Got some Shell in Maine. It's sort of like the UP - lots of Citgos around. Paid $123.1 a liter today. Will try to fill up in the am for ~1.25 a liter before hitting Newfoundland tomorrow afternoon. Cheapest there is $1.27 per gasbuddy.com.

At $1.25 a liter, figure $4.73 a US gallon. Then toss in the VISA foreign exchange fees and cha-ching.

I remember when I first started driving in CA there was 92 premium in CA, and some point they changed it to 91.

My Unitronics 2.0T software upgrade is optimized for 93 Octane however, so I wish I could find it!

    $123.1 x 4 liter/gallon = $500
Now that price is going to make the green folks happy. That'll slow down petroleum usage real fast. That's roughly $500 per gallon?

Try Quick Trip in El Cajon. I think that is where the guys buy racing gas. Give them a call. Plus they have good prices.

Filled up in Springfield, Il today for 3.49 RUG at a BP station.
  • andres3andres3 Member Posts: 13,928
The tune is smart enough to adjust for lousy gas (just like a stock car designed to run on 91 can adjust for 87).

The tune probably gives 90% of it's performance with 91, but when you get some race gas in it, it should be able to adjust with 100% performance without any reflashing. That's the theory anyway.

I'm sitting in a diesel rig right now. :-) Internet access on the MV Blue Puttees.

There was a lot of black smoke spewing when we left the port and my wife came back to the lounge area after getting "fumed" up top a bit earlier. I have a tendency to get seasick so I'm trying to focus on the laptop screen as the ship rolls a bit. :shades:

Photo of the stack here and if you look close on the right side of the pic, you'll see our minivan with a green canoe on top parked between all the semis. The weather is clearing nicely.

Diesel tends to be a cent or two less than RUG up here.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
Hmmmm, nice to know some parts of IL are in the $3.50 range. We're still in the $3.84 range in my neck of the woods, though a few are in the $3.78 territory. Been car-pooling most of the week so hopefully petrol prices will drop a few more cents when I need to fill-up.

Maybe I'll be able to get the Olds back on the road, fill it up and enjoy it. :shades:

Wow, if that were the case in CA, an A3 TDI would be on my shopping list.

But in CA I can get Premium for less than Diesel!

Filled at $3.45 today at the Jersey shore only to find a $3.37 down the road. Not an area I'm in all the time and I forgot about the other places. I got Sunoco. The cheaper prices were Lukoil and Hess.

Speaking of ferries and Nova Scotia have you ever taken that ferry between Digby, NS and St John, NB? Across the Bay of Fundy. We took that on our honeymoon. As soon as you got out in the open water everyone but the crew more or less passed out. Apparently that is a Fundy thing.

Was in Grand Haven / Holland, MI. over the weekend and the petrol prices were in the $3.59 ~ $3.63 range, versus $3.79 ~ $3.99 by home. Along 80/94 through Indiana and 196/31 in Michgan the prices were running about the same, every now and then you'd see a lone station in the higher ranges, probably due to being in-between no-man's-land areas.

Diesel was about 20 cents higher.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
Well, yesterday morning my fill-up was for $3.74. I noticed on my way in there was one BP station @ $3.95 and a Jewel station @ $3.85. Thought the BP was strange because it was $3.74 the day before but the Jewel had been at $3.85 for a week or so so didn't pay it any mind. Every station on my route was at $3.74

I leave work and prices were $3.96 :confuse:

Did I miss something? Did another pipe line rupture in IL? Somewhere near IL?

Did Job's stepping down as CEO cause it?

Was it because the weather people made a mistake on the forecast?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Regular is $3.99 - just got back from a NE road trip and outside of Canada, this is the highest price I've seen.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
    How was the trip Steve?
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
was for $3.82 at the old usual. The usual Shell was running a dime more - most are running at this price with a couple running a few cents higher.

Looking over my records my latest purchase price is $1 more than last year. Funny thing is, over the course of the this year I'm within +/- a day or two of the same fill-up dates as last year, with a few being on the same date.
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386

Trip was fun, just don't ask me how much I spent on gas. Really a bit too long, but it takes a while to get up that way and a while to get back. Fun camping with my brother and his wife, and the highlight was canoeing "near" the icebergs at St. Carol's Bay.

Low light was getting a flat, jack not working, and missing the little ferry to Labrador by 15 minutes or less. But skipping that freed up three days and gave us a few more layover days.

Drove up to a u-pick blueberry farm yesterday and got gas for $3.78. Seemed cheap. :)

If it helps you feel any better, my last 2 credit card bills reflected 700+ and 480 in fuel charges.
That does not include my wife or kids filling up on their own.
My bills did include some fill ups for the kid's cars.

    Dang, you've been cruising too.

I haven't added it up, but I bet mine would add up to about both of those bills put together, just assuming $4 a gallon gas. But I paid as high as 1.34 a liter for some tanks. It was fun tooling around with all four of us in one van when we had layover days, but we all carried too much stuff to easily combine camping and boating gear. May have to try harder to do that next time. Would have saved a bit on camping fees too, since usually extra tents are no problem, but a second vehicle bumps you to a new campsite fee.

It started up with a little 400 mile round trip to Wilkes-Barre PA from CT.
After that, vacation to the Outer Banks.
Next, out to South Bend Indiana to bring our college student back to school.
After that, drove to Georgia, east of Atlanta, with my collage grad to start a temp job. Rented a car in Columbia SC, so I could fly back by myself.
Did my usual commuting to work a few days, too. ;)

$3.49, not bad - did I just say that :surprise:

Read a blurb earlier how there was trouble out east because of the storm & supplies dip a bit so oil increased by $1.67 in trading. I figure between that and the MN wildfires (the winds actually carried the smoke / smell here to NW Illinois) we should be back to $4 by Friday
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206

I filled at Carson City, NV Costco yesterday for $3.55. Carson Valley has the lowest prices I have come upon this trip through CA, OR, WA & NV. I was real surprised to see diesel cheaper in Oregon than RUG at a few places. Lowest price was $3.63.
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
    $3.41 Shell today.

was up at the doctor where the cheap Shell station is. Usually it is the same as the Sunoco available locally. This time it's 8 cents cheaper.

Prices must be all over the place in Jersey. The Parkway only changes gas prices once a week - on Friday. Today it was up two cents while the local prices have been trending down. There's a formula on how they arrive at the Parkway price but I don't know how they figure it.

    From the NJ Turnpike page.

    "How Fuel Prices Are Set

The cost of gasoline at service areas on the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway is based on a weekly survey of prices at stations elsewhere in New Jersey.

Sunoco has contracts with the Turnpike Authority to provide fuel services on the Turnpike and the Parkway. Under the terms of those contracts, the company is able to change gasoline prices once a week to reflect the results of the most recent Lundberg Survey. That survey establishes an average price of various types and grades of fuel at service stations around New Jersey. The weekly prices are posted before 7 a.m. on Fridays.

Sunoco and the Turnpike Authority have worked together since 1999 to assure that diesel fuel is sold for the lowest possible price. The Diesel Price Program is designed to encourage large trucks to stay on our highways rather than leave to use local roads in search of less expensive fuel. Diesel prices may be adjusted more often than once a week.

Please note that Authority does not have contracts with Exxon and Shell for the service stations those companies operate on the Garden State Parkway in Colonia. Fuel prices at those stations are set at the sole discretion of Exxon and Shell."

My experience with those Shell and Exxon stations is that they keep to the same price as the Sunoco with sometimes minor fluctuations.

Before the Turnpike Authority took over the Parkway the Parkway stations were all Lukoil stations left over from an old Mobil contract.

Filled up this day with V-Plus Shell $3.749, will probably average around 21mpgs with mixed driving, a/c running, temps around 90..The S/C charged V-6, 260hp Pontiac adores gas..Mobil, and Sunoco are around the same price, Murphy, Rac-Trac, and other bargain centers are a couple cents lower...

If reality holds true and I buy a car that gets 35 mpgs on the highway and I hand them a check for $15k plus my tradein, I am sure that this "high-tech 4 banger" will probably average around 25 with my driving habits..Got a 4 banger in the garage that does that, a low mileage 2002 Camry XLE w/83k miles.., ususally does around 23-25..The Mustang GT is in the 20mpg range.

On I-75, the Pontiac at 80 will show 26.5 which in reality is about 24.5..Last trip I took to Ft Myers Airport, the downbound trip with a/c on, cruise set @70, return trip a/c off and cruise @80-both directions the average was 26.5...The old cast-iron V-6 just plugs along, and enjoys a triple digit for a few miles...Another 40k miles and it will be gone, last GM car in my garage...

One station dropped two cents, and then another three cents late last week.

Today the station I usually get gas from dropped a dime to $3.89.

Diesel up the street was $3.87 last week.

Ours dropped back down last week to $3.75 at Costco. Still $3.999 at Shell close by. I use them when I need a cheap car wash. Car Wash is $3.99 with 8 gallons of gas. I get 3% off using my Costco AMEX Card. Quit using the Shell card when they dropped the 5% discount.
