The following is from the Edmunds road test of the Silverado. It sounds like your problem.
"But that vehicle's door seals pulled out of the doorjamb every time we opened either front door. At speeds above 40 mph, an irritating wind whistle was evident from near the joint where the top of the front door met the top of the rear access panel. Because of the noise, and the fact that we had to keep stuffing the door seals back into the groove that is supposed to hold them in place, we didn't drive that vehicle much."
We got some much needed snow today. My wife used 4-Hi to get up the driveway in the Blazer. I drove up in my Silverado in 2wd. I decided to get a back to back comparison. So I drove up the driveway in 2wd in the Blazer. I was able to do this, but it was fishtailing all over the place. The locking axle is a huge improvement, no fishtailing. Tires about equal.
"Quadrunner" is the other improvement...recipient of prestigious awards, including the Edmund's "Best driver in a full size truck category," he's also voted most popular among women other than his wife.
dropper - My friend did the same thing to his new truck. We took the top off the bumper and used a strap by the end of the bumper and pulled it out, set the bumper brackets with a wack of a hammer and reinstalled the top cover. It's within a 1/8" of the other side and not noticeable. Give it a try....
Yea, since I put the cap on they changed to a smooth stlye so now I have a whaletail tailgate protector collecting dust in the shed out back where I'm mak'in bacon............LOL
Tim: Southerner! I think not more like a Canuck or was that Nanook from the North, ey. LOL
Service dept called and said my truck already has the new fluid in the transfer case, they must be using it at the factory now. They have changed so many in the past few months, he just assumed that was the problem.
They said they couldn't reproduce the problem, which is understandable since it has only happened twice in 1300 miles.
His best guess was a 'break in period' event, so I'll drive for a few months and see what happens.
why are you guys railing on the south? didnt we settle that over a hundered years ago? and didnt the north win that one? I can only assume that because clinton is from arkansas. and because it is a well known fact that the south has the most beautiful women, best nascar drivers and best climate. are you really that jealous?
duman u cant beat it up here. Snow ice they say if you dont like the weather wait a few minutes and itll change. Its so true. I couldnt stand that much heat. We are razzing on the south because of bluebeast's mouth he doesnt stop
Tim sorry big brother no lunch money sorry all thats going towards my truck i cant eat anymore.
Ryan
Dont underestimate the lil guy (probabaly bigger than most of you)
all in all its a great country both north and south. and youre right, sometimes its a little too hot. mainly in july & august. why, sometimes it cools down to 95deg between 4:30 and 5:30 am! but really, where else can you spend all day outside fishin and swimmin and still get a sunburn....... .... in january!!!!!!!!
You had The tranny that kind of delayed right? It is not a break in thing, mine did it once around 4000, then again at 7000 miles. My guess is that the computer just hits a glitch every now and then and misdirects fluid in the tranny. I did not even bother taking mine in for the standard "could not reproduce problem" which is typical from the dealers. Let me know if it happens much more, or if they somehow find a cure. Cam
Taken it in good spirit trust me. Im at work and im cracking up most of the time. How long till this post is ended and becomes chevy silverado continued #9????? Im giving it maybe another day if we are lucky. We are a bunch of yackers
I ordered mudflaps today and you think the wait for the truck is long. Its gonna take 3 months + to get mudflaps for the truck. Ill have the truck before the flaps. I also got a Z71 trailer hitch cover. Gotta get the accessories while i can afford them
Ryan - or anyone who has looked for hitch receivers. Did you happen to buy on the net or found a good resource on the net for them? I'm looking for a hitch receiver that says"Sooners". I've only found one source and they couldn't provide a picture. I've searched and found several sites with receivers including the new Z71 logo that I like, but living in Texas (Yeah I really like it there, but I'm still an Okie at heart), I want to find the Sooner to rub the Oklahoma in their face a little. I just don't like buying without seeing and was hoping to find another site selling on the web. Search engines just aren't helping any.
I got my Z71 at a local auto parts shop. All they had were chevy and ford ones. I have seen some sites with hitch recievers with pics but most are of chevy symbols and words. Ill keep my eyes open though for ya and let u know if i do find anything.
You know State fairs and such are good to find things like you are talking about i found a bunch of recievers and stickers of various things at a fair last fall. Just an idea
did you guys have your defroster on at the time you noticed this "clunk and delay?" the defroster makes the motor do a slight "clunking" noise as it cycles? Just a thought, when I first heard this on my truck I too thought it was the transmission and went right to the dealer. The could not duplicate it; of course. However, I have noticed that this only occures with the defroster on, even occures when the truck is in park and the defroster is on, so I know it is not the transmission.
should the rear diff fluid be changed. Eaton locker 3:73 gear?
Anyone done it yet? Somewhere I heard as early as 15k miles. Nothing in the owners manual. I got the Helm shop manuals. They tell how to do it, but not when it should be done.
I have a new 3/4 ton Silverado 4x4 due to arrive any day now and I'm considering removing the fender flares once I get it. My truck will be white and I'm not real fond of the black flares. I hate to dig in on the removal without any advice. Anyone out there ever removed their flares? If so, any words of wisdom? Can they be re-installed if taken off? Maybe I will like them more once I get the truck.
I would hope that the sound you describe as "clunking" isn't a real bad sound. If so you may have other problems, but that sound coming from the engine should be the same one you hear in the summer when you have the A/C turned on. The defroster cycles the A/C compressor on - that helps to take the humidity out of the air and helps to clear the windshield.
I am too lazy to go back over the past few (hundreds of) posts... was the trans delay you are talking about something that occurs coming off a stop, as if the trans is in 4th and then it down shifts to 1st in a split second before taking off? Mine did that twice; hasn't done it again.
No one ever really answered my question about tow-haul mode: I have a bit more info. As long as it is in 4th, the trans stays engaged. But in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd with tow-haul mode engaged, it essentially releases the trans when coasting, with no engine braking and the tach reading about 500 rpm. Is this normal? Can someone try it?
Mine acts the same way. I really like the tow haul mode when going UP the mountain. The tranny doesn't keep shifting up and down. But it doesn't offer any braking at all going down. The engine idles at about 500 rpm.
I would not advise removing the flares unless you plan on visiting a body shop for touching up after the fact, they are installed securely at factory & are not meant to be removed.
Tim, Have you noticed on the trailer hitch that the receiver plug does nothing for stopping the crud from getting in on the backside which is open to the elements?
About the only thing ya got goin for ya is your dream car vision, that's a nice car. Your welcome on the Silverado page but please remember you own a ford so your opinions are biased, it can't be that boring on the ford page can it to bring you here, this is where the action is, nuf said. CHEVY RULES!!!!!!! LOL
Also try looking for advertisers in the OU alumni magazine or on the OU web page. There's also a football magazine from College Sports Publishers Association called Sooners Illustrated. Fans seem to buy just about anything with their teams emblem on it. Just ask my wife.
It doesn't matter what kind of Truck you own as long as it serves your purpose. I went from a GMC Extended Cab to a Ford Crew Cab, because GM wasn't offering what I wanted in a Truck. You all have the waiting process like I had with my ford, it's nice to know no matter what company you order from it takes forever. I bet no matter what kind of truck came around the corner, and that you had been sitting a few hours in a mud hole..you wouldn't turn down his help.......hoping that a GM product would show up. Have a Good day Gentlemen & Ladies...
Ok does anyone have either WADE bedrails or the GM bedrails? Plastic black ones. How do you like them??? How much did you pay? Thank you i am looking rhinolinings has the wade for like $90 but performance products has em for $58. And yes im gonna install tehm myself just wanted to answer that before im asked.
Has anyone heard of a $25 increase coming to delivery charges? $665 to $690????? I dont understand this i offered to go pick it up from the factory but they told me they would still charge it to me. If my truck is built in fort wayne it will only have to travel about um 25 mls to my dealership (I AM GETTING RIPPED OFF BIG TIME) Sorry i am venting a little bit a little angry i heard they are gonna raise it $25. Hopefully itll be for the 2001 model yr.

Anybody who wants to hear the bit can E-mail me.

Ray: Take it off when you wash your truck and wash the plug.
Just an idea

Any way....no I didn't notice the crud that gets in the back side. I'll have to rush and look soon.
LOL
And the Remove to tow ford one.....I just might have to get that....So true..
Thanks for the info.

I admit...installing the skins was spooky. With the red 3M tape...you have a "get it right" first time or accept the crooked way you put it on.
I lined them puppys up time and time again....then made the move. They turned out fine.
Drive over to Michigan Babs...I won't charge that much...just one beer. ( I get to pick what size though...)
Favorite size - 1/2 BBL.
- Tim
Your beer is probably a lake full of beer or an old style truck. Dont lie u know u drink old style like all them other old people. haha
