Mazda6 Hatchback

I'm 6', but with a long torso. I have trouble sitting in the front seat of some cars(The previous gereration Acura TL was particularly bad). So, I may not be the best test case, but I can say the sedan has a little more headroom (IIRC), but the wagon has way more.

Can't say that I noticed the speakers, but I would imagine they have to be in the doors. There isn't any place on the rear deck for them (being as there is none).

I ordered mine last week. Invoice + $500 less any incentives available at delivery. Amazing that Mazda thinks I may be able to order in another month or 2.

Same here... although I actually got in touch with a dealer through here and put the order in months ago for the first one for his dealership. I'm so glad Mazda picked up the order and it's scheduled to be made the week of Feb. 9. Hey, that's next week!! Whoo-hooooo!! I hope they get it to the dealership by the end of Feb.

Please be nice to my car, folks at the plant! It's a gray MT 5-door, fully-optioned, heading to CT for delivery. Thank you!

I saw a truckload of Mazdas heading from Phoenix to Tucson yesterday. No 5-doors on it as far as I could tell.

sorry, but i just had to laugh! i used to hang out at this forum wondering when mazda would finally release their mazda 6 hatchback and wagon, but i got tired of brushing all the cobwebs away from my drooping eyelids--Zzzzz... wha? i'm still here? this must be car purgatory, being forced to wait and wait for something that never appears. but wait, is that something on the horizon i see? why yes, yes! it is! it is!! at last!!!!! the subaru legacy turbo wagon and the volvo v50 wagon and the mitsubishi sportback and the dodge hemi magnum wagon and ZZzzzzzZZzzzzzzZZZzzzzzz.......

Seriously, the Mazda6 hatch is in production and should be on rail or truck soon (if not today). All of those other cars you mentioned except for the Mitsu are going to be a longer wait.

Mazda6 has always said "1st quarter" for the hatch.

from the side, the 6 hatch has a similar profile to the old acura integra hatchback, especially around the C pillar, but longer and with 4 doors of course. i'm still waiting for the wagon myself. lookin' good though...

Just confirmed with my dealer today that there will be no incentives offered for the 5-door or the wagon. The current Mazda6 financing incentives do not apply.

So you can get the trunk version for 4,000$ off sticker but the hatch/wagon you have to pay full price for? I'm sure people will either a) get the sedan instead OR b) look elsewhere.

The 03 6's have incentives to clear them out to make way for the 04's. If people are chomping at the bit and waiting in line for these models why would Mazda offer incentives right off the bat. Wait till the 05's come out then you'll get your incentives on the 04's.

The incentives will be there as soon as dealers are fully stocked up. It always works that way. Unless the 5-doors are flying off the lots it will be the same for this one.

Hoping for incentives is like begging for reduced resale value.

I hope, instead, that the economy takes a huge turnaround, the stock market rallies, unemployment drops and we can all afford these cars without the incentives :-)

For those astute Canadian viewers, there's even a base Canadian-spec Mazda6 Sport in the background of one of those pictures. As an FYI to those in the US, the lowest trim for the Canadian-spec Mazda6 Sport does not have the side sills, spoiler, etc... (it's optional for that trim). This also proves that Canadian-spec Mazda6 Sports are being produced along as well, which means they'll hit the Canadian scheduled release date of late March.

I understand where you're coming from. But Mazda has already announced the Mazda6 Sport and Sport Wagon, so this is a very different situation to leaking out un-announced info (like with the '05 Mustang).

I stand by putting up these links, especially since it can clearly be seen that these pictures were taken on the other side of a fence so its not like the photographer was trespassing or anything. The pictures themselves were not taken by me (I'm just cross-posting these for the users here, I'm in Toronto, Canada).

took a look at the pric info. The i hatch does get a bit pricey with options, especially with Mazda's bundling requirements. If you want a 4 cyl with a moonroof, abs and a power seat, you are in for low 25's, which is getting up there for a NA 4 cyl stick. Add the AT, and you are up over 26k.

at least the V6 only adds about $1,200, since ABS is standard (add $450 if you want the air curtains and SAB).

Hard to imagine they will sell a lot of 28K hatchs.

Also shows what a great value the 3s is.

put your right index finger next to your chin/lip area...and wipe. I drooled the first time I saw the Hatch too. Wong...inside the fence/outside the fence, once you enter the gate, you've entered a Federal Free Trade Zone. If your camera hasn't snapped the pics you're still publishing them. If AAI wanted them released they're capable of advertising the products we produce.

It's kind of shame that Mazda drops the fender mounted blinker on the 6 (whereas they left it on the 3).

It's kind of a neat-o thing that you don't find too often in north america and it's actually a pretty decent safety feature.

I appreciate the photos. Redc0ugar, I have some questions and ask that you please forgive my ignorance: (1) What is the significance of being in a "Federal Free Trade Zone"? (2) How is someone posting images of finished hatches sitting in the lot any different from/worse than (or any more undesirable, from a plant management standpoint, than) your posting about the progress of Mz6 Hatch production (See post # 241 and onwards -- re: ramping up production and time to full production, etc.) and offering to track someone's car through production (post #243)?; (3) Is there restricted access to wherever the person who took the photos was standing when he took the photos? From what you wrote earlier it sounds as though this is the case (you mentioned a gate in your previous message). Is the gate open to the public or does entry require some sort of authorization?). I have no idea how things are set up and had assumed that it was possible for the general public to drive by and see the cars in the lot (like at a car dealership) so I didn't see anything wrong with (or out-of-the-ordinary about) someone taking photos of cars sitting in a lot and posting them online. Thanks for any info you can provide.

1) I suggest you speak with a gov't employee or AAI Officer to get information on the significance of a "Federal Free Trade Zone". 2) The vague dates given for launching the hatch...were also known by the press and the dealerships. Tracking a car...is a priviledge given to employees...they're also allowed to track theirs. It allows them to watch their car being built...and get a more precise idea of when it will be delivered. Please read post #246. 3) In order for the pictures to have been taken...the person would have been on private property. No...a factory is NOT a dealership.

Thanks for responding. I asked about the Free Trade Zone because you mentioned it in a previous message and it seemed to be important to the point you were trying to make. I didn't know if you were trying to say that photos aren't allowed in such zones or...?...but that's alright. Regarding the tracking, I can understand how a company would allow its employees to track *their own* cars (just another perk, like getting discounts on merchandise that you purchase from your own employer or getting to drive demo bikes/cars if you work at a dealership), but I didn't know that it would extend to tracking *anybody else's* car. My point was just that I didn't expect that posting photos of the cars in the lot would be seen in a worse light than tracking a person's car through production for them, especially when, as was mentioned, the fact that they were being produced and would be shipping soon wasn't a secret. I don't recall suggesting that a factory was a car dealership. If I recall correctly, I simply questioned whether it was possible for the general public to drive by the factory (without needing a special pass or other such authorization) and see the cars on the factory lot as they can at a car dealership's lot. For example, I can drive by a dealership and take photos without being on their property, without needing a pass or other such special authorization to be in the general area. Someone posted photos of the Mazda3s at a British Columbia port before people actually started receiving them so I wasn't surprised to see 6 Hatch photos before they began shipping. The people who posted the Mz3 and Mz6 Hatch photos didn't say anything about having to sneak around or avoid security to get the photos so I thought nothing of it. Anyway, thanks for your time. Sorry for taking the discussion somewhat off topic, everyone.

A port in B.C. isn't the same as "private property". I know you weren't implying that a factory and a dealership are the same...but I'm not sure how legal it is to enter private property to snap pictures. The angle @ which the pics were taken, the taker would have been on AAI / Ford property. Employees are starting to get warnings on camera phones. Recently a Daimler-Chrysler employee was terminated because of pictures he snapped & posted. STICK as Rich recently posted...sales are NOT as bad as YOU want to believe. The 6's are awesome cars, my Husband and I are proud to build them.

Mazda in general should be doing anything it can to drum up interest in the product line and get bodies into the showroom. This isn't the 50's or 60's anymore, where they used to ship the cars under wraps, and have a big unveiling at the dealership.

Anyway, the cars where about to hit the dealerships (already have in fact), so it's not like someone broke into the design center, and stole the plans for the '07 models so the compitition can one up Mazda.

regardless, whoever took the pictures shouldn't have been on private property if they really were.

The Free Trade Zone designation is a designation which relates to importing or exporting components of a manufacturing process, and specifically controls when and if import/export duties are required to be paid. They are used extensively around the country when they can provide cost savings to the manufacturer.

Based on my knowledge I dont believe the FTZ has any impact on the above discussion.

I've been holding out on trading in my 626 in anticipation of the Mazda6 5-door. Pictures posted here make me believe it will be worth the wait. I'm in the Ford A/Z plan for Ford family members and wondering when the 5-door will be eligible for purchase under this program. Right away? Will there be a waiting period? Does anyone know? Thanks!

That new Scion tC hatchback is gonna give the 6-back some serious competition. It's less expensive and has (arguably) a better base engine, the bulletproof Camry four. It's probably not quite as roomy, however, and it's not as attractive, nor does it have 5 doors. But it's something to watch b/c the 6-back asking price seems a bit much.

I think you will realize how silly the comparison is when you see the size of the Scion. It should be pretty "Paseo" like in size. Not exactly the kind of vehicle that will draw a ton of cross comparisons with a mid-size 5-door.

No, the real competition for this car comes from Saab.

Does anyone know when the Mazda6 Hatchback (5 door) will be available? (not the wagon). I was wondering if anyone thinks there will be incentives, or will they try to rob us all in the begining for those who cannot wait? I have been researching the Mazda6 for several months, I am a little weary of getting it because of the unusually high price and the so called alignment and transmission problems. But I do love the look and the comfort. Any suggestions?

stickguy is right....the H/B has landed at my dealership so I expect they will be in your area soon. No incentives at this point. I expect mazda to make some incentive changes tomorrow or Wed, but no word on the H/B, I don't expect anything like the sedan. Maybe they will offer an owner loyalty incentive or something similar to the MZ3, but that is just wishful thinking.

Mazda has announced a launch special for the MZ6 H/B and wagon..... 2.9% for 60 months. This applies to the Northeast region. I don't have other region incentives, so check with your local dealers.
