We're back up to $2.19 here, but the price had jumped from $2.07 to $2.15 to $2.19 in a day and a half. Then on Monday, it started in the morning at 19, went to 15, then 17 and back to $2.19 over the course of 6 hours.

If the price as the pump is THAT closely tied to the commodity market price, then why CAN'T it go down AS FAST as it goes up??? :surprise:

....is meant for posting gasoline prices and not natural gas prices, but I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to point out what was said on the news last night. The report was that natural gas prices will rise even more due to the UNEXPECTED cold spell we're currently expereincing. Well, Duh! It is Decemeber and hello, news flash, December is winter time and it tends to get cold during winter. Duh! How dare time move forward in such a sneaky way that winter arrives without anyone knowing ahead of time it was coming! Just how stupid do the energy companies think consumers are? Are these price hikes legitimate or is it just more gouging by the energy companies? I think you know what I think.
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
I'm not putting this one on the energy companies. It's the TRADERS setting the day to day (hour to hour??) pricing. Just now on the radio, the story was about how the traders would be influenced by having to drive to work in the snow.

I agree... a great big DUH!!!

Just filled my truck at Costco for $2.189, down from $2.229 on Wednesday. Don't think they will drop it any lower before the first of the year.

That is a great price out in CA. It is not much cheaper here in FL.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
It's up 2 cents at the Sunoco at Rhawn and Verree in NE Philly again! Regular is now $2.09 and Ultra is $2.39! I hope this isn't the beginning of an upward trend!

a bit here. Last night I put 93 octane in the truck, at $2.359 per gallon. Last week it was $2.259 per gallon. Still, it's nice to get a fill-up for under 30 bucks. There had been a few times where it cost damn near 40 to fill that truck up!

Topped off the motor home south of Phoenix. Diesel was $2.299 unleaded $2.229. Big truck stop at Interstate 10 and Wild Horse exit. Best price for diesel on the trip.

Gary, what kind of Motorhome do you have? My dream is to buy one and keep it for about five or six years travelling the country.

I've rented for the last two years, first, a 31 ft. C-class with one slide and then a 38 ft. Diesel pusher with 3 slides... got about 8.5 mpg's in the diesel over a 2,000 mile trip. I spent about $650 for diesel.

We bought a 2006 Forest River MB Cruiser. Picked it up in Colorado Springs. We put 1400 miles on the RV in 4 days. It is easy to get 500 miles on a tank of diesel. Our average for the trip was 21.79 MPG. Not bad for a new vehicle that weighs 8000 LBS. The Mercedes diesel with 5 speed pulled all the mountain grades with amazing ease. The toughest is Interstate 8 just East of San Diego. Sea Level to 4000 feet in not too many miles. I dropped it into 4 gear and pulled it at 65 MPH the whole way. It cruises 75 MPH at 2400 RPM. Check them out. Several companies are building them on the same chassis.

    PS
Total fuel bill was $154 for the 1391 miles. Diesel is still $2.699 in San Diego. That is for BP/ARCO ULSD.

Gary, I have looked at the MB Cruiser's and they are nice vehicles and get excellent fuel mileage. A guy in my car club just bought the MB Cruiser last year after having a larger A-class unit. His set-up has the full bath in the back of the unit. I've seen several configurations and even one that had the bed that was above the living room area (had the high-top) made for Airstream.

At this point, I would prefer a large A-class with four slides between 38-40 feet. I like the units from Holiday Rambler and Monaco (same parent company). The units have an MSRP of around $350K so I would have to think seriously about this venture before I jump in.

    Happy Motorhoming! Mark :)

The Exxon in Cabin John, MD, is now a Chevron. Prices dropped accordingly, $2.39.

Prices used to be the highest in the region, now they are 5 cents below the Exxon down the street at Montgomery Mall. Cheaper than Georgetown, too.

Still, I was driving near Burtonsville and there were a couple of gas stations on Rt. 28 that were in the $2.18-19 range.

$2.45 in Georgetown and $2.55 at Montgomery Mall.

Again, big price increments, as opposed to small drops when they head down.

on my way into work I think the Citgo was around $2.459 for premium and the Shell was around $2.519. I've been driving my truck lately, which in its old age has developed an appetite for premium, so I haven't paid much attention to the lower grades.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
Our Costco and local ARCO station has been stagnant at $2.189 for over a week. Shell across the street from ARCO charging $2.419.

Regular was down to $2.05 two weeks ago at the Sunoco at Rhawn and Verree in NE Philly. It shot up to $2.21 then back down to $2.20 yesterday and now $2.16 today. Weird!

Up to $2.29 here in State College. Seems to have broken the pattern of moving with the crude oil market in lockstep.
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 25,681
and the truck was sucking fumes, so I stopped at a Sunoco station. Now somebody tell me, what's the purpose of having FOUR grades of gasoline?! :confuse: I could see it if they were offering some super high octane, but in this case it was just 87, 89, 91, and 93. And 93 was only 1 cent per gallon more ($2.499 versus $2.489)
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
That's simple... it's because there are a lot of people that believe that 4 blades shave closer than 3... so why not 4 grades???

North side of Chicago, observed from my bus seat this morning, at admittedly one of the pricier stations around (BP/Amoco at Belmont/Racine):

    $2.569=87 octane
    2.669=89 octane
    2.769=93 octane

Very interesting on my California to Virginia drive over the last 3 weeks. Below are the prices I paid.

Landed in CA on Dec 10, hit the road on the 14th and arrived home on the 27th.

All prices are for 87 or 88 octane except where noted (87-88 is mid grade in NV, UT, and CO).

    LA: $2.239, Shell 12/10
    LA: $2.259, Mobil 12/12
    Bishop, CA: $2.479, Shell 12/14
Ely, NV: $2.399, Shell 12/15 (85 octane) Realized maybe I shouldn't be using this stuff.
    Ely, NV: $2.469, Shell 12/15 (87 octane)
eastern UT: $2.299, Sinclair 12/16 (didn't know the "dinosaur" brand still lives!)
    eastern CO: $2.349, Phillips 66 12/18
    western KS: $2.259, no-name 12/20
    Kansas City: $2.059, Shell 12/22
    western IN: $2.189, Shell 12/23
    Indianapolis: $2.059, BP 12/25
    Elkins, WV: $2.259, Kroger 12/26

Most interesting that the large metro areas had lower prices than the boonies. The Rocky Mountains of CO had prices a good 10 cents more than in the eastern and far western parts of the state. We were running close to empty going up the 11,312-foot Monarch Pass, but filled up at the bottom of the downhill side.

Haven't gotten gas here yet in central VA (home), but it's running at $2.049 at Hess, Liberty, and East Coast, plus one cent more at Exxon as of yesterday. :)

sorry about the topic change, but i could not find any similar topics. i am a cop working a hit and run investigation from last night involving a fatality. there was limited physical evidence except a piece of a headlight door that i have narrowed down to a 1995 jeep cherokee. the portion that i have is a dead match except in thickness and the outer lip is about 2mm larger than the vehicles that i have directly compared the piece with. could an aftermarket part be the difference that i am seeing? the plastic is black in color and much more rigid than the stock headlight doors that i have looked at. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Probably start off in the Jeep Cherokee discussion. Perhaps some of the Cherokee owners posting there can give you an assist.

No offense intended, but I think you'll find Indy to be Dullsville compared to DC. When I lived there for a short time in the 70s, it was called "Naptown," from IndiaNAPolis.

There was also what my wife and I called a "burnt potato" smell emanating from somewhere on the south side of town, but I think that's gone now. Lots of half-empty strip malls, though!

Currently at 2.15 for reg. Was 2.05 as recently as early this week.

Has been as low as 1.88 at a few stations in the past month. Don't understand the reason for the recent spike. Oh wait, wasn't there just a holiday recenly that would have put millions on the road???
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 25,681
it looks like the local Citgo was still holding at $2.219/$2.319/$2.399. Seems like it's been at those prices for awhile now.

The Costco and ARCO near me in San Diego just went down another penny to $2.149 yesterday. No Holiday spike for the San Diego crowd this year. Maybe our Christmas bonus for getting the shaft most of the year.

    87 - $2.219
    89 - $2.379

I've been paying 43 cents less per gallon for diesel at Sunoco... that's about $13.00 less per tank on a 30-gallon fill!

Do you guys have to post the "9 tenths"? We all know that fuel is charged as... 2.199.
It makes it so much easier to read without that "tenths" figure.

I always find my eyes looking at the last two digits and have to concentrate more on what you are typing. Is it just me that it bothers? :confuse:
