Ya, for the longest time I thought Astons had the best wail but the Maserati coupe I heard at full bore in downtown Boston was heavenly. :)

A friend of mine bought one. Interesting looking vehicle, like a super-sized mini Cooper. It's big but it seems so low to the ground.

He's a Ford guy. Had 2 Freestars. Traded one for an Explorer, now he's got a Flex as well.

I like it, kind unique looking in a sea of look-alike crossovers.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
We have a used Flex on our lot. It's fairly roomy inside but I'm not into its styling.

For these type of crossovers I still prefer the Pacifica which I thought was ahead of its time.

We really liked our Pac from a fit/finish and function aspect. The drivetrain is what really help it back, though, IMHO. The 3.5 was adequate, but the antiquated 4-speed auto was horrendous. It would have been worlds better if they mated it to the Benz 5-speed. It would have helped greatly with mileage, too, which was pretty darned bad (18 mpg mixed for us compared to 21 in each our Pilot and XC90).

The Flex has gotten lots of good press, including Inside Line naming it one of their top 5 favorite long term vehicles. That, from a bunch of performance car nuts!
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
You don't have to convince me that a big, comfortable car is great for trips. I love my Sienna for what it is.

Brand new Sonata in Black. Looks good in that color. :shades:
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
I tried out sitting in the new Sonata at the recent Dallas auto show. Disappointment, the 4dr coupe styling includes a very low roof opening, almost at my (unusually high) eye-level. Nope! I did like the Mustang, very good view all around, I may have to test one with the new v6. Major disappointment: No BMW...No Infiniti... :confuse: I was wanting to see that GT in the metal, along with (maybe) the new M37 and (not likely) 535i. Wonder why they dropped it?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Maybe not brand new, but a Bentley Continental convertible has shown up in the parking garage at work...maybe that bodes well for this year's raises :shades:
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
Nice. Maybe they froze your raises to fund the big boss's raise, hence the Conti cabrio. :P

    I wouldn't get my hopes up! :D
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
They did that last year...that's probably why the Bentley is here :shades:

Although maybe having the courage to park such an ostentatious thing among more pedestrian vehicles might mean everyone else might not feel bad soon...trying to remain positive...

.....a half block north of our house, a brand-new Mercedes E350 4Matic (IL vanity plate "PRADA"), I swear to God. Anywho, a car of this caliber is HIGHLY unusual in our neighborhood. Wasn't there long, shocking. Maybe a real estate agent?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Realtor or a vendor of knock-off designer goods, maybe.

Anyone with a plate like that should be kicked in the head a few times until their brain starts functioning again.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I know these aren't all the new any more, but I think I've seen a dozen of these in the past day or two. Swarms of 'em.

Also saw a new Insight on the highway, a rare sighting.

    Accord Crosstour....ghastly thing

    First Boise sighting.
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
BMW's galore... Lotsa Mercedes GLK's, Audi Q5's and BMW X3's. The whole area in general was very import dominated.

Oddest sighting was a brand spaking new Maserati Coupe' parked outside the Billygoat Tavern tunnel which tells me even the rich guys enjoy a good greasy triple cheeseburger... :P

Wonder if the river is still green since I left :shades:

See them everywhere by me. The company that manages the office park where I work has a bunch running around as the maitenance fleet. Much more efficient than a bunch of Econolines.

That's not a typo, I work near Embassy Row so I'm sure it was a european import (diplomatic tags).

I wonder if instead of trying to sell a FWD 0-series in the USA, wouldn't BMW be better off selling the 118i instead?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
A young woman who lives in my building just bought a Tiguan. I saw her park it....or try to park it...comical...she's not fit to park a bicycle.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Also, a friend of mine's dad totalled his car and just replaced it with a shiny new Legacy sedan. He got a pearl white color that is arguably the best looking color on that car.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
Speaking of rich people enjoying inexpensive stuff, I saw a new Jag XF at a local Walmart. A well dressed family with kids doing lots of shopping. Heck I'd do the same even if I had lots of dough. Isn't that how people get rich, by being frugal?

    In a word, Yes.

It hit 68 today and we went down to a pizza joint around 6 pm. It's on a busy corner and there was lots of commuter traffic. Passed a Plymouth Prowler on the way there.

Lots of convertibles out, and just a lot of SUVs, sedans and pickups. Most were just ordinary cars and they really weren't all that attractive just cruising down the road.

Anyway, it's not strictly new, but it's a rare bird around here - spotted a Ferrari.

Beats me which one though - At first I thought it was an F430 because there was a hump near the rear. But I didn't notice any streamlined bodywork behind the seats. The badge was on the rear quarter panel instead of on the front fender, if that means anything.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
The Ferrari crest was on the rear panel?

Hmmm...that doesn't ring a bell to me. Maybe one of the late 550 Spiders?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    edited March 2010
Yeah, behind the driver a ways, and before the rear wheel. It was a convertible if that helps.

It almost looked like some kind of air intake on the rear "trunk" lid - the hump wasn't all the way at the rear end. Maybe the guy had stuck a little luggage rack on there.

I don't think it was a fire engine red Audi TT with some Ferrari badging. :-)
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
    Doesn't sound like a 550 then...did it have a spoiler? And not a 360/430...I'm stumped.

    No spoiler.

I should have posted this over Mystery car pix.... - the invisible one.

got next to an Orange Challenger R/T today coming into Philly. Just a tad flashy, but looked pretty sharp in that color. Had a real nice burble, especially when the old dude driving it compression braked (it was a manual trans).

COuld be fun, but I couldn't see driving it every day or commuting into the city with it (as this guy appeared to be doing).

Those Challengers, in orange especially, look so much like the originals but updated, that it gives my mental state a boost every time I see one; it brings back memorys of the days of the originals.

    It just looks _great_.

The Camaro is a sharpened up version of some of the original designs. The Mustang is an enlarged version and some years recently have been better than others in the style

A young woman who lives in my building drives a white Challenger R/T, it looks pretty loaded. It also has a decal stripe low on the door that says "Phantom"...I don't know what that's about. Sadly, the car is white, and I think it's only been washed once since she got it back around Christmas. She's also not very adept at parking the thing, but admittedly it is wide and blind-spotty.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
You should keep a camera on you for those odd Boise sightings ;)

I still can't think what the car might be.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
I know, it lives in the drawer around here where it just gathers dust....

Could be some kit car job with excess Ferrari badging.

"Could be some kit car job with excess Ferrari badging. "

That's what I'm thinking, too. I remember some picture of a red fake with a big Ferrari emblem towards the rear, can't remember where I saw it, though... :confuse:

...bright red Porsche 911 cabrio. Somebody's gettin' paid!
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
I think someone else mentioned the CrossTour recently. I saw my first in the wild today. A black one merging on the highway. I was quite surprised that I found it better looking in person than the pics. By the pics, I thought it extremely fugly. In person, not all that bad. At least in black.

Maybe black helps. The ones I've seen were white, and reminded me of a woman (or man, for that matter) wearing spandex who...shouldn't be wearing spandex :surprise:

    Bulges in the wrong places...

I think Rover got the '4-door hatchback' thing right:
    image

Unlike Porsche, Honda, Acura, and BMW...
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
.....I remember that Rover playing a prominent role in Human League's "Don't You Want Me" video, circa 1982. Nice looking car, large yet with reasonable proportions.

I think the Merkur Scorpio was a nice looking 5-door...

They used to do fake Ferrari kits for the Fiero GT.. I was actually scratching my head once, trying to figure out which Ferrari it was... I guess it helped that it was on a mid-engine layout...

The only live Crosstour was in the showroom when I had my Ody in for service. It was white. It was way too big for that design. Spandex....

I saw my first new style (F10) 5er on the road today (highest volume dealer in the region is in my area, newer models hit here early)...looks very much like a 7er

mmm, no, more like a 360 than that. No noticeable side air scoops. And it looked more expensive than a kit car, but you're talking to a guy that can barely tell the difference between an Odyssey and a Sienna.

Thanks for looking - grab your camera and come on over. I'll put you up in the spare bedroom and you can cruise the streets all day long in my Subie until you spot it. :)

Haha, the speedo only goes up to 140 KM/H

    That's what....87 mph? Too funny!

A black one might not look bad if it's pitch dark and the lights are off and you can't touch it and there's no moon that night. ;)
