Hey Cspounser....from what I understand, the adrenaline will have the same suspension as in the current Ranger. And that, my friend, makes it pretty much incompetent offroad. You cant just slap more HP and a new name on a vehicle and call it offroad competent.

No. If FORD was listening, they would have completely redesigned the vehicle from the ground up with offroading in mind, and the options that cater to offroading, like Toyota did. Hence the marvelous Suspension on the stock Taco. Now add a GREAT designer like TRD, and you have a vehicle that meshes together perfectly for it's purposes.

Ford didn't listen. They didn't build ANYTHING like the Tacoma TRD. YOu can't slap more HP and a fancy name on a car suspension Ranger and expect it to compete with a Tacoma TRD. How Nieve~!

Interesting links that you posted, but I must take note that one of the links for 814,000 Toyotas recalled was primarily in Japan and abroad. On the regional ones I saw more Fords. Hmmm . . . I wonder why? What is that link with the Toyota 3.0 engine? Old news as you like to put it. Yawn . . .

Rangers are 5 star rated for 30 mph crashes, not 74 mph crashes.

Given one star rating, what would the damage have been?

Nice, but see...they don't even come close to the Ranger, NOT even close. By the way, the Alldata.com gets their data from NHSTA, but the NHSTA filters out the official TSB's from the non-official.

Lets not forget that those TSB's are for 87-99 Tacomas. Nice once. YOu screwed up again. Shall I post every single Ranger TSB since 87? I can tell you one thing, it would take DOZENS of these chat rooms, as opposed to the few lines from the Toyota. Nice try, but once again you come up short, just like the ranger against the tcoma i nthe comparison reviews.

oh yeah and i really like the Tsb on how much air to put in my tires.. and the one on a new repair book for the climate controls... and the Recall on the electric ranger.. when is toyota going to have an electric vehicle or even a LEV (low emision vehicle). Ford has two rangers that meet those qualifications.

It was a full size doe.. um dont know how much it weighed tho... hit it going about 35 mph by the time i had slowed down. I hit it right in the middle of the grill. So it busted up the grill, knocked my bugflector loose and poped out the right front turn signal. Repair consisted of poping back in the turn signal (free). Retaping on bugflector(free). and installing new grill ($150 from the dealer, i installed in 2 minutes)
now it is all good as new.. no sheet metal was bent at all.

as far as the computer problem.. Wlcome to the world of windows '98. Id like to find a person who didnt get those errors. Is it the same Dll each time (dll's can be shared between programs) if so it could be a dll that need to be updated. Dell is notorious for shipping high end machines b4 all the Proprietary componets inside are compatible with all the software they bundle.

i hate to see stuff like that.. that is shotty workmanship. but it makes you wonder why this guy bought this thing.. when i took delivery of my truck i went over it with a fine tooth comb.. that is just as much of buying a truck as not paying whats on the sticker.
as you can see tho the Guy is still a proud ford owner.

operation, shutting down" message is one of the worst, almost as bad as the "blue screen of death", even my IS guys wont touch it.I usually just take out the components and put them back in one by one till I find out which one is causing it.

Good thing, Dell is sending you a new computer on Tuesday, they're usually set up pretty good.

A co-worker and I purchased new vehicles within days of each other in June of '99. I own a Mazda B3000, my co-worker purchased a Tacoma. Take a guess on which truck needs to be taken into the dealer service department first. WRONG!!! IT IS NOT THE MAZDA!!! For some reason, the Tacoma Service Engine Light is on solid. Although I'm sure the problem is minor, the fact remains that owner has to take the time out of his busy day to drop the truck off to have the problem looked at. I will probably meet him at the dealer to take him into work, or drive him there to pick up his truck at the end of the day. Perhaps both. I find the whole thing rather ironic. Oh yea, I forgot to mention that my truck already has 4,000 more miles on it than his does. Go figure...

Look closely and you'll see the problems. "Also, "keep in mind it's a brand new truck
and Ford says "it's all within their tolerances!" :

1) Notice how the frame around the window disappears towards the hood of the truck.
The window frame and roof were "bent to fit" from the factory."

Please be patient with me - I'm new at this but you guys seem to have a wealth of practical knowledge and experience - I hope you can help. I presently drive an 88 toyota corolla SR5 coupe that I bought six years ago for about $5k with 56k miles - I love it! I've kept it well maitenced and now have 235k on it (I did alot of intrastate commuting)- and it has continued to start every morning (even during cold New England winters) however, because I drove it during a harsh winter in the backwoods of New Hampshire - I beat up the front end suspension with the frost heeve ridden roads - now driving it on the highway is like racing over train tracks - I now live back in "civilazation" and mainly drive highway. However, to fix the suspension (plus some other minor things for it to pass inspection this month)I'm looking at about a $1000+ bill. With the high millage and such, the car is probably worth much less. I have been looking at other vehicles - yes SUV's (I'm sorry - I'm a 30 yr old married professional living in suburbia ready to reproduce)I would like something "nice" with reasonable MPG, room in the back (for cargo and my smelly dog) I'm not a big off-roader but would like to have a 4x4 for beech access. I don't like the stiff feel of a truck and I could probably pick up a 3 or 4 yr old Jeep Cherokee pretty cheap but I keep hearing nighmare stories about their reliability and extensive repair cost (I don't want to buy anything new at this point I had set my budget at around $15k). The new mini-Suvs - Rav, Forester, Vitara, etc don't seem to have enough "umph" or durability) So after unsucessfully "bargin hunting" - I upped the price limit to under $20K (but still want a pre-owned "deal") and went in search of resolve. Having had such good luck with my "Toy" - I visited my local dealer in search of quality. But,feeling like Goldilocks, the Landcruier was "too big", and the Rav was "too small" and the 4-Runner was just "not right". So I test drove a pre-owned 97 Toyota Tacoma lx 4x4 extra-cab with 27K on it for $16K (without many options). I liked the way it handled on the road (not too stiff) and I could actually step into it without a ladder (this is important to us skirt and high heel wearing women)yet it seemed rugged enough to take a "beating". However I was very dissapointed with the "back seat" space of this "extra cab" (I think the glove compartment was bigger). So with this delema keeping me from getting out my checkbook, I was shown a picture of Toyota's future addition to the Quad Cab craze (apparently they took a Tacoma - made a real back seat form two-feet of bed space - added doors - and left the last 50inches of the bed remaining (sound familiar) - but this is not expected to come out for another year. I have test driven other Quad Cabs (Dodge, Nissan) but they were like driving a bus - (the Toyota salesperson claims that their new Quad Cab is "just like the Tacoma"). Now my question: (A)Do I spend a grand - fix my coupe for now - hope that it lasts another year - and wait for something beter to come along (B) bite the bullet and get the 97 Tacoma now but then have to take on car payments, higher insurance, taxes, and not to mention purchasing a cap (as nothing will fit in the cab) only to then probably trade it in for something similar that I can put a baby seat in (I hope!)next year (losing money in the pocess) Or (C) Keep bargin hunting for another make/model that satisfies my wish list (If anyone has a recommendation - I'm all ears) Sorry for the long narrative. In short - I'm big on capability and value - but whimpy on stiff handling and lack of space. I leave myself in your capable hands. Thanks

Check out the NHSTA site for reilability data and 4wheeler.com and the 98 ranger verse Tacoma comparions for all your needs.
Needless to say, when the Ranger and tacoma went head to head, the Tacoma won every single performance category, and the Tacoma was a unanimous decision.

Yeah the 2 year old article that pits a 26K TRD against a 17K low model Ranger, real fair.
Also check www.carpoint.msn.com, www.crashtest.com. The Tacoma is a driving coffin, rated LAST in crash tests.
When you read the NHSTA site, spooog wants you to see the TOTAL numbers, not each individual entry or duplicate entry, or entry for stickers, glazing ect..

As I and others have told you spoog,most of the postings on NHST are insignificant and or non problems but clarifications or repair practices. Well I will go to the NHSTA site and download the issues on Tacoma and will START with the one where the Transfer Case locked up for no reason and resulted in INJURY. Remember those posts a while back, comparing the INJURY rate of incidents Ranger Vs Tacoma. And do you recall that the INJURY rate for Tacoma was IN EXCESS of the Ranger's?

Mission accomplished, got spoog to read Consumer Reports. However, he seemed to miss the part about Ford Ranger being it's "BEST BUY" how many years spoog?
They, Consumer Reports also publish a magazine devoted to Trucks and SUV's and GUESS which truck it lists "Best In Class, Compact Pickup"

By the way, where are the Toyota engines in the Daytona 500 Today? Seems to me that the following are in the front runners today:
Chevy
Ford
Dodge

Can they not build a V engine that can sustain 180-190mph, 6000-7000 rpm for sustained periods?

For the record since the Ford Ranger was introduced in Australia recently it has been the #1 selling truck, outselling any Japanese truck isn't there a lot of offroading in Australia.

Lets see, 11200 needed to have a sticker saying that you cannot inflate a 16 inch tire on a 15 inch rim and 322 electric vehicles had a transmission parking detent problem.

GIVE ME SOME SOLID DATA THAT MY 1999 RANGER HAS MORE PROBLEMS THAN YOURS.

YOURS HAS defective heads and or head gaskets that lunch engines.

YOURS HAS defetive frames that break because they are not strong enough.

YOURS HAS transfer cases that are reported to lock up creating accidents.

YOURS HAS a cargo box that is reported by a national magazine toe "BEND" when stuff is tied into it.

Now, with the exception of two switches that Ford replaced on my truck, I have had
NO PROBLEMS!
I do not leak fluids, have not blown a head gasket have not cracked frames but I
HAVE BEEN
all over 10,000 ft moutian off-road passes with JEEPS, F150's, Suburbans, Scouts, S-10's and NOT ONE Toyota in sight(except the Land Cruiser bogged down to its frame in mud). And a lot of that travel was with my BAD tires.

Again spoog, come up with some SOLID data that your Tacoma is superior to my 99 Ranger XLT because as of yet you have not presented it.
