I got a few extras like lifetime tires, mudguards, and some "care" package (basically free detailing, cleaning, etc. every 6 mos. for 3 yrs).
This site has been great to get ideas and price info and I guess I will gush some more when I actually see the vehicle. I did the whole deal via phone & internet.

I think he said he emailed like 30 dealers. So you have a little more work to do. Normally LA area has better prices thna the SF bay area and if you go back few days ago, someone here got an Ody for $610 above invoice. So I would aim for at least that much. Heck, start with $300 above invoice and see if you get any takers as it's close to month end and people will need to have certain sales goals they need to meet.

The funny thing is, most of the dealers in the list for my zip show an internet contact, but there's no email given for those people. So you have to click through to the dealer website and find one there. Some dealers in my area don't have websites!

Four months ago when I started getting price quotes, CA dealers were all sticking by MSRP or MSRP plus. I even got quotes from Ohio to perhaps ship one over at $800 shipping cost - they were selling at $2K below, so I'd still come out ahead.
Yesterday my wife's co worker bought one here in SF area for almost $2200 off MSRP, with a little coaching from me (hey, have to feed my bloated ego somehow), so that shows how far the prices has come down here in the past 4 months.
As for finance guy, you illustrated a point I have always point out to new buyer - ask before you get to the dealership what type of financing payments they accept. Don't want to show up and find that they don't take whatever you have and you have to do things on their terms. For example, not everybody likes to work with people first drafts.
As for the loan, I'd refinance if I were you. $300 is enough to buy cargo tray or whatever accessories you want to buy.
Any rate, I believe you have the best deal I have seen so far on this board, until hislander in previous posts gets his $3K off tomorrow, maybe.

2 - If you're from bladnfordm's relatives area in Atlanta, then some dude bought from AL and had it shipped to ATL for free. Look at that post from last week.
3 - Sounds like you got $1500 off MSRP as quote. Most people get quotes from up to 20 dealerships in the 100 mile radius, so you can expand your search. Look at my post in 3825. We used to be at MSRP+ here in CA 4 months ago. Now we have $2200 off due to month end big sale.
4 - Speaking of which, dealerships/salesmen tend to be more aggressive in discounts at month end with internal sales quotas/targets. So keep that in mind in your negotiations. Ask for sky and settle for the moon. Go back and ask for another $1K off and see what you get. Your job will be a lot easier if you have more than 1 dealership willing to discount so you can go back and forth.
5 - when you say you have "no vehicle" as in you have nothing at all? If so, then you better make that 15 phone calls/email ASAP and try to get the deal done the next few days by month end to see if you find any bargains.

Out the door price means nothing to anybody outside of your area as sales tax is 8.25% here in San Jose. 6% elsewhere in another state or 0% in some states with no sales tax. So in a $27K van, that makes for a big difference.
Just quote the $$ off MSRP or price above invoice you got so it's easier comparison for people to help you.
1. Are you saying the dealer offered you $26,360 total, as in out the door/ drive out/ final cost including any sales tax, title, and any fees? If so, and depending on what your sales tax is, that sounds like a good price. I've got quotes from several Honda dealers near Atlanta for a new 2003 Odyssey EX cloth, and the best I've gotten to include 6% sales tax (about $1,500), title, and fees is $26,998. If you're saying that is just the cost of the van before tax, title, etc. that does not sound like a good price and I recommend you contact a lot more dealers and get them to compete for your business by following the advice from the web sites I sent you before. If you want even more advice than from those web sites, one I should have sent you is right here at Edmunds.com:

It has good info. I particularly like the "Confessions of a Car Salesman". I found it extremely interesting. Edmunds paid a writer to go 'under cover' as a car salesman for I think about 6 months. Afterwards, he wrote a detailed account of the tricks and tribulations of the trade.
2. Like Harryfat asked, where are you trying to buy a car? If you post this, you can probably get at least a couple people who post here to say where they got a deal from in the area. And you may be able to go to that dealer and say someone told you they got $____K price from that dealership, and can they give you the same or better?
As far as the Edmunds TMV goes, if it is still saying TMV is about $200 under MSRP, I don't recall anyone posting a message to this board since the 2004 Sienna came out that said they only got $200 under MSRP. That was true before the 2004 Sienna came out. But since then, Honda dealers have been making significantly larger discounts than that- usually at least $1K or more off and up to $2K off MSRP.
Also like Harryfat said, I don't understand why dealers make such a huge deal of trying to move cars at the end of the month, but if you can dedicate some time on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at getting a car, you may end up with a better deal than if you wait until the first of May. Or maybe not. Just try not to buy unless the price is right for you.
Again though, if you are desperate for a car, don't let the dealers know- they may be less likely to deal because they believe you have to buy whether the price is good or not. Instead, just let the dealers know you are ready to buy right away and that if they can beat the other dealers' offers, you'll give them a quick sale before the end of the month.
One other thing to consider is financing. The dealer can probably give you a good rate as long as your credit is good. But you should at least know what a good rate is. Read the info on the web sites listed in my last post. If you're interested in seeing what you can get outside a dealer for financing, you can go to:

Type in your info and you should get at least a couple lenders make you an offer on financing within a day or so. One that very well may make an offer to you is PeoplesFirst.com. Consumer Reports said they are the largest on-line auto loan lender. If you decide to go with them, they offer a .25% discount below their normal rates to Costco customers- so you could get to them through that avenue also, if you are or could sign up to be a Costco customer.
Actually lapvn is the one who started this whole $1.99 convrsation mirror thing as some peopel cite that as a buying criteruia for choosing an Sienna over Ody. Whatever flaots your boat, I guess. I'm the diaper man. Per my calculation, the $4K I saved in not getting the Sienna is enough to buy my soon to be born new son 100 plus boxes of diapers at costco, along with formulas/wipes, etc.
In all seriousness, money is money. So if you can save $300 to refinance, do it. That's the same as paying extra $300 to the salesman because he is a "nice guy". Money in your pocket is better than money in someone else's pocket. Unless you want to contribute $300 to the "Harryfat's baby diaper fund", then that's a different story...

And as far as wheel-locks, make sure that you want the add-ons in the first place and that you can't find them for substantially cheaper from outside the dealer. Dealers often sale add-ons, but give you no selection to choose from and charge you significantly more than you can get it elsewhere. Often with add-ons, you can go somewhere after you get the vehicle, and get the add-on for a fraction of what you pay at dealer and often and get a large variety to choose from. And if you were to pay the same price for the add-on as you would at the dealer, you get substantially higher quality. Dealers often have only one thing in mind when saling you an add-on: more profit that they can make off of you. So I try to avoid them.
And again, only compare total drive-out cost between dealers. One dealer will say he's saling to you for $1,000 under MSRP but he does not tell you (1) the real price is under the MSRP of the vehicle plus a bunch of add-ons that you don't want or need and that he is gouging you for real value of the add-ons and (2) that he is not counting the "doc fee" or "processing fee" that is several hundred dollars and may be less at another dealer.
BTW: we were number 2 in the top 10 posts yesterday. Must have been a really slow day when I alone accounted for over 30% of the posts...
I would email blast as many dealers you can to find a good price. Dealers in other parts of the country are doing $2200 off MSRP. Good luck.

With all due respect to Edmunds and its TMV, I think it's not that useful in a fast moving price situation like the Odyssey pricing. I just typed in TMV for my zip code and it's still only showing $500 off MSRP for CA. I was getting more than that 1 month ago and prices have come down even more since than. Now were' looking at $2200 off. TMV is good for a more stable pricing cars, but it's a "lagging indicator" for the Ody pricing.
I thought I read some dude posting about 3 weeks about PA pricing. You may need to read 150 posts back into the archives to get that post.
You should contact as many dealerships as possible. What you hope to get is dealer number 2 will come in at lower price than $26,360 and then you go back to number 1 and say dealer number 2 is lower, can you beat that? Since you already have 1 firm quote, spend your time getting other quotes before going back to the original guy so that you're not wasting your time or the salesman's time if that quote isn't even within the 3 lowest quotes in your 100 mile plus radius.
Andrew can hook you up with a Honda parts on line store that sells you the Honda parts at a fraction of what the listed prices are on the Honda/dealerships. I believe the wheel locks costs like $20? Isn't floor mats standard on the EX? I know mine came as standard for the EX-L and nothing "free" came with my van.
I think the biggest issue is when you say you have no vehicle. So are you struggling to get around the area without a car or are you renting one? It's very easy for me to sit here in CA with my own van and say "Yeah, look for the lowest possible price", but if you and your family are unduly burden without ANY vehicle, then it seems to me you have to weight the usefulness of getting a vehicle now versus saving few hundred dollar in couple more months.
Just like buying computers, the price of vans will likely get cheaper with passage of time, but you can't just sit there forever waiting for that price drop if you don't have another viable alternative. People like momstruck can afford to wait as she has an existing lease that won't expire until months down the road. So weight your family's situation accordingly as we can't make that call for you.

idx, if you have no problem jumping onto 78 and head east you may contact me and I will at least give you all of my experiences with all the dealers as far South as Princeton, as far West as Stroudsburg and as far North as Middletown, and anything East of the Hudson.
The deals I received were a little bit more easy to compare since they did not include any aftermarket DEALER installed options. Made it easier to understand what I was getting and in comparing pricing. Once you start adding other items, makes the math a bit funny since pricing will be different.

You are roughly getting an offer of 1.5% over invoice, $26,402.
Then add in your tax and we get $27,986.
BUT if your out the door price is $28,000, this means the dealer is getting less than 1.5% since my numbers above only account for pricing and tax. It did not include any Title and License. So if you were to look at your offer in a different way, it is $2458 below MSRP (before tax,title, license). I say you did pretty good.
The cassette player you can get for like $130 or so (self installed), so the offer of $28300 is in the ballpark with installation.
Hey if you can get them to lower it to $28,000 with the cassette then why not. Just curious, if you want a cassette, did you look into upgrading the vehicle to the RES trim? It also comes with the cassette and maybe for a bit higher price you get the DVD, just a thought.
My wife's co worker just bought the EX-L Saturday for $26,688, which is $2172 off the MSRP of $28,860. This is the same area that wouldn't give me the time of day 4 months ago when I asked for $200 off.
Seeing Portland is just a cheap $59 Southwest flight down, maybe this can be your last option if you want to save some money and fly down on a early flight Saturday morning and have someone from the dealership pick you up at the airport and you'll be on your own back home on 101/5 by mid morning. Just a thought.

Savvy? You mean we're savvy buyers? I thought it was dumb luck that we got the savings...
Like I said, the TMV is a lagging indicator in that accumulates the past info (monthly) per your post. In a fast moving pricing situation, the TMV isn't as useful as some other cars where the price is fairly stable. But I'm sure 12 months ago when the Odys were at the premium, the TMV is a solid number month to month.
Just like NASDAQ stock prices, last month's info is already outdated info. Just wanted to point this out to other potential buyers who are looking at TMV or carsdirect for price quotes. Both are still showing Odys at a much higher price than anybody can get from 1 email request to a dealer here in SF/SJ area. For example, with my zip code, a EX-L is showing on carsdirect right now at $1100 off. TMV on Edmunds has it at $521 off.
My wife's coworker got his van over on Saturday with 3 email quotes and all are $1800 plus off and he went with the $2172 off.
So is savvy buying or dumb blind luck on being at the right place at the right time?

So I am going to be seriously targeting for the end of MAY to get the car. Im in Staten Island, NY and I am hoping someone here knows some good places to send emails to around the NY/NJ areas THE RIGHT WAY.
I walked into OR Honda in RT1 NJ and test drove the Ody EXL, then the usual pitch came from the manager $1300 off msrp. $27,560.00. If I did the deal yada yada, etc. He mentioned end of month sales, etc. + Tax / Doc Fee $140 /and usual DMV.
So I was wondering since Im reading the Big Drops 2200 / 2000 off MSRP Im going to shop. Im in no rush. BUT I WANT TO DO IT RIGHT WHEN I SEND OUT MY OFFER/QUOTE REQUEST VIA EMAIL. Can anyone assist?

As for your offer, well let me start with this. I get confused when people tell me "out the door" price. This doesn't tell me what price they paid for the car, which more important to me. The tax, well if you live over at Andrewtrans area you get the pleasure of paying 3.25%, for me here in NJ I get the average 6% deal. So to me the only price that really counts is the exact price you paid for the car.
Now to your numbers. If you are looking to pay $26,600, then I think you are asking for a fair deal. The works out to be around 2.25% over invoice, or $1860 below MSRP. You certainly aren't far from the ball park figure of what everyone is asking for. After all, we have seen some posting as high as $2500 below MSRP to as low as $1000.
