Well as soon as I get off my butt and throw the beer cooler in the trunk, the 5th Ave and me are Carlisle bound! I'll keep an eye out for gas prices, and catch up with y'all when I get back on Sunday!

The York area is down to $2.45. Generally, Carlisle is cheaper. Bring your umbrella.

Well, we sort of lucked out with the rain. Friday was nice, and so was most of Saturday. Cheapest gasoline I saw was at a Gulf station in Highspire. 87 octane was advertised at a cash price of $2.299 and a credit price of $2.339. Saw lots of $2.3X around Carlisle.

I ended up filling up at the Shell down here, for $2.799/93 octane and then topped off up in Dillsburg at the Getty at the 15/74 intersection. And again, I was amazed at the NYer's fuel economy. 21.5 mpg. And this time, I made sure to top off, to ensure it was an accurate reading.

And I wasn't trying to hyper-mile it or anything. I drove it like I normally would...flow of traffic, or just a bit faster. Probably doing 65-75 for the most part. If some crude, smogged down old brute like that could get that kind of mpg, it sorta makes me wondder why today's cars don't do better! Of course, most of today's cars get a little better than 10 mpg around town! :P

Oh, while I was up there, I snagged some aluminum alloy wheels, that were originally offered on the '80-83 Cordoba/Mirada. They felt a few pounds lighter than the conventional steel wheels. I wonder if something like that would have any effect on fuel economy, what with that sprung vs unsprung weight, reciprocating mass, or whatever they call it.

That's great andre, glad everything went well with the car and show.

I have the same reaction with my Olds - it gets pretty good mileage and I kind of laugh when people talk about how their "whatever" gets great highway mileage and I think, that's not that much better than my Olds and it's built up. But then they just look at or hear the Olds and immediately it's a gas-guzzler - I'm like it's not what you drive it's how you drive it.

for the truck was for $2.60 at the Thorrntons by home. This one's been a nice surprise as their prices have been the lowest the past few weeks by home. My usual place is still running the same as the local Shell / BP / Mobil at $2.68, while the Shell & BP by work is $2.61 / $2.62.

still dropping. I noticed the Shell this morning was at $2.439/$2.619/$2.719 for 87/89/93 octane.

I wonder if we'll get back down below $2.00/gal by the fall?

    RUG = $2.51 (unchanged)
Ultra = $2.79 (down two cents)

Down to $2.59 at the Stinker for Regular, $2.71 and $2.81 for mid grade and hi-test.

The majors are a bit more with a few holdouts getting $2.69 for RUG.
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
Another two cents down to $2.53 here. I understand it's in the $2.2x range down in the Harrisburg area
  • 210delray210delray Member Posts: 4,721
Our home county of Albemarle is in the "yellow zone" on Gas Buddy, with prices in the upper $2.30s to lower $2.40s for RUG. But just one county to the west over the Blue Ridge Mountains, it's in the darker green zone, with prices indicated as low as $2.11 or so.

There is a BP on my route to work with RUG at $2.33. Also just got back from the Detroit area, where the going rate was $2.39, but I saw $2.29 at one place.
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
So you no doubt moved south for the cheaper gas. ;)

Paid $2.35 for regular here at the Jersey shore yesterday. I'm almost to the point where I'm ready to just throw in $10 worth or so because the price drop per gallon from last fill up to yesterday was close to 15 cents! We'll get back to that $1.29 low I hit on the last dip.

So the off-brands are likely a few cents cheaper for regular.

One station was advertising diesel at the same price at regular while another one a few blocks away was $2.69.

The salesperson at the Toyota dealer mentioned this morning that getting a Prius right now, optioned like you want it, would be relatively easy (but watch out if the gas prices pops for some reason).
  • 210delray210delray Member Posts: 4,721
Not intentionally for that purpse, but VA generally has lower prices than my native PA now. My personal recent low was $1.35 last December in Toms River, NJ -- near where you live.

Right now, the lowest I've seen is $2.27 at BP and one cent less at the aptly named "Lowest Price."
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
You're still a little cheaper than us but it's close.

My recent low was in that same time frame - $1.29. Would love to see that again.

How are your property taxes (well, at least the real estate property taxes) down there? I toy with cheaper areas. Usually that means North Carolina.

Paid $2.329 at Sams' Club in Phoenix on Friday July 17th. Lowest I have paid since May 27th.
  • dtownfbdtownfb Member Posts: 2,918
In the York area, I spotted $2.27 at Sam's club over the weekend. $2.29 seems to be the norm.

our lowest 87 no-lead price is currently $2.47/gal. We've been in that general ballpark for literally months upon months here in the high desert of southern Arizona.

Our real estate taxes are dirt cheap compared to New Jersey. My county of Albemarle charges 74.2 cents per $100 of assessed value annually. Each county or independent city sets its own rates. There are no separate school taxes or the like. Virginia, unlike PA or NJ, isn't divided up into tiny fiefdoms.

In normal times, assessed value is usually somewhat lower than market price.

Back to gas, it looks like $2.29 for RUG is the new norm around here, except for the two lower prices I cited in my previous post. According to Gas Buddy, NC always has higher prices than VA. However, SC seems to have bargain gas.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
I topped off today at Costco and the price was $2.53. Last Thursday it was $2.47. Still the cheapest gas around here.

I can report that they are going up in Phoenix.

4-5 cents on average in the last week or so.

I paid $2.419 last week, and same place was $2.459 this morning.
  • 210delray210delray Member Posts: 4,721
There's been an uptick, but not too bad, yet. Paid $2.39 for RUG today, and that is the going price at a lot of places.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Prices seem to be up 5-10 cents in metro Seattle too...I wonder if it is an actual increase or just because of the tanking greenback.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
Sorry for the delay in reporting - been on the road quite a bit the last 3 weeks.

Was in Marion, OH for work three weeks ago, prices along the way were in the $2.35 RUG (Ft. Wayne, IN.) ~ $2.48 RUG (Toll Road) range depending on where we filled-up. Had an '09 RAV4 - not a bad rental, very good mileage, averaged +30 on the highway doing 80mph, better at a lower speed. In-city driving was pretty good as well, upper 20s.

Last week was in AL and GA, with prices being $2.30 RUG on average in AL and $2.38 RUG in GA. Noticed down there that the spread between grades was 15 - 20 cents. Highest I saw was $2.44 in downtown Atlanta.

Back home now and I see prices have spiked to $2.75 RUG on average. I was able to fill up for $2.66 but before I left to go south prices were in the $2.55 range.

    Up next, Texas and Mexico.

What the cuff is going on? :confuse:

$ 2.61 for Premium (93 octane) at a Sam's in Lafayette, LA on Tuesday 8-4-09.

Sam's usually runs as much as 11 cents less per gallon than the local majors such as Exxon.

The price of oil is up to $72 a barrel. Probably a hedge against the sinking dollar. The hummingbirds are telling me it is going to be an early winter. They are stoking up a month early this year. Heating oil took a big jump today. The oil companies could be raising the prices to compensate for all the Clunkers that are no longer with US.

Gas at Costco yesterday was $2.76.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
The dollar had another bad day - many commodities seem to be up. I think that's where most of these movements are from. Of course, the oil companies can do as they please.

I've heard we are in an El Nino this year - I think that gives you guys down there more severe winters, yeah.

I passed a Chevron going to an appointment this morning in a business park area. Regular was $2.59, diesel $2.69.

An hour later I drove up to the pump there to fill up the Outback and get some lawnmower gas, and sat there a moment wondering if I was having another senior moment. Regular was now $2.69.

So I pulled out and went to the Shell two blocks away where regular was $2.59.

Maybe I dodged a bullet and was able to beat the price increase by a few minutes. Saved a little over a buck. :shades:

Back in the immediate Katrina aftermath when we started having gas lines I pulled into a local Texaco. While I was in the line they go up the pole and raise the price by .10 a gallon! Amazingly they already changed the price on the pump.....

That was my first foray into $3 gas....

was for $2.66 yesterday. Came across this station last week when I was on a Lowes run and the price was 10 cents lower than everyone else. It's one town over but only 5 minutes away so not too much out of my regular commute. I filled the Olds up last week for the same.

My normal fill-up stations were all running $2.72 for 87 octane yesterday morning but in the afternoon all were in the $2.76 ~ $2.80 range. The Mobil by me is running 93 octane for $3.08.

The nearest station with E85 is selling it for $2.66, with 87 octane for $2.76.

Diesel's been averaging $2.66 across the stations.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
And the price of a barrel of oil supposedly fell.

    $2.69 RUG
    $2.81 mid-grade
$2.91 premium (just a short hop and a hurricane to $3)

Diesel is running $2.79 at the majors here; likely a good bit cheaper out at the Flying J on the interstate.

Price at Sam's in Lafayette, LA on Friday 8-21-09:

    93 Octane $ 2.599
    87 Octane $ 2.359

petrol prices were running in the $2.45 range for 87 octane last week. Didn't pay attention to the prices across the border in Matamoros, MX. Was in an Aveo this time - had a nice radio / center stack and shifter handle.

Back home prices are from as low as $2.64 to as high as $2.72, higher in Cook County, especially near O'Hare - saw a few $2.81s on Friday. Saturday by Comiskey (Sox Park) prices were in the $2.75 range.

Got fuel for the Olds yesterday for $2.63 a couple towns over whereas everyone else was running in the $2.69 ~ $2.72 range.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
was for $2.58, same place I've been filling up the past few times.

My usual Jewel is running the highest at $2.74 (matching a Speedway on my work route) while the Mobil & Shell by home is running $2.70.

By work the Mobil is running $2.62, Shell & BP are at $2.64 - 87 octane.

Gas is dropping a bit in time for the Labor Day weekend which makes no sense. Dropped to $2.49 in the past couple of days, cheaper if you buy from Sam's Club.

Down to $2.63 today in State College
