    No sooner do I post that I haven't noticed a new Prius than I got a good look at one this AM. From a distance it looks like a Civic but closer it resembles the Gen II Prius or a latter day Citroen DS (not a bad thing.)

    I also saw a new Challenger from behind, probably the angle from which it most resembles the '69-'70. Not bad but too damn big for a Pony car.

    This weekend I have seen 2 new Camaros, a new Fusion (delivering pizzas no less), several new Prius, a couple new Insights, and a trophy wife in a new Quattroporte who apparently stalled it when pulling out of a driveway.

    I saw a Legacy 2.5i, with paddle shifters and that new CVT. 31 mpg highway, yowsah. Not bad. Our Forester gets 5 fewer mpg with the same engine.

    Also liked the interior, though I like the exterior more than you did. Reminds me of the G37, in a good way.

    I don't like the Outback's styling as much as the Legacy sedan. It's more 5 door hatchback now, less wagon, and I think it would be more practical if the rear glass was more vertical.

    A loaded up Outback 3.6R Limited was $34k, which is entirely too close to the price of the Genesis 3.8 sedan with tech package ($36k) that was sitting right next to it (the dealer sells Subarus and Hyundais in the same bldg).

    Sure, it's a Hyundai, but I'm impressed every time I sit in one, and that was probably the 4th time. My wife sat in it and said "Wow AJ", and couldn't hardly believe it was a Hyundai.

    So color me impressed with the low $20s Legacy, but at $34 grand I'd like to see thicker carpets, fabric wrapped A-pillars, and more padding in the dash plastics (the Hyundai had all that plus real leather on the dash).

    Basically you get a lot more value at the starting prices, IMHO.

    Insight. My mom got one as a loaner while her Civic was being repaired after her accident. I drove it around the block, pretty funky car. Gets a lot of looks too according to mom. She likes it so much that she doesn't want to give it back.

    Also saw a new TL in black. Still an odd looking to me but I warmed up to it a bit.

    Saw a couple of new Outbacks, a BMW X6, couple of new Mazda6's and Ford Fusions and couple of those hideous Nissan Cubes.

    Also, 3 of my neighbors around me brought home new Tundras in the past month. :surprise:

    I saw a red Soul, too, on the wayto work. Sharp looking little car. Toyota needs to hire that designer for the next xB. What a disappointment that was! I didn't mind the size, etc, but the looks are a major turn-off, compared to both the original xB and the Soul.

    Seriously. I know glass is heavy but this is getting ridiculous.

    I also hate the gun slit windows with virtually no view out. I can't wait until that trend dies, just like tail fins.

    I'm in agreement with the folks that like teh Kia Soul better than the other cube cars out there. They got the look right.

    Yep, inside, too. The center console looks like the back of a snow board. Very neat, and the right look for the target demographic.

    Well, the inside on the Soul we looked at was so disappointing we didn't bother to try to find anyone to let us test drive it. Didn't think we could live with the materials after comparing with similarly priced cars (xD, Fit, etc.). I've only seen the outside of a Cube but I hope their plastic is a bit "softer" or better "textured" inside.

    And I'm a snowboarder. :shades:

    I was actually more dissapointed with the interior of the Cube than the Soul.

    The Cube is totally boring and cheap looking inside imo. Much worse than the Soul which I acutally liked, so if you might be in for a dissapointment.

    I may have to take another look at a Soul but so far the xD is still looking better inside. The Cube was fun to look at outside but we're more interested in a hatch than another box.

    Someone please holler when they spot a 2010 xD in the wild. Or even on a transport truck. :)

    I saw a new Impreza wagon/hatch whatever today, as a co-worker bought one. Blue, moderately equipped, nice enough little car.

    Not brand new, but I also saw a fairly recent (2002+) 7er that was smoking like a chimney - kind of a mix of black and blue smoke, an unpleasant grey. I bet that's going to be expensive.

    They're a good value for the price. You can get an Outback Sport, for instance, for mid/high teens money, and it's got heated seats and a roof rack for your bikes or kayak.

    A loaded Fit, Cube, or Soul cost more and all are far less substantial.

    The one I saw stickered at just over 20...but it is a "premium" model with deluxe wheels, roof, and a few accessories. Still not too bad, I sat in it and it seemed put together very well, although the plastics were a little hard.

    $19,428 for the only one currently in stock at Fitzmall. That's not sticker, though, it's the no-haggle price. I've seen Cubes for more than that.

    Thing is, Cube is trendy and cool, but let's face it, it's based on the $9995 Versa platform. Paying more than double for the trendy look is a bit much IMHO.

    I'd much rather have the Subaru over a Cube. The 5 door isn't too hard on the eyes, it has interesting engineering, and should hold its value, at least in my area.

    Trendy gets old fast. PT Cruiser and xB come to mind.

    I think it's OK to buy those as long as you don't pay too much.

    Remember when the PT Cruiser came out, some dork paid $25k for one on E-bay?

    What is that car worth now? What's the scrap value for that much metal? :D

    I remember many dealers were asking (and getting) 25K+++ for loaded PTs back during the hype days in 2000. Canadian dealers were selling their allotments to the US, as the demand was so huge and the greenback was stronger then. Insane, now that car has to be worth less than half what a similar priced car from the same year is worth today.

    Seems like it always come back to the mpg hit. The OB Sport gets 22 combined, 27 highway. The Cube and Fit CVTs get more than 27 combined.

    I just drove around in a new PT Cruiser today. Totally wrong for my body type but someone shorter and 50 lbs lighter would be good in it.

    Still get around 30 mpg on the highway with a stick and it holds a fair amount.

    Drives kind of piggish though. Imagine how could it would have been if they had bothered to update it.

    Well, 2.5l plus AWD.

    Subaru needs to put the Legacy's CVT in there, that gets 31 mpg highway. It would be competitive even with AWD.

    I also think Subaru should offer a 2.0l entry-level Impreza, but I won't hold my breath.

    That's good to hear - I didn't think any Subies were rated for over 30 highway. (Not counting the Justy of course.)

    I've hit 30 a few times on the highway on my '97 Outback but it was mostly the high 20's on my road trip a few weeks ago over to the coast. I did hit a couple of roads that I didn't see any Prius's on too though.

    We can squeeze out 30mpg out of our Forester, but you gotta keep speeds down.

    Think about it, though - their entry level engine is a 2.5l. That's big!

    My mother had one of those for a rental after her Corolla got smashed - she is 5'6"...and hated it. But, it was mainly for ergonomics (window switches especially) and how it didn't seem very well assembled.

    Oh yeah window switches are in a stupid place on the dash.

    I usually like sitting well off the floor as that is how rover seats are but in the PT cruiser it just felt weird. My arms are short too so it is a long reach down to the shifter.

    The second day she had it, she pulled up to a drive-up mailbox, and couldn't find the switches. She had to get the manual out to find them. Drove her nuts.

    Now her grandma-white Camry suits her perfectly.

    I just saw a Genesis coupe yesterday with the new tag in the window, unfortunately he had just rear ended and old Blazer. He must of either been going to fast or checking out all the new gadget on his new car.

    He did not hit hard enough to total it, but hard enough that I would not want it back.

    Pretty hot car right now.... Not sure why VW had to make the rear-end so frumpy... especially since they did such a nice job with the Passat wagon..

    Saw a gun metal gray Lotus Elise yesterday in Burleson, Tx. I've never seen one up close before. Pretty cool little ride. Looked like it could drive right under a SUV or a pickup and not scrape the roof!
