Before lunch 1.389 after lunch, I noticed some stations at 1.549
I did find one still at the lower price and filled up. Of course with the Prizm, that was all of 9.3 gallons so I saved a whopping $1.49, or one free gallon basically.
...about falling prices, but naturally we haven't seen much of that in Chicago. Prices aren't as high as they were at their peak (which was about $2.15 for 93 octane), but are generally at $1.789/1.879/1.979 for 87, 89 and 93 octanes, respectively.
No-name gas is $1.17/gal for regular and name gas is $1.19 to $1.22/gal. Not only do we have the best MLB team (12 straight division titles) but we have the best gas prices as well. Nobody's making anyone live in Chicago with its baseball futility and high gas prices! (just kidding)
my favorite "anticipation" time of the year because NBA and college basketball is just about to start practicing, major league baseball is at the wonderful playoff point and football is FOOTBALLIN'!!!! Whoo-hoo! Oh,gas prices in Rolla, MO, you ask? Humm, my best GUESS would be unleaded regular for about $1.39 a gallon. Let me get back to you on that, OK?
I paid 1.389 in Columbia, MO exit 128A off I-70 at the Quik Trip this afternoon. Metro STL is about 1.449 on the MO side and about a nickel to dime more in the IL metro east.
On Friday morning, there was a Quick Trip station at $1.17/gal and the Chevron across the street was $1.18. This morning, the Quick Trip was at $1.29 and the Chevron was still $1.19. Even though I had half a tank, I filled up figuring the Chevron would go to $1.34 today. Sure enough, the next time I passed the Chevron, it was $1.31. What I want to know is how can a gas station sell me gas this morning for $1.19; but, by lunch, the same gas in the ground he had this morning is now going for $1.31?
IIRC, you're in Georgia? I was gonna say, $2.79 will buy about HALF a pack of cigarettes in good ol' Chicago (regular packs are typically $4.50-6.00).
Back on subject, gas is still pretty much hovering around two bucks here (cheapy stations you can get 87 for about $1.75, 93 tops out around $2.079 at Amoco).
... at $1.499 for 87 regular in Pittsburgh, PA. Since prices here usually follow closely behind Flyer's area, I will fill up today before prices go up again.
Also, the state legislature is currently considering a 5 to 8 cent per gallon increase in gasoline tax, which would make PA have the highest gas tax in the nation.
Flyer, do you think the impending tax increase is the reason for the recent jump in your area? Unfortunately, we have a governor who never met a tax he didn't like.
Here in Duluth, GA, Chevron is going for $1.299/gal and "cheapo" gas is back down to $1.229. I filled up last weekend in Chattanooga, TN for $1.399--when gas here was $1.349 at Chevron--at a Citgo station. I was expecting the prices to be a little higher, so I was pleasantly surprised.
Town Hall is an automotive forum. There are plenty of other places online to express political views. Let's try to keep everything in its place.
Thanks...

A lot of optimists out there I guess, as the vast majority report a "decrease" in gas prices. Here in Kansas City, over the last 30 days, gas prices started out at about $1.45, then they went up over the course of those 30 days to about $1.70, then the headed back down to $1.43 today. So...if I look at from date A to date B (as an optimist), the prices have "decreased". If I look at the average price I paid over the course of those 30 days, the price most definately increased. One day, gas prices went up by .15 cents a gallon. With Thanksgiving approaching, I definitely feel a "shortage" coming on, with an increase in supply to follow long about December 1, bringing the prices back down for about another 20 days before the next shortage.
Sunoco truck stop, Palisades Park, NJ - I've been going here for almost 8 years... you may have noticed I had been hitting the Mobil in Hackensack the last few weeks; the guy at the Sunoco said to me "Hey! It's been a while!"
Strange times here in State College, PA. The price for 87 had been hovering in the $1.47 - $1.49 range for a few weeks. I expected some kind of move for the Thanksgiving/first day of deer season weekend, and sure enough it occurred...
Some of the stations dropped to $1.45... and some raised to $1.53
Beats me!!! LOL
Oh yea... I also had a nice experience at a small USave station in Midland Park, NJ last weekend. 87 was $1.47 and the proprietor came out, started to fill me up and asked, "Do you want me to check the oil?" It was fine, but I was surprised.... THEN he got his squeegee and cleaned the front AND rear windows... and did it VERY well. My kids were asking, "Why is he doing that???" I decided right then and there I was going to leave him a tip, since I knew the fill up would be close to $20. It came out to be $17.40.. and when I told him how pleasantly surprised I was at the service and said "Keep it", he said it was just his way of getting exercise and he gave me back $2... he literally kept only the change and smiled as he wished me a nice day. Kind of like a trip in a time machine!!
...about PF's story above, NJ (like Oregon) does not permit self-serve, and there are still lots of Mom-and-Pop stations like the one he encountered, where they really do deliver on the name "service station". I work just a few miles from Midland Park, and we have lots of such stations around north NJ like that.

Meanwhile, Lukoil, the Russian oil conglomerate bought Getty! Putin was in NY last week and went to the opening of one of their gas stations.

And we do have rigs aplenty off our shores. They're also great fishing reefs.
Maybe you guys on the left and right coast should allow more drilling. It sure would help when negotiating with OPEC.

Might be interesting to make a chart of the different prices being reported here to see if they have the same shape across the country.
