Thank you all for the informationa and assistance in getting the best deal possible.

We picked up an EXL w/DVD for invoice last night. Total drive out with ttl was 29,300.

The dealer offered sell us the API exteneded warranty. 7yr/100k miles/ 0 ded for $ 925.

I am not sure about this warranty, i would feel more comfortable with the Honda warranty. Anybody have any thoughts or pricing?

    Thanks again!!!

The Honda Care Warranty can be had for as low as $900 for the 7 year/100k mile/$0 deductible. Shop around before spending money on an extended warranty, and present your findings to your dealer. He may match a better price. Personally, I would recommend going with the Honda Care extended warranty instead of something from a third party.
  • needanuvanneedanuvan Member Posts: 5
Do you know of any delaers offering that kind of price for the 7/100K/0 Honda Warranty?
  • dave2003dave2003 Member Posts: 17
Below are the prices that Pohanka Honda of Salisbury in Maryland is offering on Honda Care extended warranties for the Odyssey. Since Edmunds will not allow me to post any useful contact information for this dealership or the person at Pohanka Honda of Salisbury who handles the Honda Care warranties, here's what I suggest you do: do a Google search for Pohanka Honda of Salisbury. You should be able to find their home page very quickly. Get their contact information, and call or email. The person you want to deal with is the finance manager.

Here's my disclaimer: I've never dealt with Pohanka Honda, in any capacity. The information I obtained about their pricing of Honda Care warranties I got online. We purchased a Honda Care warranty from the dealer in Maine who sold us our van, for $30 more than Pohanka offers the same plan for.

Updated prices for Ody warranties in '03. All are zero deducts and $40 above dead cost.

    7 yr / 100k - $900
    7 yr / 75k - $675
    6 yr / 100k - $765
    6 yr / 75k - $630
    5 yr / 100k - $665
    5 yr / 75k - $575
    5 yr / 60k - $485
    4 yr / 60k - $425

Other Honda dealers that offer the Honda Care plans (not all do) may match or even go lower than Pohanka Honda's prices. Just like with buying the van, shopping around can save you some money.

There's lots of good information on Honda Care extended warranties available on the internet. Because Edmunds' policies prohibit Town Hall members from freely exchanging (in the Town Hall forum) just where this information is, you'll need to look for it on your own. Trust me, it's out there.

Hi, I'm interested in getting a new or used Odyssey with leather and navigation system. I think I'll probably have to go for a new one (2003 model) because not too many people purchased navigation system as an option. I live in the Boston area, can someone tell me what's the best deal right now for getting the van like that, in MA, NH, RI, CT, NY, VT, ME also maybe. My baby girl (first one too) is due at the end of July, so I wish I can find the right deal (not necessary get the car in hand) by then. Thanks.

I am moving to the Fresno in September and I want to get a 2003 Odyssey EX-LRes. I see everyone posting such good deals via internet sales with dealers in Texas, Chicago, and Ohio but I havent seen anything in California. Does anyone know of a good place to buy EX-LRes near Fresno or SF? I am willing to travel a couple hundred miles if I have to but I am not sure that I can fly to the middle of the US to get one. I dont think I should bother dealers with price inquiries yet since I cant seriously make or take an offer for 2 more months. If someone could help me that would be great. Thanks.

We are in VA and would be quite willing to come up to MD if the price was right. We've negotiated down several dealers in this Ody-crazed area (down to $26,262 with cargo tray) but just saw your post. I would appreciate it if you would be willing to share the dealer's name & number with us via eonebeck@comcast.net. Thank you.

In reality Honda and also Acura do not sell "factory" options. Though they are factory made, they are considered as "DEALER" installed options. Your dealer will have a book with all the options that they offer.

You can however get a price on the product you are looking for by going to the other sites, specifically meant for Ody accy. Most of us have purchased our items like the tray, mud guards, and fogs through various places but are all Honda parts.

My final price on an EX (cloth) was 24,800, includes all dealer fees. My suggestion to anyone shopping for a new car, is to send out multiple emails to various dealers within 100 miles of your house or greater. I had one dealer willing to drive 50 miles to personally deliver the ex to my front door at a pretty competive price. I did all my negiotations via the internet and just went into the dealership to sign the paperwork and check over the car. Better than my wife and I sitting in a cramp office with two small children for hours having the salesman going to see his "manager" every couple of minutes. I probably could have gotten it cheaper, but I had already spent a week dealing with multiple dealers, so I was ready to stop. I live in the Midwest.

    Jake,
I believe there is a dealer in Fresno and going north a bit on Hwy99 there is Stockton and Lodi Honda. A year ago I went there to buy at MSRP and that was a good deal for then, but now the higher volume guys (try Capitol Honda in San Jose) might be worth looking at as well.

    good luck

    22. Why doesn't Edmunds.com list option prices for some makes and models?

Almost all Acura, Honda, and Suzuki options are dealer-installed. Some manufacturers, like Nissan, Subaru, Toyota and Volvo, will offer both factory- and dealer-installed options. Pricing for these items can vary depending on region and dealer. Therefore, it is impossible for Edmunds.com to list an accurate price for these items. Our experience shows that these items often carry a 100-percent markup in dealer profit. We recommend that you avoid buying dealer-installed options if you can help it.

    All,
I just bought My Honda Odyssey EXL with Navigation. Thanks for all the help. Here is the break down.
    Price: $27245.00
    Sales Tax: $ 1702.81
    Fees: $ 88.25
    Title:/Lic. $ 92.80
    Inv Tax $ 70.65
    Final Price: $29199.51
I have not seen anyone get the Ody/Nav for that price so I think I got a great deal.
  • chikitchikit Member Posts: 1
Rocky36 can you email me the dealer info for the dealership where you made your purchase. I live in the NY area but would be willing to travel to make my purchase for the right price. The best "out the door price" (T/T/L and Destination) I've been quoted so far is $31,800 at a dealership in Atlanta.
My email info is included in my user profile. Thanks for your help.

I've been shopping dealers around Houston area and all are offering right around invoice for 2003 EX's but this is still a little rich for my blood. Availability of used models in area is not as good as new. Found a dealer with one remaining NEW 2002 EX. Edmunds TMV for used cars shows $25150 w/ leather but I suspect this is a little high. Other used in this area wearing MSRP's of around $23500 and "NO HAGGLE PRICE" used dealer showing $26000. What should I expect to pay?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
"TMV does not necessarily reflect the best deal you can possibly get. It reflects the average of the transactions within one region. Variable factors, such as the inventory levels of a specific dealer, or how eager the dealer is to sell, may also affect the purchase price. I would suggest always offering less than the TMV to begin with, hoping to close the deal at or under TMV."

    How to Use TMV

steve_HOST, thanks for the clarification re: TMV. I wasn't trying to criticize TMV, it just seems like the market for this car has changed so much this year. Supply has finally caught up with demand. Each of the dealers around town seem to have around 40 2003's in stock. I'm finding I can get EX's in Houston at or below invoice at this time. My trouble is that I can't figure out how to price a car which has no miles, has never been titled, but is about to turn two years (model years) old. Do I deal as if this is a new car or a used car? The dealer shows it with the 2002 MSRP.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Dealers seem to be hurting a bit, even Honda ones. So you might be able to get closer to your price right now. And even though Odyssey's haven't depreciated much historically (since '99 anyway), you are still looking at two years worth of depreciation on that 2002 "new" one.

"Edmunds.com said the average time for a dealer to sell a vehicle once it reached the business was 69 days, compared with 66 in April and 54 a year ago."

'Incentive burnout' slows down car sales (AP)

Interesting choice of a user name btw. Do you also like RC Colas, or are you from Chattanooga, home of the factory?

I've been emailing and calling around for the best price on 2 EXLs and 1 EXL-RES (friends are buying with me) and the best I've done so far is $200 over invoice. I wonder if supply is tight in the Los Angeles area? That deal that rocky36 (post 4295) comes out to a little over $550 under invoice, which is spectacular. I did find another person to buy with us an hour ago so that's 4 EXLs, one with DVD. Hopefully a dealer will be able to go below invoice if we buy 4 Odys; gotta go make some calls. If anyone in the LA area has any info on Ody pricing, please let me know. Thanks much in advance! BTW, during Memorial Day weekend, American Honda Finance Corp dropped their financing rate to 2.9% on all Hondas. Hope they do it again this 4th of July weekend. Keep your eyes peeled!

Better yet, why don't you post the name of the dealership to this board? Not only is it permitted, it's a nice way of thanking those who assisted you, and allows you to assist others.

And this "drive-out" price thing has got to stop, guys. I like the way Rocky broke down his final figure so that I could disregard the variable state-related costs, but why not just leave that stuff out altogether?

All it does is confuse the pricing issue. It does not matter where you buy your car - you always have to pay TTL in the state in which you register the car, and this varies greatly from state to state. Why not just quote your "car only" costs (which probably would include destination, since that is pretty much non-negotiable)?
  • siehsieh Member Posts: 10
1234, The sales tax for Rocky36 was only 6.25%. Where is this place? I guess that is not in the California for sure!
  • lfikelfike Member Posts: 38
I agree with you! I think there are some that think MSRP is invoice on the site. When you have someone quote a purchase price for "way under" invoice...my guess is that they are talking MSRP.
Face it.....there is not one dealer out there that is going to lose money on a car ..let alone a Odyssey that's still in great demand here on the East Coast.
When I purchased my LX Odyssey I paid a nickle over invoice....(nickle over is $500. in car terms). I felt that was more than fair for the dealer and myself. There will be others that pay MSRP....and depending on the market...that's also fair. It all depends on the market in your area. It's called supply vs demand.

    Excellent job on the purchase!
You beat me by about $900 after all the fees, tax, etc.
I wish I had waited until now to buy my Ody!
You guys buying your new Ody now are so lucky!!!!
I wish I were in your shoes right now!

Thanks for all the congrats. I bought the car from Houston where I live. The dealership is Goodson Honda West. It was the last Navigation they have. I was also able to get 2 free oil changes. Keep in mind I have been shopping for the last 3 month and calling all the Houston Dealers eliminating them one by one until they can not match the price. My goal was to buy it for $29,000, but I am still happy with the $29,200 price. Finally, all the other Houston dealers could not match the price and told me that I should run to Goodson and buy it.I enjoyed driving it this week. Now the wife/2kids will have it. Back to my old Toyota Corrolla. I could have bought a Navigation (silver) from Goodson Honda North for 29,300 drive out. Good luck to all in their purchas.
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
$200 is nothing compared to the kind of deal you got!
You did a totally awesome job on the deal.
We are all proud of you, man!
  • garywgaryw Member Posts: 116
After 4-weeks of trying the entire northwest for pricing, the best we could do was $25,800 for a silver EX-Cloth. It already had the etching and protectants on it so it made the final negotations tougher.

It is all location, in the Northwest the Odyssey's, especially EX-L models, fly off lots for sticker.

I am putting leather on aftermarket. See my request for help in the other discussion.
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
$100 or even $200 is nothing compared to getting $3k-$4K off MSRP. I think most of us agree with that. So yeah, I wouldn't break a deal over $100 or $200.
  • tcdenvertcdenver Member Posts: 18
I am close to a deal with a local dealer. The only problem is that they are offering to install the DVD system for $2,100. It seems too expensive. Does anyone have any idea about the fair market price for a DVD system for Odyssey?
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
You may want to go to an independent mobile electronics shop to see what they have to offer. They should be able to offer a better system for less money. OTOH, the dealer setup will be covered by the factory warranty.

    It's your call.

Purchased mine late April for about $600 over invoice at the Dublin Dealership. At the time it was a very good price. They usually have an inventory of about 30. My whole deal was done via internet/phone. See my post around the April 19 for all the particulars. Dublin is in the Bay Area about a 2 1/2 hr. drive from Fresno.
  • dad16dad16 Member Posts: 35
Try www.handa-accessories.com as a place to buy stuff for the Ody. Great prices, Quick shipment and directions to install the accessories you buy.

Sorry, I'm not savvy enough to do an actual link to their site. I don't know how.
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
The best deal I've heard on an Ody w/NAV is $563 under invoice. Ask rocky36. He just bought one. Invoice+destination is $27,808 and he paid $27,245. MSRP+destination is $30,860.
    So $30,860 - $27,245 = $3,615 off MSRP.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Or maybe the dealer wanted to make a quota or just figured they were making enough with the holdback?

Welcome to Town Hall, but please don't go casting aspersions on everyone else, and no soliciting (check your email). Thanks,

In order for there to be a factory warranty issue requires that the modification be directly responsible for the issue at hand. "May void your warranty" is a bit overboard IMHO.
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
Yeah, my Honda dealer says that a 3rd party installation on the RES will not void any kind of warranty.
  • tcdenvertcdenver Member Posts: 18
Many thanks for all of you who reponded. Two more questions:

    1. If I get the DVD installed by a third party, the warranty should remain intact, except the DVD. To me this does make sense. Is this correct?

    2. I am thinking about offering $1,300 for the dealer-installed DVD. Is the price about right? We are talking about $26,500(EX-L)+$1,300 DVD, all inclusive, but before taxes and license. Personally I don't know why the DVD system is so expensive. But I can get a very good 54" TV for under $2,000. MY thinking is that the markup for the DVD system must be very good.

    What do you think?

    Thanks.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
Paul - no one is calling you a liar. As a matter of fact, many dealers are embraced here as long as they provide useful information and don't solicit business. Go on over to "questions for a dealer" or "real world trade in values" and you'll see. mackabee, rroyce, brentwoodvolvo, isellhonda, et al are worthy contributors. Many of us here like the dealer's perspective and insight. Hey, I'm on the dealer's side over 80% of the time.

My concern was with your warranty line. Some people may interpret what you wrote as any warranty issue will be denied due to the DVD player. Yes, if someone installs something aftermarket and damages something it will not be covered under warranty. Most people will understand and accept that. But if the head unit dies, the dealer cannot deny warranty coverage unless they can prove the DVD player caused the head unit to die. OTOH, the dealer is under no obiligation other than to repair the head unit. They don't even have to reconnect the DVD player to the head unit. That's the owner's problem to work out with the installer.

tcdenver - again, see what a local shop would charge. The DVD system is expensive from anyone because of specialization. You can go and buy a 54" TV and set it up yourself. An aftermarket DVD (whether dealer or indy shop installed) involves skill and craftsmanship - not just any yahoo can cut into a car and do it right. Is the dealer system a Honda one or another that they offer?
  • jakevsnakejakevsnake Member Posts: 14
Hey thanks for the info. I will be sure to contact them once I get ready to head back to the States (in Japan right now).
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
Why not just get Ody EX-L w/DVD RES?
The factory DVD only costs $1,500, NO INSTALLATION needed.
But, anyway, as part of the negotiation, I think $1,500 for the DVD RES total installed price would be fair, as long as it is the official original Honda DVD.

Does anyone know if there is any truth behind the belief that the end of the month is the best time to buy? Will I pay more today, then I will on July 31?
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
It isn't written in stone, but many here have gotten better pricing towards end of month and end of quarter.

If you think about it, salesrep would be more willing to deal at this time if they were behind their numbers.

I just recently found out too March is Honda's year end so it also made sense why our sales rep was pushing for the sales to close by end of March.

In my business when reps are in need of sales they call me up to say they have some back end money to throw at deals so they can quote me a lower price than usual.
