Put "exhaust shield washer" in the search field.
Ryan, by the time you get your truck the 2001's will be out! hehehehee
Ryan
It's been my experience that when a truck is properly set up to handle bigger rubber (proper gears) mileage usually doesn't increase but it usually doesn't decrease either.
It my case I have 4.10 gears, and my truck came with 245 series tires. My truck gets better mileage, and runs more at the proper rpm range with 285's than it did with 245's, because of the gearing. I have a 4800 motor, which is part of the reason why I have 4.10's, and I'm getting 20 mpg on the highway, at 70-75 with 285's, and I have a cab-high topper too.
I think a 3.73 geared 5300 truck should see no decease in MPG with 285's, providing the fact that the odometer is off by about 10 miles per hundred, is taken into account when figuring your MPG.
It was pretty. I will pick it up Thurs. night.
I ordered Feb 1, got built (in Texas) on feb 29,
and arrived at the dealer on Mar. 10.
Indigo blue 1500 LS z71 with the 5300.

Have a LS SWB/Reg Cab, 5.3L 3.73 have had in shop 8 times for the following:
Rear main oil leak @ 100 miles - replaced
Squeak under cab - Tightened "grounding strap" - fixed
Driveline growl - chose not to reflash eprom due to possible gas mileage hit
spark knock - not fixed, still knocking
helluva squeak in front seat - can't seem to fix, been at dealer 3 times for this
squeak in steering column (sounds like it is behind air bag) - still doing it
Does not use any oil (so far) use Mobil 1 10w-30 initially changed to Mobil 1 @ 3000 miles.
I really like this truck, I've driven it on the Outer Banks of North Carolina from Ocracoke Island to the Virginia Line (where possible of course)does great in sand. Also driven in 30" of snow/ice in NC mountains, does great in snow (have locking rear end) ABS are the best I have ever had (previously had a 97 F150)
Other than the time in the shop I like this truck. However probably would not buy another first year vehicle.
Anyone know about the P265 WOL tires? I was told today they are on constraint now. Might have trouble getting them and the order may be delayed guess im in for a little wait now oh well.
$29300 After taxes
Ryan
kyle
Now do we get a daily countdown to delivery!!!!?????
Some of the trucks are starting to get here in 6 weeks from order.
If you have trouble getting the wol's try the 265
blackwalls. I got the blackwalls on my truck and they are Firestone Wilderness AT's, for $140 less.
Can't promise all blackwalls are that, but in my case it seems like expensive white lettering.
Jescop: They are going to put the order in with the WOL tires and hope it takes it and if it rejects it they will put it in a few more times then they said they might just order the other ones and switch them with a truck on the lot with the tires i want. I really didnt want this i told them to try a few wks ordering it with the WOL because i can wait im in no big hurry now.
Everyone:
I went to 6 dealerships within about a 20 mile radius no one took me serious kinda blew me off or didnt accept the supplier deal. I went 150 mls away from my house and found a great dealership. I was really amazed. It was well worth traveling that far. When i first emailed this dealership back in august and they replied i had no clue where this place was. I was their second "internet order". I think it pays to start early and get to know who your gonna buy your truck from it helped alot.

LEAVY: Harold chevrolet in Angola Indiana if u want more info let me know
Ryan
I ordered my 2k Silverado in mid Oct/99 and it arrived almost 6 wks to the day. You won't have to wait too long I'm sure.
Enjoy..........

get my pics back tomorrow with the fresh zaino bros. wax job and westin step bars installed. which reminds me...oh by the way. for those of you who said the step bars would be an easy install...they weren't exactly "fun". i imagine if you've got an impact wrench it wouldn't be too bad, but doing it with a socket set with no extensions is NOT fun. however, i wouldn't pay more than $20 to have them installed. it's not hard...just a pain in the rear - especially in the dark!
one other question. the directions stated to torque all bolts down to 65 ft-lbs. anyone have any idea what kind of torque an average strength man can put on a bolt with a 12" long ratchet? i don't have a torque wrench, so i just cinched 'em down as tight as i could. they feel pretty solid.
thanks,
kyle
Ryan
I can't wait till Bluebeast gets back to see what he'll require as real proof of this impending purchase, but I'm sure it will be good.
(PS, Ryan if by chance you really did , the finally do it Congratulations!!!! who cares what that sun burned Texan says anyway)
I have the worksheet from the dealership that says the make model trim blah blah blah with the msrp $32028 then supplier price $27900 then tax $1395 total $29300 minus a $1000 deposit Then lastly i owe $28300 plus the accesories im having put on. I also have the window sticker print out fromt he computer which lists all options gas milage da da da. Technically like tim said its not ordered yet it actually goes into GM VOM system tomorrow morning. Hopefully itll be accepted and it wont be rejected because of the tires.
Ryan
Oh yea i just figured it all out and i got the truck for $150 under invoice this seems like a very low amount considering i am using the supplier deal. Oh well no big deal
When I un-bolted the cab bolts...2 were about 15 lbs. So I'd have to say as tight as you can get them with a 12" ratchet is way tight enough.
Ryan,
Why not do it yourself??....You not the wrenching type?
I don't get satisfaction unless i do it.
Just put in a Furnace and ducts in the loft of the Barn type garage....never done it before...but it turned out better or just as good as any contractor. Never did brick walks either....but they turned out cool.
Experience is the best learning tool.
Good Luck

I have a friend that has been putting sunroofs in since the mid-70's and I trust his work explicitly. I saw the ASC installed in a Dodge Ram and '97 Chevy Surburban LT. Really liked it.
There are authorized dealers throughout the country that install them. Unfortuately, I agree with you and poor workmanship may lead to leaks.

Ryan, $270 for the Westin's is a little high I only paid $199.95 for mine, there can't be that much of a difference between 3 & 4 door version, look around some more. You might check into the Eurobar, they are also a no drill unit & cheaper than Westin in black or stainless. I flipped a coin & went with the Westin.
That $270 was a rough estimate they didnt have the 4 dr version out yet im gonna send a few emails and see different prices.
Ryan
Thanks ray
RYAN, I'll have to get back to you on my part# for Westin nerfs, 25-1395 rings a bell but then again that was the 3 door version in black. The stainless were $299 & CPS were $349. All my paperwork is at home. I don't think the gorhino's are a no drill version.

-I've read a number of posts regarding wind noise and bug guards. Have you experienced any wind noise, howling, etc. above the norm?
-Another item I've heard is a pain, is your own headlight reflection in the left corner (from driver's seat) from the bug guard. Don't know if this was a Lund. Any reflections at night?
Randy
hell yeah that tape is strong....I touched my finger lightly on it and you could tell it's gonna hold real good. hasn't moved yet.
Ryan,
So what if ya never did it before? They are no drill....right?....so what can you mess up?
My set of 4 Stainless Boards were $1000 and I had to drill 8 holes per side...as well as the cab bolts. I had fears with a new $34K truck...but what the hey...it worked out very good. I didn't want to drill that much...but these puppys are so heavy...you need good mounting.
You seem like a worker type.....give it a try man.
Rayt,
I hear ya for time consuming. It wasn't hard..but it did take 4 guys using a hoist 10 hours for all 4 boards. (and yes...one guy was me...we used a friends hoist at work)
Good Luck Ryan....er...I mean babs!

around for a tale of "You gotta be kiddin me!".
On January 17th I ordered:
1500 LT ext cab sb fleetside 4x4 Z71, 5.3 V-8 ,
auto trans, autotrac, locking rear, Alum wheels,
P265 tires, tinted windows, 3.73 axle, flares
and the trailering pkg. I tracked the vehicle to
the point where is was in transit last week. Today
I called the dealer and He said, Your truck came in on Friday 03/10, unfortunately, we sold it to
someone else on Saturday 03/11. I ordered it through the fleet manager with no down payment because it was through my credit union and I was given the order number to track through GM CS
I am not sure what course of action I can take,
but I am very interested in hearing from anyone
that can site a similar situation and what the
dealer or GM did to rectify the situation.
thanks in advance. bmc..
ryan - i got the platinum cps 4 door version. ray was right, they were about $350, $375 with tax. email westin from their web site (www.westinautomotive.com) and they'll send you a list of local parts dealers that carry their stuff. you'll find a good price with one of them. they were a pain in the [non-permissible content removed], somewhat, to install, but frankly, i'm glad i did. i didn't know what "cab bolts" were before i installed them. and i'm a little offended at your comment that since you've never done it before you'd rather have someone else do it...so it gets done right. god knows i've never done that before either...and i'm pretty sure i got mine right. you didn't by any chance have to have an "expert" show you how the first time you got laid did you?
tim - four guys and a hoist??? i wish. i balanced the sob's on my frickin' chest as i hooked 'em up. course mine prob'ly don't weigh quite as much as yours. should have my pics back tomorrow, i'll scan 'em and send 'em too ya to post for me.
kyle
I had so many brackets with mine...due to weight and size...that we would have spent too much time on the ground laying under it....so we decided to use a hoist...it was a good idea. I'd say on average 2-3 guys were working at a time. We really only needed 2...but the others guys wanted something to do that night....so I gave 'em something to do until 2:30 AM on a weekday.
We were going to stop at the cab boards....but one guy said.."we got this farr...might as well finish!"
You got the Chrome plated stainless right?
Looks better than Black in my opinion.
Only thing I don't like about solid stainless.....it gets a hazy look too easy due to it being softer. After a while of the edge being stepped on...it gets lightly scratched....but buffs out very easy back to it's pure luster.
When I sell the truck....these puppys are going with me to the next one.....unless the buyer wants to pay extra. I don't wish that install on anybody.
I liked the install on my old nerf bars better. they were all drill install though....no cab bolts.
Shoot the pics on over when you get them.
- Tim
Yea Ryan, the Westin bars are pretty simple to install, if you have the right equipment. We have a couple of car hoists at our shop, and once you get the truck up to a comfortable working level, the job is easy and doesn't take very long, especially if you stand back and watch a mechanic do it, like I did. I agree with you though, they shouldn't charge you that much to do it for you, I would guess it didn't take my guy any more than 45 min to do both sides. This included the time to read the instructions since he had never put a set on before. Real happy so far with the Westin CPS units. (Picture @ Post #116)
Bill.......Revitupfast
Mine did this for the first time today. 2000 LT 5.3/4.10's approx 1800 miles on it. Let me know what your dealer has to say.
Kanton and Bob259 - the dealer replaced the steering shaft and the rattle/clunk still exists. They have now ordered the "upper steering shaft". A mechanic friend of mine seems to feel the problem lies in the bearing at the top of the shaft although he is a Chrysler mech.
Mark
By the way Ryan, Congrats!
Mark
As fot the bug shields, I have a Genuine GM on mine. it already broke on the one end when i was washing the truck. I did hit it with my hand when i was washing the fender and it cracked it about 3 inchs long. I am very un happy with it. I had a prime design( i think that was what it was) on my old truck and it took ten times a harder hit and never broke.
Just because someone "does it every day" doesn't mean they do it right. The last set of tires I had installed on my car cost the tire dealer 4 new rotors and the labor to install them. I specified the torque for the lug nuts at 80ftlbs and specifically stated NOT to use the air wrench. When the install was finished, I immediately checked to see what they torqued the lugs to. 150ftlbs, even though the service order clearly stated 80ftlbs. The rotors were seriously warped. Cost the dealer much more than my tires cost me and, yes - they do it every day.
Werking,
If you torqued those bolts down as tight as you could get them, you most likely went WAY over 65ftlbs (unless of course you're a - uh, never mind). Over torquing can cause a bolt to fail.
little offended at your comment that since you've
never done it before you'd rather have someone else
do it...so it gets done right.
The reason i said what i said is because i dont really want to go messing around with a $30000 truck and why not make it easier on myself and when i go to the dealership to pick it up have them already installed? Whats wrong with that?
Ryan
