Well, then you just need to trade in your Odyssey when the '05 Odyssey comes out and then get the NAV:-)
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
My aunt in California just can't seem to understand why in the world I prefer NAV over DVD RES? Well, the NAV is a must--we all know that:-)
And the DVD RES, the dealer can install that with the DVD player into the front dash (in place of coin box). So why not get both DVD RES and NAV?
You just can't do the reverse and get RES first!

In Dallas? The going rate there should be $2,500 off MSRP now. But I would go for $3K since someone out there has already gotten $2.8K off!

Harry, you need 13 posts in a row to feel like me:-) I love my new shinny Odyssey. I enjoy it everyday just looking at it. Believe it or not, I treat my Odyssey even better than I treat my Lexus.
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
Harry, I just might have to trade in my Ody and get the '05 Ody for $2 under invoice so that I can be King of the Hill:-)
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
My wife loves the Ody. She also loves her VHS tapes. So we added a VCR under the left 2nd row seat with a T.V. Tuner. Now there's a cool looking antenna on the left side of the Ody. It's call keeping up with the Jones---one of our friends has an Ody with DVD, VCR, and TV Tuner. Now we have NAV+DVD+VCR+TV Tuner:-)

Harry, not a big deal because I'm "not shopping" for the time being, but I noticed this week that Dublin's changed their website and you can't access their new car inventory search to see "how many TONs of Odys" they have on the lot. I guess they wised up and got tired of everybody lowballing their offers, using thier high inventory as a negotiation tool and knowing we could do all our business from the comforts of home without stepping foot into their "shark-infested" showroom! Now, is that the way they should be running their business? No biggie, I can wait!

A dealer here in Orange County has three EX's listed for $25,886 - seems like a pretty good price right now. What do other SoCal buyers think?
  • alsmomalsmom Member Posts: 4
I've been looking for a few weeks and the best I've seen is $200 over invoice. That was for 2 vans they had on their lot. They wanted $500 over to bring one in for me in a different color. I've been looking at EXL-RESs in the San Diego area.

yeah most def on getting a nav next time around
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
    Dude,

You have to start numbering the posts when you post your editorial as you do it 4 days after the fact. I don't even remember what I had for dinner last night, how can I know what you are referring to? I just know my dinner wasn't Korean because I know you NAV couldn't point me to a good Korean food around here.

Post 3962 - They can say whatever and we can say whatever. The nature of these forums has it that people will be bias. That's a given. As long as we recognize our own prejudice when we make certain statements, I have no problems. It's just when they start say we the Ody owners are "bashing," their beloved Siennas but when they make statements like Sienna is the most luxurious van in the world, much better than the Ody in everything under the sun, I would label that bashing as well. Classic case of pot calling the kettle black.

Post 3963 - If you get Odys at $2 below invoice, you be the new king of the hill by whopping $3 over the current record holder. Until you start using blandfordm's fees calculations, then who knows where you might be.

Post 3967 - seeing it's Sunday night, I can post 50 messages without anyone else responding if I wanted to. But I don't like to listen to myself talk/type...

Like I said to many Ody buyers here the past month, prices are dropping by the day. Whatever you are getting today is unheard of 4 months ago...
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
Maybe someone at Dublin Honda actually might be reading this forum or someone reads this forum goes and tells Dublin that we are talking about them.

Whatever the case, they are changing their way of doing things. In the weekend paper, they claim they only have 14 Odys now. Who knows what's going on with them? You still looking for your black NAV?

Once you get it, maybe you can tell where's good Korean restaurant in the East Bay as Andrew's NAV is not talking to me...
  • ltdan1ltdan1 Member Posts: 3
    To alsmom:

I would appreciate it if you would let me know what dealers you got those prices from...I am hoping to buy in the next week or so...

    Thanks...
  • kksdadkksdad Member Posts: 28
My two favorite topics.........let's see, since this IS a car chat site, first things first: I just spent $300 on my Ford last week after the guy at Dublin "ignored" my original counter, which was AFTER I ignored HIS, bringing it down from $1,500 to $900/over. Hindsight, it was a good thing, I would have bite if he met my $500/over, and look, now, it's down to $1/2 bucks over! I feel I'm still "ahead of this game" and can wait it out for as long as it takes, hell, I've already waited tWO years!!! Somebody just got a good deal there, recently/last weekend, right? I'm not too hung up on black, it's still my first choice, but I rather have one of those $1 over/under prices, I'll take one of those anyday!

Now, to food: On oposite sides of Post St in SF, near the Miyako Hotel in Japantown are two of the best Korean restaurants around, Korean House and Seoul Garden, but unfortunately you got to get yourself into the City. Then, there's the Sorabol "chains" at the malls, I like the one at the Marketplace food court in Emeryville, good food/huge portions/reasonable prices! You can get a lot of Kal-bi plates for what I'm NOT spending on a new Ody!
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
Harry, the NAV will tell which restaurants are available within the vicinity or City, but it won't say which is a good resturant and how much is the usual dish. Maybe the next Odyssey NAV will tell us:-)
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
You know your food. The Korean restaurant I went to in OKC is also called Korean House, but I bet it's nothing like the one in SF.
I think the Odyssey is the best looking minivan out there--a lot better looking than the Sienna. The shape of the Odyssey is just awesome--a masterpiece. We made the right decision on getting the Odyssey as the Sienna is just not good looking, and looks are very important since we will be looking at the thing for another 10 years?
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
I was working Saturday and Sunday and I'll be off Tuesday so I will miss out then.
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
Dude, two years is a very long time, but it certainly paid off getting your Ody at such a low price! I bet with the '05 Ody, you won't be getting it for more than $1K off MSRP, if that much.
  • dad16dad16 Member Posts: 35
Back when I purchased my Ody 4/19 at the Dublin dealership the fleet Mgr. said the owner was going to be changing the web site design. The mgr also said that the dealer's owner did not want to post inventory. Its a mistake , but thats the reason.

Harryfat, I took my Ody back in to have the splash guards installed and boy do they work well. They are nothing fancy, but with the rain in our neck of the woods lately I have had the opportunity to try the van with and without and they keep a lot of extra splash and debris off the sides. I had negotiated for these up front and the dealer matched the handa-accessories price. Since I purchased the van for my wife on her B.-day we had to take it home that day, hence the return trip to the dealer.
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
Some people thinks by posting inventory, they can get the people to look at the van and say "hey, they have the black NAV that I want, let me email them". Or in Dublin's case, since they had 30 plus vans, it might work to their disadvantage as then people will use that in negotiation.

But some dealers still does it, like San Leandro, Steven Creek and Livermore and many other Honda dealers still lists all their vans on the web site.

Oh, well, just one more hurdle as you deal with them.

What was the price you were charged on the mud guards?
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
If you are happy with the price, then you can either:

1 - Tell the lowest price dealership that you want on color only and have them call you when it gets in.

2 - Check with other dealerships that have the color you want and see if they will price match.

When we got our Ody in March, my wife was not willing to be "color blind" so I did both of the tactics listed above until the dealership finally made a trade with someone at no charge to me as I told them I am emailing others and getting price matches elsewhere.

With the new Sienna out, the Ody dealers should be very willing to cut a deal. If nothing else, wait until you're close to month end and someone will find you a color you want. Good luck.

You really do put me to shame. You get your wife a car for her Birthday. Please, do me a favor, don't come near my wife and mention that.

Anyway, I posted my review of Zaino, just to remind you. Maintenance forum
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
    Dude,

How about providing the rest of us with a link or at least a post number. There's like a zillion Zaino posts, how do we know which one is yours?

Or a Ebert style quick review? Thumbs up or Down?
  • dad16dad16 Member Posts: 35
I paid $60. Handa-accessories has them for $58.80. Did you ever get a Extended Warranty? The van is not here now, but seems to me there are only three screws that hold each one in place.
  • dad16dad16 Member Posts: 35
I've been following the post over there. Thanks for the update. I am going to use a sealant so I don't need to do all those steps every few months. What did you think of using the clay? Is it worth it on a brand new car?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
and my clay bar is a nice "gray" color.

    ...must not get... sucked in....

Sorry Sal, no order this week :-).

I think clay bars are great for new cars, Dad16. Often there's rail dust and other contaminates from the shipping that the clay will get out. Makes the sheet metal feel nice and smooth.

Has any one purchased a sun shade for an Ody? I know that heat shield makes one that is sold on the handa-accessories site, but I am wondering if anyone has tried it and how is the fit. Any other reccomendations? I have several around from other large cars and none of them are close to fitting an Ody front windshield. Any suggestions?
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
You have to remember that my first wash yesterday was using the Dawn detergent, after that, I used the clay bar. The clay bar I thought at first was a gimmick. I thought to myself what can this little bar do. Anyway, it did pick up some debri which surprised me since after all, I just wash the car 25 minutes ago. Then when I re-read everyone's post and also expect the bar to get dirty grey, then this bar will last a while. For the amount of usage you get out of it, I think it is worth it. Actually it is the same for all their products, since they are concentrate, you get lots of use out of it. I only used 1 once yesterday and I was able to do the Ody twice.

Now only if I could find a product that keeps my tires nice and wet look. Armor all doesn't impress me anymore, neither does Wet Tire.
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
So did they charge you for the time to install the mud guards for you even though you didn't it buy it from them?

When you say "sun shield", I assume you're talking about them things you put underneath your windshield after you parked the car and to keep the car cool?

I don't like the the bulky folding fan types, so I got the cheap ones from Wal-Mart for $10 that folds into itself. the only drawback is that even though it says it supposed to fit the Odyssey at "super jumbo" size, they lied. It's too big. So I'd think Jumbo size will do it.
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
So how much did this Zaino thing set you back? And how often do you have to do it?

So does that mean you can go over to the other Ody versus Sienna board and say, "With the money I saved in buying an Ody versus the Sienna, I can buy X bottles of Zaino"...
  • dad16dad16 Member Posts: 35
I had negotiated at the time of my purchase, several items one of which was splash guards. I wanted the dealer to match handa-acc. prices as part of the deal. I figured I'd pay about $600 over invoice if I could save a couple of hundred dollars on the cost of accessories and some more dollars on the extended warranty. I did not pay to have the splash guards installed, but I did pay to have the cassette deck installed. I basically got a bunch of accessories for hand-acc. prices which is what dealers show as their cost on a cost sheet I saw. I was actually charged $ 2 or 3 dollars more per item as a handling charge by the parts dept. I was going to have to pay shipping so I figured it was about a wash.

On the dealers price sheet there is actually a $20 charge to drop the cargo tray in. I would guess the splash guards could be installed in about 30 minutes or less if the installer had no experience. There are two pre-marked holes or indents under the wheel wells where two screws go and the third secures the other side of the flap. I didn't read the directions from handa-acc., but looking at them after they have been installed it sure looks easy.

It's sort of like this, Zaino is like a drug, cigarettes, coffee, Edmunds Town Hall, or what ever your hearts desire. Once you do this, you can't go back. It's worst than a religious cult because you got yourself into it. My first purchase rough me up for $75, and the second one I am placing this week for another $25.

However, this stuff is concentrate, so you use very little. The clay, wash, polish, are pretty expensive, but you use very little.

The first day was a killer, my thighs and back are aching. After that, you apply it like any other wash and wax stuff, just use very little. Then to make sure it shines you do a first day process one more time before winter.

I think this is just for weirdo's like me who wants to keep a shiny car as long as they can. I also have friends that prefer to do other things besides clean the car. I can't say this is for everyone, but if you are like me, you'll like this stuff.

Steve, I heard more about Zaino so I went with the population. Couldn't read too much on Mothers or that other one. Any input? Sorry this should be a prices paid forum.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
So if you do the math, an average car wash will run you about $20, so I figure about 5 washes I am even, not including labor cost. But if I were to put value into the labor, lest just say at 6 washes I break even, the rest is pure profit on buying this stuff.

It is up to you if you want to put the time and effort, and money first, to get a shiny car.

I have friends that are just happy to bring it to a car wash. I am happy to do this only during the winter, during the warm days, I prefer to do the job myself.

I use to take the seats out so I can vacuum underneath them, now that is weird.
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
you gotta be kidding me - $20 to drop in a cargo tray as installation cost?

I think there's "just a slight profit" margin in that installation process, don't you?

I'll look into the mud guards maybe when I bring in the Ody in later on in the summer for the first oil change. I'll be the only weirdo asking about mud guards on July 4 when it's 95 degrees....
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
    All right,

I know you guys are out in the Zaino world, but if you're going to talk Zaino to us neophytes, please explain just the basic terminology:

1 - What's Mothers? I assume this ain't the "Mother of All Wars" or "Mother's Day is this Sunday"
    2 - What's Clay Bar?

Will someone just walk through the process for us in 100,000 words or less? What you do first and what you're supposed later on? Just a brief steps A to Z will be appreciated by all the people who just bought their Odys and would like to keep it looking great, but don't have the patience/time to read/understand the Zaino vocab.

    Thanks.

Mudguards - I just put them on myself this weekend. Very simple, if you can use a screwdriver you'll be fine. Took about 20 minutes tops to do all four - 3 screws each.

    To harryfat:
    >1 - What's Mothers? I assume this ain't the "Mother of All Wars" or "Mother's Day is this Sunday"

I'm sure they're talking about the brand "Mothers" <http://www.mothers.com/> which makes car waxes, detailing products, etc.

    >2 - What's Clay Bar?

A bar that's used to removes buildup on your paint. Go to this website for an explanation: http://www.properautocare.com/usclaybartor.html
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Lapvn, yeah, Zaino'll suck you right in if you aren't careful. Some people get by with an order under $30 or so, but I think the average order is closer to $90. It does last a long time on the paint and on the shelf.

Shifterkart has it right; sorry about the shorthand. Mother's made my wax and my clay bar and you can just buy a bar for around $10. You are supposed to "apply" it with some spray lube, but I've had good luck with rubbing it on the paint while running the hose.

The quick version for non-Zaino is to wash the car, then gently rub the clay bar over the sheet metal. This isn't hard; the hard part is waxing it afterwards. Some people wash 1st with Dawn dish detergent to remove the old wax, but any car wash will do ok.

There is no quick version for Zaino, LOL. The application isn't any harder, but you have to let some coats dry so it can take an entire weekend. There are some other incantations to follow to get the ultimate shine. Don't forget to remove the hems from your US made Egyptian cotton towels so the polyester thread doesn't scratch the finish (no, I'm not making that up).

    Must wash car...
    Must wax car...
    Must vacuum car...
$30 or $75 to do it myself...
    ...
Must pay someone to wash, wax, and vacuum car...

I am WAY too AR to do that myself. This would cost me an entire day per car!

Sorry for any confusion, but I did not buy yet! I was just commenting on how "close I was" a few weeks ago when I got a counter-offer down to $900 over invoice, but I was looking for something closer to $500; even now, that number seems so HIGH, with the some of the great deals that other's have mentioned. This is all relative to a little over 2 years ago when my second kid was born and I was shopping around and the best deal I got was a quote of $1,500 over sticker, remember those "good old days"? For now, I'm just going to "sit back and watch"!

As far as good Korean food, my golden rule is, "it's ALL good as long as it's NOT moving" and there's plenty of kim-chee!!! Good driving and Good eating to all you lucky Ody owners!!!

PS to harryfat: my first choice was a black EX-L w/DVD, not NAV, we got those "for free", remember?
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
Sorry I did not reply to you. The pollen count here is very high, so it was straight to bed with my trusty benadryl. The only thing higher than the pollen count is the Sienna prices around here.

Anyway, the two post above pretty much covered your answers. Again this stuff is really for weirdos like myself who want to make a deal with the devil to keep a shiny car. Stuff is great and expensive, but it last long. The difference is that first day, after that it's just the usual wash and wax when you want. I have heard of fanatics waxing every month during the summer season, not me.

If I knew I was going to make a deal with the devil to have a shiny car, I should have asked him to get me a deal on the Sienna.

nnnnnaaaaaaahhhh, even the devil can't get me a deal on the Sienna in my neck of the woods.

Just for fun guys, you should search the web for "Honda Commercial" this thing was just so cool. Absolutely no computer graphics, all actual car parts, only 606 takes to finish it.

It takes a while to load up, but worth the wait for some amazing stuff.

Seeing the prices are coming down every day/week here in the Bay Area, every day you wait, you are better off. At this rate, you will be getting the NAV, DVD and leather for free...Thank you, Toyota, right?

The reason we mentioned Korean food was that Mr. NAV Andrew was complaining awhile back that his NAV showed no Korean restaurants in his area. So I was jsut playing off of that in seeing if there's any good Korean food in the Dublin area (yeah, right). Seeing you're ether only dude I know of that is thinking of getting a NAV in this area, I figure I ask you....

I concur with your assessment of food, but have you seen on TV some places that eats live/just killed fish? Expensive too...

here is how someone explained why the need for claying.

    author: pblevine
Because my car was used daily for commuting in the North East, I have to clay it every spring. In addition to the visible dirt, road salts, and mud, a lot of street level brake dust gets into almost everything. Try rubbing your hand across a freshly washed car. If you feel those tiny little rough spots or the finish is just not absolutely smooth, chances are that brake dust has found a home on your car. This dust is metalic in nature and is a by-product of all the cars and trucks you see on the road. Although very small, dust particles attach themselves to everything and are hard to wash off. Because this dust has microscopic sharp edges, it can become embedded in the finish of a car. Actually, it will embed into the top layer, be it Zaino, wax, or clear coat. After rusting out, the dust then leaves tiny pib marks in the finish. This speeds up the aging of the paint. Claying removes this brake dust with a minimum of damage to the Zaino and/or clear coat. It actually pulls the dust out of the surface. Afterwards, you car's finish will feel very smooth and your finish will last longer too.
  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
    Norman,

    Thanks for the explanation.

I guess I'm just too lazy to get into the new religion. All this sounds like way too much work for me at this point in my life...

I have owned the new Ody for less than 2 months and still haven't washed it once with all the rain we've been having lately.

Maybe later on I might get sucked into this, but for now, I'm content on driving a dirty van....
