Looks like edmunds already updated the destination charges on their web but the base price still shows $22,500.

Anybody find a bug-wind deflector for the front of your sporty yet? If so where?
  • lasveganlasvegan Member Posts: 53
Anybody really know when this cover will be available. Is there a problem with them? Its seems like a simple thing. They are available for other trucks..... So really whats the hold up on them. Im hoping Ford just isn't throwing something together to just pacify Us who are waiting for our truck to be delivered with one on it. Does any one know the REAL story????
  • lambchoplambchop Member Posts: 24
Have any of you that already have your ST had to bring it back to the dealer for any problems (either major or minor)? I am just curious. Mine is suppose to be delivered to the dealer in about 10 days.

    lambchop,

So far the only problems I have it the rear split fold down seats didn't fold correctly. I fixed that myself (See previous post).

And, The rear seats backs are not even. One touches the rear wall and one sits 1.5" from the rear wall. I plan on having the dealer fix this on my first service.

I discovered something today! One of the cup holders is two pieces. The rubber insert can be removed for larger cups. If you look closely, it is written in the rubber mold. Once removed you can fit one of those 7-11 Big Gulps in it.

I really have to take some time and read my manual. :-)

Alaska Bike asked about the type of 4wd system on the sport trac. It is NOT full time 4wd. It is a part time system designed for wet roads, mud, snow etc. The owners manual does not recommend using 4wd high or low on dry pavement.

I have had my sport trac for 3 weeks & about 1100 miles now. About 18 mpg on mixed driving, mostly at 55 to 70 mph. (4x2 version) No problems to report.

My dealer called today and said that I can pick up my Sport Trac at 9am Sat. That is about 6.5 weeks from when I ordered it. I am excited!

For those who ordered island blue. Recently saw island blue ST down in Cape May, NJ. The color looked really cool.Looked much better than in the brochure. Havent gotten my red one yet.
  • debrancdebranc Member Posts: 1
I purchased red Sport Trac about a month ago and it is the best vehicle I have ever owned and I have owned several. This is my third Explorer. I am a 46 year old professional female and I really have gotten alot of attention driving this vehicle. There are still only a few on the road in our area in N.E. North Carolina. Those of you who are waiting will be thrilled. I had been waiting for almost a year for this vehicle to come out and it is worth the wait.

Just picked up my Island Blue ST. The color looks green in the shade but in the sunlight it is a beautiful sparkling blue. It is fun to drive.
  • pbanko7pbanko7 Member Posts: 17
went on a one hour test drive today in horrible, cold, wet, snowy, and windy weather. sport trac did fine, very low noise. drove a toreador red, but they also had an island blue. tough choice between those two colors, both beautiful. btw, the rear view mirror was in the down position, but by moving it to the upper position, i had a clear and unobstructed view out the windshield.

anybody see the need for mudflaps on the sport trac? thanks.
  • zack1000zack1000 Member Posts: 84
Mudflaps would definitely be helpful on the sport trac. Although cleaning any gunk off the platinum bumpers/side trim is quite easy.

Will a full size adult ATV like a Quadrunner fit
in the bed with the gate open.I have an Explorer
now but am thinking about ST.A few options I have
and like are temperature/compass in overhead
console, premium stereo with cd/cassette,power drivers seat.I also have leather and moonroof but
    could do without them.

Yesterday I ordered my Sport Trac and paid $200 under Dealer invoice. I really did my homework on this and shopped around several dealerships in my area over the internet so that I would have the quotes in writing. I see alot of people in this site paid over invoice, but I just wanted to let people know that you can purchase or order this vehicle under or at Dealer's Invoice.

    Mikeysmom,
I have been shopping for a ST for some time. I want the Estate Green which does not yet seem to be in production so I've been taking my time. The best deal I've gotten so far is Dealer invoice plus 700. If you got your ST within a day's drive of Knoxville,TN I sure would like the name of your dealer.
  • dfedfe Member Posts: 1
After responding to Milkysmom's post using my wife's handle (mtlaurel) I went in and registered myself.
If there are any Ford Dealers in 1 day's drive of Knoxville, TN that want to match Milkysmom's deal please drop me an E-mail at dfedwards@utk.edu

I live in Buffalo New York and the dealer I ordered the ST from is 5 minutes away from my home. I ordered a wholesale price list from Consumer's Report and just played hardball with the salespeople I dealt with. If you let them know that you know what the invoice price is and they want the sale bad enough they deal with you.

somewhere i saw a picture of an ATV in the back of a sport trac with the tailgate down and the cargo cage all the way back. it looked like it just fit! sorry, i can't tell you where i saw that picture. probably best if you check dimensions with actual measurements anyway.

I have a ST with 800 miles on it. I need to tow my boat but I've not been able to find a trailer hitch for it. My boat exceeds the 3500 lb. bumper limit; however, is well under the 5300 lb towing vehicle limit. We tried a hitch for a regular Exployer and it would not clear the bumper. Any ideas where I can get a hitch?
  • tl565tl565 Member Posts: 78
My guess is to try one made for the extended cab Ford Ranger. The ST has the same wheelbase as the Extended Cab Ford Ranger, so maybe the rear structure of the ST is similar to the Ranger and will use the same trailer hitch setup.

I ordered my 4X2 Sport Trac with Harvest Gold CC with dark graphite cloth interior. My good buddy is ordering his this week - 4X2 with Toreador Red CC with dark graphite cloth interior.

Now that we have ordered all our ST's and still have more to be ordered, it would be nice to have a FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC CLUB.
  • tl565tl565 Member Posts: 78
It would be great to have a Sport Trac club. I'd be interested in comparing notes with people who may make some modifications to their STs. Things like adding a tonneau cover or adding a Borla exhuast system, etc. Has anyone seen any dedicated web pages for the ST yet?
  • bennbbennb Member Posts: 143
You can get all of those options in the Sport Trac except for cassette. The stereo probably won't be as nice as in your Explorer, but it's still adequate. I owned a 96 Eddie Bauer Explorer loaded and I just love the Sport Trac, especially after I get a tonneau for it I think. If interested in the ST, go for it.
  • petty1petty1 Member Posts: 20
    Ya,

A Sport Trac Club would be a great idea. I metioned before about aftermarket parts for the ST like a exhaust system and K&N filter. I wrote to Explorer Expess and they said that they are looking at the ST and will get back to me on some parts. The ST does not really need any exterior face lifts at all. (It's good looking just the way it is). Exhaust system would boost the power of this fabulous truck. (Helps towing).

    zshark,

I Can't say if they sit higher than the 2WD but I can say I've been driving my 4WD ST for 3 Weeks so your getting a line from the dealer.
  • bennbbennb Member Posts: 143
I've been driving a 4wd ST for 3 weeks as well and I do think they sit just a little bit higher than the 2wd versions. I didn't order mine though.
  • fordsporttracfordsporttrac Member Posts: 300
    Found the article but...

    Sounds like they need some new writers. First, the photo is not the Sport Trac, And second they make this really great comment;

(When flipped out over Explorer Sport Trac's tailgate, it extends the cargo area length from more than 4 feet to almost 6 feet to accommodate several 4- by 8-foot sheets of plywood)

I guess they cut their plywood first! ;-0

I am going to go out on a limb here, but I believe that the bed being all composite, is connected to the outside painted( which is also the same composite!) side, is not able to have stake holes, unless of course you drilled them out yourself. Just a hunch.
  • fordsporttracfordsporttrac Member Posts: 300
    pgn_tx,

Is a Stake Hole the square holes in the top edge of some pick up beds??? If so the Sport Trac dosn't have them. The plastic cover you refer to WAS the bed of the truck. The entire tail end of the truck, (bed and fenders) is made of composite.

    Hey Man,

I have seen one in Tonawanda, N.Y. and Mississauga, Ontario. I am from Mississauga and have seen the 4wd and 2wd (with Premium sport group) together and they are the same height. If you order the 2wd without the Premium sport group you get the 15" wheels so that would make the 2wd lower of course. Both vehicles seen were in black without the tonneau cover. I'm waiting for mine and it's like waiting for a XMAS present.

    To jcraigc:

My priority code was a "10". I received the ST in 6 1/2 weeks.

Does anyone know anything about that in-bed bike rack that I saw on the brochure? I'm expecting my 4x4 ST any day now and as soon as I get it, I want to pick up my new mountain bike and carry it in the bed. My dealer doesn't have any information on them from Ford, but I saw an ad for one in a magazine. I'm wondering how well they work.

I am looking for brush guards for my sport trac and have not had any luck finding them. Anyone else find anything.
  • t_mooset_moose Member Posts: 8
My sport trac's cd changer seems to have jamed up. I can't play or eject any CD's! The dealer can't even give me a date for when a new one will be in. Anyone have any tips to get this thing un-jammed?

Ordered my ST on Friday, April 7. Dealer is telling me 8 to 10 weeks. I ordered 4x2 with premium sport group and convenience group. Oxford white exterior with graphite interior and cargo cage for 3% over invoice. Here in Phoenix the ST's are going for MSRP and plus so I felt good getting it for what I did. Even my credit union didn't do as well as I did on my own. This is a great site for a great SUV. Can't wait!!!

Dockery.....What I use right know in my pickup is a glider board with bike tights on it..It clamps on your fork to keep your bikes upright and has rubber on bottom to keep it from moving around..It just sits in your bed .. I got this at frankford bike shop.. www.frankfordbike.com This is the best place to shop for bike stuff!!check it out!! And if you want one like in the brochure nashbar ( www.bikenashbar.com ) has a nice one..you will pay dearly for it...$170.00
    Good luck..

Anyone have the dates on which these options will be available? I ordered my ST without them so as not to delay delivery, but hope they'll be available soon.
  • tae121tae121 Member Posts: 20
I just ordered my ST on April 6th from a very small dealer out in the country. A VERY SMALL dealer! He said that the delivery time might be longer since only a certain number of ST's are allocated to the area and the bigger dealers have priority over them, even if an order has been placed. I definitely know that he is not giving me the run around because he doesn't sell many new cars and he is trying everything he can to get it delivered (and make the profit) as soon as possible. Does anyone know anything about this allocation and how long it usually takes to get to the smaller dealers? I want my ST now!!!!!! Any information would be great...thank you!
  • mikeysmommikeysmom Member Posts: 18
I talked to several dealerships in my area and was told the same thing. If you order from a bigger dealership you will get the ST faster than if you order from a smaller one. I ordered from a bigger dealership and was told 6 to 8 weeks. In fact the dealership I ordered from had 3 ST's on order for just them and reconfigured the ST to what I wanted in terms of color and options so that I would get it by the end of May. I hoping by Memorial Day weekend.

I ordered my sport trac from a dealer in a town of 6,500 people and it took me 6 1/2 weeks to get it. So it didn't seem any slower than the other delivery times that have been posted on this board.
  • zack1000zack1000 Member Posts: 84
    Ghayes 13---

The cargo cage is available now. If you had ordered your vehicle with one it wouldn't have held up delivery.

It's the tonneau cover that is delayed. I don't know anyone who actually has one yet...
  • lasveganlasvegan Member Posts: 53
Thanks for the insider info, From we who have waited need a little encouragement regarding the top. I have contacted "Snugtop" with no luck only a top for the Nissian four door. A mire $750 for the about the same size cover in color of your choice.
Im waiting for my Sporty to come with the Ford product (tonneau top) instald with a measure of confidence. Reason being is I owned a 92 Explorer and it was an awsome SUV. My wife hated we sold it but the Sport Trac came along and well..... you know the rest of the story.
Thanks for going out on that
limb Mr. jimsteele43569 I tip my hat to you.

I was messing around last night and kind of stumbled onto this site. I ordered my 4x4 ST on March 5th. My dealer called me this week and said it should be here on April 24th. I won't get a good nights sleep until that baby gets here. It's like when I was a kid on Christmas Eve, the wait is KILLING me. Reading all the posts here, I see I am not alone. I guess in Kansas they're easy to deal with. I got into mine for about $500 over invoice. Of course they wouldn't give me squat for my trade in of a pretty nice '86 F150.
