To all that own the 6 pack CD. Has anyone had any problems with this unit. It seems to be a quality unit which I found out is built by Pioneer but on #322 (post- t moose), he said that the unit jammed on him and he could'nt eject any of his cd's. Just curious because I have ordered it on my ST.
If you will read on page 19 of the owner's manual, it says,
"The air conditioning compressor will operate in all modes except (lower vents only) and (upper vents only). However, the air conditioning will only function if the outside temperature is about 50 F or higher."
Thanks for the info, I just passed the 500 mile mark and I was going to start clocking gas mileage. The AC would have dragged that down a bit.
I'm starting to wonder if I'm missing something in my owners manual package. I looked carefully for that other post that described turning off the rear audio controls by pressing 3 & 5 together. I still can't find it in my manual. :-( But it does work. :-)
Have all you new ST owners registered your vehicle at Ford's www.Ownerconnection.com web site?
You register your VIN number and can look up different info about your vehicle. I imagine in time you will be able to track your dealer maintenance and other stuff.
A few posts back, someone commented that you could not get heated mirrors or a rear window defroster on the ST, and that was O.K. because they were not available on any truck.
Well, heated mirrors and a rear window defroster are on my '00 Dakota QC along with a V8 and a stick shift.(0 to 60 in 7.5!!!)
In the ST you get a rear power window so how could you have a rear window defroster. For a 4.0 V6 (0 to 60 in 8.5!!!) that's pretty good- man -your V8 is only a second faster- and I'll take the 5 speed auto anyday over a stick. Heated mirrors are for the big boys.(Navigator, Excursion). ST all the way!
I looked at the Dakota...no thanks. The power rear window of the Sport Trac is MUCH more INNOVATIVE than what others offer. Being able to remotely lower the window all the way or to vent mode is a GREAT idea. In fact, the ST is full of NEW ideas, it is a very UNIQUE vehicle....6 Disk in dash changer, first vehicle with a fully composite bed, unique styling, exclusive cargo cage, power outlet in bed, water resitant seats, etc etc.... Everything else out there is YESTERDAY'S news.
Hello all! I'm getting ready to purchase a Sport Trac. I'm just having a difficult time deciding what method of purchase is viable at the moment. Are the dealerships beginning to stock more? Or, is my best bet to purchase online (carsdirect.com, ie)? Any helpful clues would be extremely appreciated! By the way, I'm located in Phoenix, Arizona (if that helps).
Try calling the dealer closest to you, or one that you are comfortable with and ask for the Fleet Department. They will usually quote you a price for the vehicle (usually a $ amount over invoice). For me that has been the easiest. I didn't care for carsdirect.com or autobytel. Good luck.
ahhhh, I won't go there. Us Sport Trac owners and future owners have said enough. Thanks girls and boys for the support. Enjoy and have a Happy Easter!
Okay, a while back i remembered seeing an adobe acrobat file that publiched all of the info on the sport trac that the dealers got, well doing a search for the money factor on the sport trac (which by the way if anyone knows would help!!!) I found the site again!!! here is a link to the whole info that the dealers got on the sport trac!
tl565: I like my st a lot too but as far as new and exclusive: Chrysler has had an in dash changer for at least the last 2 model years on some models. The bed extender is also on the F-150 and JC Whitney has them in hteir catalog.
petty1: You can have a rear window defroster on a moveable rear window. I had one on my 82 Jeep Cherokee.
You can not get an in dash changer in the Dakota. The indash changers that Chrysler offers in their sedans is only a FOUR disk unit, not a 6 disc unit like the ST. The ST is the only vehicle in its class with it.
The bed extender that Ford offers (ST and Super Crew) are the ONLY factory installed bed extenders offered in the United States. Ford has an EXCLUSIVE agreement with the manufacturer.
The unit that Nissan puts in their advertising is a bit misleading. You can NOT get a factory installed one on the Nissan. It is only an AFTERMARKET unit. If you look at their unit closely, you will note it is far inferior in its operation. It has these cheap nylon straps that hold it in the extended position, unlike the ST which has the two positivve locking, color coded mechanical devices. A MUCH better design in my opinion.
Well, I guess I am the only one who has had problems with the CD changer. Mine is still jammed up, can't play or eject. The Dealer still can't give me a date for a replacement unit. Starting to get P.O. Over three weeks now! I did get a free tank of gas and a deal (invoice) on the Tonneau (when it's available) when I went back and complained again.
I have been searching everywhere for grill guards for my ST, has anyone found them yet?
Hi...I live in Chandler and got a pretty good deal through a friend of mine from work who also works at Berge Ford in Mesa as a Salesman. I tried going through my credit union and I still did better with my friend. If you want, e-mail me with your name and number and I will have him give you a call. It was the cheapest deal I could find on the ST here in the valley. HMLRHT1@aol.com
Does anyone know where I can order a T-cover that won't take 3-4 weeks to get? I live in Seattle. Also if you already have one has it improved your mileage like the Ford CD that came with the ST claims? Thanks.
Does anyone know the dimensions of the cargo area in the ST? I want to be sure I can haul 4' x 8' sheets of something (drywall, plywood, etc..). Only need to do it a few times a year, so I don't really have the need for a full size truck. Do the sheets fit in the bed, on the top of it, or not at all? If not, I'll probably end up getting the Supercrew.
Just took in my ST to get the leak repaired and the dealership said they'd replace the headliner as well, so that was a nice surprise. Already miss it a lot.
I phoned the Ford customer service line yesterday to found out if my ST which I ordered on April 03/00 is being constucted. The person on the other line said there was 'no status' Now I am wondering if I can order the tonneau separate from the truck- I want that tonneau cover but I don't want to wait all summer for it. I would like to enjoy my ST for some of the summer. I'm heading down to the dealer today.
My husband and I ordered our ST February 28th and were just given a build date of May 8th so sit tight because it's going to be a while. Anyone out there have any clue how long it actually takes to build a vehicle these days and how long after that it may be expected to ship? Of course nobody at Ford was able to answer that question. I'm looking at the end of May or beginning of June for delivery. We're already in our 8th week here and we were told 6-8 weeks. No surprise here!
I am planning to buy a sporttrac this weekend. I am in the California Bay area. Can anyone suggest me what price tag I can expect on a fully loaded 4x4 sport trac and which dealer would you suggest
Those of you who ordered a while ago and still do not have a build date...what size of dealership did you order from? I ordered from a small one on April 6th and still dont even have a VIN# yet.
My husband and I ordered from a large dealership in North Charleston, SC. Of course, my idea of large may different from yours. They sell a lot of trucks there.
I ordered my ST way back in November when my dealer first told me about the truck. I ordered a 4x2 loaded with tan leather and tonneau cover (we thought it might be late February when the tonneau would become available) After hearing the very late availability I cancelled the tonneau in mid March. (my dealer stated it takes about 3 weeks to arrive once the truck is ready) I ordered through a very large dealership in Arizona and everyday we look my truck up on his computer and it still says "MATERIAL HOLD". Anyone know why? We both have been calling and e mailing other dealerships but the trucks that come in are already taken or they don't have the features I want. HELP!!!!
everyone has been so good at sharing information, i had to share this. had my sport trac all picked out and was ready to purchase. after first test drive, 15 minutes later, motion sickness! second test drive (2 weeks later) 15 mins after test drive, motion sickness again! i can't get this vehicle! i don't know what it is, but there is something about the ride, that if you are a person susceptible to motion sickness (both my wife and i), this vehicle can make you sick. i hate to admit it, but true story. make sure you go for a good test drive.
I ordered my ST in mid march and still waiting because of tonneau cover. Heard that cover wont be in production until June. This seems to be verified by JimSteel. Then maybe wait 3 weeks later. If you take ST without the cover now, you may have to pay more for it later. So Im gonna sit tight.
bjohn1225: The bed is 40" between the wheel wells and 49 1/2 above the wheel wells so a full sheet of plywood will fit inside. The bed is 50" front to back with gate closed, about 70" long with the tailgate down. I have similar plans to haul the occasional sheet of plywood or lumber in mine.
Everyone that has there ST already be damn careful with it. I got the rear bumper wrapped underneath where the spare is located. The dealer has no idea how long it will take to get a replacement. If anyone has required any body parts can you give me an idea of how long it will take. If not I will keep everyone posted on my situation. I only had my ST for 4 days, needless to say I am very depressed.
I ordered my ST on December 7th. Have recently been told that I will get delivery on May 4th. I am crossing my fingers.
Being a little peeved at Ford for their lack of response to my queries, I reacted to a recent writers advice and went to the "Owner Connection" for an answer as to "what is the reason for such incredibly slow delivery times." They came back via e-mail three days later with this answer. "Please accept our apologies for the delay which was due to a combination of parts and assembly delays."
That certainly clears things up. The answer has to be that the large dealers are getting the inventory. Ford knows where the bread is buttered. Such are the ways of life.
I ordered my ST 4x4 on March 5th. It was built on April 10th and finally made it to me in Wichita, Kansas today, the 25th. Compared to some out there I feel like I got mine in good time. I'll go pick it up tomorrow. I'm pumped! Thanks to some of the posts here I know where to look for some potential problems. I sure hope I don't find any.
Your material hold is probably the tonneau cover. Read the other emails reference the probable availability date--I think its July.
As for the build dates, I'm in the same boat as most of you. I ordered my ST on 3/30/00 and I don't have a VIN yet. Ford customer service told me that the order is awaiting assignment. More importantly, the "system" is only updated once a week. Hopefully by Friday, I will have more encouraging news. Yes, I ordered from a small dealer in MO.
I currently own an F-150 XLT 4 x 4 Supercab and was about to purchase a 2000, same model w/ more options when my wife spied the Sport Track. Always intimidated by the size of the F-150 she suggested that we consider the S T as an alternative. We took it for a ride and it is a neat vehicle. I am skeptical though since I am accustomed to the F-150 with V8's, I'm on my second. My wife feels since I don't tow, haul large loads and generally use the truck as a large SUV with a larger bed for shopping, transportation to work (100 miles round trip per day) and vacations, the S T is the way to go. Has anyone else had the same reservations comparing these two vehicles? Unfortunately, we can't have both. thx...m
Does Ford offer extended warranty for the ST? If so does anyone have any info about the coverage and cost? This will be the first Ford I've ever owned. Thanks
My husband also owns a F150 and I also feel intimidated by it's size. We ordered a ST a few weeks ago and when I test drove the ST it was like driving a car. I could easily park it between 2 vehicles without a problem. I always hated parking my husband's truck. It seemed SO BIG. The V6 in the ST seemed to have a lot of pick up. I know that the V8 gives you more power, but if you not towing anything think about the gas you'll be saving.
My ST has been at the dealer for 2 days now, due to the roof leak continuing. At first they discovered the moon roof drain hose disconnected. They fixed it, but it still leaked.
I took it back and upon several hours with the vehicle they found hairline fractures in the moon roof drain tray, or something like that. They said it's definately a manuf. defect. The new parts came in today, so I am hopeful to get the truck back. They are also going to replace the headliner (2 months).
I can't wait to get it back. The Escort loaner just doesnt cut it!
Just picked up my ST and they readjusted the drain tube from the moonroof so it won't leak anymore. We'll see! They replace the headliner as well and washed my car due to its dirtiness. Hopefully this is the last time it'll have the leak.
Here is a link to Ford's extended sevice plan page. I don;t believe there are any prices there but it does explain the differetn options on the coverage. If you have already purchased your vehicle you can call Ford directly at (800)FORD-ESP and they will quote you a price.
Does the Premium Sport Group require the 4.10 axle? If so is there an extra charge? Does anyone have pros and cons for the anti-slip axle? I will be ordering the 2WD. Thanks..

So far no problems.

From what I hear the tonneau cover from Ford won't be available until sometime this summer.

Can the softtop be secured or is it a high (easy) theft item? Again thanks...
