Dave-How are the fog light housings holding up to the 50 watt bulbs?
Is this normal? I assume it is the tires scrubbing the ground that causes it but maybe it is something else?
You can lighten your wallet if it makes you feel better now, but you'll be wiping away the tears later (like Dave40) when you accept reality. The portly 3/4 ton iron head pushrod motor was designed to travel in the right-hand lane, with a yard of top soil in the bed. $10,000 in mods won't make it as fast as the supercharged 32 valve Ford SVO Lightning, so what do you hope to get for $300?
I once had a car with a vibration problem I thought was the tires. The vibration happened at a little higher speed, about 75. But when you hit that speed, it shook so bad I thought something might break. Turns out it was the driveshaft out of balance. One way they test for this is to put all four ends up on jack stands, put it in gear, and "drive" it up to speed. It's quite a bit easier to identify what's going on that way. I wonder if this could be your problem. There are chassis shops that specialize in driveshaft balance. My dealer sent the car out to one to have this done. It did solve the problem. It might be worth a try. What you describe is terrible. Good luck.
Forgive the poor choice of wording. I meant to say, to stiff of a spring rate instead of hard and tight. I hope you understood what I was trying to say. Anyway, I have the Z85 trailering package and Z82 suspension and I was wondering if this may have something to do with shimmy? Two other guy's I work with have 99 Silverados set up the same as mine and they say that they also have the same problem. Anothers Silverado doesn't have the Z82 and Z85 and he says that his truck drives fine. I wonder if there is a connection here and something to think about? Later.
At least my 1/2 ton will hold it's value come 2001.
I have never bought a vehicle in its first year of production so I guess I'm a little edgy. Thanks again Dave40. Maybe I can return the favor someday.
And this Dave guy is a complete joke. If you are going to fix your truck up so much when it was already a "factory muscle truck" (hahah) then when not just buy a friggin Z28 or mustang? I bet he never tows anything and likes driving his pickup for the macho muscular look. Obviously trying to compensate for something right?
Just my opinion and alot of others around here aswell!
thanks
Scotty
have you put her on a dyno yet to see if it really is 465 HP?

I have a '97 S-10 SS that has been "modified" and now runs about 235hp @5100 rpm (according to my little G-force meter). Stock otherwise except for reprogramming, air filter, and cat-back exhaust. I can easily blow the doors off of one of those mustang 4.6 things- with my 4.3 I might add. Truck has been nothing but excellent after chevy fixed minor problems like my trans. pan falling off on I-75 and causing well... kaboom.
I can't complain though; it is my daily driver and gets about 19.5 mpg on average. Have never taken it to a drag strip to see "what it can do", I don't feel like spending $900 on tires every month. Just thought I'd share that info with you guys, let me know of anything interesting for my baby truck- I know all you guys like to talk about is expensive stuff like new Silverados- can't afford one now; I'm an engineering student with not much money.

Thanks for posting my pictures. I am looking forward to seeing more trucks from others.May the Truck Force Be with you.

county dump and they weighed my truck ('98
GMC Sierra, ext-cab, three-door, K1500, Z71, short-fleetside bed with 5.7L engine and auto trans.) with empty bed and the total was 5620 lbs with a full tank of gas (25 gal tank = ~175 lbs gas), my wife (150 lbs) and myself (270 lbs, and it's all muscle!...yeah, right!). I also added a hard tonneau cover that weighs about 30 lbs. That means my truck's weight is real close to 5000 lbs even. I'm just curious how that compares to the other trucks particularly the new
body style GM's. They probably list curb weights somewhere, but I'm not sure if that includes things like trailer hitch, big tires (265-75R16), tow hooks, Z71 suspension (all present on my truck). I'd appreciate any input. Thanks.

P.S. I'm going to post this message on other boards as well so sorry if you're reading this many times.

Im am ordering a 2000 chevy Silverado sportside soon and also was thinking about purchasing a soft tonneau cover for the bed... I noticed on the sportside that the bedrails are not indented like the fleetside chevys... The covers i have been looking at are self-clamping bars that go from one side of the bed to the other... but i cant imagine that working for the sportside. How do they install the soft tonneau covers on the sportside bed?...
Thought id ask you since you seem to know alot about the trucks!
Thanks
I know the 99's get an extra leaf and another brake psison in the back.. but what about the 98's??
Thanks,

The redesigned sportsides dont have a ridge for the support beams to clamp on to.. and i dont think there is any drilling or hardware to be installed with this... but either way Itll work out..
Thanks again
