Nope, no trade-in. We had a lease prior that was ending this month, so we just wound up returning it a couple of weeks earlier. I didn't notice if they had any 08 models left, but they have a pretty big showroom/lot so they might.

Test drove the Pilot again today. I have a 2004 EXL-RES Pilot and have loved it from the beginning! The 2009 is vastly improved and drives great. Prices from dealers in VA, TN and NC are mostly about $500 over invoice (Invoice is $32,533). The prices are way down from just one month ago. Some dealers are still offering close to MSRP, but most are offering pretty good discounts. It pays to do your homework before going to the dealership. Best of luck!

Very helpful! Would you mind sharing the MSRP?

I am going to purchase an 09 pilot 4wd ex-l with res tomorrow. I emailed several dealers here in town and all were accomodating. I am going to go with Penske Honda (where we bought the wife's odyssey last year) and am expecting to pay about $600 BELOW invoice of $33,309 (edmunds) before taxes and fees. Indy Honda has been pretty aggresive in trying to lure my business, but Penske is closer to my home and I really liked the salesman I used when we bought the Odyssey. At least here in Indy, it seems dealers are eager to move a few off the lots and onto the streets.

I'm looking for advice on how to get "the best price" on a Sterling Grey 2009 AWD Touring Pilot with DVD in the Washington, DC area. I don't need financing. I don't have time pressure--the car we are replacing is doing just fine, we are just interested in buying in the next few months (but could wait even longer if that really would help us get a deal)...Any advice on best dealerships for negotiating, likely best time to buy in the next few months, how to go about figuring out what is "the best deal" when I'm not flexible on the car we will purchase, etc? Thanks in advance for your help!

Timing is on your side. Suggest monitor the Honda Pilot sale figure monthly, if it didn't go up then Honda & delaers will lower their offers, be aggresive in order to move the Pilots.

Is it a good deal if the dealer offer 4800 off MSRP?

    Hello,
I am interested in any info on recent purchase experiences in NC, specifically the RTP, NC area (Durham, Raleigh) or the Triad, NC area (Winston Salem, Greensboro, Burlington). "Any purchase tips" are much appreciated!

I am looking for a 2008 EXL FWD or 4WD, no NAV or RES. Best price so far is $28k TTT. Seems like the dealers in this area aren't willing to budge on price....or is this a good deal?

Carsdirect.com told me today quote "Unfortunately, none of my dealers have any 08 Pilot EXL 2wd in stock. Honda stopped production on those vehicles in January so, the inventory has depleted."

    Thanks!

Sport Honda in Silver Spring is by far the most professional dealership around. See
Pete Galich or Dave Kelleher (internet sales). They are both great guys! Do your homework, tell them what you are willing to pay and go pick it up. They make it real easy. No dealer add ons etc. They usually beat dealer invoice by $500 as long as the vehicle isn't in strong demand. I have purchased 3 new Hondas from them in the past 4 years. Don't waste your time anywhere else. You will not be disappointed!

Does anyone know if Honda sweetened any of the incentives on the remaining 08 Pilots? I've heard that dealer incentive increased and financing rate dropped to 0%.

I live in Boise Idaho and just started looking for a 2009 Pilot EXL. Anyone have any suggestions where I can find the best deal in the Northwest?

Yes, but I think that is a big "if" for an '09 touring.

I have it in writing from Boch in Norwood, MA. but the dealer is kind of sleazy and high pressure.

I wanted to post that I was able to negotiate this car at Rensselaer Honda for $28,381. I also requested they install the remote start accessory, for which they charged $399 (MSRP is $500)

They've been great to deal with, and I will be picking it up on Saturday. None of the other dealers in central NY came close to this price.

Avoid Carbone, Fox, and Honda City, terrible to deal with. Had good interactions with Keeler, but they couldn't do quite as good. Rensselaer gets kudos for giving me the best quote on the first request. None of the "what's your best deal so far, I'll beat it by $1" or the back and forth negotiating. It was too easy.

you are right. its hard to get a good deal in NC raleigh area due to one automotive group (L..) monopoly.

I have been researching on 2008 pilot since april and finally got it from out of state with $5000 off below invoice and $0 processing fee. In triangle area it was $4000 below invoice plus $398 processing fee(rip off).
exl 2wd are not available with most of the dealer but you can get EXL 4WD or SE 2WD/4WD.
I can send you more details about dealership etc. if you are ready to make a 5 hour drive. i finalized my price on internet and phone and there was absolutely no surprise when i went there. i was little doubtful about it since it was so simple and clear but the whole process of smooth and i got the car with temp tag and got it registered in NC with out any problem.

CONGRATS!!! Thats the way it should be. When purchasing over the interent you should have all of the information before you even arrive at the dealership. It make you job and the dealers job so much easier :)

Thank you for sharing your price and experience.

Hi jsmith22...Hope you can help. Can you send me info on your deal and your dealership contacts? I've been searching for a good deal on an 08 4WD (SE/EX/EXL) and the dealers here in the northeast haven't been great with aggressive pricing. I am willing to travel. See my profile for my email address. Thanks!!

What's the best lease for a 3 yr 12k miles/yr 2009 Honda Pilot EX? I'm seeing 430/mn with not much down, and I wanted to know if anyone had seen better.
  • maureenwmaureenw Member Posts: 7
This is exactly what I am looking for. I test drove 09 touring model with RES on Saturday in Sacramento. We offered $35,000 to dealer which was right at his invoice. He would ONLY consider $38,500. The car had been driven by the owner of the lot and already had 800 miles on it as well. We said no thanks. We will wait until the prices drop a bit.
It was a beautiful car and I am definitely going to get one but not at msrp.

If you're in MA, I'll suggest you try Commonwealth Honda. Our salesman was John (really nice guy). They have a matching policy and might be able to give you a better price ;) They are also very respectful of their customers and won't pressure you into buying right then and there (like Boch does). They won't even tell you "this is valid only if you finance with us" (like Boch does). Another thing, are you sure Boch will honor this offer? In our experience their offers are valid until you walk out of the lot, no time to compare, think about it, etc. Commonwealth honored the offer they had given us a week before. We went back to them because, even though Boch matched Commowealth's offer (after not believing anyone was giving that price about 2 wks after the car was out), they really lowballed (is that even a word?) us in our trade in... $800 for a $3500 trade-in valued car (don't even get me started). IT took a while to "find" the person to give us the car keys and my husband license when we wanted to walk out of their "deal"!! When we were finally "allowed" to leave they came back with a $2500 value. We told them to stick it... They called us back within a week offering to negotiate again, it was a real pleasure to tell them that we already had the car :P Commonwealth gave us 3K for our trade, right off the bat..something acceptable to us. And they make us a deal right of the bat too for the Pilot... no one else in MA was even trying at the time! We did financed with them, only because the also dropped half a point on our CU rate ;)

To answer your question, that sounds like a really good deal to my right now (we got about 3800 under MSRP over a month ago)... I'll jump on checking the matching (or better) Commomwealth can give you :D

I am looking for advice on how to get "the best price" on a light color 2008 4WD Pilot Ex-L without NAV and RES in the bay area, CA. I am interested in buying in July or August. Any advice and experience of buying such a vehicle will be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

The best price I found on a 2wd 09 touring with res is $35,686.00, including destination charge, pin stripes, and splashguards. It's listed on ebay, here is the link: Click Here.
  • zorcereszorceres Member Posts: 23
I just assume that the deal was with a 4WD that is a bit more expensive than the 2WD so I think it was good... We didn't look at the 2wd so I can't really say if that is a good price or not but I'm sure the original poster will appreciate the information :)

Anyone had any luck getting good pricing on '09 Pilots in the Denver area lately? If so, let me know which dealers and what kind of deal you got. I'm looking for a Touring or EX_L 4WD. THANKS!!
  • rockettrrockettr Member Posts: 7
Thanks to everyone who posted before. The information was very useful in my search. I just purchased an 09 Pilot EX-L (2wd) in Houston from Russell Smith for $33,500 out the door. That's roughly $175 over invoice before taxes and fees.

One general tip for anyone looking for a specific vehicle, if the dealer's website doesn't give you all of the info that you are looking for, but they do give you the VIN, go to Honda's accessory e-store and enter the VIN. That will give you all of the trim and color details. This saved me some time narrowing down to just the dealers that had what I wanted.

For those in the area here's a brief summary of my impression of some of the local dealers:

Baytown & Lake Jackson - I heard good things about both of these from other posters, but they didn't have the color combination I was looking for (or even very many 09's), so I didn't communicate with them very much.

Clear Lake - The only dealership that I wasn't able to search their inventory online (what's up with that?). Luckily they were also the closest to my house, so going in person wasn't a problem. I found out they didn't have the color combination I was looking for. When I told them that, the salesman said "We won't be getting any more 2009's in until September. No one else will either because the Honda plant is closed for the summer." I'm glad they weren't getting my money after that statement.

David McDavid - Had color combination I wanted, but suddenly stopped communicating with me when I was trying to work out the details on the price. Not sure if they just lost interest or if the salesman quit.

Goodson West - Provided the best initial quote. I was a little suspicious if they'd actually honor it though since they based it off the 2008 MSRP instead of the 2009 MSRP.

Sand Dollar - Spoke and emailed them quite a bit. They provided a good quote (just a couple hundred more than Goodson) on the 2009, but they didn't have it in stock and would have had to trade or order it. I would have gone with them if they had it in stock or if none of the other dealers worked out.

Russell & Smith - Very pleasant, easy experience. Initial quote wasn't great, but when I mentioned the best quote I had received they agreed to beat it. No problems when I went in to get the vehicle. Price didn't change, no dealer installed options had been put on, and no strong sell on accessories or extended warranties. I was out in about 90 minutes with the car.

Sterling McCall & Katy - After getting an initial quote, neither was very responsive to emailed questions.

Hope this info helps someone else. Good luck.

It is for a 4WD Touring with RES. They actually emailed back and offered me a thousand more than they have offered me last week. I contact Costco auto buying and will visit Atamian Honda on Friday, the sales guy said he will match anyone's price that is on writing. I got it in email and hopefully but from him this weekend.

I am going to purchase either an Odyssey or an '08 Pilot in Florida. Does anyone know for sure what the holdback is for either model? Ive herd 2% and 3%. Has anyone had any luck buying at invoice less incentives less all of the holdback?
  • rockettrrockettr Member Posts: 7
Invoice minus incentives minus holdback, so zero profit for the dealer?

    Good luck with that.
  • manypilotsmanypilots Member Posts: 25
on an '08 Pilot EX-L Nav, I got into about 75% of the holdback (that includes the $3,500 cash to dealer) in April. I believe holdback is 2%.
  • zorcereszorceres Member Posts: 23
It does says 2wd in the add... not 4wd. Plus, you mentioned 2wd in your post also. If is really the 4wd, jump at it! :) (too bad we really couldn't find that price when we got ours) That's the best price that I've heard so far. Is that under the invoice, btw ('cuz I think it is!)? Best of luck!
  • jc9394jc9394 Member Posts: 39
Yes, it is below invoice but they still make the profit with the 2-3% hold back. I will pick it up this weekend.
  • shaybahshaybah Member Posts: 4
I've been working on this with a number of dealers in the southern NY area. This is the fully loaded Pilot with an MSRP of $40,665. Invoice is $36,871. (both include Dest. Charge) I also wanted a few add-ons and here are the best prices I received for each while shopping around:

6yr/120k HondaCare Warranty, $0 deductible: $1135 (quotes as high as $2200)
    All Season Mats: $139
Honda Remote Start: $719 installed (saw it here for $399)

Two dealerships agreed to $38,500 + TTL for this package. Includes all dealer fees. If I back out my add-ons, the selling price is $36,507 or $364 below invoice. But if I'm getting hosed on the Remote Start, I'm right back at invoice. Not sure if this is a great deal or not, since multiple dealers were quick to offer the car at invoice...

The add-ons make it easy for the dealer to slide $ around... any suggestions?

    Thanks..
  • jc9394jc9394 Member Posts: 39
The best price I got is 35865 +fees, the add on usually on different department, so there isn't much for the sales folks to move around. I will work on the add on after you and the sales agreed on the price first.
  • shaybahshaybah Member Posts: 4
You were offered $35,865 on this? Could you confirm that we're talking about the same model? ('09 AWD Touring w/ RES/NAV)
  • jc9394jc9394 Member Posts: 39
Yes, I got an offer from Boch in Norwood for 2009 Pilot Touring 4WD with RES (NAV is included with all Touring model) for $4800 off MSRP.

    $40665 - $4800 = $35865
  • jc9394jc9394 Member Posts: 39
I have see both, is the 40630 have a lower delivery charge?
  • rockettrrockettr Member Posts: 7
Looks like the destination fee has gone up by $35 on all trims in the last couple of weeks.
  • hondapilotshophondapilotshop Member Posts: 2
Destination has gone up from $635 to $670 for all recently delivered vehicles. Older vehicles in lot still carry $635 destination. Most websites with MSRP and invoice prices have already adjusted to the $670 destination charge.
  • wanthonda1wanthonda1 Member Posts: 1
We can get this car for $33,800 plus taxes and tag.

With all my research, I feel like this is a good deal ... any thoughts?

    Thanks!
  • j_hoj_ho Member Posts: 4
That seems like a good price for one without the RES. The best price I found on a 09 2wd touring w/RES is $35,686. The RES option adds $1600 to the MSRP, $33,800 + $1,600 = $35,400. That's theoretically $286 cheaper.

hey,i'm looking for a great deal on a 2009 Honda Pilot touring 4x4 with Nav in the Sacramento ca area. Does anyone have any tips on where I can get the best deal?
  • teganflteganfl Member Posts: 1
I been reading this forum obsessively for about a week. I think I have gathered that a 2008 Pilot can be purchased fairly easily for $4000-$5000 below invoice. Am I right on this point? Also, I just don't quite understand the "holdback" or how the $4000 manufacturer to dealer "marketing support" works. Do I take the invoice price, say $26,939 for the EX, then subtract $4000-$5000, then subtract the "marketing support" amount? I'm in Tampa, Fl. if that makes a difference. Thank you all for helping me... I'm not usually this dense :)
  • manypilotsmanypilots Member Posts: 25
"Hold back" on the $26,939 EX is 2%, or $539. I think you should be able to get this vehicle for invoice plus destination plus taxes, title and license, minus $4,000 cash to dealer, and get a good deal of the "hold back" back, as well.
    Here is a guess scenario:
    $26,939 invoice
    $600 dest.
    $200 title, license
    =$27,739
    LESS:
    $4,000 cash to dealer
$270 (half of hold back, a total guess)
    =$23,469
    PLUS:
    $1,408 tax at 6%
    GRAND TOTAL:
    $24,877
