Hi, Did your price of $32,810 for the EXL R&N include the destination charge?
  • pps88pps88 Member Posts: 6
Yes, the $32,810 included destination (i.e. my total was $2000 off of MSRP).

Paid $25450 plus tax/title on May 21 for 2005 EX cloth with mud guards in southwest Ohio, Hidy Honda. Best deal starting with internet quotes from 5 dealers in the area. Thanks to all for the useful info on this board.

    Hello!

I have already purchased my EXL with RES and NAV in Los Angeles. Below is one of the transactions (nearly), and wanted to see what more experienced buyers thought of the transaction.

I got a call from Internet Sales at Honda World Downey on the 30th of Apr. Asked what my best quote was and I told them that it was $32,003, and he said that he will knock another $500 off that if I come and do the paperwork that weekend. I guess even though Sun was the 1st of May, it still counts as the previous month. This was a fantastic deal, and so drove down on Sun. afternoon to take care of things. They were expecting the van in 5 to 10 days time, and I decided on the Slate Green with Olive. They offered $21,250 for the trade (2004 Odyssey EX with DVD and 5800 miles), and $31,503 (invoice is $31,364) for the ’05. As the difference on the trade was high between what I owned ($22,800) to this one, I sort of was not happy. So, the compromise was they will give $22K for the trade, and the new van is $32, 300, which was still a great deal. Even though I was not planning on doing finance or lease they wanted me to fill a credit application which was not a problem. Then the topic of how the present van was going to be handled came up. Their solution was that I come back on Mon. (2nd) to hand in the van and they will give me a rental. I didn’t like the solution, but sort of was willing to live with it. But, the one that got me was that they wanted me to hand a check for $30K that they will cash that Tue to pay off my trade. My take was that they have my van already, and they have most of my money, and what do I have? What if the van does not arrive for a month, or it is damaged for some reason, I will be stuck with a rental and my 2 car seats for whatever time they will take to get me the new van. I really felt that I would be their hostage. What I told them was that I can live with the rental thing, and maybe a deposit, but this was asking for too much. I got the hell out of there. Tried to talk on Mon. to the same guy who called me of Sat. and he totally brushed me off, and said try back at the end of the month. Some of the other dealers that I spoke to found this whole last part of the transaction pretty strange. What they said was that Downey would have to ask me fill a form (don’t remember the exact name, but something similar to a rental agreement) and I would still be able to drive my van till the new one comes in, and maybe ask for a deposit. Thoughts??

    Regards,

    Emil

I am in Central Florida, and was offered $1200 over invoice for the Touring Odyssey with DVD and NAV. Total price including destination is $36,338 (excluding dealer fee of $498 and tax/tag). Is this a good deal?

Hello, My price at Clawson Honda in Fresno at $32,160 included destination as well. Great transaction.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
It's an okay deal for Central Florida. It sounds as though the market is cooling off there. $1200 over with no dealer fee would be a fine price there. Have you tried the store in Daytona Beach? They offered the best price I could find in your area when I was shopping for my dad a couple of months ago.

Paid $29,500 + taxes, tags, destination, proc fee ($100) for a Ocean mist (blue) odyssey at College Park Honda in MD. Approx. $650 over invoice + free dealer protection package (front and rear mud guards, wheel locks, etc).

Here is how my breakup is.
Van Price = $32100 Which includes Destination Price of $500.
    Add $900 For 7Yr/100000 Warrenty
    Add $1199 For accesories.
So value of the Van before any taxes is $34199.
Other added amount is for taxes , lic and registration.

    What do you think?

Lurker, never posted before....I need some help!!
My husband and I are trying to buy the EX-L with RES.
The info here is GREAT and would be ideal if we were doing a straightforward purchase.

Unfortunately we are trading in our 2002 Traliblazer EXT (cloth, with DVD 54k miles,2wd). We owe $10700 on it and Kelley Blue Book says $12700 / edmunds $12990.

We have a dealer offering the Odyssey we want for 30488..and without giving us specifics on trade in, etc. Is saying 490 / Mo for 60 mo @ 5% incl TTL. (We are giving an additional 3k down, plus the trade in)

We THINK he must be being fair on the trade in, but we are not the most knowledgeable car buyers. We usually drive them into the ground (so we've only purchased 2 cars before...and accord and the trailstinker), but this trailblazer is proving NOT to be reliable. Keeping it til it is paid off will not work in our favor.
TIA for any input. Are we getting a fair deal? If not, advice?

    Thanks, thanks, thanks

Has anyone purchased thru the program w/ the State Employee's Credit Union. We're interested in an EX w/o leather, but would like a DVD player.

Is it true that the DVD player is only a dealer installed option? If it is, can you still get one with that option through the credit union?

    thanks

Hello, I am getting EXL R&N from one of the central CA dealer for $32,363 including destination. They are throwing in wheel locks for free. I am going to complete the transcation during long weekend. I will reveal the dealer's name after I complete the transcation.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
ks96, you absolutely must treat the transaction as though it is 3 separate deals:

    1) New car price;

    2) Value of trade-in; and

    3) Financing particulars.

Your post discusses #1 and #3 but not #2. How much will they give you for the Chevy? You need a hard number. Also, do you get a sales tax credit on the value of your trade?
  • daedae Member Posts: 143
Is it true that the DVD player is only a dealer installed option?

There are zillion of aftermarket options, some of them are quite nice and some quite cheap. I would not bother with the dealer. It will be a rip-off.

For money you save on payments for not having the dealer install, you can finance an extraordinary good system - if you are short on cache.

I am planning to buy an EX model in the Atlanta area this coming weekend. The quotes I have gotten are $300 to $700 over invoice. They all want to add a Doc. (documentation) fee of $250 to $500. Does this seem like a fair price?

I've also been told they will have special financing rates starting Friday that may be as low as 2.9% to 3.9% for 60 month.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Anyone had some good experiences lately with Memorial Day coming up? Trying to see if $1000 or less over invoice is realistic. Thanks!
  • jraldermanjralderman Member Posts: 1
    Hi Lanetk,

Just curious which dealerships you have been speaking with. I am in NE Atlanta looking at Gwinnett Place, Mall of GA and Milton Martin Honda. I'm in the market for a 05 Touring with DVD/Nav or an EX-L with DVD/Nav. The prices you received seem pretty decent (minus the doc fees).

    Your reply is appreciated.

Also, I heard about the special finance rates for this weekend too .

    Folks:

We live in Cincinnati area and no dealer around here was willing to talk close to invoice. We have a Honda dealer just a couple of miles and three salespeople ignored invoice talk. Ok, so we hit the usual internet sites and Costco auto buying program. Costco has no dealer in SW ohio but one near Cleveland and Indy. Indy dealer was willing to knock off 2k off MSRP which is 39010. Trolling the Edmunds forums (thanks guys), asked a few more with emails and their site. Got a few. But I was really impressed with Voss Honda in Tipp City. First offer was 700 over invoice (which is 35038 with Transportation) which is 35738 but they included free splash guards which is $99 retail. Took the offer. But they did not have any Touring with R&N. My wife wanted Red. The sales person was terrific. He arranged for an on-air trade with a dealer in Columbus. Deal was done on May 6, Ody built on May 11. Arrived in Columbus 5/24 (somebody at Honda couldn't transfer the paperwork to Voss). Voss picked it up yesterday, installed splash guards, washed, filled up the tank. We arrived at 7PM, the sales person stayed with us till 9:15PM explaining everything on this loaded van. They also sold us 7/75 extended warranty at the same price mentioned in these forums. They did not pressure us to buy anything extra. Price breaks down as 35738 + 100 doc fee + 875 (7/75 Extended Warranty) + 7% OH tax + 25.5 Title fee = 39308. They also got me a terrific loan deal with Honda/Chase. They went through hoops to have the title in my wife's name when I had applied for the loan. Great people. Great service. And they are President's medal holders for Ohio. What more can you ask? I hope the Cincinnati dealers come down from their high perch.

    This van is cool.

    Dave.

I just finished dealing with Holler Honda (in Winter Park) and Courtesy Honda (in Sanford). Each of them kept calling and trying to beat the other dealer's price! I think it really helps to buy at the end of the month, when they are trying to meet their quotas. Holler called today and said I could have it for $500 over invoice (plus $500 dealer fee), but I had to come TODAY to buy the van. Courtesy agreed to the same price, but didn't pressure me, so I decided to go with Courtesy! Plus Courtesy is running a special--giving out a free digital camera with each Honday purchase during the Memorial Day weekend. I'm picking up the van in the morning! Can't wait!

Planning on buying this weekend. Here's the best quote so far in the Chicago metro: "AS WE SPEAK I HAVE BLACK/BLACK ODY TOURING RES/NAV AND 2 BLACK WITH IVORY IN STOCK AND YOU CAN BUY TOURING RES/NAV FOR $37300 INCLUDING DESTINATION FEE" - Grand Honda. Anyone have an opinion on whether this is good or not? No trade in to worry about in this deal.
  • andy73andy73 Member Posts: 5
I believe there will be some type of special on financing over this Memorial day weekend (offered by Honda). I already heard something on the radio this morning that one of the dealership is offering 0% / 60mo on all 05 models. You will probably get this without getting too much discount on vehicle.

Also, I would like to find out what would be good price to pay for EX-L and/or EX-L RES in ATL.

I am willing to drive few hours to save $$$$.
  • weitogoweitogo Member Posts: 7
I do not think you are getting a good deal. If you meant that your interest rate is 5%, your 60 payment for $490 a month will have the discounted value of almost 26K. Plus the down payment you have, your total payment is about 29K. ($28965 to be exact)

Now look at the price you have $30488. I do not know the tax and license fee you have to put, but I assumed that you have to pay 7% on $30488 for everything. That comes to $32622.

The difference between $32622 and $28965 is your trade in value, which comes to $3657.

You are getting a raw deal! And they are being very tricky about it!! I would avoid that dealer if I were you. I hope you have not purchased the vehicle. In addition, I think you want to talk to the dealership about pricing, trade-in and financing separately. I think they want to confuse you when they talk in payment terms. I do not know if you have Excel at home. In Excel, there is NPV function that helps you calculate how much you are really paying when you make monthly payment.

    Hope it helps.

Thanks so much to both who have responded.
We did get a "firm number" out of the dealer. How does this look?:

    ODY EX-L RES
    Price: 30486
    Trade : 13500
    Payoff on trade : 10700

I think I posted earlier that the KBB value of our truck is only btwn 12500-13000. (CARMAX offered to buy it outright for 12500) With what we owe (10700) do you not think that the 3657 you figured on the trade is fair?

The number they are giving us on our trade seems a tad inflated to me...but I know they sometimes do this to keep from reducing the sale price.

We took previous posters advice and removed financing from all conversations. (Besides, once seeing @ 5% it was in our range, we knew the promotions for 3.9 were only in our favor).

We are hoping to handle this in the next 2 days. Please let me know what you think. This has been so much help so far!

I HAVE A QUOTE FROM A DEALER HERE IN SUBURBAN CHICAGO FOR AN EX L .HE HAS QUOTED 29266 OTD.THIS INCLUDES TAX AND ALL OTHER EXPENCES.WONDERING IF THIS PRICE SOUNDS OK
  • andy73andy73 Member Posts: 5
    Simple math here.

take your 29266/1.0X (X here is sales tax rate).

example, if sales tax for auto purchase is 6%, then you get

29266/1.06 = 27609. give it low $100 for documentation and couple other fees, you are purchasing this vehicle at $500 BELOW INVOICE price.

This is awesome deal, if they are telling it is OTD price. I feel that it is just vehicle price, and they will probably say, "plus, TAX, TITLE, & FEES".

    Good luck shopping!!! :confuse:

Hi, I would try to negotiate a better price the EX L-RES. The invoice is 29387. Currently it looks like you are getting more on the trade than KBB. I would build on that and get a better price for the van.

That is the model we are looking to as well. Three dealers gave us invoice+200 for EX-Cloth. When we changed our mind to EX-L RES, the only quote we have so far is invoice+500. We are still waiting for a couple more quotes to come in.

As the previous post said, you may want to wait for 0% financing.

I don't think you are getting a good deal...if you read few posts, I think most people are able to buy their vehicle at invoice for EX (no leather). I would try to get it at invoice or just over...

not $6-800 over invoice for ex cloth

I want to ask the forum about something that happened today with my purchase agreement. When they added up the figures, they forgot to add in the price of the auto-dimming mirror, so the price was about $400 less. I will go back tomorrow and do the honorable thing.

But one of my friends asked about what happens when there is a mistake in the final purchase price to the buyer's advantage, about whether the incorrect price stated is a legally binding price, and whether the dealership must honor it. I was curious to know if anyone had dealt with that, and what happened.
  • dhfddhfd Member Posts: 22
    Andy73,
thanks for the info. We still need to check w/ our credit union. They have a program w/ AAA. My brother in law got an SUV with them at invoice or 100-200 over.

I wasn't sure how good the 3% over deal was, since the Odyssey is typically in very high demand.
  • ramair1ramair1 Member Posts: 6
Well, I'm in the final process of negotiations. I'm looking at a 2005 Odyssey Touring with DVD and RES. Have received two low quotes. One is $36,123. The current low quote is $35,623. While this is still $1,000 over invoice, it seems to be as low as most dealers are willing to go on this model. I have seen numerous people paying in excess of $37,500 for this model. You need to negotiate better IMHO. I told the dealers right off the bat that I was taking bids. Anyone who submitted a "left field" bid would not get a second chance to do better. It didn't take long for them to get the hint.

Anyway, I'll post my final numbers once I close the deal. FYI - Don't let them tell you "This vehicle is very limited in availability". Honda will make as many as people order. This may have been true last year, but there are plenty out there now. If Honda refuses to deal, use the "T" word (Toyota Sienna). Watch their attitude change... ;)
  • dhfddhfd Member Posts: 22
How/when do you bring up options and/or accessories when bargaining?

A friend said to finalize the price of the vehicle, then talk options.

But I've seen on edmunds, and others invoice prices for option packages, seems to make sense to also ask for invoice on those too?

We're interested in adding a DVD player to an Ody EX (cloth). Just curious what others have offered/paid for this option.

    thanks,

We just bought a silver EX-L w/ RES & NAV for $32,864 + taxes, tags, etc. That's about $1500 over invoice. We had to hunt around quite a bit to find that deal. Most places were asking $2500 over if they even had one to sell, many didn't.

I don't know where you are getting this. Now, it's possible some dealers may be buying down the rate. If this is the case, those dollars have to come from somewhere.
  • ks96ks96 Member Posts: 7
Some dealers here (could be all, I only called 2 this morning) are doing the 1.9, 2.9, 3.9 on all their cars, Odysseys included. Through June 1.
  • jjtrindcjjtrindc Member Posts: 24
If you are hearing about this rate, can you tell us what states. Just spoke to my dealer in Maryland - who I closed with yesterday. He said that nothing came up on his computer for the Odyssey. Special financing deals were available on other cars. Same information is confirmed on the Honda financing website. Please let me know if you hear anything different.
