Before 4-th of July get some local paper with "Some 4-th of July Supper Sale." Come and negotiate with them by showing al your price findings.
Do negotiation based on Invoice!!!!! Not based on MSRP!!!!!
Convince him, that you are trusting him, but need better deal.
Do same with their "sales manager".
Iam confused becacuse the invoice on the Navigation EXL is $27808.47 including Destination. If you add the title and Tax that would be $27,808.47 + approx $1750 = $29558 Which means I am getting it below invoice. Please someone help me understand what I am missing. thanks
I did read the article you suggested the other night. It was interesting, and I forwarded a link to my hubby.
I'm keeping track of what folks are reporting here and have all the numbers for invoice, dealer cost, etc. I do need to check on taxes when you purchase out of state. Invoice for the LX is $21,957. Like I've said, the best offer we've had is $23,860 ($1000 off MSRP). My offers have been $22,900-$23,000. We have financing worked out independently and do not have a trade-in.
Today, I'm calling our local dealer to see how much better he can do than $23,860.
I wonder if they'll have any end of month/quarter (June 30, right?) specials that would beat a July 4 sale. We shall see. Research, patience, determination...
I spoke/emailed three dealers to get the initial price down. Not one dealer had an EX in stock. Some had an EX-L or two. I was trading in a 1995 Acura Integra GSR and was looking for 60 month financing.
One dealer quoted MSRP with no destination charge. Also gave the lowest offer on my trade. Even when presented with my best offer from the 3, they did not move higher.
Second one quoted 26,660. When told that the third dealer quoted 26,400, they gave a last offer of 26,300. 6 weeks for delivery.
As you can see, not much to work with. Last dealer, and ultimately the one we bought from, came down to $26,000 with no destination charge. Gave blue book on my trade and financing at 4.19% for 60 months. Beat the best bank in my area.
Vehicle was delivered two days after purchase.
So, the mid-atlantic is not Chicago or Houston, but you should be able to get at least $1,000 off MSRP even if they do not have the van you want in stock. If they have some stock, you should be able to push a bit lower.
Good Luck.
The tax in Oklahoma is only like 3% versus 6% in Texas, so your Tax, title, and tag will be close to $2,000.
thanks
The salesperson promised the ody will come next Monday.
The only concern is that the sales guy refused to have his manager sign the paper. He also did not put the vin # on the paper.
Any comments?

Let's see what will happen.
If I were you, I would get the actual price of the vehicle, not including the Tax, Title, License. That way, you will know exactly how much discount you are getting, instead of having to guess how much Tax you have to pay and all that and deduct from the drive-out price.
So if invoice is $27,808, then $27,308 is what you want to pay. Then add on the tax, etc.
So if Tax, etc. is exactly $1,750, then your drive-out price needs to be $29,058 to match the best deal right now. And the best deal seems to always be in Texas, which is where you are--you lucky dog!
Let's see what will happen.
And!!!! loved driving of Odyssey much more then 2004 Sienna.
I just put up a big rant in the Sienna Prices Paid discussion about buying new vans - I'll spare y'all :-)
[edit] Just ran across this in the news: "That de-emphasis of the former target indicates a readiness to forsake the chase for marginal volume in favor of improving profits. If so, his willingness could be a clear indication of Honda's future stance in the United States if the incentive wars there escalate further." Translation = no incentives, fewer sales, holding the line on prices?

I have 2001 Odyssey with 32,000 miles on it. I am interested in buying 7yr/100k/0 deductible genuine Honda Extended warranty, mainly because of rear sliding doors. They have been repaired twice already.
Any one has either link or e-mail/contact for dealer who is selling it at lowest price? As always, any help is greatly appreciated.
-Thanks
Honda East in Cincinnati, thru internet sales dept., for invoice ($24,663 including destination) plus $50 doc. fee,$10 temp license fee, $5.25 "memo title". Total was $24,728.25. Will title and pay sales and registration taxes in my home state, FL.
My experience: using blandfordm`s suggestion( see msg. #3808) ,I drafted my "offer letter", copy and pasted it to 40-50 dealers around the country .In my letter I stated that I had found two dealers in Chicago who would sell me an EX for invoice. Got some responses, most saying that they could not match or beat my offer.
Finally got one dealer in Houston who said he could meet my offer ,which was for $500 below invoice ,which would allow me to purchase a plane ticket ,fly to the dealer ,pay rental car from airport, and motel for a night and still beat the Chicago price. Only trouble was (1) he had $200 in fees, more than Chicago, & (2)didn`t have any havasu`s.
Since I needed to go to Ohio for business, I thought I`d try OH & western PA dealers as a last resort, to see if they could match my Houston deal.Noone could. Closest I got was the offer for invoice at Honda east, but they had TWO havasu`s in stock. I decided to pay a little more to get the color I wanted.
Got on Orbitz.com, found a flight from Tampa to Dayton for $136, flew to airport, had prearranged for dealer to have someone pick me up at airport(was an hour and a half drive each way to dealership).Spent about three hours at dealership as they had to prep the van once I decided on the one I wanted.
Drove back home ~900 miles to FL . Van drove great. With only 350 miles and 12.5 gal as a first check, thats about 28 mpg.Need a larger mile spread as this is more than the rating of 25 on the sticker for highway... but I`m not complaining( was mostly night driving and didn`t need the AC much). Kept it at 60 mph for the first 600mi as I didn`t know the breakin procedure & was too anxious to get home to read the manual.
Well ,after procrastinating for approx. 5 years, since the revamped Ody first came out in `99, I finally made the plunge. Kept putting it off for one reason or another (eg.,"next year the hp is going from 210 to 240, with a change from 4 to 5 speed trans. and on and on). I could have waited a couple more months for the `04s and then its only a few more months till the revamp in `05(but then we`re back to MSRP).My mentality kept me thinking this...I`m suprised that I EVER made the decision to go ahead and get the van.
Well its the first new car I`ve bought since a civic in `86.Absolutely love it so far.One other thing: researced hitches on other edmunds boards.Found internet sites for etrailer.com and bageco.com .As bageco is located near Orlando, I drove there yesterday and picked up a "Hidden Hitch" class III for $114.99 plus $22.99 for wiring kit, plus tax. Will next shop handa-accessories.com for Trans. cooler, power steering cooler and a few other goodies.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
Our local dealer was willing to meet the previous offer of $23,860, but could/would not meet $23,360. So, we drove 45 miles to PA to get one for $500 less.
Here's what we ended up with:
$23,360 ($1403 over invoice, $1500 under MSRP)
$642 - Document fee - DE's "sales tax" of 2.75%
$100 - Fees*
$24102 total drive out
*The only thing I'm not completely clear on is the breakdown of that $100 fee. It looks like there's a $55 documentary fee (PA standard, I think), $30 online service fee (?), $10 title fee, and $5 PA tire tax.
We will need to get a DE title ($25) and pay DE registration ($20/year) within the next 30 days.
We had set our limit at $23,500, so we were able to keep to that. Perhaps we could have gotten better if we'd waited a few weeks or until the end of the model year, but I'm having a baby in a few weeks and am tired of car shopping.
If you're close enough to PA, I'd recommend the dealer we used - Mike Piazza Honda in Langhorne, PA, 19047. We worked with the first dealer listed as an internet salesperson (on their website).
SO, we're done. Thanks for all your input. Good luck to all still looking.
Thanks for your help. Enjoy your Odyssey!
Is that the Mike Piazza?
Steve, Host
It won't be the same though. To many Mets are hurt, and all the hype is kind of gone knowing where the Mets are headed. Year 2000, now that was the year.
Actually, we got "free gifts" with our van - a license plate holder that says "Mike Piazza Honda" AND a genuine Mike Piazza Honda keychain. Jealous???
havasu4me, congrats on your deal - you sound awfully excited. Good job!

How long will it take for a tow truck?
How much will the tow cost?
How much will they gauge us on the repairs?
One more thing......1918.
"How much will the tow cost?" More than you have.
"How much will they gauge us on the repairs?" Ditto
"One more thing......1918." Ahh remember the sweetest victories are those savored forever as opposed the tedium of the regular and commonplace.
Oh and am I glad that Clemens won #300 vs Tampa Bay (what a challenge) and he could only go 6 innings. That shouldn't count. It's like the Astros using 6 pitchers for a no hitter. "I want to play near my home" - when did Toronto move to Texas??!!
Me bitter - NAH!
Thanks
makemeadeal, got your email. I contacted several dealers in Houston ,by phone & email, while I was shopping for my van. Best deal was with McDavid Honda. I told them via email that I was looking for an EX cloth ,had a price from Chicago at invoice.
Asked them if they could beat this deal by $500,which would allow me to purchase plane ticket, get airport rental car,and motel for a night, and drive van home (back to FL). McDavid took me up on the offer but didn`t have the color I wanted and their "fees" were more than my deal that I got in Cincy.
But McDavid was the only dealer in Houston who didn`t insist on $289 or close to that, for "VIN" etching, which I refused to pay for, as this is just another way to generate extra revenue for their sale. Gillman Honda would sell for $200 over invoice. Goodson North offered to match McDavid`s but insisted on adding the $289 VIN etch fee.
As far as invoice price for 2004`s, that remains to be seen. I guess it may depend on market factors as time goes on... continued pressure from incentives from other manufacturers, value of dollar, etc. With all the competition from Sienna, new Quest and upgrades to new 2005 Odyssey it seems to me that dealers will still be able to sell at invoice.BUT, from my experience with contacting about 60 dealers over the eastern part of the country, invoice pricing is few and far between. Most dealers insist that they still have a strong market and refuse to go anywhere near invoice.
It depends on how much effort you want to put in getting a van (ie.,how many dealers you`re willing to contact and how far you are willing to travel to get it). If you live in Houston or nearby you are lucky, as this area has good prices.
Hopkins - MSRP - destination charges ($460). Watch out for these guys, they like to tack on crap such as (1) dealer prep, (2) marketing support, etc. I almost made an announcement to everyone in the showroom.
Richfield - MSRP, but don't have any
Burnsville - MSRP - dest. charges
Brooklyn Park/Center - $1000 off. Probably could get more but was pissed at salesman's contempt. Owned by same people as Hopkins.
Buerkle - $1360 off and bought. Possibly could have gotten lower, but there were no more dealers in town to argue with. Also, I was tired of shopping and the wife wanted the van.
I guess the best time to buy here was 2-3 months ago. Buerkle had 20+ vehicles. Oh well. Good luck.
"Imaging if Dave or I are driving around Boston, and we happened to break down, and we both have Yankee Fan plate frames. "
Well, I'll have Mazda's roadsize assistance. I believe they are Tokyo Carp fans.
"One more thing......1918"
Heh, heh - nothing like a cheap (and satisfying) shot.
By the way - is Benitez the worst closer in baseball or what? I hear the Red Sawx are interested in him. If only . . . .
(by the way Steve - didn't we alredy have this "Mike Piazza" conversation?)
Bkantor, don't be so shy next time; tell 'em all about Edmunds :-)

I am including their price breakdown on a quote for an Ody EX L w/DVD. I would appreciate any comments.
selling price/$27,500.00+VPS-theft deterrent/$249.00+state sales tax/$1,734.31+document fee/$50.00+insp. fee/$21.75+road and bridge fee/$11.50+license title fee/$92.80+vehicle inventory tax/$71.95=$29,736.31 drive-out.
Thanks!
I live in central Illinois and am willing to travel as far as Ohio. I've got a dealer in Illinois that will go $1200 under MSRP, but not lower. But Illinois tax is 6.25%. There are states near by that is as low as 4.25%. This will save me over $500.
What is the best state to buy (dealer name would be very helpful)?
Thanks in advance
I think you have a great deal and I am willing to jump in if they have another one.
I think you have a great deal and I am willing to jump in if they have another one.

Here's the lowdown:
Paid invoice $26,011
Vehicle inventory tax $58
License, Title, transfer, State inspection, Doc Fee $159.55
Splash guards $61
Cargo tray $74
Luggage rack cross bars $125
Tax $1,642
Total $28,131
In my initial email to them I told them that I wanted invoice price and that this email was going out to all of 10 or so Honda dealerships in the DFW area. The first to accept would get the sale. Received an email 3 hours later accepting the deal, but quoting me about $500 or so on my accessories. I emailed them back with the link to collegehillshonda.com saying that I could get them cheaper there and that I would just install them myself. Salesman said he would sell them to me at that cost. Didn't get the paint protection or the leather protection. Figured the paint protection to be a waste of $ and figured that I could treat the leather, myself. By the way, have any of you found a good leather treatment and, if so, what kind and where can I buy it?
So far, I've put the mud guards on...not too big of a deal. Haven't put on the crossbars yet.
Overall it was a great experience...all the way down to my in-laws coming from Baton Rouge to spend time with their 16 month old granddaughter while my wife and I took care of the van transaction.
So, that's my deal.
Thanks
