Damn! This has been a long week!
Well, I've got some work to do this weekend too...
IF YOU GET EXTENDED CAB, CD, SLIDING REAR WINDOW, OFF-ROAD (THATS ORIGINAL), LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL, FULL SKID PLATES, THE BIGGEST ENGINE AVAILABLE, KEYLESS ENTRY, ALARM, BUCKET SEATS, REAR DOORS AND SEATS, FULL SIZE SPARE TIRE AND WHEEL, HEAVY DUTY GAS MONOTUBE SHOCKS, 31X10.5 TIRES, POLISHED ALUMINUM WHEELS, AIR, AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU CAN THINK OF. IN THE END I WILL PAY ABOUT 21.5K FOR MY ZR2. WHEN I WAS IN THE FORD SIGHT WITH THE SAME OPTIONS AS MY TRUCK IT CAME OUT TO JUST OVER 26K. WHOEVER SAID THAT THEY GOT ONE FOR 18.5K IS NOT VERY SMART. "WELL I DIDNT GET THE EXTENDED CAB" WELL THATS ANOTHER 3K RIGHT THERE. AND IM BETTING ITS NOT THAT LOADED. AND ABOUT THE TUNDRA. IM PRETTY SURE THEY ARE RACING WHEN THEY SQUEAL THEIR TIRES RIGHT AFTER REVVING UP THE ENGINE. I KNOW WHEN SOMEONE IS RACING, IM A TEENAGER. I CAN RUN TO 50MPH IN SECOND GEAR WITH ABOUT 500RPM'S LEFT THEN LAY ANOTHER PATCH WHEN I SHIFT TO THIRD. NO ENHANCEMENTS OR ANYTHING. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW MUCH MONTHLY PAYMENTS ARE FOR YOU SO CALLED RANGER OWNERS AND AND APR WOULD BE NICE TO COMPAIR. AND I STILL DONT HEAR ANYBODY SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT ORIGINALITY. I HEAR ALL THIS STUFF THAT THE S-10 IS OUTDATED. BUT HOW CAN SOMEONE SAY THAT WHEN THE ZR2 LOOKS BETTER BY FAR THAN ANY COMPACT ON THE MARKET. AND YES THE 4.3 DOES COME WITH A 5-SPD FOR WHOEVER SAID THAT IT DIDNT. WHAT DOES THE RANGER RUN, LIKE 160HP. THATS ABOUT 30 SHORT, IM SORRY. AND IVE JUST READ IN MY NEW CAR AND DRIVER THAT THE NEW INLINE SIX THAT WILL BE OUT FOR THE '02 MODEL WILL PRODUCE AROUND 250HP COMPAIRED TO THE 200 HORSEPOWER OF THE 4.0 THAT WILL GO IN THE RANGER. IM A KID WHO DRIVES A TRUCK HOW ITS SUPPOSED TO BE DRIVEN. ALL OVER THE PLACE. I TOW I HAUL. I HIT THE OLD TANK TRAILS IN TOWN AND GO FOUR WHEELING. AND I SAID FRAUD BECAUSE I KNOW TOW OTHER PEOPLE WITH ZR2'S AND THE HAVENT HAD ONE PROBLEM. EVERYONE OUT THERE NEEDS TO OPEN THEIR MINDS. I WAS A FORD GUY UNTIL I TEST DROVE THE ZR2 AND ILL TELL YOU WHAT, THERE IS NOTHING BETTER. EVEN IF I HAD ENOUGH MONEY FOR A FULL SIZE, I WOULDNT HAVE BOUGHT ONE BECAUSE EVERYONE AND THERE DOG HAS ONE. THANKS FOR READING THIS AND ANY OF YOUR MINDLESS COMMENTS ARE APPRECIATED. THANKS.

Ok now. Listen very closely. I'm sure it's hard without your ritalin. I paid 18.5K for my Ranger. Aside from being an ext-cab and having the LSD, it has EVERY other option available. No, an ext-cab is not another 3,000, genius. It's about $1,000. The Limited-Slip-Dif would add another $300.
I whole-heartedly endorse what Cthompson has to say. I would also like to add that NO ONE pays MSRP for Rangers or B-Series trucks. Why do you think Ford and Mazda sell nearly 400,000 of these vehicles per year? Because they are overpriced you say? WRONG!!! Because they are well-built and a good value. Your ZR2 is a nice looking truck, no doubt about it. But I'm the one laughing at you! Perhaps you will eventually learn the meaning of value.
Ryan, on a related note, I would like to encourage you to cease your drag-racing forays. Not only is it dangerous, but in the grand scheme of things, it really is pretty stupid as well. I would hate to find out that you or someone else has been injured during such an event. Also, you run the risk of leave pieces of your 4.3L lying all over the streets of Missoula. The 4.3L is a good engine. However, it was not built for racing. Who wants to race trucks anyway? Please give it some thought...
Speaking of racing trucks, I took a Lightning out for a test drive last night. Wow! That S/C Triton has got some SERIOUS kick to it.
Ryan TURN OFF THE CAPS.
It's about time that both Ford and Chevy are updating the engines in their compact trucks. Hasn't it been since about the early '90s that we've seen any significant powerplant changes for either the S10 or Ranger.
A turbo 5 does sound like a lot of fun without the big gas bill, especially with gas prices around here exceeding $2 for the cheap stuff.
I have a 98 s-10 SS 4.3 with posi rear end. I race this truck all the time. On the track, and at the light. That's what racing is about. There is a difference between racing and being an idoit doing 110 m.p.h. the road. Racing is part of the automobile heritage, whether its light to light, or at the track.
Regarding the lighting, I was disapointed when I drove in my buddies. I didn't think it was all it is cracked up to be. And whoever said a Camaro SS better make sure to hit every gear when racing better go drive a Camaro Z28 first and then think how much faster a SS is. Read the brocure that comes with the lighting. Ford claims 6.2 to 60 and he paid 32,500. A Camaro SS is 5.2.
It has 5,000 miles on it, he has had it for about 4 months and has had it in the shop for so many problems.
1. Rearend needed replaced, it wouldn't hold a seal after 3,000 miles.
2. Had to take it in twice for an oil leak.
3. Supercharger whine was so loud that the radio had to be turned up almost all the way to hear the radio. Ford said the supercharger needed replaced.
Forget all that first year hassle.
I will get my supercharger this Wed.(It got put on backorder, superjim knows what I'm talking about.) and I will spank that lightnings [non-permissible content removed]. You can believe that.
If you are sure you are going to sell it, I want to ask you a couple of questions: Do you want another truck? If so, does it have to be 4WD? How often did you use the 4WD in your ZR2? The reason I ask about 4WD is that you can save yourself some money by not getting it. I know you like the stance of a 4WD vehicle, but do you really need that capability? Nissan, Toyota, Ford, and Mazda all make 2WD trucks with the off-road suspensions. That could be a possibility. It just depends on what you want. Let us know some more of your thoughts on what you would like to be driving...
If you should ever become interested in a Ranger, I'd suggest the new for '00 Trailhead package. It looks great and is an incredibly inexpensive truck. The Vulcan 3L mates very well with a 5-speed. Don't get one with an auto. If you'd want a 4L, wait 'till '01 for the SOHC 4L.
Good luck and happy shopping.
I know that many of these trucks suffered serious abuse in the hands of their owners. This might be some of the factor in short engine life. But, so are the stresses of strapping a turbo on a low-compression, pushrod motor.
Don't get me wrong here. I would have given my left arm for one of them when I came out. But, I know first-hand that GM has had some wonderfully performing but extremely short-life engines. I had a H.O. Quad4 in a mint Olds Cutlass Supreme Int'l. No abuse or anything. It just happened to blow the head gasket and crack the head at 75K.
That would be a very interesting race. Probably too close to call.
One of the car rags just had a comparo between a Lightning and a C5 Vette with an auto tranny. The Vette barely eeked out a win. I believe it was only a coupla of tenths in the quarter. I can't remember what 0-60 was, tho.
Just remember the Lightning costs about $10,000 less, can haul 800lbs, and can tow 5,000lbs.
But, the Vette will humiliate a Lightning in the twisties.
I've had mine almost a year, its been perfect, but the factory tires had to go, I replaced em at 5,000 miles.
Thanks cthompson.
.9% for 48 months
1.9% for 60 months
It could really save you a bundle in interest. Maybe the rates would apply to Saturn, as they're a GM division.
Have you ever thought of leasing? Ford just had $199/mo lease on 4x4 3L XLT Rangers. As the model year is nearing an end, there will be tons of buyer incentives out there.
If you're going for a car, there are tons in your price range that would be fun. Check out the Golf/Jetta 1.8T, Sentra SE, Civic Si, Focus ZX3/ZTS, Impreza 2.5RS, PT Cruiser, Alero, Grand AM, and a few others. Sure sounds like a fun Saturday of test driving.
practice somewhere first so you get used to how your tires do

put some weight in the bed of your truck, I always keep 2 50# cement bags wrapped in plastic sheeting in the corners of the bed of both my trucks, its just 100lbs but it makes a BIG difference
3
get used to how the locking diff behaves, sometimes some brake pedal pressure helps the LD kick in
4
have fun
YOu can wax those wheels and they come clean with just a hose off by the way....
