I see in chevy's brochure they show a air filtrations filter. Is this a servicable item?
Can they be changed like a furnace filter in your house? Can they be washed? I assume they are not a HEPA filter, am I correct?

I think if you compare the GMC to the Silverado, option for option the GMC is generally 3 to $500 more. Now with the changes in the MSRP it may have changed? But when I ordered the GMC was about $500 more for the comparable truck.

I am convinced that the Chevy/GMC is the best truck out on the market or I would not be waiting for one! Hope it comes in soon!

We need to cut GM some slack in the fact that they had a major strike last year, as well a new model year truck! Add to that Y2K computer changes and you have mass confusion that we are seeing. I am sure this will improve and be a better system in the end when the system is refined!?

On the numerous early posts on possible Canada plant problems! The Canada plant is the original plant that built the Silverado! It was the only plant building the Silverado in the beginning. With this in mind they were the plant with the most experience and obviously the plant that refined the production process on the new truck! I would be very shocked if this plant has the alleged QC problems alleged earlier!

I guess i joined the waiting game ordered a 99 sierra sle w/ locking diff. Geez i hope i don't have to wait 4 months it will kill me. It is the only time in my life i regret living in hawaii , imagine my transport wait. Learned alot from reading responses thank alot everyone

I checked my mpg on my Silverado: 4.8, 3.73, x-cab, 4x4, 600 miles, on a straight highway run and got just over 17 mpg. Is that about what I can expect or will it loosen up more as I put miles on it????

Salesman just called with news that he has a allocation for me. Should receive confirmation shortly and a build date not long after that. He will order today. Its been about 8 days short of two months. This is for a k2500 xcab 4x4 LT. w/ 4.10 limited slip axle, automatic etc. He will call me back when paper work done for me to come in to make my deposite. .... Rich

My Silverado got built this past Saturday (1/30/99) and left the plant Sunday!!! Ordered 11/20, allocated around 12/15, built on schedule during the week of 1/25. Yeah!

Any guesses as to when I will see it in Flagstaff, AZ?

For the guy who towed a trailer after having it only 2 1/2 days... I believe theat there is a "break-in" period for the engine that you are supposed to follow before you tow anything. There may be a new way of thinking now, but I know there use to be one. I would play it safe !

Picked up my truck last Thursday. Very little to complain about! Build quality seems excellent so far. Bug shield that was put on by dealer has a couple of plastic washers that have fallen off - that's what holds the darn thing on. There is a very slight whistle/hum coming from the engine when cruzing at low highway speed (55mph) that can only be heard when the stereo is off and you really listen. I didn't hear it this morning, so I'm hoping it was just a break-in phenomenon.

Everything else seems great!

My owners manual said for the first 500 miles: not to go over 55mph, no towing, limit hard breaking.

First tank of gas I got 13mpg. About 70/30 split with highway/city and about 10% driving in autotrac 4WD, empty. I have an LS, ext. cab, short box, 3.73. I hope the mileage improves a bit, but that doesn't seem too bad for starters.

Talked to my dealer today and checked with the yard. They say it should be at the yard and should be at the dealer this week sometime!

I hope they are right? Ordered Oct. 12, built Dec. 17, fingers crossed on this week! It would be nice to have for Mardi Gras the 16th!

hogpilot: You are right. Books says to put 500 miles before towing. It was a light load, partial throttle for just a few miles to check out wiring, hitch etc. I probably should have waited though.

I am glad you finally got your 600 Vortec. MY build date is 8th of Feb so mine will be here soon. I am so curious as to the gas milage. Also if the dual battery set up has a switch to isolate one from the other in order to use it in the camper or whatever. Was yours 4WD ? N.E. way I will be expecting a full report just as soon as you get them tires on and do some break in cruising.

This thing is unreal, glad I waited for the 2500. power to spare handles great real fun to drive , no comparison to the old C/Ks I had to order new lug nuts for my new wheels should be in wend. looks like their going to fit. Power seats are great feature real cool I like the tinted sliding rear window Didn't try the Autotrack or 4 wheel drive yet , tow haul mode is killer 300hp you bet you can feel it
got 25 miles on it and going out to pick up some Chicks right now Full report coming soon got to go you know what I mean

My Silverado developed a cab squeak in the vicinity of the passenger side. At first, I thought it must be the plastic, so I used a stick to push on the plastic while I drove over some speed bumps (slowly) to try and isolate, but never could. Finally, I got under the truck, and took an 18mm socket to the bolts that hold the cab down on the frame rails through a rubber bushing. As soon as I torqued on it, I got the same squeak I heard inside. I loosened it, put some WD40 on it, tightened it back. It was better, but it still squeaked when I wrenched on it or drove it. I took it in and showed what I found to the dealer. He had the mechanic replace the bushing and the bolt while I waited, and now the squeak is gone. While there, I checked out the new car lot. There are more 2500's all the time now. The curious thing is, some have the black plastic fender flares, some are painted the body color. Both look good, but I like the painted. One was a two tone. It was not only painted, but was painted the lower body color for contrast. My LS 1500 4x4 reg cab longbed 5.3L 4.10 locking axle P265 tires now has 482 miles on it, all city with lots of idling and slow-go, and yet I still have not added fuel since I bought it. The gauge is down to 1/8. When I fill up, I will calculate the fuel consumption and report here, since inquiring minds want to know.

Yesterday morning he was to place the order and then when he got conformation he was to contact me about getting to gether to sign some papers. I think Tuesdays are his day off. ..... The transmission temp gauge is to come with the 6.0 and heavy duty trailering option which I ordered. If your not pullin a big trailer no big deal like you say. .... Rich

Looks like its what options you order is how you are allocated. It comes down to even cloth seats or power seats whether your order is picked. My 2500 was ordered Jan. 18th. GM took the order Feb. 2nd, and my build date is Mar. 15th. With a late March, Early April delivery date. He said anybody with an extended cab long box usually has to wait a lot longer. Does anybody know if the fender flares come off easy to paint? Or is it just better to leave them on and live with the looks.

I purchased the molded splash guards from GM for my silverado. You need to take out the torx bolt that holds the brace from the frame to the fender right behind the rear wheels. These bolts have washers and they were put on before the truck was painted. When I took the bolts out it exposed unpainted sheetmetal about the size of a quarter. What is the best way to treat this so it doesn't rust? Paint the spot, use some silicone around the washer after it is installed, both? I appreciate comments.

I finally had to put fuel in my LS 1500 long-bed 5.3L 4.10 axle P265 tires. The driver message center display read "Low Fuel." I drove 18 more miles before pulling next to the pump after exactly 450 miles. It took 31.0 gallons, working out to 14.5 mpg for the first tankful. It was all in town, conservative driving, lots of slow-go, and occasionally hitting highway speeds, carrying a 200 pound toolbox. I'll pass Dave40 at the pump and leave the green stamps for him!

I just got an "all-new" Sierra 2500 6l 2WD. The Owner's Manual says not to tow a trailer during the first 500 miles. That seems awfully low to me. How many miles would you all recommend before I tow BoatZilla (8500 lbs of 26 foot catamaran)?

I ordered my Silverado 12/30/98, was told that the build date will be 3/1. But wasn't given a build number. Should I press the salesman for that? (He didn't even know what the dealer number was, so there is no way for me to call whatever the 800 number is to find out about it)

bobfox...I was given a build date of 1/11 and that didn't make any diff. It is all up to what you ordered,(LT,2500,shortbed,ect.)I found out they could tell you any date and still keep you hanging! Even GM can't tell you,800 number's seem useless. It comes down to... do you really want to wait and get just what you want,or find it on a lot somewere. I'm still waiting...I've gotten #'s and called and complained and still am told, "sorry, can't seem to find out anything." If you look back in this subject you will see how long some are waiting. It is good to see some are getting their trucks.dave40 seems to be having a good time with his.Hope mine comes with chick's like his to make up for the wait! Good luck!

Well just a week short of 4 months, my 1500 LS,extended cab, 5.3, 3.73, Z71, Black Sportside showed up at the dealer today! It looked like it had been through hell! Full of rail dust, plastic on the rear bumper torn up and a few scratches on the right rear fender! I happened in right after it arrived at the dealer and they didn't have time to clean it up. They said they had already ordered the plastic part for the bumper! Most of the scratches were very light but 1 is kind of deep and probably will not come out! I figured it would have something wrong, missing in action as long as it was? It still looks good though. Pick it up tomorrow:)

Mysteriously appeared: February 4

Yes. Get the order number. If they can't give you one, they don't have an allocation, and your order has not even been accepted by G.M.. Keep scouting all the lots. If you find something before you get an order number, you should still be able to get your deposit back. Take your buyer worksheet to the dealer that has the truck you found, and get him to take the same deal, and win you over as a customer. You'll get the special-order price, and the truck you want without waiting with a little luck. Something else you could try if you wanted to stay tied to the dealer you first ordered from is ask him to get that truck off the other dealers lot and sell it to you. Sometimes dealers will trade amongst themselves.

Congratulations on getting that sportside finally. What a shame about the damage! Of course you don't have to accept the truck now, but since I don't blame you for accepting it anyway, you make damn sure they fix that damage properly, and to your satisfaction. Did the scratches dent the metal, or just mar the paint surface? And what a shame that there is no accountability to you from the idiot(s) responsible for doing it, and then sweeping it under the rug almost literally.

If the tires are an inch taller the speedo will be off. I saw a programer in the Performance Catalog for dirrerent tire sizes. Do not know if it works. A shop/dealer can program for a fee of course.

What a wonderful BB. I have eye dropped on here for about a month. I ordered a 2500 LT the first week of Dec. and have not heard a thing yet. In addition, my grandfather in law ordered a 1500 from the same dealer in October and he has not heard from that truck. I am beginning to wonder if the dealer is ever going to get either of the trucks. Any comments or advice?

Like the post says above if your dealer can't give you an order # they probably do not have an allocation and really have not ordered your vehicle! They should have an order # very quickly
after placing an order with the factory.

I am located in central Indiana. I too have seen a lot of 1500's on lots. That is what makes no sense that my grandfather in laws has not been delivered or at least received a build date yet. I should have mentioned that I ordered an extended cab with a short bed. I agree about the only extended cab long bed that has been seen is in the brochure.

Technical Service Bulletin release:
For over one month now on my new 1999 Silverado
LS Ext Cab with Power bucket seats, there seems
to be a clunking/popping noise coming from either
the back or bottom part of only the driver's
power bucket seat. My dealership, after two
attempts at fixing the problem, just told me
2-4-99 that Chevrolet has given to dealerships
a service bulletin about this problem on some, not
all, power bucket drivers seats. The problem
might be with the springs underneath the seat. A solution to this defect in the power bucket
drivers seat is soon to appear from Chevrolet. I'm glad to share this defect with anyone out there
who may, or may have in the future, problems with
the drivers power bucket seat making that noise to the extent you can feel and hear the noise in the seat. It's too bad it takes over 1 month and several trips to the dealership for Chevrolet finally to stand up and take notice this is a problem. Not good news for this so-called 1999 Motor Trend Truck of the Year.

No excuses. When a consumer is spending over $25,000 on a new vehicle, they all should be
thoroughly tested. Apparently, the power bucket seats were not developed properly. Have to wait and see what the solution is to this problem.

Is that what all of you others got for an order number? (Realizing that the 800 number basically is worthless right now, I didn't call.)
