The 6yr/120K/zero goes for $1015 - For $100 deductible is $910. Dealer maintenance program is debatable. Many dealers use it as a way to sell you more services when you go back. $300 in oil changes and maybe another $200 in car washes if you go every month?
If you took the finance you should have gotten another $500 to $750 cash from Honda Finance.
I would double check your numbers - and I would seriously think about returning the warranty (if you can figure out how much they charge you for it).
Negotiated price - EX-L $31,800 with wheel locks
Less trade (matched Edmunds)
Plus tax
Plus $180 doc fees
Less $500 Honda Finance certificates
Tags/title was to be paid at cost when it's done (I did transfer plates, but had to renew registration so it came up to $180)
Got the extended warranty 8/100/zero from Bernardi Honda $1190, and all weather mats from them as well for about $145 shipped (after their coupon for the warranty purchase).
I shopped at Planet Honda - totally deceiving dealership. They told me $30,500 over the phone but never put it in writing. In the end they would only do $31,600 but had a $400 doc fee. Princeton matched it.
Hamilton would not match it, and they include a $500 package (wheel locks, mud guards, all weather mats), almost impossible to negotiate with.
Flemington would not come close, and neither would Sussman (in PA).
If you want, send me a PM and I'll send you the email of the person I dealt with. If you go today or tomorrow you might be able to get the same or even a better deal...
#2147 Re: 2011 Odyssey Shuddering Motor Trend Article [planetarytras] by evines Jan 30, 2012 (5:53 am)
Bad driving habits don't explain why my 2012 Touring Elite is displaying this behavior after only 268 miles. In fact, I noticed it during the test ride with 2 miles on the van, but couldn't reproduce the problem until after I brought it home. This is a design flaw by Honda.
I'm looking to buy a new or newer EX-L. I know my target price if I decide to buy a 2012 but during my searches I've found some new 2011. Some have less than 100 miles on them. Prices are not that different than a new 2012. I was wondering what a good target price would be for one of these cars. Should I just go by the KBB price?
Thanks for your help!
2012 Touring Elite with Honda pro-pak (wheel locks, splash guards, cargo tray), Body Side Moulding, and Roof Rails.
Negotiated price: $40,955 before TTL and my trade, Honda cash (-$750 towards down payment)
OTD: 42,748.55 (my taxes were reduced due to my trade)
Forest Smith took good care of us! Just be sure to go over paint job at time of delivery--we were too excited. Later that day we found a nib (something under the paint) and bubbles in the clear coat on lower door trim, then read many posts on OdyClub.com about Honda's paint issues, egads! Assume will be handled by warranty, but nothing beats factory paint!
I did the same thing by asking Honda of Princeton to match Planet honda's price. Unfortunately they didn't agree. Finally I bought from Planet. Even though when I walked in their dealership, they tried to add some ridiculous package on the price, I was successful to let them remove it. Overall, My experience with planet is good.
EX-L, no RES, no NAV, Price $30800+400 doc+TTL
That's what they had started with and my problem was they wouldn't put it in writing. I know Princeton would never go that low. And Planet Honda would only put in writing 31,800. Otherwise I would have gone there to begin with.
Did you have any trade? If so, how did you do?
Issue is, Honda Care is the only one accepted at ANY Honda dealer in the US. The other ones, you have to make sure it's covered somewhere else, and you just can't take the finance manager's word for it.
It's piece of mind.
Also, just found that Hyannis Honda (in MA I think) also sells honda care at cost.
On another note...Friends, if you buy a $40K vehicle, IMHO, you must buy the ext. warranty. This vehicle has more creature comforts in it as compared to my own family room it's not even funny. I would encourage peace of mind and convenience over a few dollars any day of the week.
I am new to these forums. Thanks in advance for your assistance with the Honda Care, I asked for a quote from an internet dealer.
I did not talk trade-in with my dealer yet, but is this a good deal?
2012 Honda Odyssey EX-L w/ RES
add on:
Remote Start
Fog Lights
Roof Rack w/ Crossbars
2 dealerships are quoting me $35,100, they both say they are at invoice, and can do the 60 months @ 1.9%. I know it's the beginning of the month, but basically this is the same deal they offered me on Jan 31, 2012, and neither dealership seems to want to budge.
Thanks for any advice. Money is especially tight recently and trying to get the best deal that I can. I don't want to waste the time to drive my potential trade to both dealerships (both are over 1 hour away) but am willing to do so if it would make a big difference.
Thanks again in advance for any help.
One of the useful tools I found was to go up on USAA.com (there are other sites if you are not a USAA member...for military) and they ask you for your zip code.
Since I began in the early fall and was traveling from our house in eastern NC, to one of our daughters houses in Pittsburgh, PA and then to my brothers house in Western NY state outside of Buffalo is that if you enter various zip codes, you will get very, very different pricing from these 'direct dealer quotes'.
If you want to spend some time on putting in say 10-20 zip codes from different major areas/cities, you may see what I did, VASTLY different pricing, which is EXACTLY how I discovered the 34,075 price fo the EX-L w/Navi. Also, by doing it this way, you can 'build/price' your EXACT Odyssey on line and then, sit back and wait for them 'to come to you' with a price and then play them against each other.
I'm looking for 2012 EXL ! In VA MD NJ. ?!any help ?!
The price was $31,800 + $500 doc + TTL, which seems OK. Three dealers in the area (Alabama) all settled around this same price after I went back and forth with their internet sales departments, passing their lowest bids back and forth.
I had to use Honda Financing in order to get this price because the dealer was using 10 of their $100 certificates towards my purchase priced. So yes, it is cheaper to finance than to pay with cash. As a side note the cheapest way to do this is to only finance $5000 @ .9% for 24 months. You are then supposed to make at least three payments.
After e-mail negotiation, I picked the closest dealer, signed the papers, and walked out with an Odyssey in less than 2 hours. In this time I was also able to get Honda Care for 8 years/120k miles/$0 deductible for only $1,345 ($50 above cost). I never would have gotten Honda Care if I wasn't able to start negotiating from dealer cost, thanks to the forums for that!
The deal is: 30,250 plus tax, processing fee and tag. Processing fee is $495, tax is 3.175%, tag is around $100.
This price I believe is very low because the reaction from other dealers I stopped by.
Please respond by Tuesday, February 7, 2012 with your daytime contact information and a few words about your experience.

I had initially gotten those numbers from them, but then they started adding things and would not commit in writing to the number. I ended up at Honda of Princeton for $31,800 though $200 doc fees.
Some had mentioned they got some "pro packages" - Honda does not have any 'packages' - these are dealer add-ons. They are Honda accessories, but the dealer is usually adding them at retail with a hefty installation tag - For example, is not uncommon for the dealer to add mud guards, wheel locks and mats for $500, when these parts costs under $300 online (for OEM).
Also, Honda is doing 1.9% for 60 months. But they are giving Finance managers incentives. In January these where in the form of $250 certificates up to 3, to be used as down payment. Someone recently mentioned $100 now, but was able to use 10.
These certificates will run out as the month goes along. Get the commitment of these now, even if you push your decision towards later in the month.
Finally, Honda Care - Even if your dealer gives it to you at cost, you still have to pay cash for it. You can get it at cost at Bernardi or Hyannis and you won't pay sales tax. Of course, you can use this for negotiating and roll it in your finance...
Total OTD: $41,500. Bay area taxes are higher
Also, the dealer sold me Zurich's 96 months/100K warranty for $1250. I didn't realize then that Zurich is different from Honda Care (should have been more careful). Should I be concerned about this and cancel the Zurich plan purchased through him? :confuse:
Can someone explain to me what is ( aporeance package )?!
We were shopping for:
12 Odyssey EX-L w/ RES
Adding: Fog lights, remote start, crossbar/roof rail (all OEM)
We didn't say at the dealer, but we were going to trade an 04 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL, with 84,300 miles. New alternator, tire stems and brakes on front, relatively new Michelin tires.
Test drove 8 days ago at Honda Piazza Reading PA, liked, got an initial quote of $35,090 (w/ Destination, before tax, tags). I inquired about the $1,000 financing certificates, they really didn't respond. I inquired informally about Honda Care, mid-range plan, and they were quoting me about $500 over cost.
Thought it was a good deal, wife was hooked, but decided to reach out to Old Bridge NJ (DCH Academy Honda) and 7-8 other dealers before finalizing, since, because of you, I knew the financing certs were out there.
They offered $34,551 (including the $1,000 financing certificates built in), and a $4,500-$5,500 range for my car. I said I wanted $5,750 (Edmunds trade in was around $6,100), and we agreed to try and meet a few days ago since we were close.
Called Piazza Honda of Reading PA one last time, their sales manager all of a sudden offered $34,084 (including the $1,000 financing certificates built in), and $6,000 for my trade-in, sight unseen.
I would have dealt with John (sales manager) and Akia from Academy if we were closer to the dealership. They were very upfront with us. John encouraged us to use Piazza after getting a $6,000 trade.
Once we FINALLY got the deal we wanted from Piazza of Reading PA, they were excellent to deal with too. Our salesperson Nancy knew everything about the car, and we got to the dealer at 9:45 AM, and left 11:00 AM, all papers signed, no pressure, no add-ons, politely declined the Honda Care after they wanted to all of a sudden sell $200 or so over cost (will by from Santucci, thank you for that information too!)
Piazza ordered our vehicle Wednesday night, and it was ready (with all installs) for Saturday morning. Threw in wheel locks for good measure. I still think $6,000 was too low for my trade, but I can appreciate auction price, even if my car was kept above-average and well-maintained. Not worth it to me to try and find a buyer on my own.
Final summary:
12 Odyssey EX-L w/ RES, wheel lock, fog lights, remote start, crossbar/roof rail 35,084
Less: Trade-in (6,000)
Sales tax 6% 1,745
Doc fee, title, transfer, encumbrance, tire tax, registration 183
Honda Financing Certificate (1,000)
Total at 60 months, 1.9% 30,012
Add: Honda Care at cost, Santucci 96/120, $0 deductible 1,295
Grand total 31,307
I hope this helps someone else, as you have all helped me. Thanks again. Sorry for the long message, but again, I hope it helps someone else in the market. It took me 10 dealers before I could find the Honda Finance Certificates, but they are out there!!
$33703 base price
+ $88.28 wheel locks
- $800 Honda cash applied to my principal financed (I financed $1500, and they took it off the principal, making the financed amount $14200)
+ TTL & dealer $55 doc fee for San Diego County
= $35767.37 OTD
I didn't realize that I could have gotten $1000 in Honda Cash, so I feel kind of bummed by that, but otherwise, I feel good about the purchase.
My target OTD price was $35500 out the door, so I could have held out for that, but this dealer had my color choice in stock, so I bought there.
In addition, Consumer Reports does not recommed it, either. Just trying to save everyone their hard working money.
We bought our car from Honda of Spring in Texas.
Here is what we paid for our EX-L RES with pro package and the
door guards included.
12 Odyssey EX-L w/ RES, pro package and door guards 32,804.15
Less: Trade-in (5,500)
Sales tax 6% 1,706
Doc fee, title, transfer, encumbrance, tire tax, registration $345
Honda Financing Certificate (1,000)
Grand total $28,356.25
Hope this helps
I called same dealer and they are open to talk on same deal.
Thanks for posting this... you really saved me more than $2000.
