I am interested in any info on recent purchase experiences in NC, specifically the RTP, NC area (Durham, Raleigh) or the Triad, NC area (Winston Salem, Greensboro, Burlington). "Any purchase tips" are much appreciated!
I am looking for a 2008 EXL FWD or 4WD, no NAV or RES. Best price so far is $28k TTT. Seems like the dealers in this area aren't willing to budge on price....or is this a good deal?
Carsdirect.com told me today quote "Unfortunately, none of my dealers have any 08 Pilot EXL 2wd in stock. Honda stopped production on those vehicles in January so, the inventory has depleted."
Thanks!
Pete Galich or Dave Kelleher (internet sales). They are both great guys! Do your homework, tell them what you are willing to pay and go pick it up. They make it real easy. No dealer add ons etc. They usually beat dealer invoice by $500 as long as the vehicle isn't in strong demand. I have purchased 3 new Hondas from them in the past 4 years. Don't waste your time anywhere else. You will not be disappointed!

They've been great to deal with, and I will be picking it up on Saturday. None of the other dealers in central NY came close to this price.
Avoid Carbone, Fox, and Honda City, terrible to deal with. Had good interactions with Keeler, but they couldn't do quite as good. Rensselaer gets kudos for giving me the best quote on the first request. None of the "what's your best deal so far, I'll beat it by $1" or the back and forth negotiating. It was too easy.
I have been researching on 2008 pilot since april and finally got it from out of state with $5000 off below invoice and $0 processing fee. In triangle area it was $4000 below invoice plus $398 processing fee(rip off).
exl 2wd are not available with most of the dealer but you can get EXL 4WD or SE 2WD/4WD.
I can send you more details about dealership etc. if you are ready to make a 5 hour drive. i finalized my price on internet and phone and there was absolutely no surprise when i went there. i was little doubtful about it since it was so simple and clear but the whole process of smooth and i got the car with temp tag and got it registered in NC with out any problem.
CONGRATS!!! Thats the way it should be. When purchasing over the interent you should have all of the information before you even arrive at the dealership. It make you job and the dealers job so much easier
Thank you for sharing your price and experience.
It was a beautiful car and I am definitely going to get one but not at msrp.

To answer your question, that sounds like a really good deal to my right now (we got about 3800 under MSRP over a month ago)... I'll jump on checking the matching (or better) Commomwealth can give you
One general tip for anyone looking for a specific vehicle, if the dealer's website doesn't give you all of the info that you are looking for, but they do give you the VIN, go to Honda's accessory e-store and enter the VIN. That will give you all of the trim and color details. This saved me some time narrowing down to just the dealers that had what I wanted.
For those in the area here's a brief summary of my impression of some of the local dealers:
Baytown & Lake Jackson - I heard good things about both of these from other posters, but they didn't have the color combination I was looking for (or even very many 09's), so I didn't communicate with them very much.
Clear Lake - The only dealership that I wasn't able to search their inventory online (what's up with that?). Luckily they were also the closest to my house, so going in person wasn't a problem. I found out they didn't have the color combination I was looking for. When I told them that, the salesman said "We won't be getting any more 2009's in until September. No one else will either because the Honda plant is closed for the summer." I'm glad they weren't getting my money after that statement.
David McDavid - Had color combination I wanted, but suddenly stopped communicating with me when I was trying to work out the details on the price. Not sure if they just lost interest or if the salesman quit.
Goodson West - Provided the best initial quote. I was a little suspicious if they'd actually honor it though since they based it off the 2008 MSRP instead of the 2009 MSRP.
Sand Dollar - Spoke and emailed them quite a bit. They provided a good quote (just a couple hundred more than Goodson) on the 2009, but they didn't have it in stock and would have had to trade or order it. I would have gone with them if they had it in stock or if none of the other dealers worked out.
Russell & Smith - Very pleasant, easy experience. Initial quote wasn't great, but when I mentioned the best quote I had received they agreed to beat it. No problems when I went in to get the vehicle. Price didn't change, no dealer installed options had been put on, and no strong sell on accessories or extended warranties. I was out in about 90 minutes with the car.
Sterling McCall & Katy - After getting an initial quote, neither was very responsive to emailed questions.
Hope this info helps someone else. Good luck.
Good luck with that.
6yr/120k HondaCare Warranty, $0 deductible: $1135 (quotes as high as $2200)
All Season Mats: $139
Honda Remote Start: $719 installed (saw it here for $399)
Two dealerships agreed to $38,500 + TTL for this package. Includes all dealer fees. If I back out my add-ons, the selling price is $36,507 or $364 below invoice. But if I'm getting hosed on the Remote Start, I'm right back at invoice. Not sure if this is a great deal or not, since multiple dealers were quick to offer the car at invoice...
The add-ons make it easy for the dealer to slide $ around... any suggestions?
Thanks..
$40665 - $4800 = $35865
With all my research, I feel like this is a good deal ... any thoughts?
Thanks!
Here is a guess scenario:
$26,939 invoice
$600 dest.
$200 title, license
=$27,739
LESS:
$4,000 cash to dealer
$270 (half of hold back, a total guess)
=$23,469
PLUS:
$1,408 tax at 6%
GRAND TOTAL:
$24,877
