Does anyone have any experience with Rhino Liner bed liners or any other options?
re-sale value on this truck unless the potential
buyer really loves that two-tone color scheme.
For me, I'd rather save the $190.00 extra for
two-tone paint and get upgraded tires, for example. Around Wisconsin, two tone paint might
look a little different, but for re-sale value,
it does not matter. I finally took my 1999
Silverado in for warranty work on my clunking
bucket drivers seat and my center console rattling
and after 3 visits to two different Chevy dealers,
they have fixed both problems. The bucket seat
needed lubrication in the track and seat reclining
latches and a faulty internal component that
rattled in my CD player that comes built into
the center console was causing the excessive
rattling noise. Boy, what a relief! I now have
a solid truck to drive! These two problems I have had in over 3,000 miles of driving which
DID NOT get fixed by an authorized GM non-selling
dealer. THAT DEALERSHIP REFUSED warranty
work since I did not buy it there (more convenient for me) is definitely going to hear
from me again, the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, the
GM Customer Assistance Center, and anyone else
who handles dealership complaints. Enough complaining, time to drive my SOLID truck yet again!
if it is important enough to upgrade tires
either to P265/75R16 or LT265/75R16 tires vs.
the standard p245/75R16 tires. The dealership
I talked to has no clue what brand of tire is
going to come in on these trucks when ordered since they say it can change depending on what stock the plant has in at the time. It seems to
me that the extra $200 or so just to upgrade (not buy outright) tires is ridiculous. Does 'big' tires
really make that much difference to consumers who
buy these trucks? It seems at least in Wisconsin
that everyboy who orders and buys these trucks
wants the 'Big' tires?
My other question involves the upgraded $70.00
option for cast aluminum wheels vs. standard stainless steel mag wheels. I know cast alumninum
wheels will not rust, but to me, the standard stainless steel bright wheels looks sharper (might rust over time though?) and isn't stainless steel
stronger than cast aluminum? Any thoughts on tires
and wheel choices out there? I'm interested in
finding out what others think!
my extended cab LS, 5.3, Z71, 4x4 w/locking differential two weeks ago. The truck has been great except for a few standard options I wish it didn't have. Automatic night lights and locking doors. I know you can temporarily shut the lights off by pushing the parking break with the engine off and then starting it. Has anyone had their dealer say they can disable this and the auto door locks? Chevrolet told me they could change the locks but my dealer says they are having a hard time getting that information from chevrolet on how to do it.
Also, has anyone had the "service engine soon" light come on and stay on yet? Mine did while pulling my snowmobiles this weekend. It goes in friday for service. I do like the fact that it pulled the trailer 75 mph on the freeway with ease. The horses weren't shy drinking though!

The ads use the oak interior with the pewter metallic exterior. I doubt you could go wrong with any of them. My second choice was Sunset Gold and Oak. I might have chosen that if I had had a chance to see it. The end decision was advertising got to me, z71 and all.
I think Pewter hides winter grime best of all.
I couldn't wait until the weekend after picking up the truck because I commute this time of year in the dark to and from. I drove down to Owatonna, MN to Cabela's Saturday. That's sort of a Mecca trip for pickups and SUVs to a 100,000 sf hunting and fishing store filled with over 700 stuffed animals. The parking lot has over 800 stalls and it was filled. You would be hard pressed to find a standard automobile in the lot. All truck owners should go to Cabela's. They have one in Nebraska too.
Well anyway, to end this story, I stopped for coffee at a McDonald's drive up. Drinking coffee on a concrete freeway with control joints and the z71 suspension can be an adventure. :-) I stated before the z71 is not jarring but it is stiffer and you don't really notice it until you have coffee in hand.
The one nagging problem with this otherwise great truck is the tires. Mine came with 255 70 R16's made by General. At first, I noticed a vibration at about 60 mph. The dealer tried re-balance on all 4 tires twice, then said they'd given up and would order me a whole new set. When I called to check a week later to see if they were in, the service mgr. told me to take the truck to a certain independent tire shop to get re-balanced on their supposedly better machine. That shop told me that 3 of my tires were so defective that they could not be balanced. The worst was a whole 9 ounces out of whack!
My next call was to the Chevy service mgr. who told me that they didn't order the tires as his dept. previously promised and that it would now take another week to do so. I ended up having to make a 500 mi. trip yesterday and today with the vibration. I started out loving the truck; I am now very irritated.
Any suggestions? Anyone having any similar problems with new Silverado tires?
they have been a standard feature since 97 or before. The reason that there is a way to shut them off while the engine, is running is that it is illegal to "jacklight" (i.e. spotlight or headlight) deer.
Be kinda sad if you started the engine in the truck to keep warm, and wound up getting it confiscated by the Department of Natural Resources wardens - all because the lights came on automaticly.
Built December 17, Given to transport the following day and still no sign??? Finally they say it left Canada January 11. All I get is it is in transition?????????????????????????

He expects that to occur toward the end of February at which time he will be allowed to place an order. He also said that with the new GM order system that he can tell exactly when the truck will be built when he places the order. He anticipates 6 weeks from order to delivery.
I'm not sure what to believe. I'll just be praying for patience between now and then. I'm starting to worry a bit about being one of the first trucks off the line with this suspension. Does anyone know why this option is on constraint?

16 WOLs. Sounds like they owe you big time, and this is a better tire configuration for your truck. Insist on Firestone or Goodyear. These are good tires and should more than fix your problem. If the dealer says no, remind him thesetires are standardon the new 99 GM trucks and threaten him with bad customer relations and the fact that
you will put the word out if he does not comply. remember, you paid a lot of good money
for this truck and demand satisfaction. You may even insist he order a set of new aluminum
alloy rims (PF9 - stock number)- at no cost !!! to go along with the deal. Get tough and quit wasting
your time with the dealer double talk.

Talked to the dealer today and found out that the new GM rep's for our district will be at the dealership Tuesday! I think I will be there;)

I will be replacing my stock steel rims and tires on my LS Silverado 4x4 with 16 alloy rim and 10.5x31 tire (not certain about the tire size yet?). Is getting the computer updated necessary?
On that other post, how could GM deny any service under warranty since the alloy rims and tires are an option for that model. I could see if you did something to the vehicle out side the options and guidelines of GM.
This isn't a Chevy specific question but this group seems to be well informed and current.
What are people's opinion on getting alloy rims with a clear coat on them. With the clear coat they require little maintenance, basic soap and water. And you have to be careful not to use certain cleaners.
My concern is that the clear coat doesn't last.
With the clear coat the wheel doesn't look as shiny but its a heck of a lot easier to maintain.
Is that 800# system automated or do you have to speak to an actual operator? If I just ordered my vehicle the other day, is there any use to inquiring about it already? I did get a order number and dealer code from my dealer.
Then you will be put on hold for a short time. When the rep. comes on tell they you want to check on an order and give them your order # and dealer code. You will get a preference date etc.
They do have limited info but they will know when
a build date is scheduled and when it is actually built.
If they say something about the computer swap ask them when they expect to be back online??
