'll knock it down from $2500 to $1000 if we buy today.

we said we didn't need all the stuff, were not too happy they were doing this minute upcharge, but to just get the deal done and go home, offered $500 for the extras. they wouldn't do it. so we left.

after eating, feeding the kids, i did some more in depth internet searches pricing the options and we decided to see if after some time to think about it, they'd negotiate..

called back and we ended up getting the car + add ons for additional $700. happy not to have to go through another 3 hour experience at another dealership and time saved having to order/install the accessories myself.

so overall, while not the amazing deal some are getting in other states (i.e $33k for ex-l w/dvd is awesome), we were happy.

we are a 2 ipad family so those will do for entertainment and we have a garmin we move between cars and will have to do -- the nav is nice though on that big 8" screen.

btw, financing initially offered $2400 for a 7 year/100k, knocked down to $1300. i'm not big on extended warranties so declined -- just wanted to get out of there at that point.

but am now considering a honda care warranty since it's a new model year and we do plan to keep the car at least 7+/100k... and all the power doors/gizmos and honda transmission hx makes the insurance nice. got an online quote for $1100 for 7/100k and $1300 8/120k so may get one of them in the next couple of weeks.

The lowest quote on this model I recd in IL yesterday evening was $31,891 + TTL . Honda EX-L w/ RES. My friend picked up a similar model in April 2008 for $ 30 k on the road. Not sure if its worth the wait until April 2011.
