I'm looking to replace my steel stock 6 lug rims on my 99 Silverado 4x4. I have spoken with a couple of different places and one stated that I needed to buy a rim that is hub-centric ( I think this is correct?) while another stated it was not necessary. Anyone have experience with this area?

Yes,I found the box on the left under the dash on the drivers side. It has a cover on it with a plastic nut you have to unscrew.Inside are plug-ins that are marked for trailer wiring. It is pretty easy once you open it. It also has the jack for cell phone and other accessories.The wires on the plug are marked to match the trailer brake control.
I know the owner of a dealership here in WA and can get one factory ordered for $200 over invoice. My color interests are:
1. White with lower indigo blue and blue cloth interior.
2. Indigo blue with pewter lower and charcoal int
(I have seen a new x cab like this and it looks great)
3. Bright Red with charcoal interior. (My car is red though)
4. Indigo Blue with charcoal int.
Any thoughts on the colors? I would be getting a loaded LS. Again, sorry to be long winded but I hope to get some input. I have NOT driven one yet because if I do...I know I will order one. Oh ya, does anybody know how they determine which model is built where? I looked on the dealer lot and it looked like the single cabs were built in MI and the others in Canada and Ind.

Congratulations on getting your truck so quickly! Did you get the 5.3 L engine with your truck? When your order was preferenced back in February did you get a build date? I'm just trying to figure out where along the lines I am to getting mine. I order mine a little over week after you did. I did get an order number, but when I talked to the dealer two weeks ago there wasn't a build date yet. I had heard the 5.3 engines were in short supply.

Yes I did get the 5.3 L engine. And no I never
got a build date, just a ship date from my dealer.
Did your order get "preferenced"? I too was
concerned about the shortage of the 5.3L engine but my dealer said once your order has been pre-
ferenced that meant they have all the parts to build your truck as ordered.

Thanks for the information. With the speed that you got your truck it sounds like there might not be too much of a shortage on the 5.3 L engine. I don't know if my order is preferenced or not; all I received from the dealer was an order number when the placed the order with GM. I'll have to give them a call. Have fun with your new truck.

Anyone with non-power bucket seats have any complaints about the quality of the seat. The ones in which I've sat sure are comfortable.
Just curious, how is it you know that Chevy has, as you say, fewer recalls than Dodge or Ford?
The back seat is vinyl not leather! Your dog should be OK with the vinyl back seat! He would do alot of damage to a leather seat!
Sounded like a bad tire or unbalanced tire?
It seems like we have seen more complaints about bad tires than seat problems! Just an observation Cookie! Maybe your problem is strictly the seat?
JXYOUNG thanks for the input. I remember now hearing that the back seat was not real leather but I also heard it was the trim was not real leather. In anycase you feel a dogs nails could scratch up real leather. So we'd need to make extra sure she stays in the back. We have a harness for her that attaches to the rear center seat belt that keeps her where she should be. But I have been letting her hop in the drivers door and then to the back seat. Without a forth door I'll have to do something different. ....... Rich
They really love the space back there. I don't use a harness, because on long trips they can jump down to lie in the floorboards, then up to be on the seat (over and over and over...). It keeps 'em happy.
No problems with the power 40/20/40 seats yet!
Trying to avoid the Z85 suspension, yet still wanting the towing package and the larger tires is proving to be difficult.
Checked the site I mentioned a while ago and the counts have went up.

beings the Chevy is the newest body style I would expect them to have the most, And Dodge being the oldest would have the fewest, but thats not the case. So like I said it could be worse. But this does not take into account the seriousness of the problems. ..... Rich
They're quoting $695 for the GM alarm. I don't think that is factory price but retail. Anyone know what factory invoice prices are for GM alarms?
I have 2 ~40 lb dogs and have had leather seats in my RX-7, Expedition, and my BMW and have never had a problem with them hurting the leather seats in any way. The only problem with dogs on leather seats is that there's very little friction and when I have to make a QUICK stop, the dogs tend to become projectiles moving forward at high speed. That's why I got cloth seats in my '99 GMC 2500. Cloth seats provide much better holding power.

I have towed my boat (~9000 lbs) several times with my new truck (6L, 2WD, 3.73 rear, extended cab), the ambient temperature has been between 60-82. While cruising down the interstate, the transmission temperature gauge levels off around 165. While in heavy stop and go traffic in town, the tranny gauge indicates about 180-185. I live in _very_ flat Central Florida.

I think you'r right, you have to get the Z85 with the tow package near as I can tell. From what I could get out of my dealer (not a lot) it looks like the springs are the same, shocks are different. One way to overcome this would be something like aftermarket air shocks where you can adjust for loaded/unloaded conditions (kind of like the ZX3 option we can't have either). My reasearch says I can get some adjustable air shocks or something like that for less than $400. The only way you can get the tow package is with the Z85, not an option.

Why don't you get the Z85 suspension so you can have the tow package, and then just change the shocks?
I don't recommend air-shocks because the truck shock mount is not designed to support carrying a load. Better to use Air Lift (tm) air-adjustable pneumatic helper springs to level it out, but still maintain a plush ride. I paid around $180/pair at Camping World. I wrote about them under topic #588,

The springs set the ride height from the axle to the frame (not the ground). Since the normal unladen ride height is about the same for the 1500 and the 2500 since they both have to ride in the middle of the shock stroke, and since both have the same travel, the springs on the 2500 are stiffer, with a correspondingly stiffer ride quality. The 1500 ZX3, Z83, Z85 and Z71 should all have the same springs because they have the same payload and GVWR. So the difference in ride quality among them is from the shocks alone, which can be easily changed. That the Z71 seems so much stiffer off-road also has to do with its stabilizer bar (anti-sway) which transfers weight from opposite corners to achieve flat cornering, but stiffens axle articulation.
Leather is only used on the seating surfaces, not the sides, back, or rumble seat.
If I had them, I would not want my 45 lb dog to scratch them with the nails of his paws. Since I have a regular cab, he has to ride shotgun. With cloth seats, a dog could stink 'em up over time. My solution so far has been to throw a queen size fitted linen sheet over the whole front seat (driver, passenger and console). You can find a pattern that matches your truck interior. The fitted corners keep it from slipping down when he squirms around. It absorbs skin and body oils instead of the seat, and gets machine washed. Washable slip covers, when they become available are what I might settle on.
A shop-vac works well for the hair. Although my hound is a weimareiner with short hair, he still sheds it just like long-hairs do.
