I have seen this picture of the 2001 rangers and it has this EDGE package on it, does anybody know what exactly is that package, is it replacing the Trailhead package and it will have the 4x4 suspension??? If so will it be identical to the Mazda Troy Lee Series(as in maybe leather will be an option like the Troy Lee?)and one more thing, will the Mazda's be changing the front end styling to match its twin the ranger in 2001?
I am thinking of buying a new TRD Tacoma. I am wondering if the new Prerunner TRD is up to the task of running in snowy/icy conditions. Also I heard the rear diff disengages when the vehicle is traveling more than 5mph. Any info would be great!
getting ready to purchase a new truck. dealer has one of those "profit" scams of tacking on an appearance or undercoating package onto the msrp. i do not want this since the rust and paint warranty is 100,000 miles. how do i let them know that i do not want this option?? HELP!
Just say "I don't want all the extra profit for you on MY pickup". If they do not accept that, go walking. They work on the idea that you want the rig so bad that you will accept the deal that they offer. Just say "NO". If they want to sell it they will accept whatever you offer that is reasonable. Otherwise, take a hike down the road. I suggest that you don't try to steal the pickup, but don't accept their "take it or leave it" attitude either. I did that and they lost!! So whatever is fair, in your eyes.....
wesh1 - My son bought a used 92 Ford F150 extended cab, big v-8 engine, power accessories, etc 3 1/2 years ago. Last year with the speedometer reading over 90000 (I want to say 98000 miles), we had to replace first the engine (rod) and then around Thanksgiving, the tranny quit. Oh yeah, less than a month after he had bought it, the tranny had a problem that cost the dealer $1200 to fix. The only thing that saved us there was that the used truck warranty was still in place, although the dealer gave him some trouble. I don't know if this was an aberration or what for this model year; I am not that familiar with Fords. He will be through with his payments in November; hope we make it.
The thing you have to remember about used trucks is that you just don't know how they have been used. Whilst these days many trucks never carry more than a family and consider a driveway to off road; this hasn't always been the case. Even in your case - a 92, many trucks were worked hard and who knows what kind of long term impact that may have.
You're right, of course. Unless you know the owner of a used vehicle and how it has been used, it' a roll of the dice. Some folks have little or no problems, others aren't so lucky.
When I turn left in my new Silverado LS 2WD V6, it squeals. Turning right is OK. The truck doesn't even have to be moving. I turn the steering wheel left and it makes this noise. Any others out there?
CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM. I WANT TO PURCHASE A 2001 DODGE RAM 2500 4X4 WITH A V-10, BUT THERE ARE NONE TO BE SEEN IN THE NEAR FUTURE. MY LOCAL DODGE DEALER LET ME DRIVE A 2500 WITH THE CUMMINS DIESEL IN IT AND I WAS IMPRESSED.THE TRUCK WILL BE USED MOSTLY IN TOWN EVERY DAY AND I WON'T BE TOWING ANY HEAVY TRAILERS.I NO IT IS A WASTE, BUT WOULD THERE BE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE DIESEL DRIVING IT EVERYDAY IN TOWN W/O A LOAD ON IT. MY DEALER IS MAKING A REAL GOOD DEAL ON THIS TRUCK AND I WANT TO KNOW IF I SHOULD DO IT. I'VE NEVER OWNED A DIESEL BEFORE. THE V-10 IS AT LEAST 12 WEEK WAIT.
There is an ongoing issue here in California that I would like to get everyones thoughts on.
It has to do with CA fuel additives and poor fuel quality. Honestly, GM and the Fuel companies are simply pointing fingers. But the bottom line is I have a huge problem and I was hoping to get feedback.
Basically I have a 1999 Chevy C/K 1500 extended cab pickup truck with a huge flaw. My understanding is that it has to do with the fuel quality here in California.
I do know that this problem has been going on for quite some time as I would reference a letter C99066 dated November, 1999 directed to the attention of all Chevy owners of 96/97/98 models S-10, Blazer, Astro, C/K Pickup, Tahoe, Suburban, Chevy Van/Express or ‘P’ truck that is registered in California equipped with a 4.3L, V6, 5.0L V8 or 5.7L V8 engine.
The GM letter goes on to say that due to deposit build up on the sequential Central Port Fuel Injector SCPI poppet valves, they may cause the injectors to stick and/or remain closed. The letter also states that "most fuels" in California cause this condition. The letter indicates that GM is extending the window of the warranty to 10 years or 100,000 miles.
To date my 1999 truck has 20,000 miles on it and it has been in the shop on several occasions due to the "service engine soon light" Additionally, checks/repairs to the injection system have also been necessary. On two of the occasions 3 of the 8 injectors have been replaced and now I am having more sticking problems. At this point I have requested all injectors be replaced.
Seems logical to me. But GM won't budge. Dealer is saying it's a political issue and fuel companies say it's a injector flaw. GM Customer Support rep also said that this is not just a GM issue so I am asking, Ford owners, Dodge Owners, Toyota and Nissan Owners, are you having any fuel system problems??
I have opened a case file with GM so as to monitor and document the issue but I was wondering if anyone here could share any information. My hope is that there are other truck owners who may read this posting and share more information on the issue...
Have you driven a Ford lately? Try and check out a Ford dealer on one of their V10's. May do the trick for you. By going with a diesel you are in for loud experience...more so since you don't need it. Also costs more than a V10. Why are you considering Dodge anyway? Personally, I would go with a Chevy big block or a Ford V10. Just my opinion.
I CAN'T ARGUE WITH THAT MY FIRST CHOICE WAS THE F-250 SUPER DUTY WITH THE V-10, BUT ONCE AGAIN THOSE TRUCKS ARE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN IN MY AREA..THE DEALER SAID IT WOULD BE A 4 MONTH WAIT FOR THAT TRUCK AND THAT IS WHAT MADE ME LOOK AT THE DODGE. I NEVER KNEW IT WOULD BE SO DIFFICULT TO BUY A 3/4 TON TRUCK..I WAS QUOTED 27,300 FOR A XLT 4X4 LONGBED SD.I WAS JUST HOPING FOR DELIVERY BEFORE SUMMER.
MY UNCLE HAS A 97 GMC SONOMA WITH 10K ON IT AND HIS FUEL INJECTOR ALSO WENT OUT. IT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE MECHANIC SAID THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC (GM) SAID TO USE CHEVRON GAS AND TO USE THE CHEVRON GAS ADDITIVE EVERY 5 FILL UPS.. HE HAS THE 4.3 V6
i have a 1993 chevy s-10 2wd tahoe package pickup with a five speed and a 2.8 v6. i am installing a tach as an aftermarket add-on. does anyone know what the redline is for this particular engine? also, what are the torque and horsepower numbers for this truck? i cannot find the numbers anywhere. by the way, i love my chevy and i am getting 27mpg on the highway with it!!!
Someone mentioned to me not long ago that the Ford F-Seires pick up trucks are the best selling VEHICLE in the U.S. right now (not best selling truck, but best selling vehicle)? Can anyone tell me if this is true and how we can find out for sure? We're just curious and are thinking about purchasing a new pick up soon. Thanks.
I have a 1988 GMC pickup truck since it was born. The heater control system stopped working sometime ago but it still works sometimes but very erratically. Do I need to replace the display unit, which controls the whole system, or is there another source of the problem. The truck also has air. I get no air flow to the defroster outlet, nor do I get air flow out the floor outlets. Only through the dash vents no matter what mode you are in. Sometimes the fan motor will not operate and cannot be adjusted. Can anyone help?
Can anyone comment on the use of the "superchip" in terms of advantages and disadvantages? I just bought a 2001 Ford Supercrew 5.4L V8 and am quite happy with the performance, but everyone keeps telling me to install the "chip" and improve my performance and mileage. I would think the dealers would have already done that at the factory. Whats the big deal with this "chip"?
most manufacturers tune for worst case scenario, cheap fuel, lousy driving conditions, etc. so that the truck will run ok no matter what. When replacing the factory programming with a superchip, you are tuning for a set of specifics, like premium fuel, lower running temp, different shift points...in other words, you are tuning for performance. Most people are satisfied with the factory tune. If you are looking to "tweak" the performance of the 5.4, superchips are the way to go. Another alternative would be the Hypertech programmer which would allow you to tune for specific settings on shift points, fuel type, shift firmness, etc. Hope this helps.
I am in the market for a small pick-up truck to use as a second vehicle. I want a 5 speed, used, truck to help me haul stuff and to get around town with. I have recently purchased my dream car...BMW Z3 and it is killing me to drive it downtown to and from work every day. Any ideas on which is the best...Ford? Isuzu? Mazda? Toyota? Dodge? What are good years to look for? I want to keep the price low <$5,000 because this will be a second, liability only type of vehicle for me. Thanks in advance!
Within hours of buying new truck. Stuck on the decision between frontier and tacoma. Not looking for loaded vehicle. Any pros or cons re: each truck might help me make my decision. Any help appreciated.
does anyone know how much hp/mpg one can get from installing a Flowmaster muffler on a 4.8 litre extended cab 2wd silverado? also, how can I get around the 95mph governor?
I am trying to get in touch with acarroll about a post that he had about the fuel systems....please contact me if you have any info!! Thanks!! Woody2269@yahoo.com
My new 2000 F-350 crew cab powerstroke 6 speed should arrive tomorrow. This is my first diesel. I've always heard that with new gas engines, you should always vary the speed/rpm, limit long drives and not tax the engine too much, i.e. heavy loads/towing etc. for the first several thousand miles. Does anyone have any different recommendations for breaking in diesel engines? I live outside of Estes Park, Colorado at about 8,000 feet above sea level. Any other web sites/resources for learning more about diesel engine care and maintenance, especially Powerstrokes?
Flowmaster muffler gains depend on which model you install. Make sure they are delta flow. Gains somewhere in the 10-15 hp. The only way to get around the 95 mph speed limiter is to buy a Hypertech III unit. Make sure your tires are rated to perform at whatever speed you program or you will be in for one nasty surprise. The speed limiter is set at 95 mph because of the el cheapo tires GM has put on your truck...
am debating between v10 or diesel by crunching th e numbers it looks like its cheaper to go v10, am concerned about gas mileage on v10 any help appreciated. yhanks
No you wouldn't have to use premium as you can program for regular. And the programmer would not void your warranty unless you did SPURTS up to 120 and your tires did blow out...cause you exceeded the rated speed of the tire...
click on computers in the left column and you can read for yourself on the benefits of the HPIII. There is one thing that you must do when using this programmer. Always return to stock setting when taking truck into dealer for servicing. I had good experiences with the company above. you could also check out truckperformance.com,though I've heard mixed reviews about them. good luck.
Has anyone heard about any problems that anyone has had with these? Looking for a new truck, like 4x4, can't afford full size, don't like Rangers, have a S-10, not a fan of foreign, so here I am with GMC....any other suggestions?!
but I am worried about the price. I love the look of both the Dakota and the sonoma/s-10, but I would want a 4x4, and I know that I am going to have to lease to keep the payments around 230-250. The Dakota (unless I got a stripped down model in puke orange) I think is out of that range. Please correct me if I am wrong!

Can't believe flowmasters add much except noise.
