99silverado vibration problem

  I recently bought a 99 Silverado 1500 ext. cab with a 4.8 engine and automatic tranny. Almost immediately became aware of the launch shudder, to which they are about to adjust the driveline angle. It only occurs at initial acceleration. It was my third visit ( before finding this site~ Can't wait till I see them again. ) and their response was still "Launch shudder huh, Haven't heard that one. But we'll try the drive line." I haven't yet scheduled it for the adjustment, I am learning more everyday. I may need the leaf springs, shackles and possibly a transmission.
  
  I tried to explain the service manager about the tranny having what seemed to be occasional delayed shifts at higher gears and harsh shifts at lower gears. To which he actually told me that the tranny has a computer that will alter the shift points if you change your driving style ( Mood ). Anyone out there care to back him up on that???
  STEVE ~ SCRAW if you are still out there. Sounds like BS. I have read some similar tranny trouble but can't find any flash codes for my VIN.
  
  Rear quarter windows have been replaced, framing and all. Before the tint job.
  
  Braking while in a turn occasionally has a very serious side effect. Jolts dramatically. This has yet been acknowledged by the service dept. It may be just the tires skipping. Sure don't feel like it.
  
  I do believe the Chevrolet Trucks are the best designed and the best looking. Only being so mass produced may be the cause of these problems. I have spoke to an ex-line worker. Most people realize this, but the fact is that the vehicles rarely stop, can you imagine? You literally have to move with it to get your part installed. I don't imagine it goes over well when someone has to stop the line to finish a proper installation. I believe they should slow the line just a little. Not enough to raise prices, but to get what we are paying for. I still don't think any of us would ever have trouble finding a new truck.
  
  Toyota Tundra ~ test drove one.... I DON'T THINK SO!! They call that a full size truck?
  
  Tranny flat spots are best described at #248 of Topic #969. It seems jeffthro had a split shaft seal on his tranny. Though his repair was short lived.
  
  I also have the rough idle, but again I couldn't find any new codes for my VIN. 16K miles, I hope that's not normal.
  
  Seeking updates on LAUNCH SHUDDER, ROUGH IDLE, and TRANSMISSION SHIFT DELAYS. The rep at the 1-800 actually told me without getting VIN's from these other so called trucks with LAUNCH SHUDDER she couldn't help me because she saw no prior problems. This was on MARCH 14TH !! 2000 !!!

  Hi guy's please help me if you can . I just found this site and you may be my last hope. I have a 99 silverado LT. I have a sheet metal rattle that is driving me nuts. My dealer say's that they can't verify the problem. It is coming from under the truck I think, but it seems to change its location at will. Any advice? Thanks!

  for the muffler? But I don't think it will change locations, maybe you have two rattles that sound similar...at what speed is the rattle occurring? Going over bumps? Could it be from the engine compartment? How loud is it? Apparently we need a little more info. Only when engine cold? hot?

  The rattle that I was trying to describe is very hard to diagnose, because sometimes it sounds like it is coming from under the dash and sometimes it sounds like a heat shield. It does it most at idle with my foot on the brake, and the engine is cold. I am trying to dismiss the possibility that there is two different rattles because they both have the same tone, just different volumes.

  The clunk is cured by applying GM grease 12345879
  to the sliding spline portion of the driveshaft so it will no longer stick in the extended position.
  No other grease works. It costs $30 for a pint can but you can beg a little from the mechanic at your local dealership. There is a bulletin about it, 92-265-7A, formerly 91-242-7A. I also recommend, while you have the driveshaft out, slightly rounding the corners of the spline teeth.
  
  Brakes pulling to one side can be caused by front brake hoses that are delaminating inside. If there is no visible or obvious problems with bad wheel bearings, scored rotors, seized up caliper slides, then replace both right and left hoses (cheap to do) before doing any other (usually expensive) work.

  I have a 99 Z71 with 25,000 miles
  At about 12,000 miles my truck started to make a noise after a complete stop
  At 17,000 miles I took it to GM for service the Tech stated that it was caused by rust on the Yolk He removed the rust and greased noise went away. I had planned to use some AMSOIL Synthetic grease when thid was worn off I waited to long.
  The noise was back.
  I went to another GM dealer. They were a wear of the problem and that you should use a synthetic grease but ALSO ADDED a 1/2" round rubber super ball into the yolk. The problem has not came back.
  The service manger told me that EXT Cab and Tahoe have this problem but since they added the ball no one has returned their truck for the Clunk noise
  Will let you know if it returns.

  The PICKUPS Conference has gotten WAY too big....
  
  it is unwieldy to manage, and difficult to use for "newbies". There is entirely TOO much topic duplication, so I will be doing some SERIOUS topic consolidation in the next few weeks, getting us down to not more than 2-3 topics per vehicle type, and ultimately down to 200 topics or less.
