I heard again yesterday from a GMC salesman that you can start ordering new Sierra short bed crew cab in January...Anyone else hearing this?

By the way sancho1, there is a dealer in Floydada Texas who will order at $50 over invoice. Only thing is, anything ordered now won't be in until at lease April...

there's a HUGE dealership in the little town of Hempstead that always has some silverados. thats about an hour west on 290 out of Houston.
  • jxyoungjxyoung Member Posts: 156
My Uncle stopped by Hempstead last week and was told he could not get a $500 deal on the new 99's right now. I think they offered him an $800 deal.
Just do some shopping know the invoice of the truck you want and be willing to walk if the story changes. I ordered my truck in Morgan City, LA. for $445 over invoice.

    cdean,
I'm talking about a new style Sierra...My brother in-law just bought a 1999 old style 4X4 short bed crew cab. It's pretty nice but I'm interested in the new style... thanks
  • cdeancdean Member Posts: 1,110
    sorry James007

don't think the new style crew cabs will be out for a while yet. not until they redesign the heavy duty line which could be as long as 2 more model years.

    To Sanchol,
I live in Beaumont and went to Morris Moore in Silsbee. Made a deal for 1999 Silverado LS short bed truck reg. cab. The price was $300 over invoice. If you go to Silsbee, talk to a saleman maned Girvus.

    dave40
i don't know what chevy's tire options are, but i do know a P285 won't fit on a 6.5" rim. that size rim can only take about a P245 size tire

I just bought a 1500 LT 4x4 off the lot with locking differential. Any reason for concern since new orders have locking diff. on restriction now? Also, has anyone bought a canopy? Recommendations on manufacturer, etc. Any input would be appreciated.

ANYBODY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SIERRA 2500 with vortec 6000 in it with 410 gears?
  • james007james007 Member Posts: 18
I just ordered my Silverado 2500 yesterday. One question... Does anyone know if fender flairs are standard on the 2500? All the 2500 pictures show to be with them, but my dealer didn't know if they come standard or after market...I'm sure SilveradoMac can answer this one... James007

Vortec guy: you will have at least an extra 10% power in each gear due to the torque multiplication. When you are operating the engine below the HP peak, you will also gain an amount of power due to the steepness of the horsepower curve at that point.
James007: yes flares are standard on 4x4 2500's

Anyone drive the 4.8 L motor with the 5 speed yet?
  • zonk1zonk1 Member Posts: 37
99 Silverado LS 4x4. Ordered Aug 22, preferenced Sept 9, built Nov 6, released to transport company Nov 7. There's been no mention from Chevy or the Dealer of a problem with the locking differential. I'll let ya know when I pick it up.
  • kent123kent123 Member Posts: 61
Ya beat me Zonk. I ordered mid-Sept., preferenced 9/29 and no build date so far on 2WD LT Ext. cab w/ locking diff.

I heard last week that Chevy is building and shipping trucks w/o the G80 option (locking diff.) even if it was special ordered by the customer. They may figure that you'll take the truck anyway since you've waited so long for it and if you decline delivery, the dealer will have no trouble selling it on the lot.

Let me know how yours turns out.

To oo7 fender flares are painted to match your color if you got the slt package extra cab otherwise I think the sl and sle have ugly flat black flares I ordered the 2500 sle reg cab expect it next week . Might take the flares off if the look like [non-permissible content removed] My truck is black so they might not look so bad

  • zonk1zonk1 Member Posts: 37
I hope the rumors about shipping trucks without the locking differental are just rumors. I'll be pretty pissed if it comes without it.
  • dave40dave40 Member Posts: 582

  • james007james007 Member Posts: 18
    dave40,
I ordered the 6.0 with 3.73 gears. I think this will be low enough for the way I pull. If I planed on pulling a lot I might consider the 4.10. My dealer showed me where GM cancelled the locking differential option on some 2500's he has already ordered. These aren't custom orders so I don't know if that makes any difference.
  • dave40dave40 Member Posts: 582
what color did you order ? sl sle or slt ?
are you cosidering new wheels and tires ?those 245s are to smal howbout 285 70s on 16 by 8s yokohoma makes 285 70s AVS wonder if they will fit
  • james007james007 Member Posts: 18
    dave40,
I ordered Lt. Pewter with Charcoal Gray on bottom. Hope the fender flairs are painted charcoal gray...It's extended cab SB 4X4. Not many options except auto trans. case, skid plates, dark glass, and heavy duty trailering package. I ordered the polished aluminum wheels(PY0). I think standard tires will work for me. Let us know when yours comes in...007

dave40 - saw specific seat covers for the 40/20/40 chevy advertized in Cabela's mail order cat. They are the indian blanket type in about 6 different colors....

Have driven two of the new trucks with tow/haul. 4.8l with 3.42 and the 5.3l with 4.11. They will eventually shift into overdrive. Seem downshift happy but reluctant to upshift. Exactly how one would drive a manual when towing. Plus, if you don't like it, turn it off.
Am ordering a 1500 4x4 4.8 manual with 4.11 gears today. All of chevy's new v-8 really want to spin to make horsepower. I would only buy the 3.73's or lower if I rarely towed and drove mostly highway.

How do the front hubs on the new silverado engage when shifting on the fly into 4wd? My sales guy said you can go into 4H at any speed. I am referring to the standard transfer case, not the autotrac.

I'm glad to see some of you ordering the 2500 Silverado. I stopped by a Chevy dealer 2 days ago and was told the 2500 won't be made for up to 2 years. He said I'd have to get the C/K model, which I don't want.
  • hubbap1hubbap1 Member Posts: 19
I sure hope my ordered 2500 has locking dif - G80, on it when it shows up. Hearing about the factory shipping special orders without options (G80) sounds rediculous. I'd better check with my dealer. Don't they believe in customer satisfaction? Does anyone know if you can add locking differential easily after it is built? This issue really has me nervous.
  • dave40dave40 Member Posts: 582
    HUBCAP
I ordered it back in aug 2500 serria with locking diffs 'checked last week and dealer didn't hear anything about it Would be nice but don't really care that much that auto trac 4 wheel drive system should make up for it
PS what did you order ?color sl sle slt engine?

  • kent123kent123 Member Posts: 61
I asked the dealer a couple weeks ago about adding the locking diff. later if my Silverado LT shows up without it. I was told that doing so is not practical since it requires a lot of labor on the rearend.

After being made to wait so long, a special order truck needs to be built to specs unless they notify you in well advance so you can make an informed decision IMHO.

About the California Chevy 'drought': Can't get the trucks quite yet. I hear the Bow-Tie boys are about to invest well over a hundred million advertising in one of their most important distribution markets in the Country...but they can't quite deliver yet. To aggravate the situation the computer order system is being revamped, and any order entries for the past four weeks (perhaps longer) have no meaning...Allocations stand at zero, they are released Tuesday mornings, and until Chevy gives the green light, well, your order and deposit date has little meaning. The ZX3 option being introduced in the Silverado (the ride control option) is the only alternative to the Z85 (firm ride suspension) when ordering the Z82 (Heavy-duty trailering special equipment.) Unfortunately that option will not start up production until January for February deliveries. What this all means is this:
1.- The ordering system is being revamped to do away with the 'preferenced' protocol, but it comes at a time where previously entered orders may have no meaning as they will have to be re-entered when Chevy allocates production numbers to California. I had no luck on November 10th, but the 17th may see some allocations.
2.- If you're ordering a 2WD 1500 with a trailering package the razzle-dazzle ZX3 Ride Control Suspension will delay your delivery, as I'm told, to February.
3.- I'm thinking, 'heck, even if I compromise what I want and settle for the Z85 Firm Ride (required with the tow package) I probably won't see a truck on my driveway until February: May as well order what I want.' Now for a different subject:
How about the difference between a 'Rhino-lining' and a 'Line-X' shoot-in bed. And what kind of hard lid, painted to match woud you buy. Any toughts out there?

uhh.. You guys who think the gmc is better?? Its the same truck... Smokey yunik said it best (If you know who he is)"The chevy engineers design the engines,transmissions,chassis,body-- the gmc engineers design hubcaps and chrome strips..

I mostly just lurk here. Have wanted to get a 99 silverado 3/4 ton 4x4 since April. Want it to tow a 5th whell. Been waiting for my dealer to get one before I order. Keep hearing delivery keeps being pushed back. I have also heard a new bigger gas engine may be available early next year. Trying to find out from the Isuzu/GMC engine team when the diesel will be available. Also the 2000 model may be available early next year. So what's a guy to do? My 97 Chevy is doing the job so I'm in no hurry. Am leaning towards waiting until I hear more about the 2000. I don't expect it to be much different other than drive train. Maybe many of the bottlenecks caused by the strike and the new design will be gone by then. ......... By the way, I always thought the GMC and Chevy were the same except for dress. If you want to spend more for a grill thats a personal thing. But I do understand the 99's have more differences than say my 97. Rich

I've just received my 99 4X4 silverado. It's a great truck, and I only have one complaint so far - the dealer put his sticker in a lousy spot on the tailgate. Does anyone know of a good way to remove the sticker without damaging the paint?
