Stations all around town run between $1.20 and $1.29 a gallon for 87. I filled up at a BP station for $1.21/gal. Not too shabby.

The Union 76 on Lake Murray Boulevard and San Carlos Road is selling 91 for only $1.59, and 87 for $1.49. I read the station is changing hands tomorrow (Friday), and the owner just wants to get rid of what gas he has. It's been months since I've seen premium for under $1.60 in San Diego County.

Arco still seems to be the low-price leader around here. The one near my place (Pomerado/Miramar and the 15 freeway) is selling 91 for the high $1.70's.

I filled up at a nearby Citgo station on Tuesday, and paid $1.599 for 87 octane. Last time I filled up was on New Year's Eve, and that time I paid $1.419. Before that, I think it was down to $1.399 for a bit.
  • wilcoxwilcox Member Posts: 582
The dad-blamed gas prices are up a good bit here!

Premium 93 at most stations fetches $1.69. I got me a tankful of 93 yesterday @$1.59...lucky me...

I had to go to the far south suburbs (Steger) of Chicago and almost ran out of gas. Thought I'd make the trip (~3 miles) down to Will County to save off Cook County tax. I ended up paying $1.959 for 93 octane at BP/Amoco, which I swear is the same price we pay on the north side of Chicago (with city and county tax). I was none too pleased.

Mobil, NJ 4 West, Hackensack NJ... diesel up to $1.579 - 8 cent spike from last week.

Must be cold outside - home heating oil demand (same raw fuel as diesel) usually causes such spikes in winter.

I just filled up my wife's car at the BP/Amoco in Shorewood by I-55 and it was $1.759 for 87 octane. Don't remember what 93 was.

The average price for 87 octane is between $1.63 and $1.68. We are just northwest of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

That was our local story last week. It really isn't bad, this is what's called "added value". The oil companies are getting exhausted changing the gasoline prices on their signs everyday. It is taking too long for them to take "all" of your money, so this speeds up the process.

Try $2.03 for 87 here in Honolulu, HI. Premium averages around $2.17 for 92. The other islands, Maui, Kauai, etc. are even higher (up to $2.20 for 87). The local Costco is the cheapest at $1.83 for 87 and $1.99 for 92 if you are a member.
  • just4fun2just4fun2 Member Posts: 461
It maybe more expensive there, but you get much better gas mileage in Honolulu than we get in Cleveland. It is 30 degrees here (our high) and I believe that your low tonight will be 72 degrees.

Much rather pay 30 cents more a gallon and enjoy that Aloha Spirit. Mahalo.

Where do you live (with the $1.99 cigarettes)? Fortunately, I don't smoke, but here in good ol' Chicago, smokes at gas stations are ~$5/pack ($5.50 in the machine at my bar). Oh yeah, and Cook County just raised the tax from the current 18 cents to $1.00 a pack. Cough, wheeze, gasp.

To keep things on topic, gas here is the usual ~$1.75ish for 87, hovering slightly less than $2 for 93 octane.
  • iluvmysephia1iluvmysephia1 Member Posts: 7,709
I paid $1.47 for 87. Something's keeping it down now but I have the silliest feeling that it's gonna spike in a few months. Maybe it's that news report a few weeks ago talking about $3.00/gallon gas this summer. Eeek!

Getty in Phillipsburg, NJ is selling regular for 1.469! Next cheapest price is USA gas, Hess and Pilot(at a truck stop) for 1.519 for regular

$1.47 for regular 87 no-lead, again. Kind of a nice, fairly decently-priced little holding pattern for this small Ozarks city right now!

Just two weeks ago it was $1.73.9 a gallon for 87 octane. On the way home this evening I noticed my local Mobile has gone up to $1.97.9 for the same 87 octane just in time for the weekend! Guess I won't buy that Chevy Tahoe I was planning on and stay with my Honda for a while longer. I'm a little concerned where this is going!!
  • rhodges2rhodges2 Member Posts: 8
On my way home tonight the same Mobil station raised their prices from $1.979 to $2.039 in one day! What's going on here? Is somebody playing games? OPEC? The local gas station owners? the government? All of the above? Is it time to seriously consider a Hybrid or an electric car? Somebody say it ain't so!!
  • supratunersupratuner Member Posts: 9
I lived there a few months ago and gas prices were I think $1.80 which doesn't seem as much as where rohdges2 lives. I will move back there one day. Though 15 I think I have to wait a lil'. Gas prices will go higher. My dreams are to have a Supra and live their one day. Well really I think it will be my destiny. Great minds have purposes and others have dreams. Keep that in mind.
  • supratunersupratuner Member Posts: 9
Personally I think truck, vans and suvs eat up to much gas. I will stick to the Sports car even though some eat up a good amount of gas to I think. Am I right?

Cheapest 91 I can find right now is $2.23 in SF Bay Area. Jumped about 40 cents in a month.
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
Wow, that's worse than Chicago. We're at about $1.99 for 87 in most places, about $2.189 for most 93 octane at BP on the north side.
  • eharri3eharri3 Member Posts: 640
In years past when we had price hikes, gas station owners would go on TV and play innocent and tell people not to get mad at them because of price hikes, the suppliers increase the price and they adjust accordingly so they can still afford to stay in business.

But Im thinking, if this is true and they're as innocent and helpless in this matter as they claim, why do I sometimes see as much as a 10 cent difference of the price of gas at two stations as little as 2-3 blocks apart? What is it about the cost of doing business that changes over those 3 blocks that makes the difference necessary?
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
and it's always right before Spring, when most of us finally wanna get out and travel. This sounds more like classic supply and demand (with a large dollop of collusion between fuel suppliers and retailers) than anything more complicated like production or politics.
  • iluvmysephia1iluvmysephia1 Member Posts: 7,709
I paid $1.56 for 87 tonight at Casey's General Store in little 'ole Rolla, MO, today. This is 7 cents a gallon more than my last fillup early in the weekend. It's happening...duh-da-duh-da-duh-da....picture a large shark swimming precariously up towards you with very large teeth! Come on, guys, summer's not even close to being here yet and you're starting the gouging process! How much profit is ENOUGH profit? Small cars! Small cars! Small cars!

Doesn't take long for upward pressure to hit the pumps... just wish it would work as fast in the other direction!

$1.699 for 87 in State College, PA
  • bottgersbottgers Member Posts: 2,030
Usually the gouging doesn't start until just before Memorial Day weekend, but apparently it's started already. Gas prices here in Cheyenne WY have risen .25 a gallon over the last 2 weeks. I guess digging their grubby little hands deeper into consumer's pockets for the entire summer isn't good enough anymore. Now they have to start BEFORE spring even arrives. I am so sick of big oil companies and OPEC deciding just how much we will pay for gas. I really wish the auto industry would step up the R&D on alternative powered vehicles. In fact, if there was a hybrid available right now that met the needs of my family, I'd buy one. I'll be the first in line to buy a hydrogen powered vehicle if they make it into production! If the auto industry could start producing these vehicles in large numbers, THIS would dictate what the price of gas would be instead of OPEC.

in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, ranged from 79.5 cents per litre to 85.5 cents per litre.

    87 Octane: CAD 79.5 cents/Imperial litre
               CAD $3.01/gallon
                US $2.27/gallon

    A rundown 40 year-old fixer-upper 3 bedroom house in Vancouver costs approx. $500,000 CAD.

    suddenly, gas isn't so expensive.

(at least cars are cheaper to buy in Canada than in the U.S.)
