Sounds higher before TTL than in my area of OH.

Since the vehicle is not even at dealership yet, how could it come with wheel locks and pin stripes? These are just extra profit for dealer and will get you absolutely nothing back at trade in. How often do you hear of wheels and tires stolen from a minivan? If so your insurance will cover it.

Why are you accepting a color you really don't want?

I just got another quote from another dealer for $30,778.80 OTD - this is for an EX model. It's almost $2500 less than the last quote. Please advise, is this already a GREAT deal?

The price I quoted is the final price after all taxes and fees. This is the "drive away" price. I go in today to sign. Hopefully there are no 'bait & switch' tactics when I get there. I told them I'll take the silver metallic since it's the closest they have to the celestial blue metallic that we wanted.

I will update as soon as I've signed on the dotted line. :)

I have issues with my Honda van.I recently discovered that there was a class action lawsuit over the vans transmission that affects several models and models years. After doing my research on this van on google, I will certainly purchase the Toyota.

    Hi,

I am interested in this deal, can you let me know the dealer. I am in Los Angeles.
  • doglover4everdoglover4ever Member Posts: 19
We have ordered our new Odyssey and want to add pin striping but can't find this under accessories or on the build your own Honda website. Can anyone tell me where to find it and/or how much it costs. We have added mud guards and body side molding and also want to add pin striping. We saw this on one of the vans at another dealership and it had a tiny little Honda "H" on the front fender as part of the pin striping. Thanks!

Thanks everyone for great comments/posts on this site.
I bought an EX-L (No NAV/RES) on Thursday for $32,900 before tax and registration with no dealer options and 0.9% financing.
There were a LOT of people at the dealership late that night
  • nobonobo Member Posts: 305
Pin striping is a dealer installed option. Can also get it at some places where they tint the windows, but dealer probably only place that will have the striping with the little 'H".
  • nobonobo Member Posts: 305
Umm, Toyota has multiple class action lawsuits going on.
  • ckmommy2011ckmommy2011 Member Posts: 2
We bought an EX-L with RES and typical options (i.e. cargo tray, pinstripe) for $34,000 before TTL. We had negotiated $33,000 for an EX-L without RES, but we decided to go with the RES. 0.9% financing. Also got what I thought was a great deal on our trade in, 2009 EX-L with RES ($25,000)

ex-l $32,097 +TTL, just quote it online, and they give me this price.

Saleman was polite and helpful. Car is plain and w/o any pre-installed options. No hassels to get the car.

Thank this forum. I get the dealer info from previous posts.

I see from kbb that your trade in good condition with 25k miles would be about 25,800 so it sounds like you got a pretty fair deal.

Mind if I ask when you purchased your 09? How many miles at trade? What did you pay for that one new (pre-tax). I'm asking so I can get a feel for the cost/month for the term.

I can't seem to justify buying used at the moment. New 11 for 34k, trade in 4 yrs for 20k = 14k; or used 08 with 35k miles for 23k, trade in 4 yrs for 10k = 14k. Based on these figures, why not buy new...
  • adonohooadonohoo Member Posts: 1
The trade in value in 4 years might not be as high as current. We are at record highs for used.
  • scttprscttpr Member Posts: 5
You are right...current trade in values are high. But if I think a new one at invoice is a better deal than a 2007-2009 used one at an inflated price. We'll see how things turn out over time :)
  • ckmommy2011ckmommy2011 Member Posts: 2
Bought the '09 in June of that year. Had 24,400 miles on it. Purchased it for $29,500 (negotiated for days with pretty much every dealership in the metroplex) at 2.99% financing. I ended up getting $5500 more than I owed on my trade, and kept very close to the same payment for a 4 yr note with the .9% financing, so I figured I got a 2 year newer car/2 year warranty for a one year difference in payment. And we like the 2011 so much better than our 2009.
  • huha1huha1 Member Posts: 1
I think that that is very good deal. I understand settling on colors since the inventory is low in this area.

May i ask which dealer and sales person you were dealing with?
  • ndgrazndgraz Member Posts: 1
We had a very good experience price-wise two weeks ago. I initially sent out requests to the local dealerships (about 8) in the area asking for their internet prices on a new Touring. They came in much lower than I expected. The lowest for a Touring was $37,350 including destination before TTL. Naturally that dealership did not have any in stock. I went to a new delership that had 19 Ody's on the lot and found the color we liked (Smokey Topaz) with only 2 miles.

Told them I wanted it for $37,350 and they came back with $37,500 plus TTl (included wheel locks). I took the deal and picked up the car two days later. The 0.9% financing was icing on the cake. True Car Price Report shows the invoice at $38,371 and dealer cost at $37,550 in my area. Maybe our timing was just good at the end of a slow month.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Just paid $33,831 for EX-L. It was like this. Anderson Honda was the first dealer I contacted. A guy named Les got back to me and emailed me the price of $34,078. I also called Steven Creek Honda and they give me their up-front price of $33,831, but they only have 1 silver Odyssey. I went to South Bay Honda Friday afternoon and they got some vans with protective package about $650 added to MSRP price. I asked them if it can be removed, they said no. I asked them the price and they said since I am not ready to buy they wouldn't tell me, if I come back ready they will give me the price. On the drive home, I heard on radio about Joe Tran working at Anderson. Since I can speak Vietnamese and like to work with Vietnamese, I called Joe and schedule for Sat morning. Sat morning, before I went up to Anderson, I called Joe and tried to ask him what the price, but Joe didn't tell me, just wanted me to come up first. I told him Steven Creek Honda gave me $33,831. Joe said I should just go buy at Steven Creek, and if it didn't work out let him know. Then I called Les, trying to confirm the price he emailed me. Les gave me another price around $35,500. I wanted to check another dealer, so I went to Capitol Honda. Their inventory was good and there's the color I want. But the price is MSRP of $35550 plus a protective package of $1950. I said I don't want to paid for that package and willing to paid for MSRP to get the color I want. The sale guy go on about how hot the minivans are, everyone want them, so they will hold on to them until they got what they want. I just went straight to Steven Creek Honda and they still have the silver one and the price is still $33,831. I didn't even bother to haggle. Their price is up-front without any anything being added on to force me to pay more. While I was at Steven Creek checking the van out, Joe Tran called me asking if I would come to Anderson and if I was sure Steven Creek had the van or not. I told him they had one and he seemed didn't believe me. He kept calling 3 or 4 more time telling me to come over until I told him I'd decided to buy at Steven Creek. The service at Steven Creek Honda was awesome. They show me options to buy waranties and accessories, but when I said no, there's no problem, no force sale. Everything was smooth. After the paperwork, the saleman even show me how to operate the van, connect my bluetooth phone...
I really recommend everyone at Bay Area to shop at Steven Creek Honda.

is it ok to buy odyssy with 177k miles looks good did not test drive yet, has dvd, navigation etc and asking 11+k. i am kinda not sure to buy high mileage odyssy.

there are some older models (2003 - 2004) with 114k miles no whistles and bells though

as this is my 1st family van i am trying to find the good working model that comes with less problems

    Highly appreciate input.
  • blackexv6blackexv6 Member Posts: 503
    syamtunuguntla,

Stay away from used 2006 Odyssey. They have transmission / torque converter problems. The only known fix is a new torque converter for $2k. At 177k miles, you are also looking to rebuild the transmission.

Another known issue is the "active" engine mount failures. Also expensive to replace around $900.

I'd look for a lower mile Odyssey (20-40k mile range) with a factory warranty if you are fixed on Honda.

If you want reliable transportation at a low price look for a used Toyota Sienna ('04-'05). They have no known major mechanical problems.

I am lucky that I bought Odyssey last year around Memorial weekend. I am in NNJ, this is what I paid:

    $29900 (incl des)
    $2093 (NJ tax)
    $199 (doc)
    $7.50 (tire tax)
    $384 (NJ reg 4 yrs)
    OTD 32583.50
THEY ALSO GAVE ME A FREE IPAD

For 11K you can have our Odyssey van. It has 104,000 on it. :)
  • higgledyhiggledy Member Posts: 28
We have not decided on the trim grade yet. I suppose that decision depends on the final discounted price of the van. Does anyone have an idea what is a good price for and Odyssey LX or Odyssey EX? Thank you.

I would recommend that you do not purchase the ODY period. Read the posts on the forum on transmission issues. Honda lost a $90 million class action lawsuit in 2006. You can also google the ODY. The # of posts and issues with the ODY is significant over the years. Proceed with caution.
  • higgledyhiggledy Member Posts: 28
Thanks for the warning. Does the Pilot share the same transmission with the Odyssey?
  • donethat_1donethat_1 Member Posts: 66
Honda has manufactured several models of vehicles with transmssion issues as well as A/C issues, etc. If I were you, I would stay away from Honda all together. The quality is not what everyone thinks.
  • donethat_1donethat_1 Member Posts: 66
There is a difference between a class action being filed and Honda and their class action on the ODY. Honda lost their class action to the tune of $90 million. Read all of the posts and the transmission issues year over year and Honda simply walking away from customers
  • blackexv6blackexv6 Member Posts: 503
Yes, all Honda V6 Odyssey and Pilots have transmission problems.

As an update and clarification to earlier post: Our local Honda service rep tells me replacing the torque converter does not solve the judder problem. Many people are returning after 20k miles with the same issue. :lemon:

I've just started to look for 2011 Odyssey and we are wanting the EX-L in white. I've check the websites of several deals near me in Dallas and they hardly have 1-2 if any at all Odysseys. So I am wondering where are all the cars ? are they still suffering from the tsunami hit from earlier thisyear ? also since the inventory is so low how hard would it be to deal for a new one ? I am wanting to get an EX-L for about 34-35K DO. Do you guys think that this is possible ?

    Thanks

Good luck finding the one you want! We ordered ours the last week of June and are still waiting. We are hoping it will be here by the end of this month. We got an EX-L RES with mudguards and body side molding for $34,722 plus tax and fees. Some dealers we talked to would not budget from sticker but others would. We only wanted the Celesstial Blue but right now any color would look nice.

Up here in a suburb of Toronto the dealer had one or two new Odysseys on the lot and rarely more than one used usually a 2007. Late last week 3 Tourings', one EX and one LX showed up and are still there today. Also at the Toyota dealership a similar situation with Sienna one or two and now suddenly six new on the lot with one used, a 2008 LE.
It seems supply is improving quickly.

I just looked up both mine and my husbands equinox scores and they are decent! I have a 713 and his is a 702. Would we qualify for the new Odyssey financing special of 1.9% for 60 months? Should we apply jointly or just one of us? Finally, we are looking at an EX-L with res. What price should we hope for? We live in Alabama. Any advice is deeply appreciated!!
  • jlim0930jlim0930 Member Posts: 19
Looked all over DFW and the stock is very very limited most dealers just have 1 and mcdavid honda in frisco has a few but since they know that supplies are short they are not willing to negociate on the price at all. Offered 34500 OTD for EX-L which i think is a doable deal and they refused. *sigh*

when do you guys think the supply of Odysseys will pick up ? or do you think that this is a controlled supply "problem"
  • kyenedkyened Member Posts: 4
It's the same here in Houston. We got our odyssey EX-L (no RES no NAV) but with added stuffs (roof racks, wheel locks, treated leather seats etc) for $35,900 OTD. That's the best deal we got. :(

Indeed there are limited stocks of Odyssey around.

    Hi

I wonder if you can help me out please. I am looking for the exact same van. Honda Odyssey EX L with smoky topaz exterior and truffle interior. Your deal seems to be the best there is. And I am willing to drive down from KC to get the van at that price.

Can you please send me any invoice/paperwork, with your name / identifiers blocked out, so that I can use it to get the same price?

Thanks a lot. I appreciate your help and effort.

Finally found an honest straight forward Sales person Showcase Honda in Phoenix, AZ. He used to be a Chef. Finally hospitality in the car industry.

I started looking at Showcase - went to 4 other dealerships and came back to Showcase Honda. The Showcase guy explained exactly what we were in for by going and trying to find the best price. He assured us his price wouldn't be beat. Other dealerships were offering better deals, but when we went down there - it was nothing more than a bait and switch. "Yeah the price is blah blah blah - when can you come down?"

Then it was Oooohhhhh... I'm sorry I didn't pay attention, the price I gave you was for a manual transmission. or it doesn't include tint - or all the other excuses i got. Especially the..."Well you are already here, lets just do this deal, so you can be done!" OUTRAGEOUS!!! After wasting a day, we went back and talked to the Ex-Chef now Salesman and appologized for ever doubting him. He than appologized to us for the way the other dealerships treated us. Stuck to his same price, open and Honest he calls it. Never once did he give us an "I told you so" Even after we purchased the car, he still follows up with us every few weeks. Plus we exchange recipes! We can't wait to go back for the New owners dinner they have every 2 months. We hope he is cooking.

First off, I want to say a BIG thank you to everyone who posted on their experiences. AFter many months of research I finally got serious and decided that 2011 Odyssey was the best choice for our expanding family. I got hosed last time we bought a vehicle (Toyota Carlsbad) and this time I did things differently! I made all of the local delears compete against each other...got internet bids and also worked directly with a salesman at Carlsbad Honda (Hoehn) since that is where we test drove the vehicle. I got as much information regarding what these vehicles were selling for from various websites, including this one - and the TMV was a great help. Here is my deal, though I dont find it a GREAT deal, I think it was fair....seeing as stock is super low at the moment:

MSRP: 38,000+ (Dont have the exactly number handy)
    Sale price: 36,200
    Doc Prep: 55
    Sales tax: 2809
    TOTAL OTD: $39,064

Our van came with wheel locks, mud guards, cargo tray, roof rails, roof rack - exterior black and interior was grey.

I tried to get them to throw in all season weather mats and although the sales guy and his boss wanted to, the "big boss" refused. He said I had gotten the best deal in months and there was nothing else he was willing to do for me! LOL! Not so sure about getting the "best deal" but I think according to the TMV and the additional accessories, I did good - esp. for southern california. :P

    Hi

I have an offer for a Smoky Topaz EX L with truffle interior (without any mats etc) for $ 33,611. Should I buy it at this price? A few posts mention a lower price for the EX L but I cannot get this price and this van and color are difficult to find. If anyone has a lower price offer, please let me know.

Thanks for reading and your replies.

We're looking for EXL too. Saw that APR of 1.99% is available for good creditors. How to get 0.9%?-saw several posts here who got this offer. thx

Finally got serious this weekend about buying our Odyssey. I mass emailed about 20+ dealers in a 30 mile radius on Saturday night. Sunday morning I woke up to 6 phone messages and over 100 emails from various dealers! After returning emails and calls for at least an hour, most of them trying to convince me to buy a different color or have me wait, one guy "Alex" at Metro Honda in Montclair emailed me and said he could get me exactly what I wanted in less than 2 hours for a price cheaper than most other dealers. I agreed and 90 minutes I got called and told the car was there and I could come pick it up!

Silver Odyssey w/ gray interior EXL w/ RES:

    Priced: $34,900
    OTD: $38,349
Freebies: wheel locks (I didn't ask for them)

Time at dealership: about 2 hours (only because Alex was doing 2 deals at the same time)

Recommended: ABSOLUTELY! This guy hussled to get that van for us! One dealer told us there were only 5 Silver Odysseys in SoCal area on Saturday. Some dealers said they could trade for it but didn't actually do it. Most said they would notify me when that model and color came in which could be estimated 1 week to 2 months. A few dealers said they didn't have it and that was that.

I did take them up on their 1.9% financing through Honda which is available through September. Really wanted the 0.9% but it seems like you need to buy during Holidays to get that deal.

Overall, not a bad car buying experience since most of the haggling was done on the internet.

    Tartary,

Here in NJ, your $33,611 price would be considered a good price these days for EX-L. I recently shopped around (via email) bunch of nearby dealers for EX-L (no options), and I found that $33,600-$33,800 were the good prices. I ended up buying (put down a $500 deposit for end of Aug delivery) from a dealer that offered $33,000 for Smokey Topaz. Not sure why his price is $600+ lower than any other dealers, but I took the plunge. Hopefully there will be no surprises when I go into the dealership to sign the papers and pickup the car.

If you can wait 2-3 months, I'd suggest you wait for the 2012 model when inventory improves and you can negotiate a better price.
  • kadoosbuzzkadoosbuzz Member Posts: 10
I am curious...will there be a price difference between the 2011 and the 2012? We want the great financing they offer right now and it ends in September and the dealers here have told me that they won't get 2012 till October. I am wondering if we should get the exact one we want that one dealer is getting in a few weeks or wait for the 2012...any advice??
