    wholigan -

I'm sending them a cashier's check from my home equity line, so no financing for me, unless someone can find me 2.9% for 60 months. My equity line is 4.24% so I figured after I write off the interest it'll be right around 2.9% anyway.

On the shipping, I'm having Carr's run the Odyssey over to an auction house in Chicago where I have a local guy here from MN throwing it on a load coming to MN. Hopefully this will all happen Tuesday. I'm gonna have the transporter inspect the Odyssey and sign-off on it before taking it, so I guess he'll be on the hook for any dings/scratches from then on.

I'm now researching the Honda Care Warranty. It looks as though I can wait to purchase that and still get the same price as if it were new up to 2years/24k miles. Is that true? If so, I think I'll wait on it for a bit before coughing that up. I definitely would like to buy the 7year/100k/0 warranty, but I doubt if Carrs will give it to me for $900. So where can I find it for $900?

I think I went about dealing with MN dealers the wrong way. Instead of contacting the internet depts/mgrs I just sent a general email to a bunch of dealerships and I got them down to $1,360 below MSRP, but still $1,500 more than invoice. I sent them the link to Carr's internet special page and never heard from them again. You would think they would suck it up and at least want to move a car off the lot ready for the 2004.

Well, I'll let the board know what happens over the next few days. Hopefully everything will go well.

    Thanks -

Looking for an EX cloth. Just wonder what both you guys paid for license ,title, & doc fees, as Carr`s site states that their internet price excludes these fees? BTW,I looked at Windy City Honda`s site & they advertise invoice price also for EX ($24,665).

Also, did anyone ever hear what dealership Flacroupier1 got his oddy at. He never stated, I assume FL, from his name. I`m in FL also but willing to travel for a good deal. Nead more ammo for shopping.

I am returning from overseas at the end of June and hope to buy an '02 or '03 Odyssey? (I will pay cash so I won't be financing.) What is the best price I should expect to find in Houston, TX (or anywhere else in TX)? I don't want NAV or DVD or leather. Will prices drop throughout the summer due to the '04 coming out in Sept? Any suggestions for honest, reliable dealers in the Houston area. From other postings it looks like $2-3k below MSRP would be the best deal. What are the major differences between the '02 and '03? Thanks for the help!

Can anyone get the 03 Odyssey for Invoice or better EX model? Please advise. I thing it is $24,630.00

    Peter -

Carr's Honda in Chicago is selling their EX models for $24,665.00

Go to their website and check out their internet specials.
  • havasu4mehavasu4me Member Posts: 15
Peter85, Windy City Honda in Chicago also lists EX for $24,665 ... same as Carr`s. Look at their site.

Shinyredave, thanks for the email. You did well with the total price with fees and everything.

Since we can't stomach paying over MSRP and waiting 8-10 weeks for a Sienna, my husband and I think we'll go with an '03 Oddy.

From what I'm reading here, sounds like the dealers are actually fairly negotiable. We're thinking of getting an LX, and a local dealer has a few on the lot (and many EXs). Anyone care to hazard a guess as to whether we can get close to invoice?

    TIA for any opinions!

I grew up in the Deep South - don't tell Kirstie, but I got to hate listening to St. Louis all the time on the radio. They were the "local" pro team. So when I went to my first major league game and the Mets killed them, that was it for me. Winning the Series that year ('69) was gravy.

I follow the Devils 'cause the young Scotty is from Anchorage, where I lived a long time. I'm more loyal to players than teams these days.

Congrats to all you new owners out there.

Thanks for that. The mystery now solved.

    Here's a Mets-Deep South connection for you:

Tug McGraw used to pitch for that "amazin" team. His son Tim is a southerner and country music star. He's married to Faith Hill (lucky guy). I happen to adore Faith Hill. Anyway, just thought I'd give you another "justification" to be a Mets fan.

Re: Devils. I like Gomez, but Stevens is "the man".

As for my Ody searches - they are still in the beginning stages. Since it appears I won't have purchased before the end of the June 2 deadline - I will have to do the dance with salespeople throughout the month of June. Oh, joy.

Still, Ody is my No. 1 choice.

I just saw his brain cancer story the other day in the paper; had no idea that was his son & dtr. in law.

I do have a Yankees baseball signed by the '71 team and Steinbrenner is pretty hilarious (the new Visa ad w/ Jeter sounds good). I may have to switch to the Cubs tho, since the Boise Hawks are one of their farm teams.

For you Canadian buyers, maybe the tough competition will help pricing. (canada.com)

Steve - yeah, sad thing about Mr. "ya gotta believe". I hope he pulls through with all that.

Now how in the world did you get that ball? Ebay? Haven't seen the Steiney/Jeter advert yet. Still crack up everytime I see "Steinbrenner" on old Seinfeld reruns.

As for minor league ball - I love it. I go see the Staten Island Yankees (single A) Trenton Thunder (AA) as well as Brooklyn Cyclones (single A Mets)

Did I mention I was going to Lease my Odyssey? Car Man doesn't know what he's in for.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
There was a Deep South - Jake Gibbs connection through my sister, so it was a "freebie." I never did tell her I wasn't a huge Yankee's fan ;-) Used to enjoy the Glacier Pilots in Anchorage (summer collegiate), but haven't made it to a Lookouts game where relatives live yet. Great new stadium there in Chattanooga.

Probably I should drive 8 hours to Carr's Honda to get my Ody. Still debating......
A local dealer is willing to locate the color we want. The price is appealing, $250 above invoice. If we pay $500 deposit, they'll trade with another daler and send someone to drive it back which will add at least 100 miles on the new Ody. What do you think about the 100 miles on your Ody? How about never get to test drive before the committment?
Shipping like Shinyredave, message#4120, may be possible and we have to pay the cost and make the dealer willing to handle it. Is it easy to get dents thru "open shipping"? Is "enclosed shipping" necessary?
    Thanks.

Hell yeah you can get close to invoice.

I paid 70 dollars over for a EX with Leather. Love it.

    I've been looking/negotiating for 2 years!

Not really..I went to negotiate in '01 and they wanted 500 over MSRP. I told them to take a flying leap.

I went to negotiate in '02 and they were still too high and too proud. All the dealers in Little ROck had no more than 4 on the lot at any given time.

So I waited...and waited... and waited. EAch week I would drive by the lot and note how many were there. Then bammo, 2 months ago it happened. They went from 5 to 10 all of a sudden. But still I waited. Drove by in a couple of weeks and they were up to 15. A couple of weeks later they were up to 29. Then 34....I knew my deal was there to be had. But to ensure the proper desperation on their part, I wanted until the last week of the month! Called and asked for the internet sales manage and made him the 70 dollars over invoice offer. He called me back in 2 minutes and said when can you pick it up.

Simple as that. If I would have bought 2 or even 1 year ago, however, I might have got 500 off MSRP, but I doubt it.

If someone is thinking of a Sienna and wants it now, they will be paying full price. Better wait until they start accumulating on the lot...like 2 years from now.

There are definitely deals to be had. I predict others will do better than me very soon. But I'm happy for you. I got the deal I wanted and can live with.

    Good Luck!

    Gene..

Good Things Come To Those Who Wait.

Congrats on the new ride, Ggrindle2.

Gary001, I'm not a fan of non-refundable deposits. I'd want delivery contingent on your acceptance of the van - what if it pulls as you drive off the lot for example?

I don't have a problem with someone driving a new van 100 miles to another dealer however.

    Gene,

I was wondering what happened to you after your purchase... had to get a new name to match yer new Ody, eh? Can you say what dealership you got your van from? I`m in FL, but am tempted to catch a flight to Carr`s in chicago or maybe TX. Both are good prices. Would rather find somewhere within driving distance. Dealers in FL are still too proud. They say that the poor availability & high price of Sienna is keeping honda market strong in FL.... whatever, too strong for me I guess.

Sales Tax is going up to 8.625, better buy soon.

Steve, what I'd say a while back of month / quarter end. CONGRATULATIONS to all new owners. WELCOME.

drewwings2 - Since you switched over, I sell those conversation mirrors that Toyota makes a big deal on for $1.99. So far no one has ordered from me. :)

Can't remember but someone had a post a while back of getting a deal of $500 UNDER invoice somewhere in PA. Just some more notes on pricing, in Jan. when I asked for $1k off of MSRP, dealers were ready to call the paddy wagon. In March when I bought, I still had to fight for my $2k Off, but I got it. It should be no surprise that at this time of the year, people can get a better discount than I did with fairly little or no trouble. IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE IN CAR SALES? :)

Just wondered if you had any luck on your deal for EX in Houston yet?
  • drewwings2drewwings2 Member Posts: 2
... for an LX. That would be 943 over invoice (not including dealer holdback). Seems like there are more EXs in stock than LXs, but we really don't need the EX amenities ...

Anyway, I'll post if/when we have a deal! We're in SE Pa.
  • talltxagtalltxag Member Posts: 8
Thanks for asking. We decided to wait on a purchase but really got down to a good price, I think. For an EX cloth our drive out was quoted at $26381 to $26488 from several dealers. Hopefully in a few months we can still get a good deal.

I'm looking for a LX in CT. I have a quote from a No Haggle dealer of $23,850 and they have the color I want. I have quote from another dealer for $23,350. They don't have the color but said there are a few in the area. They want me to leave a deposit before getting the car in the color I want. Is it worth the $500 to pay the deposit and have the lower dealer get the car from somewhere else? Is this a good price for the LX?
  • havasu4mehavasu4me Member Posts: 15
    talltxag,

Sorry you weren`t able to get a van right now. I`m sure that prices will still be good in the future... you`re in a good location for shopping.

Was wondering if you can either detail here on this forum or private email me thru my profile address, with the breakdown of your deals in Houston for the EX. I have been researching on the web for the last few days and have found that Houston indeed has the best prices that I`ve found. Just wonder what the breakdown in fees ie., tax , title, doc. fee, etc.have been for you there.
  • lj225lj225 Member Posts: 33
It really is up to you? He's just going to get it from another dealer, then drive it to his lot. Maybe even the dealer who has the color you want? :-)

But I would ask the dealer (who has the color) if he can at least meet you half way. Like take another $250 off. Or straight up say can you do $500 more if not Ill go with so-n-so.

It's a game as Im coming to realize, and it all depends on your needs. Can you lose the deal? Do you need an ODY yesterday? Can you walk away? Also see what the Doc fees are compare that.

Good Luck. oh Where abouts in CT? I was wondering about CT to see if any deals were available. I have a cousin in torrington, and was going to ask him to shop around for me.

    Ggrindle2,

You are right on the money!! The deals may be starting!! My wife and I just took delivery today on an EX Cloth for 300 under invoice. This board and tons of internet research really helped us on the deal.

    Go Spurs Go!!
  • wholiganwholigan Member Posts: 148
Deal was easy and hassle free. Sales person was great. Got an EXL-RES for $27361. I think it was some kind of special where they ordered LOTS for the Easter weekend and didn't sell many. Nonetheless, I bought the weekend after Easter. Price was what was published in the Chicago Tribune. If you are thinking about buying there, I suggest trying to get a hold of the Wednesday Chicago Tribune the weekend before you want to go. That is the Tribune's Automotive day and has all the dealers "published" prices (for those infamous "in-stock" models).

The only item my wife and I felt a little "handcuffed" on was the financing. If you are serious about buing there, call the finance manager and ask what form of "dollars" they would accept for payment. They would NOT take a sight draft from my bank. I ended up with Honda Financing at 4.95 - I could do better...

If you want more specific information from me just send an email - my address is in my Townhall profile as the CITY which I live...

    Enjoy!

Paid $22,416, plus about $100 for TL, over $1,400 for tax, $100 fees (document and inventory tax). Also bought 7 year/75K for $1,160. The dealer was asked for $1,600. Showed the web site www.hondawarranty.com. They dropped the price. My wife does not trust me to buy the warranty from that site. So ended up paying the dealer.

This townhall and all your posting helped me a lot. Thanks, everybody!

    Carr's Honda EXL for Invoice

Well, my EXL (for invoice) arrived today on a load from Chicago. B-E-A-UTIFUL!

I called Carr's and told the operator that I wanted to talk to someone about their internet specials, she transferred me to a sales guy. He was very straightforward, gave me the total costs over the phone which was $52.57 doc. fee, $15.00 county tax and a $10.00 permit for non-residents. That was it for fees, however, I need to pay taxes, title, etc up here in MN.

It was the easiest way to buy a car - overnighted a cashier's check from my home equity line, got the car shipped up here through a third party shipper and one week later it arrived. Can't complain, saved $2,860 over MSRP!

Carr's was great - I had a good experience and recommend them.

Here's a picture of my silver Ody:
    http://home.attbi.com/~kmatenaer/EXL.jpg

Good luck with any new purchases! Don't pay over INVOICE! And you can find the 7year/100k warranty for $900 if you look hard enough.
  • wholiganwholigan Member Posts: 148
Way Cool! I had a good experience at Carr's as well. You will need the "birth certificate" for the car when you go to register... Do the simple MN tax math: Selling Price (less any trade) * .065. License fee was (I think) $398. Total cost of Tax, Title, Registration, and every other land of 10000 taxes was $2139.

    Enjoy the Ody!

BTW - My daughter baptized the passenger slider with a 5 inch gouge with her bicycle... Gosh I love owning a car!

Sister in law brought the their Ody into the garage (1 week old) passenger side was a steel ladder, you know the rest.

Same week I was backing up the ody, keeping an eye on the passenger side and forgot that there was one of those plastic storage shelves on my side, scratch the front side bumper.

Just so you know, Ody JUST fits in our garage, that I have to use the passenger sliding door to get in and out when I am in the garage. I don't even have enough room to open the driver side slider.

Hi there. We're in Delaware looking for a good deal on an LX. I requested online pricing from several places (most of which used Autoweb and sent us to the same dealership). The closest dealer called today to say they have the color we want (Sage Pearl, although not set on it).

drewwings2, did you finalize a deal on an LX in SE PA? Wondering how close that dealer might be to us.

This site has been helpful, along with the gazillion other sites out there. We've been researching online aLOT. Thanks for your input.

Congrats on a great deal on your new Odyssey LX, I live in Dallas and am looking for a good deal for the same, could you please tell me the dealer from where you got this deal?

Also did you pay destination charges above the invoice price of $24,416? how much if any?

    Thanks,

  • yczycz Member Posts: 25
The $22,416 price included the destination ($460). Lute Riely is the dealer. They had over 20 Odys (4 LX) on the lot. Good luck.

We just bought a new EX to replace a 2000 EX that was totaled in a wreck (see the regular Odyssey board for a description of the crash and the survival story). Paid $1750 under MSRP, which I think was pretty good, considering that when we bought our 2000 the only deal going here was full MSRP (and watch out for the "non-optional options"), and dealers in Maine are still in relatively short supply. In fact, the dealer we bought our 2000 from had no EXs on the lot, and wouldn't be getting another available one in until early July.

What have other Odyssey shoppers in Maine/New England been seeing for EX prices recently?

Also got the 5 year/100k mile/$0 deductible Honda Care Warranty for $695. Almost half of that should be covered by the refund we will get on the unused portion of the HCW from the 2000 EX!

Picked up my midnight blue EX-L RES on May 31. Ended up with $380 for a 4yr/60k lease. They came about $1700 off of list plus I only owed first payment at delivery (about another $300 off). I know there are better deals out there, but driving 10 minutes to the dealer was better than driving 500 miles. The dealer is in Cary, NC, and I can say that this dealer was much more willing to negotiate in May than he was in March when I first went to him. If anyone wants a salespeson name, please e-mail me. He was pretty good and they weren't real pushy on the accessories either.

Finding this message board is going to save me lots of money. A few questions re Carr's:

    1. Currently there are no "internet specials". Do these tend to appear closer to the end of each month?
    2. Are the specials car and color specific or do they state all EX-Ls in stock are $__,___.
    3. Does EXL-RES refer to the EX with DVD?
    4. Anyword on the 2.9% financing being renewed? Or does Honda offer these special rates on a very limited basis?
    5. Living in Twin Cities, does anyone have name of good transport company?
    6. Is it safe to assume the prices being quoted from Carr's includes the $460 destination charge?

    Thanks for your help!

I live in the cities..My brother and I just bought EX-L's for invoice from Carrs, this included the destination, etc...Invoice price is on Edmunds...This is what we paid......One silver and one black...Email me for the salesperson to talk to and I can also provide a shipper who is in the area weekly for about $400.
It beats paying $27,500 up here in Mpls.

RES is DVD...Their site is not updated all the time so it looks like they have more than they do..

Have been watching this sight for a couple months now, knowing I need to buy a van but just not ready to make the leap due to fear of feeling like a soccer mom. But again, I don't look cool in my current 97 Dodge Stratus either, do I? WHEN I buy one, which I hope to be the end of June or July (trying to save for down payment right now so I can keep that monthly payment down), I am planning to go with the Ody - for all the reasons I have seen on this sight and many others. You all have been a great resource for me!

Anyway, bad news is I am in Des Moines, Iowa - the land of low Ody inventory, aka "Still MSRP" or darn close. Looks like I might have to make a trip to Chicago, which is about 6 hours, so to save enough $$ I can do that. However, I am wondering if anyone has had recent experiences in Ody negotiations in Omaha or Kansas City, as both are much closer to me. There are no trips planned to the Mall of America at this time, since it appears Minneapolis will be of no help to my cause!

I am looking for an EX-L, and am flexible on the color. Would love to have the ERS, but just can't come to terms with paying $1200-1500 extra for a DVD player, though that would be great!

Does anyone have any insight, or should I start bidding on Cubbies tickets to entice my husband to drive to Chicago with me?
  • havasu4mehavasu4me Member Posts: 15
Look at hondacars.com ,click on odyssey, dealers, type in chicago, or wherever you want to shop ,and try Carr`s and Windy city honda dealerships.Carr`s was advertising Odyssey EX cloth at invoice, though they removed the ad from site... but they are still selling at this price, according to above msgs. Also Windy city was still advertising EX cloths for $24,665 ($2 above invoice, incl. destination) as of yesterday. Might check & see if they will sell you the EXL at invoice.
