Folks, let's just ignore the bimmer fans who are bashing G35 on this forum. Don't let them do to this forum what they have done to their own bimmer message boards.

They will drag us down to their level and then beat us with experience! Just ignore them, please.

    Riez-

I test drove a plain-jane 325 to compare with my current Camry (apples and oranges, I know), and I also test drove a specced out 330, with premium package but no sprts package.

But coming from a Camry, I was underwhelmed and I did not see myself spending all that money for what I though was very little in return. Just my opinion.

I also freely admit that I have yet to test drive the G35, so may be that might be a let down as well. I am in no hurry - will wait for the crowds to die down.

Bread-n-butter cars such as Camrys and Accords have come a long way, so unless you really push a sport sedan during a test drive, you'll be underwhelmed.

With maturity, responsibility, and generosity in the right direction oftentimes comes the ability to enjoy some of the finer things in life. I don't have to drive any car irresponsibly or race others on the street to enjoy the product. That is perhaps something you have not yet come to appreciate.
  • dmmattixdmmattix Member Posts: 77
One of the things like really liked about the G35 was how civil and down to earth the folks posting on the forums have been. Gabman hinted at it and you folks ignored it. I guess I will just say it. CALM DOWN!!

Jlan, you have no idea the situation dafreak was in. I live in Northeast Oklahoma, there are plenty of places to test the G35 at near triple digit speeds fairly safely. Now if I were test driving in metro Atlanta I could not say that. I do not street race as a practice but that is not to say that I could not get caught up in the moment test driving a new 'Sports' Sedan, particularly if the person right next to me made a big point of challenging me. We all act like children sometime (as my wife is always telling me), if we didn't life would be REAL boring and we certainly would not be looking at this type of car. Dafreak, you don't know jlan's situation. He could have had someone close to him injured or killed in a street race (it DOES happen).

Kdshapiro may just love the BMW. What's not to love? The vehicle is responsive, handles extremely well, and downright gorgeous. It works for me but so does the G35 and the G costs a bunch less. The reason I got the G35 was that I had a similar situation with dealerships only the other way around and while I really liked the BMW I also really liked the G35. When the vehicles are real close together for you then price makes a difference. Maybe there is something kdshapiro finds appealing enough about the BMW that makes him want to spend the extra money? That's why they make all these different cars.

I just don't see the value in bashing each other back and forth. Civility is the answer.

Final point. Maybe kdshapiro has not really made up his mind. Once I had decided not to buy the A4 I dropped out of posting on the Audiworld forum. Same with the BMW. I really don't see why kdshapiro would waste his time here unless he really had not decided on the BMW instead of the G35....

    Wow, talk about pedantic:

    >>I don't have to drive any car irresponsibly or race others on the street to enjoy the product<<

Personally, I don't see much point in owning a car like a Bimmer, G35, Porsche, etc unless I'm pushing it. The only way to enjoy it, is to use it. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a person in a real performance car using the car's potential. I watched a cat (and passengers) with an M5 on a freeway on-ramp the other day exploit just a little bit of what that car's got. It made my skin tingle as he rocketed around the five cars ahead of us (he used the carpool lane at 2-3 times the legal limit) and zipped away into the night, leaving us long behind as those signature taillights disappeared in a matter of seconds.

Of course you can then juxtapose that with the 90-odd percent of other Bimmer/MB drivers who putter along as if driving a Lincoln. Why bother getting a car with some edge if you're a Caddy-style, pimpin-driver? Weird. Oh well, to each his own.

There were several posts I think yesterday about STS-equipped models showing up at dealerships. What part of the country are you folks in? I am in Texas and waiting for an STS-equipped model to arrive and the dealer is telling me it will arrive sometime in April. I am getting tired of waiting.......

FYI, the G35 is the second Infiniti (2002 Q45 was first) to have NO common parts with any Nissan except the engine and even that is modified especially for Infiniti.

Value - I can afford about anything I want to drive but ordered a G35 - why? Well, it just isn't worth $75K to get from point A to point B if I can have as much fun (or more) for $35k -$40k. Maybe the price will go up soon but right now the G35 gives more bang for the buck than anything out there and I drove most of them. Love the 7 series beemer the $ are unreasonable for what you get. I'll spend the difference having a good time.
  • dafreakdafreak Member Posts: 154
Jlan, I too am grateful to be able to afford the finer things in life...I however would find it difficult to substantiate the purchase of a Porsche, if, for example, one of its sole purposes was as a commuter to the country club….This image definitely projects a certain level of responsibility, maturity and generosity....I can not imagine tht you were not excited when you purchased your C2 at the thought of the sheer power and handling that the car posseses...Furthermore, I am fairly certain that you have abused your car as I had abused the G35 in my test drive...
  • neo_gtrwneo_gtrw Member Posts: 76
    You made some great points.
kdshapiro is here to provoke, not to contribute, so let's ignore him. What do you do when someone makes a prank phone call to your home? Do you spend ten minutes arguing with him? No, of course not! You just hang up; No need to waste your time and effort.
kdshapiro, I happen to think that G35 is a better buy with comparable performance. But do I go to the bmw boards and try to provoke the bimmer fans? No. Since your mind is already made up on 330i vs. G35, perhaps you can make more contributions to the e46 message board, or is that place getting too boring.

Wow! the board is getting heated :)

I like what Gabman said about to each his own and the analogy of carparts and girlparts was funny because its TRUE! *laughing*

It was especially poignant because my Wife and I pulled into the grocery store parking lot last night to grab a bottle of wine for dinner.

A Jaguar x-type pulls up and parks right next us as I am tossing my coat into the trunk...

I looked over his car, a very deep and attractive green, and as he was getting out he nodded and said "Very nice! I heard a little about the G35's they sound like great cars"

I told him "Thank you, I did some research on the x-types too before I bought this, very nice car also, very refined..."

and in the middle of my sentence his wife (girlfriend) got out of the passenger seat and my jaw dropped! I don't think I have ever seen a more stunning redhead!

I didn't want to him to think I was gawking at his significant other, and so I was going to make another comment about how much I liked his color choice for the car, but when I looked back, he was staring at my wife who was pulling something out of the trunk!

    *laughing*

See?! It is possible for people to be civil about their differing choices in cars, admire attractive women with civility, and feel good about their choices without bashing others decisions, what more could a guy ask for?! :)

Men, it's kind of cool to be us sometimes!

p.s. My wife commented that the other gentleman's wife was very pretty... See?! Women can be civil to each other too! :)

Is it time yet to add some Humour?

I think we need some chicks on this page to cool everyone down, and then to get us hot in the right way?

    Anyone agree?
  • gabmangabman Member Posts: 284
Thanks for the laugh, could picture the whole thing. How's the car ?

Still feeling that rush when you step on the throttle, you know, that instant feeling of lots of power, almost like when a roller coaster goes over the crest and commences it's decent.
  • dafreakdafreak Member Posts: 154
I took offense to jlan's post...i apologize and will refrain from anymore conversations with him...send in the clowns....

I know the frustration. Tell Dane 4 to go find that redhead, that should perk us up. (notice i did not say a word about his gorgeous wife)
  • magnetophonemagnetophone Member Posts: 605
As much as I love the Infiniti G35, I have to admit that I am shameless in the sense that if I could afford a car in this price range (maybe after the student loans), I might pick the car that has the most "panache."

An X-type is so gorgeous. Forget that it's a Mondeo underneath ;)

Just keep in mind that the country-club set that dafreak was mentioning is going to buy cars because of how others feel about them.

But, I do love the G35, and hope it sells reasonably. It's certainly better than the IS and CTS!

I caught sight of one driving the other day. Now, I sat in one at the auto shows (LA and San Diego) but didn't really dig it either time. Seeing it on the road though made me laugh. God, that's an awful looking hunk of American made junk. Thank heavens the Germans and Japanese build cars!

Dane4, Great parking lot story #3169. Very philosophical too. May apply to many things in life. If I were a pastor, I would use it in my next sermon. In fact, I might forward it to my pastor.

dmmatix, Bravo! Well said. Let's all be civil.
  • lsclsc Member Posts: 210
I agree with you. Unlike jlan I cannot afford the finer things in life such a Porsche 911. Maybe someday...

However, nothing irritates me more than a rich guy in a fast car driving like a turtle on the left lane of the highway. Like he owns the road. Does affluency lead to loss of consideration for others?

As long as they are out of my way, I don't care as much. It's nice to see them give it some juice though...it's cool to watch the cars like the M3 dice through the traffic.

Just picked up my new red G35 last night and feel blessed to have such a beautiful car. It is a neat candy apple red with the luxury package and navigation system. I am really glad that I got the navigation system and feel it is well worth the extra $2,000. It led me home and told me when I got here, ha! This is a car that I will keep for a long time. I traded in my much loved 1999 Maxima SE and have great confidence in Nissan products. Of course this is in a different world. I had trouble sleeping last night because I felt so excited. Previously went to the BMW dealer thinking I would like a 330. The BMW people were complete snobs and it seemed as though they wanted me to beg them to sell me a car. I should really go back and thank them because I feel that I ended up with a car that will suit me better. We go to Germany every spring and the BMW and Mercedes people are just like the ones here in San Diego, strange! My hat is off to the fine people at discover Infinity in San Diego because they couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The car had 7 miles on it when I picked it up and now has 24, am busy trying to learn all the features of the car and GPS unit and enjoying every minute.

The fun quotient is still rising on the car :)

I drove down to Monterey yesterday for a meeting. Coming back home over highway 17 thru the mountains was incredible fun! I drove rather sedately just enjoying the beautiful day and the scenery, but the car just kept wanting to climb the hill faster, and call me strange, but I'm addicted to the growl the engine makes under power :)

The most notable part of the trip was when I was getting back on the freeway after stopping for some food. I picked up a reasonable amount of speed and looking in my sideview mirror I see a BMW closing up the distance about 200 yards back... "Hmmm... I think to myself, I don't want to intercept his track just getting on the freeway so I give it unconsciously what I think was a little more gas.

Oh how nice! the Bimmer driver is slowing down and giving me a bit more room, very nice gesture... I merge and look out ahead and noticed that I was going over 85 *laughing* Gagh! :)

Oh, about that redhead...a bit more detail. We ran into them several times in the grocery store, as the wife decided she needed to get a few other things while we were there...

She was mesmerizing! and my wife poked me a couple of times humorously everytime we passed each other in the aisles. She tends to be very open about things like that... A look but don't touch policy.

I'm not certain what it was, but her presence was just intoxicating... I watched her at one point pull a bottle of wine from the shelf and read the label. She cradled the bottle in both hands and when she carefully placed it back on the shelf she turned it slowly so that the label faced perfectly outward. Her movements were intensely graceful and methodical.

Ok, I said to myself, get a grip! I wander over to collect the wife and she's having a conversation with the woman's husband! It turns out that they are indeed married, and that he was an attorney who had offices in the city, and she was a member of *gulp* a dance company in Los Angeles...

The four of us talked for almost 30 minutes about the local points of interest, 9-11, cars, upcoming tax time...

They were an incredibly nice couple! Now I just need to get my danged mind out of the gutter! :)

I am witholding the names to protect the innocent, and I am not going into anymore detail about following and future events concerning the foursome for dinner we agreed on in the city next weekend.

So you must get all your minds out of the gutter too! LoL!

Cars are great! but there are priorities... I now have another another fond memory of my G35 and it is only 1 week old! :)

Feel free to send the accounting to your pastor... I am the first to admit that my great weakness is admiring attractive women a bit too much :)

Thank God the wife is understanding, its one of the reasons I married her... Never strayed or had a desire to, but my imagination tends to get overworked alot.

But back to the car theme :) the G35 also appealed to my sense of practicality and value sense. That I love the styling is a wonderful coincidence that makes the whole package attractive.

    have a good one!

The guys at Discover Infiniti are among the best trained salespeople I've ever met. They're pleasant, know their cars and comp and work hard to make buyers happy. I'm sorta glad I'm in my house-buying mode and no 6 speed exists right now, otherwise those guys coulda talked me into getting a G to match the one my friend bought last week.

So the redhead is a dancer, huh. Classic or modern, I wonder.

What's your age bracket, Dave? I'll say between 30 and 35, still young and exuberant. I am over 50, perhaps a bit too old for a G35. I belong to the Lexus LS crowd but don't want to spend that kind of money on a car. How about your profession? I'll bet you are not a banker. I work for a big bank. Most bankers I know have very little sense of humor.

Look, you guys can pick on the beemer folks all you want but please take it easy on the "old" and "country club" thing. I've got a G35 on order, belong to a country club, have a weakness for young redheads (blondes and brunettes too) and loved giving the G35 a little "exercise" on the test drives. Don't see anything wrong with any of that and I'm 57!

If you younger guys wonder what people my age do for entertainment, we do the same thing you do, we just it better. lol
  • dane4dane4 Member Posts: 107
Definitely not a banker! In my college days I went out with a young lady who's father was a banker with Credit Suisse, and you're right! almost no sense of humor at all unless it was about a smaller financial firm they happened to crush under the weight of their business accumen. I actually said that to him once and I think it was the only time I heard him laugh :)

You were a little on the low side age-wise, I'm 39 and work for a International Consulting firm out of San Francisco. Wonderful work! Wonderful people! My philosophy is if you want to become truly proficient in an area of knowledge, then watch and listen to people who know something about the subject. Books and classes are all well and good, but they are only a guideline hinting at how real people in the real world solve problems. That is why I came to this board and other technical subject matter threads. It is an incredible resource for wealth of real world data and directions to find real world data. (You just have to search a bit thru anecdotal evidence likem mine *laughing* and the little disagreements that might flare up :) )

To old for a G35? I don't think being over 50 is too old for it at all. Like all mechanical things, the car is a tool and more than appealing to a certain age bracket, I think its appeal is more in how it has melded its attributes (performance, styling, reliability, cost) to represent a logical and more than reasonable answer to the question of how to get from a to b on the road :)

    Talk to you soon!

    That was a great posting!

My nephew has an old Toyota Corolla GTS that I had in storage for years, from the time when 16-Valve double overhead CAM 7500 redline was the THING... I thought, since he is starting college that would be a great tooling about car for him, and would save him thousands of dollars on getting even a junker used car as well.

I told him that he just had to get it running right and mechanically sound, and it was his for free. He did that, and is now in the process of turning into a "Fast and Furious" car LoL!

He asked me if I was going to get the aero kit and other accessories and turn my G35 into a Fast and Furious ride also :) I told him, No... and he asked "Dang Uncle Dave, are you getting old?!"

and I told him in response, "No, not getting old, I'm ok being Slow and Satisfied" :)

JW, Glad to know there are other "young 50s" on this board, who share the same weekness for fine wine, young car and fast redheads (or the other way round). I guess gandhim3, dane4 and gab the tong man have these same weaknesses but I think they belong to a younger, more hormonal crowd.
  • gandhim3gandhim3 Member Posts: 191
How the heck did you know I belong to the "younger" crowd ?!

And in case anyone is wondering, I am 25. And my hormones allow me to take on that blonde, redhead and brunette all at the same time. LOL

Responding to a few general comments made. I am in my early 50s and love my G35, and more than a few oldie but goodie types seem to be purchasing this car. Regarding who the G35 is being marketed to, see the article at this URL: http://wheels.mainetoday.com/buysell/020315infiniti.shtml. I echo the experience of those who went to the BMW dealership. I, too, had the experience where the BMW salespeople acted like they could care less whether you ordered a car or not, as if they were doing me a favor. Perhaps they feel that their aloofness is part of the persona of the Teutonic cachet mystique? The Infiniti people were well trained to be personable and respectful and it shows (and works). My take is that BMW has a great product and knows it, and only if/when they lose market share to something like the G35 will they sit up and take notice, and perhaps change the behavior of their dealership sales personnel.

I don't fit into a single one of their target demographics. But I have my eye on a silver number that just may make its way into my garage tomorrow.... depending on how much I can avoid getting molested on my trade-in. I'm all for sexy redheaded dancers too, by the way.

Dane - I'd be interested to know what firm you work for as that is my line of business as well. I understand if you don't want to publically proclaim the firm though. I probably wouldn't.

And did I mention I like redheads too?
  • gabmangabman Member Posts: 284
Just got back from the sushi man, yes real men eat sushi. I am happy to see from the number of posts that we all do have one thing in common and that is redhead dancers, however, remember why redheads are a rare breed, they have tempers as good as their looks.

Am very pleased to see that things have lightened up around here sounds like everyone is having a good time and at no ones expense.

By the way I am 45.
  • gabmangabman Member Posts: 284
I to like the Jaguar X however if you think BMW dealers have something up their A_ _ _, these Jag guys are not far behind.

Over here Jag retails for similar price as the G, however if you want to lease it they want a few grand down plus a hefty monthly payment and for this they let you drive 11,000 miles a year and extra mileage charge is close to $0.16 a mile, no thanks didn't even bother going to look.

Besides Ford got a bit carried away in gifting them to many of their lousy parts that they had hanging around.

If I need an X to get that redhead, I'll stick with the blond I have at home.

Hey "Grabman", how did you know she is my first born? We are several thousand miles apart and yet I am now very concerned about her welfare.

Don't forget who brought all you guys "tongs", "thongs", "thong holders" and related accessories for the G35.
  • blueguydotcomblueguydotcom Member Posts: 6,249
Go drive one. They're quite nice in person and look nothing like a Buick. They're smaller, lean and somewhat musuclar looking. If the G had the Jag's exterior design with Infiniti's underpinnings, it'd be the biggest smash since the original miata.
