Sticker on my lightning $30205,Sticker on my F250 XLT 5.4 4X4 4 door supercab $30375. Which truck is better if you like to drive around with 2 people and race everyone the lightning, If you want to drive up to 6 people and go through the mountains and snow the F250. They are both great trucks and they both serve their purpose well.
You must only drive 10k or less per year if you think you will get 3 years out of those tires. Did you notice you don't get much of a millage guarantee with performance tires? I almost wish I still had my SVT. I just got blown away by a Toyota Tundre truck!! What the heck is in those things? Sounded nice.
ps were not cheap, just practicle. It cost a lot of money to live in the Silicon Valley. My home payment is over 2K(35 year old 1400sq ft)
I don't think so I traded in a 96 Corvette for the 99.5 Red Lighting. I had 46,000 miles on the Vette with the orginal tires and plenty of good rubber left on them. If you have the proper knowledge and have a little respect for your Hi-performance vehicles the tires will last as long if not longer than any ordinary set of tires. My brother had a Jeep Cherokee in went through 2 sets of tires in the time frame I owned my vette.
Also by the way you may want to get superchipped or a different ride if those Thundra's are blowing you away. I had a brand new Thundra (still had the sticker) pulled beside me with that I want race look, I blew his doors off then I slowed down to let him get a running start and blew his door off again. Everytime he tried to pass I would slam the pedal and leave him behind again. He wouldn't give up so I finally hit WOT in said see ya wouldn't want to be ya. I don't do this very often only when a crap foreign or Chevy truck pullup in can't wait to race me. I can't refuse the invitation if they are that stupid to race a Lighting. 99.5 Red Lighting, Superchipped, all factory options,Linexed. SVTMAN
I purchased a 99.5 Black Lightning. I have also recently had some fun against the local Yuppy BMW's, Mercedes, Porches, etc. It is great to see a guy drive by in his 60,000 car and watch his head turn to look at this Truck.I know you know what I am talking about. I recently also went to a Corvette show. So I drove the Lightning to it. I think I got more attention than any of the Vettes!!!Enjoy
The Tundras have a 4.7L DOHC V8 in them. According to the latest Truck Trend, it beat all the other trucks when empty (F150 with 5.4L, Silverado with 5.3L, and Ram with 5.9L). When loaded with 1,000 pounds, the F-150 beat everyone and the Tundra came in a close second. I don't have any particular brand loyalties, but I wouldn't feel right buying a Toyota. I'm glad there are people that don't mind though, because they've set a new standard of power and speed and I think the big-3 will now have to stop playing around. -powerisfun
I just got my lightning when i was up there i am waiting for it here in the philippines and man i cant wait i got it for 29,000 new color red and with the soft cover for the bed now i am looking for a chip exhaust and airfilter can any one give me the name of a place and the number and if you have the prices for this i will appreciate it
If I'm not mistaken the tundra is not as big as the big 3 and is more in the line of a dakota size,That is why it beat the big 3 with no weight its lighter.I couldn't and wouldn't buy a toyota for many reasons, #1 the grandfather of one of the top executives of toyota was a general in the war and marched 100's of american soldiers to their death off a cliff during the war.
To tell you the truth that is all I know,I work for local 103 electricians union Boston and working for a union everybodys all american, although some guys drive foriegn vehicles Toyota is a big no no especially because of that, I could find out more if you really want to know.
Just purchased Tundra 2000, how can someone relate Toyota of INDIANA, to someone in WWII, come on. This is one of the finest trucks made, and is rumored to be supercharged like the Lightning, (which I checked out before purchase of Thundra)next year. Count me in. Then let's have a go. Enjoy all your trucks
It means nothing other than I would only consider american, even though the tundra is made in America the profits all go to corporate Japan, and if Japan would consider importing more american products it might make a differance in my mind.
Also the tundra is more in the line of a dodge dakota check out web site www.trucktrend.com ,they compare it to the dakota and not as a full size truck so you are paying a lot of money for a midsize pickup.
I have a dilemma. I'm trying to decide between a '99 white Cobra or a '99.5 white Lightning. I know one's a 5-sp, and the other's AT. Any suggestions? I'm primarily interested in low-end "punch".
I'm planning on test driving a '99 Cobra this week and maybe test driving the Lightning next week, if it's still at the lot. I'm not really a truck person, but I KNOW the Lightning is the kinda truck I'd like.
As a '97 Cobra owner I was very excited at the prospect of the new '99 Cobra being able to regain the muscle car crown from the G.M. F-bodies. The '99 has been a big disappointment as far as performance goes with many reports of the stock Mustang GT (99 model) being quicker. Ford is looking into a fix reportedly concerning the exhaust and the ECM. In the mean time go with the Lightning for low end punch and I hope better traction off the line. A stock Cobra is nearly impossible to launch hard.
I did read an article on the lost hp in the cobra something to do with the manifold and exhaust, they are fixing it.In the same magazine I read that article they have a roush stage III F150, it has a 360 supercharged 5.4, it is an extend a cab 4 door,it is also a 4x4,it has the Roush sport suspension, Bilstein shocks, ground effects, fog lights,Roush badging,Roush exhaust.0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds, cost will be around $40,000. That is a lot of money the 2000 lightning is around 31500. If I could afford it I'd want the 6 passanger capabilities and the 4 wheel drive and probably close to the performance of the lightning.
I test drove a black Lightning (after travelling 180 mi to a dealer, one-way) yesterday. If I were deciding based on performance and fun factor alone, I wouldn't even consider the Cobra. I never thought I'd enjoy driving a truck as much as I did, except maybe for the defunct GMC Syclone. However, realistically, since I'm having a difficult time finding a dealer that'll come anywhere below MSRP for the '99.5 (if I'm going to pay MSRP, I'll get a '00), I'll probably settle for the Cobra (potentially ~$5000 difference between the two, BEFORE TT&L). Or, I may just wait to see if Toyota will put out a Tundra-based Lightning challenger in the near future (BTW, I was born in Japan but grew up in the US for the last 27 years, primarily as a Texan, so I have no problem w/ buying either Ford or Toyota; it's whoever has the best product).
Job 1 for the 2000 lightning has been set for dec.o6,1999.The 2000 year model changes include: overhead console,am/fm radio with single CD,color keyed mirrors and rear tinted glass power sliding window. The 2000 model will also use a rear exit exhaust system. My lighting will be number 56 off the assemble line. Also a new color might be considered(YELLOW).
The insurance cost on a lightning is no different than a regular pickup, there is a slight differance on the theft and fire because it is an expensive truck to replace.
Too bad you couldn't post those OH Lightning prices earlier. Do you think they'd stay below MSRP for the '00s?.
Since I wasn't able to find one anywhere below MSRP here in TX, I figured I'd get a '00. However, my wife found a nice used BMW she wanted so I bought her that. I still may have a chance at getting the '00. I just hope my enthusiasm for them doesn't fade away.
I ordered a 2000 Lightning tonite. I got a white one with just the 6 disc changer. My dealer gave me a-plan as my wife works for Ford. the price was $26016 plus tax which is 6% here in Michigan. I don't have any more info yet but will keep everyone informed. Do you have to burn premium fuel in these trucks?
I HAVE A 95 LIGHTNING THAT YOU CAN NOT EVEN COME NEAR!!! (MUCH LESS SMOKEING IT!!!) NOT TO MAKE ANYBODY MAD BUT THE little syclone IS NOT AS FAST AS MY TRUCK!!! "FORD LIGHTNING 4 LIVE"
I had a lightning it was a great truck, but living in Boston and working on the big dig the truck was useless, to many potholes and with the winter coming totally useless even if you put winter tires and rims on it the front lower facia would probably get ruined.I did have a second car but after awhile thought it was stupid to insure and drive 2 vehicles, they will be making the lightning for 6 years and the 2001 is supposed to be quicker than the model out now, so I'm sure I'll have another one maybe in a few years.
I just read that the 2001.5 lightning is supposed to be 450 HP with a new 5.4 4 valve engine with possibly a factory superchip, and the 2001.5 cobra is gonna step it up a notch to compete with the corvette and a new contour model will compete with the camaros and firebirds.
barlitz, I looked at BlueOvalNews and found 1 paragraph of info on the 2001.5s. (what is exactly is "JOB1"?). Maybe I wasn't looking carefully. Where did you get your info?
More power for the 2001.5? Oooooooo... I don't think I can wait that long, though. If it comes in a supercab, well maybe...
What are you thinking , you think the 2001.5 Lighting is going to be a better winter vehicle. I heard that one option was a bulldozer blade for all that snow and bigfoot tires for the potholes.
No I didn't mean that I was one of the first lightning owners in my area 5/99.The truck was more of an investmant than it was a everyday vehicle, but it was also in the shop a lot for little stupid things, rear window molding defective, passanger seat would not go back after accessing the cd changer, noise in front end over bumps and turning, hesitation on acceleration.even with those problems the lightning is highly recommended by me ,but I will wait til they get all the little bugs and defects out.Now I have a 99 F250 xlt supercab 4x4 which is perfect for New England weather until the spring, then I'll be drooling for another lightning if they'd only make an all wheel drive V10 supercharged supercab I heard a rumor about.
fpgapldguy I read that info at the F150.com lightning page and I aslo read it in the superford magazine
I do a lot of car and truck reading online and I did read Chevy is redoing their vehicles to,I also read that toyota is making a supercharged version of the tundra and dodge is considering putting the viper engine in a high performance ram pickup. In the next 5 years or so they'll be a lot of new ideas out there. There will be a lot of expensive toys to choose from.Of course my toys will always be the best.
Just finished riding in a 2000 Silverado 4x4 Xcab that Autotek here in Austin installed a whipple supercharger on. Dyno at rear wheels = 315hp which also included a aftermarket performance exhaust system and a airaid air filter system. AWSOME ! He (the owner of Autotek) came off the line once with it engaged in 2Hi and lit up the tires and roared down the road. Great for show but lost traction even with a posi rear end. Engaging Chevy's "Autotrac system" made this truck really take off the line.....FAST! I just recently sold off my 96 Cobra & BMW M3 and I'll tell you, this truck was as fast as either of these two (at least until 70MPH, which aerodynamics is most likely to let the Cobra & Bimmer catch up). I like the thought of having a truck that can: 1. haul people (more than 2 ) 2. haul & tow more than the Lightning 3. be able to off road/drive in snow 4. race unsuspecting Cobras, Lightnings, Camaros, rice rockets, etc. I was really impressed, surprised me how quiet the supercharger was, I was expecting a whine most of the time.
How much was the whipple supercharger,I had a lightning but got rid of it for the same reasons you agree upon.I now have an F250 light duty 4x4 supercab 4 door the truck is great, but I sometimes miss the lightning's power,I have ordered a gibson cat back exhaust and would consider the supercharger.
Some one contacted the dealer with the red Lightning, but they got your number wrong. They said they would take 27.5k for it. If still interested look at my previous post for the salesman's number. BTW the local dealers are taking orders on the 2000's below sticker. Mike Bass Ford quoted 2k off sticker, and the other dealers will match. I like the "half a truck", I think my Fiero has more payload & tow capacity than the Syclone. Check out the Lightning message board at http://www.f150online.com for more info and track times
I tried to sell my lightning for $28000. couldn't get any buyers it had lojack, hinge mount tonneau, bedliner,cd changer with 2300 miles.I ended up trading in it got $26500 towards an F250 supercab 4x4 plus 6000 off sticker of F250 and if you figure 5% sales tax in Mass I really got $28000 for lightning(I had paid $1500 tax for lightning)The dealer sold it for $27900. 3 days later, this is probably the toughest time of the year to try to sell those vehicles there isn't a market for them right now.
99 Silverado X-cab, LT, 4 x 4, Indigo blue with gray leather w/5.3. Going with the JBA's for approx. 15hp, 15ft/lbs at the rear wheels!! Most manufactures claim 30hp, 25 ft/lbs but these figures are usually not after all the parasitic loss from the powertrain. I took these figures from an actual dyno test made before & after JBA header installation.
Has anyone bought their Lightning (or any other vehicle for that matter) outside of their local area and had it shipped home on a truck (w/in the US)? I'm seriously considering doing this and would appreciate any feedback/opinions.
I've gotten a shipping quote from Mike Bass Ford (sound familiar?) to Austin, and I'll need to get one originating from Decatur, AL. I don't know who's the best transporter so I was hoping that someone had some good comments on a few.
What year lightning are you considering? I had a 99 it was a great truck but a lot of minor problems I think the 2000 will have the exhaust coming from the rear rather than side with an overhead console very convenient,I aslo read that the 2001 might be pushing 450HP with a factory superchip and and new air flow system if that is true than I will buy another in 2001.
