    Harrisonburg VA @ $1.79

    Harrisonburg is just over the Blue Ridge Mountains from me, yet our lowest price is still $2.15 (at least on the routes I travel).

    and California gas is higher than a lot of places. But $2.74 is still close to a buck less than I paid early August.

    Citgo is owned by the Venezuelans. I heard of some people proposing a boycott of Citgo due to Hugo Chavez' badmouthing of "W." Experts said that such a boycott won't work because Americans buy fuel based on price rather than on principles.

    Did anybody hear of a company called Valero? Is this also a Venezuelan company? One replaced the Mobil that used to be on the corner of Roosevelt Blvd. and Cottman Ave. in NE Philly.

    No, Valero's a Texas company with all kinds of ties to the Bush/Cheney regime.

    They've been making a significant push to open stores in the NE (quite a few of them in Bergen and Westchester counties up here), and since prime new gas station real estate is both expensive and hard-to-find, they have bought a lot of the Mobils that've been shut down. At least the ones that Lukoil didn't buy first.

    Yeah, and Valero is spreading down the east coast to my neck of the woods in central VA. In fact, the new Valero nearest me replaced a Citgo, just in the nick of time (before Chavez' recent "speech").

    Funny that they're charging one cent less for 87 than the Shell and Exxon a little ways up and down the road on either side -- $2.14.

    One more thing -- there was a snippet yesterday that 7-Eleven is dropping Citgo from their in-house gas stations because of you-know-who.

    We have Valero stations in San Diego. The one near me is always 10 cents higher than the ARCO across the street. Our gas has a low of $2.39 at one ARCO station to $3.15 at a Mobil. Usually Mobil or Shell are the highest priced. Spirit is a newcomer that is expensive. One close to me took over the Chevron station. Valero took the Texaco. Shell dug up their tanks and has the property for sale. Been vacant for over a year now.

    Reason for me to buy Venezuelan oil. Phillips uses Venezuelan oil, and I will try buy more from them in the future. ;)

    P.S. Paid $2.29 at the Shell Station in Amarillo, on my way home. I get back to Dumas and see a $2.19 at Walley world. Oh Well, I got ripped off a dime. :(

    Have the declining prices affected how much you drive at all?

    Things in our household have worked out that we'll be puttingon a lot fewer miles until March, so we'll be "kicking them while they're down" so to speak :P

    Interesting how WA was just below the national average a year ago...now it is significantly above. Wacky supply and demand in action, I am sure. Nothing that isn't on the up and up.

    Prices are sharply lower than a year ago at this time...November has nothing to do with it I am certain.

    I'm not driving any more or less than before.

    SE Arizona, Willcox to be exact, the local Mustang gas station is selling 87 no-lead for only $2.29. Whoa...almost makes me want to get that SX4 and go take a 2-day trip over to Roswell, NM, or sunny San Diego, CA, or something.

    Over in the big city, Tucson, ghastly is ranging from about $2.22 to $2.29 for 87 no-lead.

    Still, not to get too excited, remember that the overall US average should not really go much below $2.00/gal for 87 no-lead.

    to have bottomed out here for the time being. Some stations are holding steady at $2.39 and some are holding steady at $2.35.

    Prices have leveled off IMHO for a few weeks. Why is the media saying that prices were going to keep falling ? I guess they will drop alot, a few weeks before the election IMHO.

    The prices here are in the $2.10 area with large numbers of stations of $2.03 and below.

    Last week the powers that be raised the price at a large number of stations to $2.19 that held at most for 48 hours and then raised to $2.25 when the media played along with the "price of oil has gone up" faxes.

    Now I heard the media saying "There's going to be a cold winter and heating oil is going to run the price of gas up because of needing to produce more heating oil."

    If anyone watched the Ohio Senate seat candidates DeWine vs Brown debate on Meet the Press, they'll understand that DeWine is friendly to oil companies and Brown seems a loose canon; that should explain why keeping gas prices low until the election will benefit oil.

    I would not discount the election factor in the price of gas. It is also possible that it is a normal cyclic thing. We are also getting 3 times more oil from Iraq than we were a year ago. It is feasible that within a year Iraq production could move them into the top 5 US oil importers. In spite of media trying to stir up bad news that would impact oil, it has not had any affect. We are getting jaded. It takes a Katrina to get our attention. That is not going to happen for a while. There was only one New Orleans to destroy. It may take some traders a bit longer to realize their oil bubble has burst.

    $1.89 in Jackson MO is the lowest

    $2.29 is the USA Average.

    Rocky, they did not stop coming down a few weeks ago.

    USA Average on Sept 2: $2.73
    USA Average on Sept 25: $2.37
    USA AVerage on Oct 2: $2.29

    Still coming down slowly. USA Average will not go below $2.25 if oil stays above $60 a barrel, so it's near the bottom now for sure.

    I drive about the same or possibly less than when the prices were higher. However, I'm much more willing to do those oh-so-forbidden jack rabbit starts now. :D

    Two-cent drop in Philly. Sunoco Regular is $2.25 and "ultra?"93 is $2.55. I see they still have Real Ultra 94 out by Harrisburg.

    Today,I fueled up my Jetta with 93 at $2.49 at Newark. 87 here will be 2.19. At shell here the 87 and 93 differs by $0.40. Lemko. you don't need to drive that far to Harrisburg to get your favorite ULtra 94, they have it at Pennsylvania turnpike after one exit from Downingtown.

    Not really. With the exception of going to Indianapolis this weekend, I keep driving to a minimum. I have noticed the first couple of weeks of decline I was somewhat prone to leave a traffic light a little heavier of foot. But I stopped that "madness" and am now back to snail mode.

    Saw fuel prices in Indy running about $2.15 average, but found some places @ $1.92 (Speedway) & $1.94 (no-name stations). I fueled up @ $2.07 near Lafayette.

    Back home here we're running about $2.38 by me, $2.45 average. All prices for 87-octane petrol.

    The prices of diesel fuel here in Central Florida are still around $2.70/gallon. Regular gas is as low as $ 2.20. Could somebody explain why is diesel so expensive? It costs less to make than regular gas. This whole thing smacks of price manipulation all the way. Because diesel fuel is so high and virtually all commercial delivery vehicles run on diesel, we are not going to see a favorable impact on retail prices of goods any time soon. Even utility companies have slapped high gas prices surcharges on their customer bills, and those are not likely to go away either.

    Yeah, and it's not even "real" Ultra! If it isn't bad enough that it's $0.30 more, they watered it down!

    Anyway, slight drop today. Sunoco Regular is now at $2.23 and "ultra?"93 is $2.53.

    One of those stations that had been holding steady at 2.35 finally dropped down to 2.34 today.

    Most of the stations that had held steady at 2.39 for several days now dropped to 2.35.

    I think without some type of realy good news or a big drop in crude oil prices that gas prices have about hit bottom here.

    I went to Baltimore, and coming back filled up with 89 octane in a bad neighborhood for $2.199 per gallon. 87 was $2.099 and hi-test was $2.299. The truck only took about 12.5 gallons, but the gas gauge needle was acting weird, actually dropping below the lowest line on occasion, so I figure I'd better not risk it. Plus, I had to go through one of the Baltimore Harbor tunnels and had this image of running out of gas in it! That would've been fun! :blush:

    I was just thumbing through the back of my '98 Nissan Frontier owner's manual the other day. It said in "high altitude" areas over 4000 feet, including Colorado, western Nebraska, northeastern Nevada, and other places plus "the part of Texas just below Oklahoma," that it was okay to use 85 octane instead of 87.

    First time I remember seeing that. Interesting that my Camrys' manuals are mum on that issue, and 2006-07 Ford manuals say NOT to go below 87, even in high-altitude areas.

    Every time oil goes down a buck my 401K goes up. A win win situation for the whole economy. The only diehards that like high gas prices are the people that got sucked into buying a smaller car than they really wanted.

    There seem to be several Speedways at $2.19 along with Krogers who may be supplied by Speedway (probably with less alcohol in it).

    I'm expecting another "restoration" this week. Probably Thursday morning like the old pattern did it.

    The $1.91 is around the area where Speedway (Marathon subsidiary) has it's offices near Springfield.

    Only 4 weeks until elections are over. DeWine, a supporter of big oil and vice versa, has a nasty fight on his hands to retain senate seat in Ohio. Had debate on Meet the Depressed last Sunday with challenger.

    Just give me your coordinates. Do you have a large pond they could fill up as they fly over and drop their load? Ya'll rich Texans probably have a couple of olympic-sized pools, one for mom and dad, one for the kids, that they can fill--I should have known. I hope you're not a smoker. ;)

    I watch the MD10 tankers (or whatever name the AF gives them) and other tankers fly in and out here. I wonder how long I could run my car on their contents and I wonder how fast the planes they fill up use that fuel.

    I don't see it happening. Venezuala and Nigeria have already announced a production cut. Iran has stated that oil needs to get back to a "reasonable and logical" level. While no target price was stated apparently anything under $60 is not considered reasonable or logical. Interestingly enough it was only a few years ago that $35/barrel oil was considered a reasonable target. I guess it doesn't take long to get used to all that extra money flowing in. Just the announcement of an emergency OPEC meeting would probably send the price of oil back over $60/barrel. Even if that doesn't happen refineries will start to cut back now that the hurricane season is nearing an end. This glut of unleaded gas will eventually go down and prices will creep up. In the meantime lower fuel costs have led to a recent increase in truck and SUV sales for all the automakers. That's fairly predictable. My personal opinion is that the price of gas is within 10 cents of bottoming out.
