This dealer agreed to give me 1k over invoice (30,449+515+1000=31,964). I couldn't negiotiate more and he is not willing to do so. Is there any thing I can do to make this deal happened around 500 over invoice? Any suggestions?
mdmoma, good for you. I posted before about buying from Team Honda in Colo. Springs in December. You and I bought the same model ... EX-L with RES/NAVI. Your price is $174 less than mine, though I had some accessories thrown in (maybe you did as well). So there you have it ... in less than a month, same dealership, same van, price drops $174!
Izk4 - I had the same deal. I asked for accessories, and they threw them in without a problem. The accessories cost $474 if bought and installed at a Honda dealer, so that's almost the $500. Plus when I bought I got the 2.9 financing that was running.
This dealer Team Honda wants to know the name of indiviuals.. so that sales guy can check to see what deal they got. When I called and mentioned about couple of folks in this forum that they bought from Team Honda, he asked for their names?
Just a reminder - no posting of names or "tell them Bob sent you" in the forums. It simply encourages heavy solicitation in the boards which derails the discussion.
You can always print out the posts and take them along.
honda odd - I tried to respond to you with a well-written post that didn't name sales people or buyers, but even that was removed for reasons that seem more and more vauge to me. So, I guess all I can say is, I was one of the people who bought from Team Honda and posted here. I feel I received a very good deal. I bought in December. You can find my posts earlier, but basically for a 2005 Ody with RES/NAVI I bought for $1K over invoice ($31,964), plus a $299 fee, and I had $475 in accessories added. Hope that helps. I feel like I have to post in code now when trying to be helpful! Oh - one head's up ... my van did not have a fuse that allowed the DVD player to function. Apparently this was missed in the pre-delivery inspection, and is somewhat common at other dealers as well (based on posts I have read). Be sure if you buy, to bring a DVD and have them demo your DVD player, so you can see it works. The fix is a simple one, but why have to go to your local dealer and get it done when you can make sure as you buy?
"Anyway my question is can I cancel my current extended warranty and re-purchase from another source? curryhondacare seem to be the norm on this board. Would I also be able to finance it using my vehicle financing with American Honda?"
Of course you can! It says so right on the sample contract that you should have received with the your paperwork. You have 60 days to cancel for full refund. You then have plenty of time (some say one year, some say two) to buy warranty from another dealer at normal price.
No, you can't roll it after the fact into your loan. But it's only $750 from a good dealer.
I'm so glad you posted. We're moving to Georgia this summer from Europe, and we want to buy an Odyssey. I bought an Explorer 5 years ago even though I wanted an Odyssey because Ford was running a great interest rate. But, now it's time to get that Odyssey. I saw in an earlier posting from someone else that production ceased over the holidays, and March would be a better time to start contacting dealers. Any words of advice?

The above answer is wrong... If you cancel a hondacare Extended Warranty, you CANNOT purchase it again on the same vehicle. This is spelled out VERY clearly in the complete contract that is sent to you from hondacare about two weeks after you sign the original contract.
You are allowed to cancel the extended warranty for a full refund for up to 60 days after purchase(30 days in NY), however if you do so you can't buy a new one.
Over a week ago I received an email from the Internet manager at College Park Honda, in College Park, MD, advising that one was expected in within 3-4 weeks (from last week) and could be preordered for $31,895. (almost $1,000 over)
The Monmouth price sounds good if you are willing to drive and if they have it in stock. Make sure to ascertain all fees--"documentation," "credit inquiry," "vehicle protection [VIN etching])" and get rid of those you can.
As the board shows, depending on your location, there are vehicles to be had for $500 over invoice. (in stock or on order). I question how much prices will go down on NAV models before the summer.
I am expected to take delivery of my Touring W/nav and DVD by the second week of March. I wanted to know if it's worth taking the extended warranty and what is the best price to do so. I got the vehicle 1000+ invoice w/2.9, I'm sure they will try to sell me more stuff as I take delivery.
I've been told that the Nav unit alone costs $4800 through the parts department. Only you can decide if an extended warranty is worth the price.
Do a search here for the dealers that offer the best price on Honda's extended warranty. There is no requirement that you must buy it from the selling dealer.
I am curious about your statement that you have 2.9% financing locked in until March. Guess I wasn't aware one could lock an auto finance rate that long.
I think you got a "pretty good deal", the best quote I was offered on a similar package (EXL & RES & NAV was $32 k even but exc. taxes)with a set of wheel-locks thrown in. My colleague got his EX-L with just the RES yesterday for $30k even (had to wait two weeks for the desired color).
I am now actively looking for the Touring Model with NAV & RES (said dealer is not budging until he sees a competitive quote by others) but have yet to see an "equivalent" competitive quote...allowing for upscaling! Anyone out there seen a really good quote (or purchased) a Touring With NAV/RES? Best I saw was $37+K.Am willing to travel to get the vehicle...for the right price.
What is the latest word out there? Wait for prices to lower - meaning, dealers to negotiate aggresively? Would appreciate feedback.
A general note on Extended Warranties here - Be very careful with these. An extended warranty that covers just the powertrain (& most are these) are, in my mind, a waste of money. It is very rare that a transmission (or powertrain component) fails...especially with a Honda or Toyota. Hence, they represent an enormous dealer profit source..very few claimants!
If, on the other hand, they offer the Extended Warranty to cover ENGINE components (Alternator, Water Pump, Timing belts,Power Steering, A/C components, cylinders, pistons etc.) then you are on to a good thing. Unfortunately, almost ALL of them don't offer this since they know there will be a huge number of claimants...especially after 70k miles or so. I work on cars quite a bit & am able to work on almost all engine components and having owned nine vehicles (all for at least 80k miles plus)I have had only one transmission (5-speed gearbox & clutch job) that I carried out.... it was an auction purchase (Rover Sterling) when I was a near-penniless student! Most modern transmissions are tough & should last a good 150k miles. Just ask yourself how many failed transmission stories have you heard from Toyota/Honda? Interestingly enough the water pump on my '96 Toyota Previa van gave out at 38,000 miles - 2k miles after the warranty expired! An extended powertarin warranty would not cover this. So, just be wary of what you are paying for! Summary: Extended warranty on engines are an excellent idea and Extended warranty on powertarins are a waste of money...in my opinion! People just make the mistake of thinking that they are covering their whole vehicle with extended warranties. Read the print carefully & decide for yourself.
How do I do a search for dealer's best price on Extended warranty? on their individual site...
I signed and sales contract two days prior to 2.9% expired and they were to get me the van through a swap the following week. but for whatever reason they couldn't do it and my van is only being produced on Feb 25 and I'll have it two weeks after that. but they haven't really told me anything about not being able to honor the 2.9%, hopefully it'll still be there in March.
"The above answer is wrong... If you cancel a hondacare Extended Warranty, you CANNOT purchase it again on the same vehicle. This is spelled out VERY clearly in the complete contract that is sent to you from hondacare about two weeks after you sign the original contract.

Jeff, I'm afraid you're the one who's wrong! Here's what my HondaCare contract states:
"A refund shall terminate this contract. If cancelled, coverage cannot be reinstated"
The operating word is "reinstated"; meaning bringing back to life the same contract. There is NOTHING here that would prohibit you from entering into a similar contract by buying Honda Care again.
"How do I do a search for dealer's best price on Extended warranty? on their individual site..."
Names of dealerships that charge reasonable prices for Honda Care have been posted here numerous times. I purchased 7 yr/100,000 miles from Pohanka Honda of Salisbury, MD for $1,075. Ask to speak to their finance manager (a lady) about extended warranty. They'll transfer you to the right person. Edmunds prohibits posting names.
"Extended warranty on engines are an excellent idea and Extended warranty on powertarins are a waste of money...in my opinion! People just make the mistake of thinking that they are covering their whole vehicle with extended warranties. Read the print carefully & decide for yourself."
That's always a good advice. My advice is to buy only Honda Care warranty. It's very affordable: 7 yr/100,000 miles with $0 deductible for $1,075 compared to similar coverage from Warranty Direct for $1,530!
Any Honda Care warranty covers all of the components you mention: engine, A/C, pumpts, etc. It's quite comprehensive and it's an "exclusionary" policy (lists excluded parts, instead of listing included ones), which is what one should buy.
By the way, I had both a failed manual transmission and a blown cylinder on a Honda Accord that was less than 7 years and 100,000 miles. Repairs cost me close to $3,000.
The $31790+ $299 DOC + Tax=OTD. I got the 2.9% which they said Honda required that I prepay the state tax ( I was an out of state buyer) normally paid at local DMV. I was willing to travel and did not limit my search to any geographical area. Prior to this deal I was hot on Riverisde Honda in McAlester, OK. Both dealerships where great to work with! Noticed Ebay has several EXL and Touring models available at a competive price.
I think it just depends on whether you can get an additional 500 off. I went into the showroom, very resolute to walk out if he did not come close to invoice. I actually got up, put my jacket and started walking out, but of-course he got me to stop, wait and then wait some more, each time taking 100 to 200off. I think around the 4th time or so, I got tired, and agreed. So much for my resolve.
I too was worried about other fees like excessive doc fees etc. but they were good. Nothing sneaky once I agreed to the price, and it was a good experience from then on.
If you really want to wait for a better deal, I suspect there will be a number of demo RES/NAVs for sale around June. It seems that Honda has given each dealer (in my area, at least) a RES/NAV demo (most got theirs in December), which they are prohibited from selling for 6 months. I have no idea what kind of break you would get on a demo at that time; perhaps by then production will have caught up with demand and the dealers will be content to keep the demos until August/September.
Auburn Honda gave me a quote for $25,700. I was going to grab at the deal, but they didn't have the color I wanted. I gave this qoute to local Sac dealers and they would say, "We can't justify giving an Ody to you at that price." I kept trying and ended up giving the qoute to Yuba City Honda. They were happy to BEAT the quote and sold it to me AT INVOICE, $25,527. However, I believe there were dealer incentives going on at that time. They may have expired by now.
Even though Ody's are the going minivan, I was not willing to pay anything close to the MSRP. Even $1500 off seemed like a rip off. I saved close to double that.
My recommendation...if the dealers are unwilling to come down right now...just be patient for awhile.
recently, my family just bought a brand new ody's from Honda of Slidell. i thought we had a pretty good deal on it. well, the price we negociated isn't always the price we end up paying. we ended paying almost 500 extra dollars. at first they told me they ONLY gonna charge 285 for dealer fee and all the required goverment fees. they left license and sales tax empty. we know how much the sales tax is gonna be, but we was confused about the license fee, becuase we already see a $54 for tag. but the sales people told it would only be like $12. well, after we sign the first paper, they printed out another paper with all the fees on it again and it all changed. they actually charged me, besides the $285 dealer's fee(which they said is all they charge),there is another document fee of $34. and they even charge me for the temporary tag. 34 dollars are not a lot, but i felt i was cheated. and they were dishonest. i hate that.
No! No! No! "The time is now". unless for financial reasons. You want the dealers to compete for your business. Believe me that takes time. You can be negotiating now with different dealerships(let them know that you are a serious buyer)"that will get their attention". Before you know it your van can be delivered by March,or you can be driving one home sooner. Trust me if you start doing your homework now, it'll pay off later.
After seeing your post of last week, I also tried very hard to get the 500 + invoice deal. However, I could not succeed (over phone though) and eventually walked out (went to another dealer) of the deal.
Philadelphia Honda people would not budge from the invoice plus 1000 dollars. When I told him someone from the NG had got the 500 + invoice deal, he said it was 31948 - trade in value and trade in was 500. So, it looked like it was 31448 (500 + invoice).
Anyway, thanks to you I found out that we could get it for that price.
I have been searching for 2 months for a good deal for Odyssey 2005 EX-L in FL. All FL dearlers were asking high price. Finally I had to cross border and took EX-L from Walker Jones Honda, Route 1, Way Cross, GA. They offered me $30,500 OTD includes, destination, doc fee, taxes and tag. I paid $30,500.00 OTD with cross bar and lock nut . They calculated this price based on 6 % FL tax, But it actually 7% in Duval. I hope they will manage that. The internet sales Manager is very interesting and even personally delivered the van at my residence free in Jacksonville. ( free delivery over 50 miles). The van has only 3 miles on it made in Jan 2005!. The other best quote I got from Coggin Honda, St.Augustine but no vehicle available. Worst quote was from Steve Lucas Honda Jacksonville $5000 over MSRP!! Courtessy honda, Orlando used to give good deals for 2004 models not for 2005 models.
So FL is great but not for buying Honda van.
Thanks to all who contributed to this board and shared their experience.
None of the San Antonio dealers seemed very interested in finding (or even selling)a Touring with Nav/RES. Champion Honda in Corpus Christi had what I was looking for and they were very easy to deal with. This is the second Odyssey I have bought from them. (both good experiences.)
I purchased Honda Care 7/100,000/0 deductible nia internet from Dick Brooks Honda in Greer SC. Price was $1089 with no arguments. Very easy to work with.
"Dulney - dealer cost on the 7yr/100,000 with $0 deductible is $1,050 (I saw the book after I paid $1,225 for it)."
I know. But plenty of dealerships are willing to accept $25-$50 over this "cost". I put the word "cost" in quotes because we really don't know whether this trully is the dealer's cost or if there's also a certain "kickback" from Honda for every policy sold (kind of like dealer holdback).
Thanks for the info. I might have to do that. Lost out on the 2.9% for which I was already approved. Hoping they might (have to) revisit that program if sales slip starting March.
I found one for $1500 off MSRP....($33110)......anyone have a good lease deal for 3 yrs/15K per year.........I am interested in the monthly payment, and what you had to put down?
Additionally - how do I find the residual value for the vehicle after 3 yrs/15K miles? Does the dealer give me that value, or is it negotiable up front?
"CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW TOURING"!!!! I think the Pax tires will grow on you. It's not a bad tire, when you ride on them for a while an find out all the benefits of having them. Me personally I like them, cause this is the only tire I know that can stir up so much contraversy. I didn't here no bad reports even with there limited Honda and Michelin Pax service centers. By the way you got a great deal. someone will look at this post an hopefully be inspired, not to get ripped off by DEALERSHIPS AND MSRP.
From Louisville, Kentucky comes the following report:
Purchased (on order) an EX-L RES, OTD price of $31,670.39 ($500.00 over invoice).
Breakdown:
1. Sale price: $29,487.00 (invoice + $500.00 + destination fee).
2. State tax (6% in Kentucky): $1750.14
3. Licensing fee: $25.00
4. Transfer fee: $9.00
5. Dealer title charge: $9.85
6. Document preparation: $389.40 (offset this unconscionable fee by insisting on cargo tray & leather-wrapped steering wheel being thrown in [$389.40 doc fee – $175 in accessories = $214.40 doc fee] EXORBITANT Doc fees should not be tolerated!!!).
7. Final (OTD) balance due: $31,670.39
My tactics used on-site (simply tell the truth you DON’T NEED the product):
1. Announced, from the outset, I’m an “invoice buyer; if other folks are paying close to MSRP, that’s their problem; let’s talk invoice.”
2. “I don’t need the van now; I am happy to wait for oil prices (or Honda’s increased production, etc., etc., etc.) to slow your sales and/or at least reduce the price.”
3. “I am in discussions with other dealerships.”
4. “I think I’d like to confer with my spouse tonight unless you can make an offer here and now that we can’t refuse.”
From the first, my experience with the dealer was a good one. They struck me as candid and curt. If anything, I was a bit underhanded insofar as I asked the sales manager to excuse himself at some point so that I could ‘confer with my wife’ over his $500.00 + invoice offer (brought him down from his original offer of $1000.00 over invoice). I then phoned a neighboring Honda dealership then and there to see if they could SUBSTANTIALLY beat the deal I had in hand. I told the competing dealership I was sitting at ______ dealership and had, in hand, $500 + invoice on an EXL RES and that they had five minutes to call me back to talk me out of it.
They predictably called back w/in a few minutes and stated that they “ could do that.”
“What? What do you mean you can do that? You’ll match it?! Who cares if you can match it?! Don’t you mean that you can do better?!” [Pause customer rep runs to sales manager].
Seconds later: “ we’ll do $400.00 + invoice.”
“Thank you; good day.” Click. I wasn’t going to unseat myself for $100.00. At that point, it was invoice or the deal in hand was going through. Thanks to all for posting on this site. All contributors helped me immensely, so I merely wanted to give a little something back. Any Kentucky area folks looking for a similar deal, I have your dealership. Folks who fared significantly better than I, more power to you!! Happy Hunting to All!
I am near a dealer that has 6 2004 Ody's remaining on their lot. 1 LX, 2 EX Cloth, 2 EX Cloth DVD, and one EX behind the fence that I cannot see the options. I'd like to purchase the EX cloth, and I am hoping that someone can give me an idea to what invoice was and how much below invoice I should offer for this car. Edmund has moved on to 2005 and does not have 2004 info available any longer. Any help would be appreciated.
I know the dealership you bought from. My brother and I just bought two 05' Pilot's from them a couple of weeks back. They really do mean "nobody walks away because everybody saves". They truly have the best deal's in the Louisville and Southern Indiana area. I had a van and wanted to try a SUV for a few years. Maybe when my lease is up in 42 months the Odyssey will be comparable to the 04 deals this summer. I love my Pilot. Hope equally with your new Odyssey. Happy driving.
You can try www.cars.com if edmunds no longer has info and you find the invoice price on the 04 Odyssey. I am not sure if Honda is still giving the $500.00 dealer cash. If so, I would start at the least $1200-1400 below invoice for this van. This would include the 3% holdback and dealer cash. If the dealer barks tell them you are basically buying a used van since it is already a year old. The EX cloth W/DVD is great but make sure you take a good long test drive because the seats are very hard in the cloth and the road noise. I would also confirm the van's Vin# is not part of the transmission recall. These are just a few things to think about. Hope this helps. Happy hunting.
In addition to the cargo tray, a leather steering wheel--and NOT a mere wrap--was the bargain we struck to offset the lofty ($389) doc fee our dealer charged ; in all, the deal was EXL RES w/cargo tray & leather steering wheel for (OTD) $31,670.39. Not sure how much the leather wheel runs...anyone know? Sales manager suggested approx. $300-$400.
rorr, I couldn't agree with you more. My brother is a financial manager for a dealership in Atlanta so I understand how car dealerships work so when a car salesperson thinks I'm in their showroom because I "need" their product and not willing to give me a fair deal, it bothers the heck out of me. Toyota and Honda dealers are about the worst. It's easier to buy Lexus or Acura than Toyota/Honda.
I'm happy to restate my key point/bargaining chip in case I wasn't clear : I did not NEED (i.e. require) the mini-van. In fact, if Honda stopped producing vehicles this instant such that my bargained-for van was no more, life would go on. What's more...I'd somehow find happiness. Surprised?!! Does that shock you?!! You're selling wheeled vehicles sir, not crack.
Thanks for the info odysseus1. I am in Northern KY and am looking at purchasing an 05 EX-L. I've determined the vehicle, but haven't sent out emails to dealerships yet for pricing. I would be interested in which dealer you worked with as Louisville is not very far from me.

I know. But plenty of dealerships are willing to accept $25-$50 over this "cost". I put the word "cost" in quotes because we really don't know whether this trully is the dealer's cost or if there's also a certain "kickback" from Honda for every policy sold (kind of like dealer holdback).
Additionally - how do I find the residual value for the vehicle after 3 yrs/15K miles? Does the dealer give me that value, or is it negotiable up front?
Thanks
Then why are you there? We hear that old line pretty often.
My wife and I 'wanted' a Sienna. The local Toyota dealers interpreted that as 'needed' a Sienna.
They were wrong.
Thankfully, some of the local Honda dealers correctly understood that, indeed, we didn't NEED their product. They became much more competitive.
And can you PM me the salesperson you used.
Thanks
I'm happy to restate my key point/bargaining chip in case I wasn't clear : I did not NEED (i.e. require) the mini-van. In fact, if Honda stopped producing vehicles this instant such that my bargained-for van was no more, life would go on. What's more...I'd somehow find happiness. Surprised?!! Does that shock you?!! You're selling wheeled vehicles sir, not crack.
Thanks.
