Several dealers were willing to go to this price during the first week of January, possibly to get their sales ranking where they needed it to be. During negotiations before Christmas, most dealerships seemed willing to go only to the $700 over invoice range.
We dealt with Garden State Honda and Honda of Essex at the end and chose Honda of Essex based on available colors.
This was for a vehicle from dealer stock.
We were told in December that if we wanted to order one instead of taking it from dealer stock, it would be another $300 or so on top of the $700. Once I got the invoice deal in January I didn't bother negotiating to see if they would do an invoice deal + $300 for a special order. I happily took it from dealer stock.
Very happy with the van and the price.
Good luck to the other shoppers out there.
Thanks.
-Kendo.
Also, I haven't bought a car in a while. What are some of the costs that I should make sure are in the deal so that the salesperson doesn't try to surprise me at the end when I think the negotiations are already done?
Should I get the extra warranty?
I'm not 100% sure about other NJ dealers going to invoice on the LX because once the first two dealers said they would, it was just a matter of finding the color we wanted in stock and since the second dealer had the color we wanted we went no further.
I think Route 22 Honda and Hudson Honda would have gone to invoice based on my conversations with them but I never got it in writing (via e-mail) from them.
We have been going back and forth between the Odyssey and Sienna. I think if we can get the Odyssey at invoice, it will be a much better value. If we cannot get it at or close to invoice, I think we might end up buying the Sienna.
Does the warranty cover everything aside from normal maintenance? Any funny language or exceptions? thanks.
community honda of orland park and castle honda in morton grove were offering the van for $31,964.
this is for potential buyers in the chicagoland area.
thanks and good luck.
Here's a few guidelines:
-Use the dealer locator tool on the site and email out to dealers. Tell them the model you are looking for and specify NO DEALER ADD-ONS (i.e. unless you really want $500 pinstripes that are $30 stickers...). This also includes no accessory add-ons by the dealer such as roof rack (check out the H&A banner near the top of the page and price out the accessories so you know the price of each and compare it to what the dealer may want to charge you...in many cases you are better off buying from H&A and putting in/on the accessory yourself).
-Know the numbers from the dealership before you go in for a test drive. Print out any communication and take it with you.
-Extended warranty - this price is negotiable! Read back in this discussion and you can see what others have paid. Also - you don't have to buy this when you buy the van. You can purchase from any dealership within a certain time/mileage on the vehicle (help me out here folks...)
All in all - read the articles on the site about 10 Steps in Buying New Car. They go over the various fees to watch out for, etc.
Good luck! And save yourself the $300-$500, get a deal where YOU KNOW all the numbers. That $300-$500 can come in handy during the rainy season in the Bay Area (i.e. sandbags)
I would send a letter to the general manager and Honda about (a) the business manager's conduct; (b) his subsequent threat to you, including his alelgation that he had made the tape.
In addition, I will send a letter to him directly with a "cc" copy to Honda and the general manager, demanding a copy of any tape recording made of your conversation, the dealership's policy regarding recording and treating business calls with customers and the specific authority for allowing him to make a tape recording (presumably without your approval and without telling you that he was doing it).
It depends on the law of your state. But, unauthorized recording can (but may not always) be a violation of some statutes.
If you are really aggrieved and don't get proper apologies or action, perhaps you can also contact your state's Attorney General's consumer fraud division (it may be called something different in your state) at least to start an investigation.
I am all for these guys make as much money as possible. After all, it is business. But, some go too far, beyond what is ethical and, sometimes, legal.
Go get him so that he will not do that to another (and perhaps weaker) consumer again.
I have gotten four written offers (all located within 20 miles of my house) within a week for a Touring with NAV/RES and cross bars, cargo tray & net and 3rd row sunshade in the range of $36,750 to $37,575 (including destination charges) with varying availability in color and delivery (in stock to 6-12 weeks after ordering).
The MSRP (with destination charges, but before any options) is $38,810. So, the prices are coming down -- slowly but surely. In October and November, at least in Chicago, dealers were getting MSRP on Touring and would not budge a bit.
If you are willing to wait for the car and simply order it now(something you may have to do if you have a strong color preference), you will do okay.
Thanks!
All are within 3 or so hours of Parkersburg (I think).
Also, although I didn't buy from them, I got a pretty good quote a few years ago at the Honda dealer (can't recall the name) in Athens, Ohio, so they might be worth contacting too.
Best qoutes im getting is 33,600 plus tax, tag, title. That sounds a little high compared to other posts I have read.
Thanks
I was just wondering if there is a certain time of year when dealerships offer better deals? What about day of month?
Thanks!
Take some time to browse through the threads that might be relevant to you (by van model, for instance). Start about October of 2004, for the best stuff on new models. Then post specific questions in the appropriate threads. Lots of people here are very helpful.
I'm sure it's not the cheapest I COULD have gotten it, but I felt I was treated fairly and they had what I wanted in stock.
The strategy I used was locating, via Honda's website, all the Honda dealers in my area (centered around Austin) and then visiting EACH dealer's website to examine their inventory. Many dealer's didn't list colors; they didn't get my business as I was able to locate several dealer's who did have what I was seeking (either Ocean Mist or Midnight Blue) in stock. I then e-mailed each dealer who had the van in stock with my offer. I based my offer on dealer's ACTUAL cost for the van (which I calculated as invoice - 3% holdback on the manufacturer's MSRP) and then offered a 'fair' profit over that figure.
Obviously, what is 'fair' is going to vary widely from buyer to buyer and dealer to dealer. But, if you include all calculations in your e-mail, so the dealers internet rep understands how the offer number was arrived at, you should have much better luck with responses.
I hope this was helpful.
Please advice/help
Thanks
At least in my neck of the woods, these are always pre-sold well before they hit the lot.
Wish we had 100 of these!
BTW, between all the Ody trims which one is selling the best so far? Are the EXL NAV's outselling the Touring NAV's?
Non Navi Tourings aren't setting the world on fire. For whatever reason, the Touring EXL's are red hot and in VERY slim supply.
Very frustrating.
Anyhow with regards to the survey, after our purchase there was some confusion over a $120 difference in the cost of something we had worked out upon with the salesrep. The salesrep agreed to give us 6 free oil changes to compensate us and said he'd be sending the agreement out in the mail. Well that night we got the Honda Survey phone call and gave the Finance manager in particular a poor rating. After seeing no sign of our oil change agreement, we found out that since the Finance manager's signature was required and he was refusing to honor the agreement due to our survey result.
We went ballistic and finally managed to get the agreement but the fact that these survey's are so completely non-confidential is a bit surprising to me. If the dealership screws up the consumer should not be held liable.
The funny thing is too that my salesrep and I agreed that ALL of the problems we had wouldn't have occurred had the dealership not been trying to close the deal that night (I had made it clear that I was going to finish the transaction on the next day). The salesrep admitted that they pushed our purchase through that night, against my wishes, because they had not sold any vehicles that day and wanted 1 on the books.
Though you feel the need to keep reminding folks with the things-are-different-here story (I mean really, how many different ways/times are you gonna keep saying it?), fact is that in most of the country substantial discounts have become available on the Odyssey (some models more than others)-- and within just a few months of its introduction.
It's always the MARKET that determines pricing and, yes, these prices can vary by quite a bit depending on supply, part of the country, weather, time of the year, etc..If you don't appreciate a reminder of this fact once in awhile as balance, you can simply use your scroll wheel.
Thanks!
Again, the Ody has only been on the market less than FIVE MONTHS, and substantial discounts are already available in most regions. Just maybe not at YOUR dealership.....
I spoke with more than one General Manager who 'volunteered' info that Honda stopped production over Holidays and is only now gearing up again. They wouldn't give me production start dates because Honda has told them they aren't carved in stone but ARE geared to get cars to the dealers toward end of February. Of course, most of these are already spoken for, but attrition will leave a few.
What this means for me is no more looking for that model until mid-Feb. It also might mean MUCH lower prices starting in March because people will still be reeling from Christmas bills AND upcoming taxes and all bought out. Ergo, MUCH, lower prices to clear vehicles off the floor and continue selling. So, patience may win in the end. Or, on the other hand, maybe Honda will just stop selling cars.
Anyway my question is can I cancel my current extended warranty and re-purchase from another source? curryhondacare seem to be the norm on this board. Would I also be able to finance it using my vehicle financing with American Honda?
Thanks
This was back in Dec (with Monmouth Honda), and I had to take delivery by Dec 31 to get that price. But they did not have a silver EXL R/N and could not get one before Dec31 either. I ended up paying approx 500 over invoice from another dealer closer to home.
Dealer Inv is 30,449 + 515 dest = 30,964.
Good luck
I followed your postings from November to use as my base for a deal in early December. Robertson gave the lowest initial quote (about $700 HIGHER than what you paid) but had no vehicles. Two weeks later, I did get your vehicle for +- $500 more and considered myself fortunate. As I have recently posted, the dealers that I reached out to on the web (and, out of respect, notified immediately after I secured my vehicle) continue to call looking for business. Not one of them has had an EXL Nav/Res at the time of the call. You got an incredible deal for being in SoCal and you should feel proud for that. Thanks to your posting, I had a basis for getting my deal. Thank You!
Thanks
It's nice when members post the names of good dealerships, because while pricing may change, customer service at a good dealership should stay constant!
