Back to the truck: I read that some were having a slight problem with pull to the right. I was too. I took mine in at 1000 miles to get a squeak, rattle and the alignment looked at. I thought the rattle and the squeak were of the same origin, but the squeak was actually coming from the right fender (tightened and lubed it, squeak gone). Tightened the dash, rattle gone. Aligned the truck, drives straight as an arrow (and seems to ride a bit smoother, but that may just be psychological).

I use the Meguiars Enurance tire dressing too. Works a lot better than plain 'ol ArmorAll. Several companies make a similar dressing, but I ahve only used the one.
Question: Does it look exactly the same as the bed cap on the sportside models? Texture, color, etc. Your answer or anyone else who has a GM bed cap is very important to me. What did it cost, and does it has stake hole covers. How about the fit? Does it look like a bed liner with the top cut off? or better.
I have a Y2K Silverado 5.3 LS 4x4 with 4K miles. It’s using a quart of oil every 1000 to 1500 miles.
When I first called the dealer I was told it wasn’t unusual for a new engine to use a little oil. I was somewhat skeptical, but I’ve never owned a GM product before, so I accepted their explanation.
I changed the oil at 3K miles and then took a road trip of about 900 miles. When I checked the oil at the end of the trip it was down 1 quart.
The service advisor at the dealership told me that GM doesn’t think anything is wrong with using a quart every 2000 miles. That doesn’t sound right to me. I’ve never had a car use oil when it was brand new. Has anybody else heard of this?
I'm taking it in this week to have it looked at. I don't expect them to find anything. I have a bad feeling about this.
2nd, Find out where it's going. A puddle in your driveway? Smoke out the tail pipe? You can put a white piece of cardboard in front of the exhaust pipe, when you warm it up in the morning. If it's blowing out the tail pipe, you'll soak the paper.
3rd, do step 1 again.
By the way, yes I have read many reports of oil consumption, but most were from the F-body owners on http://www.ls1.com. Those guys can be very abusive, so who knows. Some do, others don't, or so it seems. I think in general, it's normal.
But I have to agree with poster above also. Mine doesn't move off the full mark between changes. But it takes 6.75 qts to bring it to the full line, if you also change the filter.
I add oil to the filter before screwing it on. Primes the oil pump faster. (Thanks for tip Cdean)
You're right. It's taking away from the exciting bedliner and two-tone posts.
What tool do people use to remove the filter? The access around the filter is very limited (6.0) so a "socket" type of tool seems required. Also, has anyone developed a good technique to not get covered in oil? One problem with the vertical filter is oil drips down like crazy all over your hand.
You're afraid of getting oil on your hands, and I'm changing it too often????
Sounds like your truck is pretty similar to mine (except your is a 99). Have you had any problems worth noting (vibration, leaking, etc)? I have taken mine 3 times to a dealer close to work to investigate a minor oil leak. After a dye test they are saying it is leaking from an intake gasket (that is the only info they would give me). Anyone out there know of any good Chevy dealers in the MD/DC suburbs? The dealer I have been going to is Ourisman Chevy (only because it is convenient to work) and I am not too confident about letting them work on my engine.

Obyone: Counting today 5 days WOOHOO!!!
Vince: Quit crying about getting your hands dirty they will come clean. haha just giving you some heck try wearing some gloves. (rubber gloves???)
You know what really kills your Gas milage. Putting sandbags (420 lbs plus a spare tire) in the back. Took all that out saturday and can notice the increase in mpg.
I follow the oil change light regardless of type of oil used.
No oil used first 1K. Ran crap outta it the next 2000 miles used almost 1 qt. Use about 1/3 to 1/2 qt every 3 to 4k since then, right now at 18k.
No problem with oil changes, normal wrench fits fine. I too, prefill the oil filter.
Never tried Zaino, but Meguiars Gold Class "Clear coat prep & swirl reducer followed by Clear coat car wax" produced the best shine/protection that I've experienced in 25yrs. Probably cheaper & easier to get also.
On fuel mileage, I think the fuel mileage of the new 5.3 is fantastic. I average only 2 1/10's less on average then my older V6 was getting, an it's a lot better then the new Tundra's everybody is trying to say are so great are getting in-town and on the road. 99 5.3 Z71 3.73's, in town Avg. 15.4 and Highway 19.3 mpg for a 4WD full size truck is not bad. That said I'll tell you how I feel about it when gas hits the $2.00 a gallon for regular they are predicting.
Why dont u believe me? I have the papers right in front of me at this very minute not signed yet though. Its form 1753 (gm supplier deal). Ok when i get it ill post pics and no i wont be lying either. Where can u find a blue Z71 with fender flares, black nerf bars, and a rhino sprayed in liner. A dealer back a month ago found a truck close to what i wanted but with power seats 2500 mls away. Kinda rare i guess.
It wont be adolescent babble. I still dont know why u dont believe me. Man ill send u the cancel deposit check if u want.
Bob thats cool we can have a party i am going fishing sunday in plymouth indiana so if u all know where its at come on down.

I think it is curious that GMC and Silverado TV ads emphasize a "powerful V8 - just in case you need it someday." If I need a lot of power it means I'm really putting a strain on the truck. I kept my beat up 1973 Chev 454 pickup for that purpose. Even local trades people and contractors are buying V6 Silverados and GMCs. I think they know what they are doing, and they sure give their V6s a daily workout. Having said all that, I'll probably end up with a V8 next time, just because I want some of the creature comforts that come with the LS or LT. But if I decide to go with a base model, it will definitely be a V6 again.
Ryan,
who cares who said about gloves first.
You seem flustered man...who cares what people think...(you seem to)..
....Everyone else....I think I seen Ryan at the Toyota Dealer??...talking about trade in for a used s-10 or something?..in return for a Tundra?
He was asking about Flares or something??
( I betcha he can make up a real looking form on that lap top to fool all of us that he really has an order going)

I have been at a toyota dealer once. I will never go back again. Let me tell you id rather drive a piece of crap then drive a new tundra. The tundra can fit nicely in the back of my S-10.
Why does everyone doubt me??? Well im gonna show u all up very soon.

Speaking of literature - I don't know about Chevy's but GMC's 2000 Sierra book has a picture of what I believe is the 1999 interior. The difference is the stereo. They have changed the buttons and the CD player is now in the deck and the tape player is in the console for 2000 - in the SLT models at least. In the picture, they are reversed, like 1999. Maybe they were still cleaning out old inventory - not sure, but it caught my attention anyway.
Hope you Chevy people don't mind me posting here.
QUAD: Mobil & GM must love you, do you have a money tree out back too? You don't need to document you bought the AC filter thru GM just that you bought the AC filter for your application whether it be thru K-Mart, Walmart, Ryanbabble Mart or whatever Mart. (just messin with ya Ryan) How itchy are ya now???????????
If you do your own maint. just document it in the owners manual section. That is all I have ever done & it served me well in a lemon law case against GM.
